eightieshopaholic That sucks about your boss - is there anyway you could start maternity leave early? I'm planning on working till the end but that's because my boss and company have been really supportive. I have a monthly risk assesment review and written into it is stuff like if I get too tired during the day I can go and have a sit down in the lunch area - have you go anything like this?

ham I'll join the ranks of those who have been feeling sick. For just over a week it got worse and worse and I thought oh oh, morning sickness is back. One night last week it was so bad I was actually throwing up most of the night. Sucks. Mentioned it to my midwife and she said that can happen sometimes. HOWEVER, nothing for the last 3 days or so - maybe it was a stage?

Spa day was awesome today, v. relaxing and felt very spoilt :-)

Lovemarmite · 04/07/2012 20:41

Me too had dizzy spells a few weeks ago and was told to just sit down by mw. She said it was due to low blood pressure and it's quite normal... Maybe also lower iron levels too.

ham I agree that a heavily pregnant look might get a good result with an older couple. Although I'm getting more looks from many people and lots of people get out of my way and so I guess we're a beacon for people's attention!

ishop really sympathesise about your mum and how hard she is making things. Hope she comes to her senses soon and doesn't cause you any stress!

eightieshopaholic · 04/07/2012 20:43

Yes planning to break up fri 10th due 12th lets home comes early anytime after 37 lol!!

Frilly I'm suppose to have monthly risk assessments so far had 2 though whole pregnancy and I have done them myself.

Any how my my cadburys whole nut has made me feel loads better!!

susiegrapevine · 04/07/2012 20:54

ham forgot to say that i did feel sick last night woke up at 2am and had to get up - go to the loo and sit down sipping water but i put it down to eating a whole pack of jaffa cakes at about 9.30! And was like why did i do that - told dh it was his fault and he should of stopped me lol!

Oh yeah forgot to say earlier as checking my notes made me remember baby's head is now slightly engaged like 1/5th which is on notes as 4/5th's palpable incase anyone wonders. Am only 33 weeks so i reckon he might be another 38weeker as my 1st was born at 38+3!!!

Whiteangel · 04/07/2012 22:19

All well at midwife's this morning. Head nit engaged yet but resting on the rim of my pelvis. Doc can't do anything to help with neck and shoulder pain so going back to physio on Friday. Also got pain when I stand which I think might be sciatica. Not been a problem so far as disappears when I move but might become a problem over next few weeks. One of my friends from work was due today. No news as of last night but waiting to hear. Her baby's head was engaged ages ago and the midwife said he was going to be early but she was obviously mistaken! 36 weeks tomorrow!

tashaw28 · 04/07/2012 22:47

3bears lots of breech advice for u as DS2 was breech c section so spend lots of time on your knees and elbows, try not to walk too much as u don't want the bum to get wedged in ur pelvis as makes it harder for them to turn! I tried frozen peas on top of bump as they don't like the cold, shining a torch at bottom of bump near pelvis go they move towards the light, and ditto with music! Then I tried moxibustion (google it!!) and had 2 ECV's, but he was a stubborn little thing and wouldn't budge!!! Hope that helps! Feel for u as breech was much more uncomfortable, I remember not being able to drive properly even! Good luck!

Loupee · 04/07/2012 22:49

panpipe its the Uppababy Vista we are waiting on, I think my colour choice has something to do with the longer wait as well. Just frustrating really.
Also got my tens machine that I've hired through today, they automatically send it out around 37 weeks, and I keep it for 7 weeks. Can't believe in a couple of days I'll be considered 'full term'
Just fed up feeling uncomfortable now, and fed up missing DH, just can't wait til he's back, and fed up of being fed up. Grr, sorry for the rant, can you tell I'm fed up! Off to bed now anyway, hopefully I'll wake up in a better mood.

ishopthereforeiam · 05/07/2012 01:13

ham and love thanks - spoke to sister and she is actually fine about it all, just mother digging heels in but bigger and better things to worry about with only 23 days to go.

ham - good luck with smoking man, whichever course of action you take.

80s what a bitch! Just because she chose to work like a mentalist mad woman doesn't mean you have to! Did you want to work up until 39 weeks? I worked up until dd was born (she came a week early) but although a stressful job didn't have any pressure from bosses more my own!

Morning folks, am with you all on feeling sick - weirdly it seems to be connected to being hungry so think I just need to eat more :)

I've done some research about my dizziness (=phoned GP dad) and apparently most likely reason is due to pressure of bump on vena cava (some big artery/vein pumping blood from feet to heart) combined with low blood pressure. If anyone else is suffering tips are to not stay in one sitting/standard position for too long. If sitting to lean forwards and to keep wiggling toes to stimulate blood flow. The very best position to be in is the plank. Very useful at this stage of pregnancy!!!

Hope that helps others.

Re: breach. The cat yoga position is apparently very good. Instead of lying on sofa or slouching/leaning back, lie on side or turn a dining chair round and lean forward over back of chair. Have also heard acupuncture works!

ishopthereforeiam · 05/07/2012 12:42

Morning all Grin. I thought dstobe might make it out on this thread but just seen we're 40 posts away from a new one... we're a chatty bunch Blush!

Hope you're all having a lovely day? Slept so badly last night but just had a two hour nap so feeling much better.

Lovemarmite · 05/07/2012 12:44

Good afternoon!

OK, was holding off posting as I know it'll be a moan - but here goes Wink sorry!
Feeling really sick today and so joining the 'sicky group' now, didn't sleep from 3.30am onwards and had to get up as hip hurt so bad and then restless legs and then felt so tired, I cried!
Oh, what has become of me?! Still 5 weeks to go...

LO seems to like Bon Jovi and The Cure Hmm she was dancing around to 'you give love a bad name' which made me giggle but the tiredness made me wonder what it'll be like when she's here in August wriggling around and I'm this tired :)

One of my ankles (left one) is puffy and the other is not. I don't think I should worry as one side of puffy is a sign of pre-eclampsia but maybe I should mention it to the mw? has anyone experienced one side puffing up more than the other?
Mine has not gone down since yesterday but I guess the lack of sleep might have not helped. Trying to keep it up and drink lots of water but it seems either the same or slightly bigger Hmm I can see that LO is on that side as she's taken to lying on my left hand side and making a big bulge. DH last night found it quite curious as he kind of held her from the outside and then he got kicked!

ishop glad your sister is fine. I have a family thing this weekend and I'm dreading it as my mum has been playing her odd games too and I really want to ignore her. I might just go for a few hours and feign complete tiredness!

Lovemarmite · 05/07/2012 12:44

Two hour nap... ahhhh that sounds soooo good....

Vinolover · 05/07/2012 13:42

Marmite my right ankle/foot/calf swells up more than my left if that helps you at all. It's all very strange!
I feel your pain on feeling sick and exhausted. I just want a good nights sleep but that will be months away now. eek

eighties I can't believe you're working up until 39 weeks! I'm struggling to get to next week and I only do a few hours a week lol. Such a shame about your brother too! Lets hope bubs decideds to come nice and early to meet their uncle :)

I'm having to go off for a scan later as baby is measuring 3/4 weeks behind. I was spot on 31cm at 31wks and today at 34+5 I'm still measuring 31cm. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about though, maybe he was just lying awkwardly? Will let you know the outcome. I'm excited to see him again though :) Oh, he's now head down too which is good :)

susiegrapevine · 05/07/2012 13:47

Just dropped ds off at nursery so have 4hrs of me time/sorting out stuff for baby time. Yay!

Yes marmite I had one side puffy and one not but mine was mainly due to sitting in traffic on the way back from work (bexhill to hastings! You will know being local) and it was my clutch foot so I think all that upping and downing affected it. Also had elephant feet and ankels after my long journey on sun so I think any kind of sitting upright does not help, try to elevate your feeting when sitting. Anyway read an article about it that said no need to worry re pre-eclampsia if they go down again (ie overnight) and you have no other symtoms so I think you are ok but if you are worried there is no harm in speaking to midwife about it.

Lovemarmite · 05/07/2012 14:49

Hope your scan goes well vinolover, let us know how you get on.

Thanks for letting me know about elephant ankles and one side puffing up more than the other. Makes me feel a little less freakish :)
Am sitting here resting the puffy foot on an upturned bin whilst I snooze work.

Hope you have a good few hours of you time susie!

hamncheese · 05/07/2012 14:52

My feet puffed up so much on my trip up north the other day that when we stopped for a toilet break I couldn't get my boots back on Blush (had taken them off for comfort) so had to put my feet half in them each and walk as if I was wearing platform boots. This plus the fact that I was totally wet and dishevelled from walking around a castle in misty rain all morning must have made me look quite amusing.

I keep on getting a bucket of cold water and putting my feet in them for 10 minutes then giving them a good massage and lying on the couch with legs up against the back of the couch/wall. Apparently this kind of stuff is meant to help . Toes still look like marshmallows though.

Weekipper · 05/07/2012 15:09

Loupee we're waiting on an uppababy vista too! J Lewis said they'd have stock next week so fingers crossed. We did order it 17/6.

I think there's something in law about pregnant women should have access to a place to rest while working. Certainly I was given a risk assessment which had that box ticked. So if you're feeling more weary best to mention it, I reckon. I'm counting my blessings as I started my summer hols and mat leave starts Sunday before EDD so I finished at 34weeks- good timing.

Also like hamandcheese I think mentioned support stockings don't seem to be talked about up here. Any pressure on my ankles leaves an indent just now, is it something I should try?

Have got newborn nappies, wipes etc but wondering where to buy wrap style plain babygros? The ones I see tend to just pull over head.

Loving Tour de France being on. Have a wee crush on Cav! Blush

ishopthereforeiam · 05/07/2012 15:23

love maybe we should throw our mum's in a room together Wink good luck this weekend. If you need a get out a friend of mine suggested just say you're going along to said family gathering then on the day say you've got cramps / can't make it as ill.

weeki i only had the stockings on in labour and provided by hospital so sorry can't be more helpful as they didn't say anything about them beforehand. For baby grows we just use the multi pack ones (sleepsuit type things) that are poppers all the way up and down so no pulling overhead (you can get then in supermarkets, mamas & papas, mothercare etc).

OP posts:
Lovemarmite · 05/07/2012 15:36

ishop yes, great idea let's put them in a room together, thing is, they'd probably get on!! The family thing is around my sister's house only a few roads away and so I'd get a knock on the door from them (parents live 2 hours away) as they couldn't not say 'hello', but I like your thinking! I might just go for minimal time and support my sister as she's less than looking forward to it too. My dad acts like he's 4 years old as my mum doesn't let him think for himself and so I could just talk to him for a while and that involves talking about a cartoon character or made up fiction!

Weekipper MIL bought us a few kimono style nb clothes from Frugi - they're quite expensive, hence a welcomed present but they look lovely. Frugi was also called 'Cut4cloth' and apparently styled for cloth nappies that are bit bulkier - but that's one of my huge questions when it comes to clothes fitting over nappies Confused.

Ham my toes are marshmallows too!
My look I'm sporting today is maternity leggings, a top that still fits over my bump, a strange looking sarong over that, hair scraped into a bun with a head band on to keep my hair away from my face, a pair of flip flops that I'm bursting out of - ooooo so sexy! DH is keeping his distance.

ImissMiniPop · 05/07/2012 16:15

Good luck with the scan vino, sometimes their measurements aren't entirely accurate, so hopefully scan will put your mind at ease.

Love it that your bump likes bon Jovi marmite :o

so, we're gearing up for Minipop to come home. I have car seat & base arriving today (as long as amazon don't cock up deliver), dehumidifier for flat, bassinet and pushchair arriving Saturday.... Big boots order arriving tomorrow...

Eek!

frillylemons · 05/07/2012 16:24

Vino, get back on here and tell us how the scan went!

Poppy, well done you, getting all organised...how exciting.

MOAN ALERT
I have two German students and I am REALLY struggling with them. They are so RUDE. They are 13 year old girls and I thought they would e lovely, but no. How wrong was I? We try desperately to make conversation, and they just grunt and push thier food (that I made for them) around their plates like I have served them do poo. Their English is good, but they just don't talk! One of them is grossly overweigh and smells and they seem to poop constantly (not even opening a window) Angry It's got to the point where I dread going home after work because they'll be there :( They go a week tomorrow.

Moan over, sorry. Just had to get it out.

As you were...

susiegrapevine · 05/07/2012 16:44

Sorry to hog the thread but just had to say how excited I am for you poppy yay he's coming home! And I'm sure you will be a brill mum and cope fine.

frilly I think its pot luck, my mum had german students a while back when I was a teenager and living at home. The 1st lot were lovely and you couldn't ask for nicer girls we even made friends with them and one bless her was ill so we sat in her room and played cards with her etc. The next lot were so horrible they had a bread roll fight in there room and my mum had to call the school to get them removed! And they were! My mum swore never to have students again.

frillylemons · 05/07/2012 16:47

You're right Susie. The majority we have are lovely, and we have had lovely Germans before...it just sucks when they are so awful/rude! Hey ho, it's extra money!

frillylemons · 05/07/2012 17:35

In other news... my BabyMel changing bag has arrived from America!!! Very exciting Grin

tashaw28 · 05/07/2012 17:39

Yes Vino come on! When I was measuring small last pregnancy it was because DS2 was breech!!
Anyway am so bored today, DS2 home from school with tonsillitis and I've been trying to keep my distanceSadjust in case I catch it.
