Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Pascha is there a way I can find that out? The sonographer didn't say anything. Though I must say I can feel my heartbeat in the placenta very well, it's quite freaky! Double heartbeat! I'll go and see if there's anything in my notes.

Pascha · 17/09/2012 11:08

look at the result sheet. Somewhere on there should say the position of the placenta. Mine says Posterior (behind the baby) which means I feel everything well but anterior placenta is in front of the baby so any movements will feel muffled because its between baby and your front. I know a couple of others on here have one.

Pascha · 17/09/2012 11:12

Anywhere up to 22 weeks is still normal to feel first movements so don't worry. Can't say I've experienced a double heartbeat though, that sounds great!

Complicated24 · 17/09/2012 12:31

Katolla I have an anterior placenta so have only felt movement in the past 2 weeks. I am now 24 weeks. First of all I just felt a fluttery movement (which I thought was wind!) but can now feel and see actual movement. It is pretty small so DH not felt it yet. I had appt with Consultant on Friday and when she was checking baby's heartbeat we all saw my tummy move. It was amazing. MW didn't tell me my placenta was anterior, but I found out about it on 20 week scan notes. Don't worry. You will feel/see it soon and it is amazing. I now spend ages looking at my tummy in evenings to watch it move a tiny bit!!!

katolla · 17/09/2012 13:00

I found the notes and it's posterior and high up (the word for which I've already forgotten despite just having checked twice - thanks, pregnancy brain!)

Can't wait to be able to see it Complicated24, it sounds so freaky! So your placenta position doesn't make a difference any more?

Pascha I've got a thumping headache today so I can feel my heartbeat in my sinuses too. Quite sick of it.. Thank you for your help finding the placenta info, I had tried reading the notes before but missed it.

SquealyB · 17/09/2012 13:24

Hi all,

Just been catching up on the posts over the last few days as have been in Ireland for my cousin's wedding. I am officially exhausted and just not the party animal I used to be Grin.

Hope everyone is doing well. xx

AppleCrumples · 17/09/2012 13:30

Hi all

I apparently have an anterior placenta but have still been able to feel baby since 13 weeeks! Kept reading on here that i wouldn;'t so was quite shocked when scan lady said it was anterior. Even when its your 4th theres still stuff you don't know!

My DD started full time school today, its so wierd to be in a quiet house for so long but have cleaned all of downstairs now wish i could get it to stay this way when the rabble are here! Think it will take some getting used to, and then this baby will arrive and i will be back at the beginning again - total madness!

Hope everyone is well today and feeling lots of baby movements x

Pascha · 17/09/2012 13:31

Been doing lots of raking out and sorting of baby clothes this morning. I can't believe DS was once that small.

AppleCrumples · 17/09/2012 13:42

Pascha i wish i could do that. We got rid of everything after DD was born as we weren't having anymore! I only kept a couple of things that i felt really sentimental about - a fluffy snowsuit and 3 sleepsuits! Methinks i need to go shopping at some point! We only have a moses basket because i put it in the boys room and forgot it was there!

Pascha · 17/09/2012 13:52

Hehe we did the same. The Jumperoo, swing chair, crib, bumbo, all the bigger stuff went as we were only having one Hmm. I kept the clothes because lots aren't worth anything much and I couldn't be arsed to bundle it all up for ebay.

Lots of bits are the wrong season though as DS is early september birthday. Not so much a problem to start with as babygros are all year things but all the 3-6m stuff is lined trousers and padded jackets, just when we get to springtime.

I think I will be buying new vests though. God knows why I kept them instead of chucking, they're all bobbly and stretched.

BuntyCollocks · 17/09/2012 14:09

pascha - previously SE London, now NE Wales. Could traipse to the Trafford center, but it's nowhere near as handy as 30 mins to bluewater was! I kept EVERYTHING from DS, and have went through it all and chucked all the bobbly vests and sleepsuits Hmm don't know why I was keeping them! I've also given all his old stuff to charity now we now she's a girl where it's not unisex. A few tears were shed!

OP posts:
AppleCrumples · 17/09/2012 14:11

I just took everything to the local Oxfam. Tbh most of the sleepsuits and vests had already been through 2 other babies so we did get plenty of use out of them.

I did keep quite a lot of the older stuff for DD as i found it hard to get rid of so if we have a girl she has something to wear from 6 months! But all the boys stuff went so if this one is blue.... DD was an august baby but i think i can get use out of her old stuff (assuming this one is a girl). Wish i knew what it was then i could be more prepared!

happyhow · 17/09/2012 14:17

I'm just back from the midwife and finally got to hear the baby's heartbeat!! I'm now 24 weeks so was ace hearing it although it kept moving so it took a while to count it for long enough to get an estimate on its heart rate!

We're still in negotiations about this bloody house too so hoping that will be sorted in the next couple of days.

Was in Mothercare yesterday and as I walked around I just thought "This is a big shop. It has lots of stuff. What do I actually need out of this shop?! I have no idea!" I've been quite happily bumbling along so far but it suddenly hit me that I may also need to create a spreadsheet of things that need to be bought!!!!!

MamaMary · 17/09/2012 14:19

I kept all DD's stuff, thankfully. Though wrong season again - DD has a July birthday.

Brug, well done on getting all of that stuff for free, in one go! What a fantastic offer! We have used Freecycle - we got DD' moses basket and cot from there. Cot needed sanded and re-varnished and it was good as new. Will need a bit of a clean before DD2 comes - DD1 has recently moved into a 'big bed'.

MamaMary · 17/09/2012 14:19

I have found the sleeping bags (gro-bags) and changing mats from Mothercare are good - good quality and the gro-bags were the only ones DD can't get out of!

Complicated24 · 17/09/2012 14:57

MrsMallard when next updating list could you add "It's a surprise" as we decided not to find out sex. I would do it myself but don't want to muck up your brilliant spreadsheet. Thanks

I am loving the top tips. I can't remember who suggested buying a thermal mug, but bought one at a county fete over weekend and used it for today's antenatal appt. I was kept waiting for 40 mins so it's already useful! Thank you.

shakemyhead · 17/09/2012 18:36

mrsmallard when updating the list could you add a girl for me please.

Went to a Nr new sale yesterday and picked up Moses basket and stand ( washed up great) bf support cushion ( new) donut and very hungry caterpillar outfits. Oh n a baby name book. Not buying anything new til the house is straight.

Can deffo feel the wiggles ( and kicks) - felt things on n off since wk 16/17 but couldn't say for sure til about 19.

When is everyone finishing work? I am planning on going at 34 weeks. I work horrid 12 hr shifts rotating days and nights.

allchik · 17/09/2012 21:02

Hey shakemyhead I was just about to ask the same question! Im a teacher and we break up on the 21st Dec and go back on the 7th Jan....Im due on the 6th Jan so really hoping to stay at school right till the 21st Dec so that I can have my ML starting on my due date.....but have NO IDEA how realistic thats going to be! Might be dead on my feet before then!....what are other teachers doing?????

Lovely to hear all the posts about buying stuff n getting organised.....its getting nearer now ladies eeeeek! A lovely lady from work bought me a pack of baby socks today and they almost reduced me to tears....tooooo cute! Im going to spend October half term sorting out the nursery I think....cant wait to fold clothes into drawers and unpack nappies etc (saddo alert!)

Finally booked some NCT classes too....bloody expensive but as its out first we were quite keen, plus I dont really know anyone with babies up here so thought it might be a nice way to meet people...really looking forward to them!

happyhow · 17/09/2012 21:34

I'm a teacher too and planning on doing the same as you allchick. We finish on the 20th. Having spoken to the doctor last week, midwife today and hubby, I think I might be being ambitious. I'm due on the 7th Jan. I've decided that I'll stick with that plan officially as far as school is concerned but I really need to play it by ear. My pelvis is better but doctor and midwife think it could get worse again later on. Doctor has already said that he WILL sign me off early if he has too (he's a parent at the school and is mega supportive). As he said, if I'm in pain, huge and tired I'm no use to anyone and would be much better off relaxing at home conserving my energy and enjoying the last of my 'alone' time.

I spoke to a teacher friend yesterday who is also pregnant and she made the very valid point that as teachers, we think in terms. We always think/plan where we need to be at certain times of year or by holidays etc and we will want a nice clean break if we can to cause the least disruption to our classes.

I've decided there's absolutely no point in having a concrete plan. I'm quite chilled out anyway so I'm just going to do whatever the professionals tell me - during pregnancy and birth. At the end of the day, they're dealing with this every day and can advise best. Smile

mrsbugsywugsy · 17/09/2012 22:15

hello everyone,

I had my scan today and it was lovely - everything looked fine with the baby, and it's almost certainly a girl Grin. She was very wriggly.

I also have an anterior placenta, which explains why I have only just started to feel movement.

I've tried to update the list, hope I haven't messed it up!

MarasmeAbsolu · 17/09/2012 22:45

Congrats MrsBugs!

Last time round I went on ML on my EDD, only to hang around for another 2 weeks.
This time, C-section is planned a week ahead of EDD, so I'll probably stay at work until the end of term (20/12). I am a uni lecturer, so the longer I stay, the less work "to carry on doing from home" I'll have.

My home is a building site anyhow, it's cold, and I've got a cosy office with endless supply of coffee to go to... :)

Lora1982 · 18/09/2012 09:51

i had THE chat with work yesters. im finishing work on the 21st. first 6 weeks are 90% then til october its smp so i am going to be soooo poor. Its sinking in that im going to have to do some photog and graphics to bring the money up.

im definatly getting loads of movement now, last night was fun he (thats praps the 1st time ive not called him it) was kicking my phone off my stomach.

theboutiquemummy · 18/09/2012 11:04

Have joined NCT so I can go to the nearly new sale in October anyone been to one I've been told they are a bit of a bun fight ?Wink

Brugmansia · 18/09/2012 12:16

I have my scan tomorrow. We still haven'tdecided if we're going to find out the sex. I don't want to, as I'd prefer to have as few preconceptions about the baby as possible before it's born. DP wants to find out though. Initially his reasoning was a bit rubbish, basically "why not when the technology is there". He has also added now that it will help him feel more connected as it's all a bit abstract for him at the moment. This makes sense to me so I'm considering relenting. Just wondering what others' thoughts were.
