Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Passmethecrisps · 30/04/2012 19:51

Good evening ladies.

Yesterday I felt semi-human so I did some housework and baked scones. So good so mormal. However, from the moment I opened my eyes this morning I have felt awful. I have had an aching head all day and just want to close my eyes. I ended up coming home early as I was non-teaching after lunch. Went to bed when I got home and slept for an hour but still not 100%.

Might head off to bed to watch Dr Who on iPlayer.

Great news everso must be a massive relief.

Thinking of those o you facing going back to work having been unwell. Scary thought - I'm bad enough following a weekend!

TheDetective · 30/04/2012 19:54

Yes Donna, that sounds usual :)

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 30/04/2012 19:55

GT - we did NCT first time around. It was good, but I had done quite a lot of reading (and mumsnetting!) beforehand so didn't really tell me anything I didn't know.

Socially, it was useful, we would meet every week for the first few months. But I'm only in contact with one of them now, and the others aren't in contact at all, and to be honest, I've made much closer friends at groups etc. It's luck of the draw though, because I have a friend who still meets regularly with her group 8 years later, and they holiday together too!

One of the best things I did was the NCT tea groups - basically a group of 8 of so of us with similar aged babies were grouped together by a tea group host, and then met at each other's houses (and the pub!). We're all really close now. That was in SE london, we have since moved to the sticks and there's nothing like that here!

Evilwater · 30/04/2012 20:32

Izzy I hope the bleeding stops.
The detective I hope the crisps thing stops soon.

I have to wait until the end of may to have another scan. That's when I will be 20 weeks, and start to buy things. I also am looking forward to feeling the baby.

I have been getting the fog, the timing has been really bad as we have a new boss. So I looked like idiot. A silent, hasn't got a clue idiot, who hasn't got a sence of humour.

Well I'm off to st Ives tomorrow.

TheDetective · 30/04/2012 20:33

My roast potatoes were carcinogenic. They have been sent back to the kitchen with complaints to the chef Grin Mash potato is now being prepared.... tut.

I'm such a mard! But they were AWFUL! And I like my potatoes well done, but they needed a mallet to them....

ValiumQueen · 30/04/2012 20:47

Detective I think your partner must be a saint!

horseylady · 30/04/2012 21:07

I was planning on doing the nct classes. They're 170 here? Just had a brill riding lesson having threatened to sell the beast before it for basically being an evil cow!!! I then got back and my ponies rider hadn't returned and I thought mmm bet she's gone to the river.....there's a flood warning in place!!! Sure enough that's what shed done....words fail me!! Just walked the dogs for an hour and now watching the apprentice!! I'm not tired yet :) yes!!!! Thanks for the kind words yesterday!!

TheDetective · 30/04/2012 21:13

I think you could be right Valium!

I'm high maintenance Blush

And he hasn't has so much as a sexy glance in 3 months.... eeeek!

tomatoplantproject · 30/04/2012 21:22

Hope you guys are all ok - izzy am keeping fx for you and yay for good scans.

I've been sounding out friends about NCT and have had a mixed response - although one friend said that £200 to buy a group of local friends going through it at exactly the same time is worth it, and this kinda makes sense.

God knows where we are though with money - the house is going to be quite a lot over budget if we don't scrap some bits - we got planning permission today Grin and dh told the builder about the baby so think we may get some extra favours by pulling on his heart strings!

jenbird · 30/04/2012 21:25

I just did NHS class with my first but wish I had done NCT. There was no social element to the NHS classes whereas I know that plays a large part in the NCT ones. Lots of my friends who have done NCT are still in contact with the people they met at the classes. I was quite lonely for the first few years after my ds1 was born. It was only when he started preschool that I have established a great group of mum friends.

detective your dp sounds like a saint. I struggle to get my dh to stop for a hot chocolate even when we are driving past starbucks!

Currently tucked up in bed and shan't be moving for at least 10 hers (except to pee). Oh the glamour...

StuntNun · 30/04/2012 21:34

Apple could the nausea be due to taking Pregnacare? The dizziness is due to low blood pressure which is common in pregnancy.

OP posts:
Elizadoesdolittle · 30/04/2012 21:55

donna as chunky said if it's combined test you don't get the risk results there and then. In my case I will get a letter in a couple of weeks but I will get a call within 3 days if it comes back high risk. So what you've said sounds about right. However I did ask the sonographer what the nuchel fold measurement was and it was very low. It's also listed on the report that they gave me after the scan, although I can't see it on the actual photos itself. If your measurement was unusually high the sonographer would more than likely have drawn it to your attention as happened with a friend of mine.

Re NCT I agree with a lot of the other comments. Personally I didn't learn anything new, but one thing it did help me with is to have the confidence to try and go through labour without an epidural. Prior to my classes I was sure I wanted every drug going but I ended up having none. Am also still close to the friends I met through it and a group of 5 of us meet weekely. It's lovely for my DD to have friends the same age as her and so sweet to see them all together.

Having said all that, I did make another group of really good friends through a pregnancy fitness class. If I had known I would meet reguarly with them I probably would have saved my money and not done the NCT classes.

ValiumQueen · 30/04/2012 21:58

Never been one to buy friends personally, but I do see the point of going to NCT groups. I could not justify or indeed find the dosh.

blonderthanred · 30/04/2012 22:20

Hello, hello all. Have been floating on air today after seeing my lovely baby this morning. It did a little roll around which we were delighted about, although the sonographer was less so as it made the measuring more tricksy. She let me go to the loo mid-scan as I was wincing a bit, I could have held on but I wasn't going to argue. Aaagh the relief.

So the nuchal measurement was 2.3, which is in the normal range - they did give this to me straight away Donna - but the blood test will take about 2 weeks to come back if normal, or 1 week if not. I sort of thought I'd already agreed to the combined test but the mw talked for ages about deciding whether to have the blood test, she seemed to be leaning against it as she kept talking about false positives blighting the pregnancy but in the end we went ahead.

I know it sounds silly but looking at the screen during the scan I just felt so happy and had an overwhelming feeling that this baby is fine. I'm not one to go by feelings over science but also I'm normally a right worrier and in this case I just feel happy and confident and positive. Just give me a few days for the high to wear off and I'll be back to my neurotic self I'm sure. But today you can't wipe the smile off my face (or get me to do any constructive work).

Oh and Detective - I also had a small go at DH on the subject of the correct crisps. It's important!

Kyzordz · 30/04/2012 22:34

Hello everyone :) Saw baby this morning, it was just breathtaking! Now I know I really haven't been imagining it, there's a tiny person in there! An awkward tiny person but one there nonetheless! Bean wouldn't lie right so she sent me for a walk, kept getting me to wiggle about and allsorts! She got the NT measurement in the end and said it was a normal measurement, didn't say anything more, and my official EDD is 10/11/12 :) It's nice to have a 'proper' one! Despite not moving much position wise there were arms and legs flailing all over the place! Baby did do a roll and a couple of flips but mostly wanted to settle as though lying in a hammock with it's chin firmly on it's abdomen, making him/her look smaller than he/she actually is, it was a fiddly bean, that's for sure!

The OH was ever so sweet, he was watching the screen like he'd never seen a tv before, totally mesmerized and has just been saying all day how completely amazing it is :) He's taken some of the scan photos into work, bless him :)

I'm off to bed now, am dozing off writing this! Hope everyone else has had a good day! My next scan isn't until the 25th June, and the OH is looking at private scans as he doesn't think he can wait that long! Night all

Jaylee89 - waiting

applepieinthesky · 01/05/2012 00:00

jaylee are you still waiting for a scan date? Shock

I don't take pregnacare stuntnun. All I take is folic acid, calcium and vit d tablets.

I'm really unsure about paying out all that money for NCT classes. They sound good but we don't have a huge amount of money and I think about all the baby things I could buy for that.

Tiago · 01/05/2012 06:57

apple the dizziness now is prob due to your blood flow being redirected to your womb. Don't worry - that too shall pass!

And I am not showing either. If anything people keep saying I look thinner Hmm!

13 weeks today. I am officially 2nd trimester and there is no sign of any problem. I may begin to breathe again soon.

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/05/2012 07:03

Glad to hear about the scans going well :)

Still have 10 days to go argh!

misslaughalot · 01/05/2012 07:41

Woo hoo, it's May! I'm 11 weeks today and 10 days until our scan, I can count them days on my fingers!

Its fantastic to read all the positive scan stories. Congratulations Blonder and Kyz. I'm so excited and unbelievably scared for ours. Can't help but think its not going to go well. DH I love reading your posts as you're saying exactly what I'm thinking!

Good luck to Izzy, Daisy and Westwinger today!

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/05/2012 07:46

Aw thanks misslaughalot! We're in the same boat having the scans on the same day, I'm scared about it too!

stabiliser15 · 01/05/2012 08:33

Morning! We had our scan yesterday afternoon, and am thrilled to report everything looks good. Was dated as 12+3 instead of 13 but suspected dates based on LMP wouldnt be quite right, so very much as expected. EDD now confirmed at 09/11/12.

The nuchal measurement was coming up as 1.7 so the sonographer said it was very likely to be low risk as the threshold in this PCT is 3.5.

We've told the rest of our families and will start to make it public once I have told work - not sure when to do it so will wait for the right moment.

Re NCT - I didnt bother when I was pregnant with DD. I thought it was a waste of money we didnt have really, and I'm the kind of person that didnt really like the idea of befriending people just because they were having the same experience at the same time. But then my DH thinks I am very antisocial sometimes, and I have a couple of close friends who have children a year or two older than DD, so had friends who "knew" that I could call upon. I also knew I'd be going back to work reasonably early on, so felt less of a need to build a social circle based on babies, rather than work. Imagine I'll do the same this time.

Good luck to those having scans today!

NervousAt20 · 01/05/2012 08:42

Congratulations to all the ladies with good scan results and fingers crossed for lots of very low NT results!

Good luck to all the ladies with scans today! Hope your feelin better today izzy

Elizadoesdolittle · 01/05/2012 09:12
