Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jaylee89 · 21/03/2012 18:44

i live in bristol and we have two maternity hospitals. with DD i went to st micheals which were ok during the pushing stage but from 3cm to 9cm i had no midwife around me at all. i was constantly pressing the nurse buzzer for god knows how long and my mum in and out of the room telling the miswife i wanted more pain relief!

i also have southmead which i have heard are brilliant but its a little furthur out for me. ill try st micheals again as i have heard they are alot better now. mind you i did have DD 5 yrs ago so they have had along time for improvement.

even thou it is a bit early for me to be thinking of hospitals at the moment. lol 7 weeks on saturday roll onnnnn!!!!! xxx

TheDetective · 21/03/2012 18:58

Hello Ladies!

Izzy That is wonderful news! So pleased that all is well! And a reason was found for the bleeding - better to know than to be worrying!

I have had a vomit free day again. I am keeping strictly on top of the medication 4 hourly - and I would urge any one else suffering to go and get the damn tablets! They are saving my life - quite literally! I am getting the nausea - but only if I don't eat. At the minute I am eating hourly all day. I can only manage very small amounts in one go, hence the reason for the frequency! I can manage half a sandwich, or a piece of fruit or bag of crisps but nothing more than that. I have separated tea in to two courses tonight! We just had salad - and will be having a small baked potato in an hour!!

I feel so sorry for DP today. He came home with some food for me earlier, and it made me boak! He was all 'but yesterday you wanted it'. Yeeeeees - that was YESTERDAY! Today, baby has different wants. Fussy little bean. Wanting something different every god damn day. What I feel I can tolerate one day, the next I never want it again!

He also mention the 's-e-x' subject. I gave him a graphical description of exactly what would happen if he should jiggle me about. And it won't be a pretty site or pleasant smelling.

We went to Winstanleys Pram World this afternoon, as we live right by it (check them out online). We have now made our final decisions on all things pram and car seat! We have decided on a (if anyone has got this far and/or is interested!) Quinny Buzz in Red. We are getting the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix car seat in red, and the matching footmuff snigger for the car seat. We are not getting the pram bit, after much deliberation, we are always in the car - or in and out of it, so a car seat that just sits on the frame will be fine for us. We wanted the footmuff snigger again for the car seat to give baby a little more protection from the cold months as a newborn! By the time summer arrives - little one will be using the pushchair part facing us more often - so no need for a £160 bloody pram bit! All we need is the rain cover for the car seat, and the rain cover for the pushchair.

Note to self. Shut up. Waffle waffle waffle!

Oh damn, one last thing - to the lady who (and I have forgotten!) has been told you have to see different midwives, where I work - and in every area I have worked - the midwife at the GP gives you your antenatal care. You get referred to the hospital if there are any issues, and go there if that is where you want your baby. There is absolutely no reason why you can't see those midwives during your pregnancy. If you want to PM me, can discuss it further? Don't like to see anyone being given hassle when so unnecessary.

Chunkychicken · 21/03/2012 19:08

Not contradicting you TheDetective but here we have a 'communal' pool of community midwives & you see them at a sure start centre now (or so I'm led to believe) rather than within your own GP as I did first time around. I think they do stints at the hospital & do specific sessions at the centre/in the community. It obviously doesn't matter which GP you go to here as only 1 hospital, but I saw 3 diff MW during my pg last time & had s diff 1 in hospital.

FoofFighter · 21/03/2012 19:19

Seems a very cackhanded way of doing things I have to say CHCH! Why do they have to overcomplicate things I don't know/

Detective my daughter wants the Buzz too, or an iCandy. Feel slightly guilty that i won't be able to help them out as much now I have an unexpected expense of my own! Although her OH earns more than my OH does I kind of feel it's my duty to buy the buggy or cot or something big Confused

WestWingCJ · 21/03/2012 19:24

I love Winstanleys! Only ordered online as live the other end of the country, but they are fab! The Maxi-Cosi footmuff (ho ho) is a fab idea - we had one for DD and she was so snug in it. Trying not to spend as much money this time as we just can't afford it. But I am so weak.....

DebussyHead · 21/03/2012 19:27

Hi everyone, can I join? I've been looking for a due in Nov thread for a couple if weeks but was only checking pregnancy board. Doh! Thanks FoofFighter for pointing me over here Smile.

DC2 for me EDD 08/11/12. Nice to meet you all.

Welcome debussyhead glad you found us in the end! How have you been keeping? :)

TheDetective · 21/03/2012 19:41

ChunkyChicken Yes, a lot of areas are moving clinics in to Childrens Centres now. I just don't want TheChick to think she has to choose one hospital, and if she doesn't, the only alternative is to change GP. If that is what they are suggesting, I am horrified on her behalf!

TheDetective · 21/03/2012 19:42

Foof, why not buy her a cot - but a second hand one? This is what I am doing. Buying myself a second hand cot bed that is?

Chunkychicken · 21/03/2012 19:45

Agreed, does seem a bit ludicrous!!!

And regarding car seats/prams, don't decide yet!!! Make sure that it fits in your car etc as well as shopped around properly, including reading reviews online. We took ages to find the right one and we've stuck with it - other mums I know have been through a fair few over the months. You have LOADS of time to worry about that.

tomatoplantproject · 21/03/2012 19:49

Wow lots of messages and news to read. Izzy - that's brilliant. Chuffed for you!

Not quite getting ms yet but starting to get v fussy and dh is now cooking a carbonara for me cos that's all I can spend and turning up my nose at lots of food except cake despite eating anything normally.

We've also been at the spreadsheets working out money, not helped by the big building project and renting a wee flat whilst we do the work. The main thing is if we can afford me to go part time (yes) - although I think work will say no which is a shame cos I love my job at the moment.

Hello to all the newbies - there really was a lot of us getting jiggy with it in feb eh?

TheDetective · 21/03/2012 19:50

I've been ahem reseaching for a loooooooong long time. I know exactly what I want haha! Good job DP agrees with me ;) We both have cars with big boots, we do walking with the dog etc, so need something 3 wheeled and easy to push. The buzz meets all our needs! Also, I went through 11 prams with DS - and of all of them, the 3 wheeler was the best! I'd of not got another after that if it didn't get pee'd on by a cat... never was the same after that!

We're pretty sure - unless we see something else that out shines! Plus, it is with in our budget!

TheDetective · 21/03/2012 19:52

Oooh, the nose - the sensanose! Does anyone have this? My poor dog isn't allowed near me. I can't stand her smell. I can't stand the smell of much TBH! The sense of smell is the biggest cause of my nausea!!!

Brockle · 21/03/2012 19:52

Hi all, well after calling the community midwives and registering over the telephone. I got a call back with 2 appointments for an earlyt bird group session at a childrens centre on the 4th april and a booking appointment on the 12th at the GPs. Hoping I can see a local midwife at the surestart centre across the road. Bit impressed but that could all change!

jaylee89 I had a bad experience with my DC1 at warrington hospital. I ended up discharging myself and was quite traumatised by it but I braved it a second time and had a really positive experience the second time around. Care Could not have been better. Sometimes it can be the time of year or just general improvement.

Off to bed with some chick tv and a cammomile tea whilst husband watches football. Night all!

FoofFighter · 21/03/2012 19:56

Anyone watching OBEM tonight? I have the telly to myself as OH is out at pool and under STRICT INSTRUCTION to not bring home a stinky kebab this week!!

WaitingForMe · 21/03/2012 20:00

11 Prams TheDetective Confused

What were you doing to them?

I just had a nasty bout of nausea and had DH stroking my hair. Ten minutes later he's buying me fish and chips with vinegar. I hate vinegar usually but have sudden desperate urge for it!

FoofFighter · 21/03/2012 20:08

I'm a pramaholic too and have tried pretty much every brand apart from iCandy. W4me it's impossible to see if a buggy suits you and your child and your lifestyle till you actually get it which is why some people go through so many.

YellowWellies · 21/03/2012 20:10

Oh heck chunkychicken - that does not sound good :( hope it's gotten better since you were last there.

WestWingCJ · 21/03/2012 20:14

DH working late so I shall be OBEM-ing alone tonight. He will be gutted - he likes it more than I do!

FoofFighter · 21/03/2012 20:21

I can't convince my OH to watch it with me, if he needs anything in the room he runs in with his hands over his eyes, methinks someone is in for a shock in about 7 months time!!

DebussyHead · 21/03/2012 20:23

I'm keeping ok thanks Foof much like the rest if you in terms of nausea, tiredness, dizzy, weepy and hungry ALL the time! Thanks for adding me to the EDD list as I'm on iPhone too.

I have an iCandy peach and I love it! Will get blossom attachment for November but really can't recommend them highly enough. Apparently there is a Strawberry model now too which wasn't around 2 yes ago when I was last looking.

Chunkychicken · 21/03/2012 20:30

Agree with the 3-wheeler thing - ours is the Britax b-smart 3. Love it. I thought Quinny's were popular but often got bad reviews cos they're heavy etc. I've just got to decide whether its worth doing the double buggy route now or not!!!

Never watch OBEM (just when channel hopping) for different reasons throughout, but in short, can't face the contrast to my own (limited) experience most of the time do would rather not get p'ed off/upset & just switch over!!

WestWingCJ · 21/03/2012 20:32

foof yep - big shock for him! Do you reckon he could be a fainter?!?! Grin

FoofFighter · 21/03/2012 20:41

oh yes!

We've already decided that we need his mum at the birth, to support HIM Grin at least I can get on with business without worrying he's going to keel over or something. He doesn't handle hospitals well at all :)

Thechick · 21/03/2012 20:43

Thanks TheDetective for your advice. Ill talk to them again, I have my 'registering my pregnancy' appointment on Saturday so I'll get clarification. I'm based in London, not sure if that makes a difference to anything. It all just feels too soon to be thinking about all of this.
