Hmm, MIL!
Just getting my little scream across about mine.
Was asked today: "are you excited?" by a very shrill MIL who looks at a baby as if all Christmases are rolled into one... DH and I on the other hand don't completely melt when we see one... for me to say 'hmm, I'm excited about the new times ahead but there are so many emotions in there...' to which she replied..."Oh! Do you think it's because you don't know much?"
Ahhhh the cheek! DH saw immediately my disgust and sniggered! Phew, luckily I can't get wound up by her anymore as we are soooo different.
Thing is, I am excited about it but not in the ways that make me a kid that can't wait for Christmas. Also can't exactly express this with someone who thinks very differently as I end of justifying myself which I refuse to do. OK, just different peas in pods there.

Ham my aunty is a health visitor and she told me that they advise a 2 week rule - which means it should be seen as quite normal to accept no visitors for 2 weeks after the baby is born. My own parents want to see LO straightaway but I've said that they can come over but only for an hour. They are fine about this. With the ILS - 2 weeks rule applies (for now!) Heartless? nope, for sanity! plus some NHS health visitors advise it anyway.

Wow we're on the fifth thread, yeah!
Hope everyone is having a good day.

MrsMigginslovespies · 04/06/2012 17:23

Am watching with interest this PIL visiting thing...am honestly dreading mine bombarding me, and given recent history, can't be ar*sed with her issues. On the other hand, it might all be fine Hmm.

Just had strawberry milk and a doughnut from M&S. Lush.

MrsMigginslovespies · 04/06/2012 17:24

Ha! Just realised that my attempt at not swearing worked brilliantly Wink!!!

Loislane78 · 04/06/2012 18:45

Re. the PIL visiting. I remember visiting my sister in hospital a few years ago after my nephew was born; she'd had a rough time with forceps/stitches. I brought some extra bits from home and was helping her in the shower. MIL turns up (she was one of the nightmare ones unfortunately) and casually sat on the bed pawing all over 'her grandson'. Ignored my sister, who was exhausted and could barely walk to bathroom herself, made me v cross and I politely said something to her.

I'm sure lots of ILs are lovely but given what a mother has just been through physically and emotionally, it's absolutely her call who she wants there and maybe you don't know how you'll feel yet. Family will get their time, it's not a race!! No one should feel bad for wanting a bit of time with Babs and DP :)

ffscatmove · 04/06/2012 19:16

Never been so relieved that my MIL lives a long way away, doesn't drive & doesn't like to be an imposition..... (at least so far!)
In other news... I am tired and grumpy & fed up & I don't want to go to work anymore..... SO busy at work today and I have really awful reflux despite gaviscon
Sorry whine over, I'm bored of myself really!

quickchat · 04/06/2012 19:21

Hi, Im sure I introduced myself on the Aug thread when I first found I was PG.

Not been back since mainly because this is my third and my other two go wild as soon as my bum hits the seat at the computer.
Im sure my eldest is still traumatised from when I was PG with 2nd and I MN'd through whole PG!
I have a 5 yr old DS who starts school this Aug and a 2.5 yr old diva DD. Im 28 weeks, due 31st August but my other 2 were exactly 3 weeks and 1 day early by sheer coincidence.
First was an emergency C-section due to placenta previa but all good and second just decided to copy her brother and made my waters go at exactly 3am on the way to the loo......I can't tell you ladies how nervous I am just now everytime I get up to go to the loo at 3am Grin.

Im also moving house in August, renting for 2 weeks in between, starting DS at school and DD at local playgroup >>rocks too and fro momentarily

eightieshopaholic · 04/06/2012 20:25

Hi guys, I religiously read the posts each night, but tend to fall asleep before I actually post anything!! Well spent Saturday clearing out spare room and painting yday did the gloss and tomorrow the carpet arrives, I am a little excited I have the cot changing unit and wardrobe flat packed on living room floor so fingers crossed baby will have a room shortly!! Oh and bought a hospital bag today 30 weeks yday!!

Me and other half having arguments one about me wanting mom as second birth partner he is a wimp and hates blood pain etc... His mother said she can not understand why she should be there either!!

Oh and the name I like Harry, Olly, Alfie he likes Henry, Jasper & Ruphert so not sure we will agree at all!!

ImissMiniPop · 04/06/2012 20:49

Hey everyone, part 5 :o impressive!

With regards to visiting on labour wards, and seeing the baby.

The postnatal ward I was on was pretty militant about visiting, It was DH/DP only from 10 - 1pm, then it was quiet time from 1pm - 4pm, where no one was able to visit (including DH/DP) and then from 4pm - 8pm it was any visitors, but DH/DPs were able to stop until 10pm. Maximum 3 people per bed.

But the labour ward didn't have any restrictions at all, it was anybody at any time. Which was kind of handy for me as I was in a side room but not in labour. :)

Can't believe this time last week I'd been hacked open and was in the HDU recovering Confused seems like such a long time ago.

Thanks for all your wishes re MiniPop, he is doing ok. He's put weight on now (yay!), but he's still only 3.7lbs and very skinny and wrinkly. Pulls some cracking faces already, and pushes you away when he's fed up being touched - He is off fluids and just on feeds now, which is excellent. Just needs to sleep and get bigger and stronger. :)

Was meant to be at a ColdPlay gig tonight, but have sent my DP off with a friend in my place. :(

NeedlesCuties · 04/06/2012 21:44

Jumping on thread.... will read more and have actual things to say soon :)

Marking my place.

tashaw28 · 04/06/2012 21:49

Poppy great news, he sounds like he's doing brilliantly! Don't worry about going to the toilet, the advice they gave me at the hospital was to eat lots of fruit, dried fruit etc and wait up to 2 weeks before using anything to help. I remember being so scared I'd split open I made DH come in with me!!! But you don't split open! It takes months for all your intestines to fall back into the right place after a c section and constipation and trapped wind are all par for the course unfortunatly.
ps it's not as bad as going after a natural birth when you feel like you're giving birth all over again! ;-)

susiegrapevine · 04/06/2012 21:55

Aww poppy lovely to hear minipop is doing so well he is obviously a fighter!

Have to say my MIL is lovely. She came down to visit a few days after ds was born and was helpful with everything. Cleaning tidying, tea making etc. Defo an asset! She won't be able to make it until as least a couple of weeks after this one is born as she works in an arcade so no time off in school hols. Anyway just thought I would say there are some good ones out there!

Haha marmite Isn't it weird that MILs always seem to be that way with babies, like nothing in the world matters as much as babies and all their lives revolve around any tiny glimpse or hold of one. Even my Mum is a bit bad for this like "OOOH LOOK AT THAT ONE! IT'S SMILING AT YOU!!!!" and I'm like hmmm no I don't think it was, plus I only want one baby smiling at me... my one. Interesting about 2 week rule... I'm going to keep that one in mind depending on how we feel when we get home!

That about the MIL visiting "her grandson" totally sticks with me lois that's how I imagine it will be with a lot of visitors, just wanting their first shot of the baby and not giving a shit about me and DH. Even happens now with all the extra texts I get from in-laws asking how I am, but I know they really mean "how is the baby recepticle and is she making sure to bring our baby to us safely?"

Hi quickchat thanks for visitor advice... the whole "it's my shot" thing irks me to no end!

eighties I was worried when saying to my DH about wanting my Mum as other birth partner, made a big deal about her being like second in command, and there to spell him, and there for sharing her own experience etc. He is fine with it and they get on great so I think that helps though. Actually thinking about it I'm not sure my MIL is aware my Mum will be second birth partner. Luckily my in-laws are less likely to say when they don't agree with something, and rather just go quiet on us. So we just pretend nothing has happened and usually it blows over ha! It's what you want that comes first, you are the one pushing a person out of you and if Mum being there will help then it's obvious :)

Glad to hear minipop is doing well poppy he sounds like he is coming along nicely Grin how are you feeling generally after the section?? x

Nice to hear of good MIL susie :) Honestly mine are good I shouldn't complain as on the whole they are far better than a lot. We are just a lot different in terms of things like this. Sometimes I pre-empt the worst with them as they are so unlike me it seems unpredictable! And I like to imagine all eventualities so I'm not left getting walked over like a doormat just because something I don't want happens unexpectedly and I have no time to react!

Had NCT last night which was very interesting about pain relief. Lots of negatives came out for both epidural and diamorphine so taking them as last resorts and confirmed what OBEM seemed to show with epidurals resulting in forceps more often than not in terms of stats. Fingers crossed for water and G&A! Really funny thing was the men at the class were to try out a tens machine while the women did a relaxation exercise. So we are breathing in and blowing out bubbles etc and in the background all you can hear is "so that goes here, then this one, now turn it...ARGRRHRHFKJLKFLDAl!!!". They had put it on their arms and were zapping eachother with it and it was making their hands do all these weird moves they couldn't control Grin

Painted the chest of drawers that will be our changing table and baby stuff store yesterday so going to move it into our bedroom and put all the things in this eve with DH who surprised me by wanting to do it with me. Hope you are all having a nice relaxing day and hope any feeling crappy are getting better.

hamncheese · 05/06/2012 08:13

whoa massive post apologies

Vinolover · 05/06/2012 08:17

Poppy that's brilliant news on the weight front! He'll be fighting fit and home where he belongs before you know it! :)

All this Pil talk is making me paranoid lol. We never see them from one week to the next but just recently they have been 'there'. I'm really hoping my mil respects my wishes and comes to visit when she's invited. When she visited after I had my ds (she bloody turned up with sil at the times only dp were allowed which annoyed the MW's) she barely asked how I was and took it upon herself to pick my baby up and walk him round the ward! Bearing in mind he was fast asleep in his crib and I didn't give her permission to pick him up (me being young and naive, I didn't think even I was allowed to pick him up if he was sleeping!) Hopefully DH will just call her when he's born and we're at home - a few days later Wink

Love your attempt at swearing MrsM Wink

woopsidaisy · 05/06/2012 08:33

Groan....I have been sick all night. Vomiting and feeling dreadful.Sad
Couldn't sleep as heartburn became so bad just couldn't lie down.
I'm so tired, and still feel really sick. Going to try some water in a minute and see if it stays down. Grim.
These MILs all sound dreadful! Mine lives in England and can't travel, but she is lovely. FIL will be dying to see little one though, and I'm sure will be over asap. But he requires very little, asks for nothing and is amazing with DS1 & 2.
Glad minipop is doing so well!

The3Bears · 05/06/2012 09:03

Good morning everyone, thread 5 wow it's going so quickly now 30+3 for me :)

Poppy so glad to hear minipop is doing well he will be home in no time, have you still not decided on a name?

Dont even talk to me about visitors after ds1 was born, nobody listened to our rules about ringing before arriving (incase were asleep, feeding etc) we had relatives around at 8am! and sometimes 8pm when we would both just want to sleep. Im just going to lock the door this time and pretend to be asleep if any unexpected visitors arrive, sounds mean but you really cant understand just how tired you will be with a newborn and all you want to do is relax and get used to being a family.

Hope everyones having a nice weekend, we've just been busy going on days out with ds etc not sure what to do today yet.

The3Bears · 05/06/2012 09:08

Hope you feel better soon woopsidaisy sounds horrible, make sure you get alot of rest today.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 05/06/2012 10:33

Oh WoopsiD that's horrid!! I had SEVERE morning sickness a man must've called it that because it doesn't just strike in the morning for 16 weeks so I totally sympathise.

Pop, I'm so glad minipop is doing so well Smile Been thinking of you!

No news from me except DH was doing the sound for a street party yesterday and we had friends over after who didn't leave until 12.30 and now I feel like a zombie! I swear I used to be able to stay up later, get up earlier and would feel fine?!!!

ontheedgeofwhatever · 05/06/2012 11:26

Can I join? I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and expecting my second child. I've not asked what it is so looking forward to a surprise.

We have made no arrangements at all for poor baby must sort something out - a pram, some clothes and somewhere to sleep sounds good though we still have DD's old moses basket.

See you're starting to think about practicalities. Can anyone tell me what will happen with DD (6) being allowed to visit baby in hospital - what stage will she be allowed in? Thanks

Westcountrylovescheese · 05/06/2012 11:49

Coat one of painting nursery done. Phew.

Anyone else thinking of painting? If so, at 31 weeks the bump was really getting in the way. Don't leave it too long!

Hi edge, I reckon you are best asking at the hospital what their policy is. At my hospital no children allowed except own children. This means no entry for my nephew Sad even though he'll have travelled 6 hours to get here (no choice to leave him)...

Westcountrylovescheese · 05/06/2012 11:50

..and poor you Whoopsi, I hope it calms down soon.

panpipe · 05/06/2012 12:18

Ooh part 5! Will we overtake October this time?!

Also having MIL issues. Mine takes things very personally and has already started getting offended at things like my mum knitting baby a shawl when she wanted to give us one too Hmm. It's getting to the stage where I think we might have to just have all four grandparents round at the same time so nobody gets offended at seeing baby before or after anyone else! Am working on DH that we don't tell anybody anything until baby has arrived but he's not too convinced at the moment.

Just had 31wk MW appt; all ok but they think baby is back to back at the mo. Will get my exercises going to get it turning round! She also confirmed my suspicions that I've got a bum in my ribs which isn't the comfiest!

hamncheese · 05/06/2012 12:31

I love this thread. Makes me feel so much better that it's not just me with problematic relations. People get their noses so out of joint about things don't they? Anyone else feel a bit like everyone gets totally hysterical at the idea of a baby? Don't get me wrong I LOVE my baby and can't wait to have it but at the same time I still feel a bit like some folk think nothing else in the world is worth anything compared to babies. I still have other interests. Like my PhD. And DH. And cheese. Big piles o cheese.

woopsidaisy · 05/06/2012 15:08

Thanks Ladies.
I am feeling a bit better. DH ordered me back to bed this am, had a sleep and woke feeling a little better. Kept water down, and going to try some soup now.
DH and the boys have gone golfing to give me some sofa time.
I'm still in my PJs! Blush
Legs feel like jelly.
