Okay, so I have finally started the new thread.
All right everyone?

I have been awake most of the night with contractions of some sort or another. A really tight bump for most of the night. Things seem to have a settled down a bit but I've had a lovely brown globular show this morning. Contractions are still niggling but my midwife said it is fairly easy to 'put the lid on them' at this stage with a bath and some painkillers to give myself a little more time. Basically, she's not ready, dh is not ready and I'm still not ready yet...
I will be by tonight though. Have decided I need to put my stuff in it's bag and sort out house today. So here goes....

scooby doo on here too, boomerang is great in school hols

I am being mean with the xbox this week as they nag for it endlessly if you let them play it, might put it on this pm, ds2 wants a go on the dance mat, hmmmmmm now there's a thought, although not sure i want my waters to go standing on something electrical

No buffy etc in the day time here any more but we are working our way through Angel season 1 at night having run out of firefly and still waiting for serenity to come out on dvd

I only know a couple of people in RL who are into Joss Weedon stuff and they don't have kids, is good to know I am not a complete freak

Argh!!!!!! it kept saying i had no internet connection which i have as chatting on msn too. then suddenly hundreds of message!

Flamesparrow · 16/02/2006 12:03

pmsl - glad to see just how much you're enjoyng scooby doo! DD is loving Dooby dooooo week... I am fascinated by some of the modern ones and the storylines - GM crops yesterday!!! I will admit to watching some of the film ones - tis good though, you have to watch out for the line that they keep sticking in... someone will say something like "No dogs allowed in here" and scooby will say "Dog? Where??"

I am sat here on my birth ball, playing on the xbox - shooting little coloured balls at other coloured balls... its sad, but addictive! Hoovered lounge, put a wash load in, so done a few bits.

No fighting games are allowed on the xbox while DD is around, but whereas whilst DH is playing it is so that she doens't get all enthusiastic about the kicking, if I am playing it is so that she isn't exposed to mummy's foul language!!!

MrsDoolittle · 16/02/2006 12:06

Listen Ladies!! - Get out of the bath!!!
I saw you mention a bath Flame, despite the fact it was you who advised me that having a bath was likely to stop contractions.
Well you were right!!!I had about 4 baths over Friday evening and Saturday and theres no doubt that this contributed to my "long spurious labour" !

Goodluck.

Having a nightmare here. Poor darling is crucified with colic, it's so distressing

I don't get a look in on the xbox with 2 boys around unless they get stuck but then they think daddy more able to help..... true

Current fave with them is lego starwars which is cool as when you shoot people they fall apart into lego brick so not really killing stuff and it all looks like real lego

Jasnem · 16/02/2006 12:08

I'm generally quite mean with the x box, but she watches her dad in the evenings sometimes, and would play on it all day if I let her. DD2 isn't interested at all - she's in her room making up songs and dancing. Proof of how different two kids from the same parents can be. Might have to turn it off in a mo and do lunch.
Maybe we could make biscuits - that'd kill 1/2 an hour

Oh, dear, fighting over who gets to sit on the rocking chair now.
My mum got it for me and brought it over yesterday - it's wonderful having a mother who works in a charity shop.

Jasnem · 16/02/2006 12:17

I've compromised with you can shoot things when they are aliens and disappear (or turn into lego bricks) when you hit them, but no shooting people/things that lie in a pool of blood with guts hanging out.

If it was only me there would be nothing rated more than 3, but DD is very good and tells on her dad if he's playing games she's not allowed to watch.

Flamesparrow · 16/02/2006 12:31

We seem to have pretty similar rules (although a lot of my xbox decisions are on an individual basis).... No blood. No people who look like people kicking each other (we learnt from about 18 months that if people look like people and are getting hurt, then she is more likely to copy and/or be upset - zombies scare her, but demons don't (vamps she's just learnt "have unfortunate foreheads and aren't scary really"). Again, if they are shot and just collapse like they are sleeping, or disappear, then its generally ok.

I have very odd limits on things ... like with her whole spiderman thing right now. She seems to have taken in that the man wearing the outfit and mask is different to normal people, but since she is a normal person, she can't fly/kick hell out of people. She's starting to want to watch batman too, which I think will be a similar kind of thing (old Batman films and cartoons, definately not batman begins... that scarecrow scared me - she'd not sleep for weeks!)

Jasnem · 16/02/2006 12:38

DD1 is scared by the oddest things - even the scariest games are fine, but the Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe gave her nightmares - not the film - the original story on tape! She hasn't seen the film.
I think most of my game censorship is down to my embarrasment when she tells other people about them
Thankfully we haven't got sex in them to complicate matters even more.

Oh, have to say about scooby...I only really watch it for the sound track. There is a whole series which I am convinced has it's music by the Ramones. Don't know for sure, as can never read the credits.
Am I just showing my age again?

DS1 wouldwatch anything that's cartoon but found things with real people scarey, think he's growing out of this but it as if he had worked out is not real if cartoon but struggled for longer with seeing real people doing stuff.

A few months ago he was very cross with friends from school, (one of which was 7 already) because they insisted that thunderbirds/spiderman etc were real and obviously hadn't got the idea that tv is pretend which he grasped some time ago so found it annoying as he knew he was right.

hotmama · 16/02/2006 12:59

Just checking in between feeds - I used to post every 5 mins - now lucky if once a week!

After 2 nights of complete sleep nightmare - dd2 seems to be getting the hang of day/night. Bf going o.k - having to use shields as nips a bit sore. Had a La Leche lady round last night - really helped!

Hope you are all O.K. - enjoy the calm before the storm.

4blue1pink · 16/02/2006 15:31

Just a real quickie - been vomiting today due to pain - killers for after pains so feeling very weak.......

I had a sweep to start me off and i had it at 12 midday - mild labour pains developed by 4 ish - then another sweep at 7.30 - baby born 9.53....

I still think the first one got me revved up but second one brought full blown labour in iterally seconds!
Good luck girls and hope to be back in Mumsnet-action soon!

4blue1pink · 16/02/2006 15:31

literally!

trace2 · 16/02/2006 16:41

congrats

Flamesparrow · 16/02/2006 17:38

How's everyone been this afternoon?

Spent mine at my mums, dozed on sofa a bit. The occasional sharp pain, but nothing regular Hoping for a weekend baby still, but not expecting it iyswim.

HM - glad the breastfeeding is starting to get settled with the help of the lady.

4B1P - sorry for the sickness! You kind of think things are gonna be better once the baby's out don't you!? My friend says that afterpains got steadily worse with each baby, and by #5 she was in agony with them.

Jasnem · 16/02/2006 18:13

Flamesparrow, have you seen this?

Jasnem · 16/02/2006 18:18

I've cleaned, hoovered, changed beds, walked, and generally tried to keep moving this pm. I'm finding that I've got pains in my legs and groin, and go completely stiff if I sit for any length of time.

4b1p - hope the pain doesn't last too long for you. Hope you're getting as much rest as you can with your nameless little boy.

Thell · 16/02/2006 22:08

Sending lots of hugs to you guys - you all sound pretty fed up
I'm trying not to get the grumps - not really sure what I want at the moment. Even my big gay hairdresser noticed I was retaining water!! And my belly is red and sore and itchy with new stretch marks (and possibly not helped because I shaved my strange dark hairs off the other day, and they're growing back,...). And I feel like I'm getting a cold, but it's probably just an intolerance to cows' milk coming back, just to annoy me. And I want this baby to come! But really I don't, I'd like a day of not being pregnant and not thinking about it .

I've been booked in for an extra scan tomorrow morning - to check growth, baby position and placental position. All these have been checked and okayed before, but I think my new midwives would just like to double check that everything is ok for the home birth. It will be nice to see the baba again - and check she hasn't changed sex!! Trying to focus on the good stuff

Thell · 16/02/2006 22:15

And big congratulations to 4P1B!

I gather from the use of epidural you didn't have a water birth - but did you labour for a while in water in the end?

Frizbetheexpansionset · 16/02/2006 23:16

Hi all, think we need some cheering up by the sounds of it.....could someone drop tonight to give us all a boost

Lol at the multi posts Helen, its a pain when the comp's on slow load isn't it!

Jas, I've had a few leg pains today as well....currently have nice back ache, ho hum!
Welshcakes as well yummy!!

Flame, sure the buffy can't do any harm

Upset dd earlier, as have made two huge chocolate cakes with her today, which I did explain were for two of her 'Aunties' as both had birthdays this week, and that mummy was going to see each of them tonight(and she got to eat loads of cake making material whilst we decorated etc) but when it actually came to me leaving the house with cakes and without her (as bed time, which daddy was taking care of!) boy did she throw a fit..... she even managed to unhook her coat from the cupboard hook whilst dh trying to reason with her! and its usually well out of reach, didn't realise she could jump so high when determined!! bless.....be interesting to see if she's fallen out with me tomorrow!

Tabs · 17/02/2006 07:53

Morning ladies - haven't had chance to say congratulations to 4b1p yet, so congratulations! Sorry to hear that you are suffering badly with the afterpains too. Mine have thankfully eased up enough now for me to start feeling human again, so look on the bright side that if they are really bad then they probably won't last as long.

Will try and catch up with rest of you later, though never seen Buffy and don't have xbox or equivalent, so I might not be qualified to join in .

Oh, and could one of you have a baby now please .

Flamesparrow · 17/02/2006 08:24

We're trying our hardest Tabs!!! (And quite frankly, you should be ashamed of yourself... a grown woman and never seen Buffy??? - get thee to a Blockbusters... most of em rent out some, or watch some Sky in the morning!!! Tis a very very bad thing you have told us )

Frizbe - DD would have been like that over the cakes too!!!!

Things are just getting bloody silly here... Went for my meal (sooooooooooooo nice), came home, bed... woke about 4am with stomach pains, so rolled over and tried to ignore them, and after about an hour dozed off again (once again expecting to wake with more...), and woke with none - again! I have a low stomach ache now, but fairly constant, so not like contractions really, and a few tightenings.

Quick question - do people REALLY think its helpful to "joke" that you will be 10 days overdue, or to tell you that they had on off things like this for "15/20/30 days before the baby came"??? I tell people how late DD was, but only in an "i've been there" kind of way - people seem to just want to gloat with me I am fed up and low enough, without "jokes" about how late I will be.

Officially only 39 weeks today, so not meant to be moaning for another week .

Ixel - feel free to throw things at me .

Oooooh, now that was a hurty tightening low pain... liked that one!
