I'm so glad that you had such a lovely story Pomme, well, you know in terms of a birth :)

It sounds like you did amazingly well as well. I've also never heard of this Diamorphine?

I only ever had G&A with DS (and then the spinal after) so I can't remember much about the other options!

And I would give my right arm to have a start to bf like that - it sounds absolutely text book!

And yes, Purple, you'll be next - how exciting! Am I right that you're due a week on Friday? Did your DD come early or late?

DreamingOfPeace · 29/02/2012 21:02

wow pomme, amazing story. I am so flabbergasted you got from 5 to 10cm in 20 minutes, and having not survived THE DRIP with just gas and air I'm sure you are in fact superwoman Grin. With THE DRIP, as the syntocinon is obviously the synthetic form (of the natural labour hormone oxytocin) it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier, so you don't get the endorphins of a spontaneous labour so no 'natural' pain relief either. I can't tell you how impressed I am!!!!! plus, I know exactly what you mean- I thought I needed a poo when dd finally arrived and told them that, nd they ignored me- and then I twigged that I wanted to push!

Oh, I wish I had it all behind me and had my babies here!!!!!!!!!

scarlet, diamorphine can make you and baby a bot out of it afaik from antenatal last time. or dh or my dad telling me- can't remember which!

fishcake, how wonderful your baby is growing nicely and following the curve, Thanks for you!!! 4 weeks 6 days til you meet them!

DreamingOfPeace · 29/02/2012 21:06

oh- will look forward to the positive CS story too fishcake!!!! I told DH I was wibbling about ELCS at 38 weeks and he resolutely says we should stick to that, no more inductions. So have relaxed a bit about that decision, as I would only want to go for induction if he really thought it was a giid idea and was supportive- which he isn't. If I get that far, he wants them out safely and me not ripped in 2 again Smile
now just if I go into labour earlier to worry about

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 29/02/2012 21:07

Wow Pomme! That's a real superwoman birth story! Well done again!!!!

Wants3 · 29/02/2012 21:09

I think diamorphine is the new pethidine. My sister put pethidine as an option on her birth plan and midwife changed it to diamorphine.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/02/2012 21:16

I am indeed due a week Friday and I think Too is my competition as I believe her ELCS is on my actual due date. Sadly I was 40+13 with Dd and now this baby has turned OP I am not so optimistic that he will be a bit early as there just isn't the pressure on my cervix.
Little buggar he had been OA until recently, I can really feel the difference on my ball as it kills my back to bounce on my ball with him this way round!

Oh My Gopping Granny bag Wink has been dispatched already! Exciting! Can't believe I splurged like that though I am a chew things over for ages type usually!
Dream plenty of time to find a bargain on ebay. And imo a decent bag for all the stuff you have to carry is very important I think I can't stand not being organised.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/02/2012 21:25

What do OP and OA mean?

I'm guessing something posterior and anterior but I can never remember which one (if either) means back to back?

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/02/2012 21:28

Op is back to back, and OA is back round your front and is the optimal position. About to start OBEM hope it doesn't freak me out!

Biscuitsandtea · 29/02/2012 21:49
pommedechocolat · 29/02/2012 22:36

Diamorphine made me a little bit high for an hour or so but nothing you couldn't control really. It couldn't overcome the new baby feelings anyway! Abbie seemed fine. I think hospital policy decides which one is used and I think pethidine has more of a reputation for making baby sleepy??

DreamingOfPeace · 29/02/2012 23:21

Abbie would have probably arrived too quickly to get any!!

I have not watched OBEM. Relief.

I'll keep checking g eBay purple... I'm just impatient. The boring but practical skip hop duo double will still be cheaper though...

jaggythistle · 01/03/2012 07:17

Mornin All.

Thanks for that pomme :)

Not watched OBEM yet either, fell asleep while watching a DVD on the couch last night and went to bed early ish. In my defence I did start work at 6am.

good job baby fishcake!

Biscuitsandtea · 01/03/2012 07:39

Morning Preggos, and I guess morning to our rapidly increasing graduate population and 2nd generation brookers Grin.

Hope everyone is well this morning.

I have a mw check up later - nothing too exciting (presumably), just a routine 36 week appt. then I've got this monitoring again tomorrow.

I've had a bit of classic pregnancy brain this morning Blush. DH lost a filling last night and it's pretty painful so he can't really eat much now (bless him) but after he'd left for work I found myself thinking how unfair it was that now I couldn't eat on top of everything else I'm not allowed to do. Then I remembered that it's him not me......

I'm wondering if I'm getting a bit egocentric in my late pregnancy state! BlushGrin

Mind you I was none too chuffed this morning when DH said he thinks the baby will come on the 19th March. Does he not realise that is 19 days away for goodness sake! That's nearly 3 weeks Confused. Apparently this is the least convenient day for him Hmm. I do hope he's wrong Confused.

Oh and my mother is convinced that today is the day Hmm....... Hope it doesn't clash with DH's emergency dentist appointment (if he gets one) Hmm

NinjaChipmunk · 01/03/2012 08:30

March 19 is my mind birthday biscuits i'm sure the crumb will emerge sooner than that if you want it to?
Maternity leggings - can anyone recommend any, I need to get some tomorrow.
I hope pomme and baby A are doing ok. Busy day at work, will try to catch up later x

NinjaChipmunk · 01/03/2012 08:37

Bloody smart phone! my mums birthday!

Evilwater · 01/03/2012 08:51

Can I join?
It's my first child, and I'm 6 weeks. So I'm feeling very sick, and eating ginger snaps. Im due around nov.

Ew

pommedechocolat · 01/03/2012 09:24

evilwater - huge congrats and welcome to no brooking! All foodstuffs available :)

biscuits - you could be very close now given when your ds arrived... Exciting! Your mum sounds a bit like mine, very lovely but a little over excitable!

purple - when is your next preferred date for birth now? I'm sure baby will turn as soon as he realises we are brooking. What did you think of the b to b on obem? Seeing the forceps really spurred her on! :)

pommedechocolat · 01/03/2012 09:27

ninja - all good here not much sleep last night but good :)

PopcornMouseInBoots · 01/03/2012 10:13

Yay fishcakes :)

That's a lovely story pomme ! I'm also very impressed with how quickly Abigail came into the world, she was obviously eager to see you in the end :)
Did you find the diamorphine made you a bit "woo"? I'm a bit freaked out by the stories on MN about pethidine making you so drugged up that you barely remember the birth, you know? Confused

:o biscuits not eating in sympathy would be taking it a bit far Wink

Hi evil :)

scream that's so lovely ? I'm glad she's doing well, it must be such a relief for her mother!
I spoke to my friend and she was told by the GP that you're only infectious for 2 days when you first contract it, which is tosh so says google Shock but I have put her off for a few weeks and she seemed to understand

I looked in the mirror last night and I'm definitely starting to bloat bloom ? but I can't really tell if it's Kernal or if I'm just fat. I've not been able to stop eating the past 6 weeks, and I've gained about 4lbs already Shock

NinjaChipmunk · 01/03/2012 10:30

glad to hear it pomme, keep up the good work and rest up where possible.

Welcome Evilwater make yourself comfortable, grab a glittery vom bucket and many congrats on your dc1! Have you got your booking in appointment sorted yet?

NinjaChipmunk · 01/03/2012 10:31

morning popcorn, glad you put your friend off, you don't want to be catching whooping cough at the moment!

NinjaChipmunk · 01/03/2012 10:52

popcorn going back to your weird dreams, have been having some very random dreams recently. For instance I entered a marriage of convenience with George Lamb (whose programs I never really watch so not sure how he entered my subconscious) and found out he liked to wear womens clothing. It was very odd and I?m not entirely sure what my brain was trying to deduce from it!

Wants3 · 01/03/2012 11:24

Morning all, I am going to try and get my blood done this morning after the path lab messed up the last lot and then I have to spend the rest of the day in uni :(
I was looking at my midwife notes and noticed that the midwife has filled in the growth chart wrong. This means that she has put bean on the 95 centile whereas if it is corrected he is actually just below 50! Do you think I should correct it myself and point it out to her next time? It could look alarming if next time she measures it looks like he has dropped all those centiles. Trivial I know but it keeps popping into my head and I won't see her again until 35 weeks.

fishcakefoxtrot · 01/03/2012 12:57

That sounds a bit strange wants. Could you maybe make a note of it beside it to query at the next appointment? Is it based on your fundal height measurement? I definitely understand that you don't want an apparent drop to start ringing the alarm bells!

Thank you to Pomme and Hawthers for the lovely birth stories and to Scream for sharing the good news about your friend's baby. It is very encouraging to hear these things!

My positive c-section story is from a friend at toddler group. The positive part is the uneventfulness of it, really, and of course her gorgeous baby Smile She had a difficult delivery last time round so had an elective section this time. She said everything went fine, the pain was really very manageable, she was home within 48 hours and at toddler group (with her dh) a week later! I am mostly worried about the recovery and the effect this will have on DD (and the forthcoming mega move, which I am currently approaching in the same way Biscuits views OBEM) so I found this very encouraging. I'm sure she's not running about in the park or anything but just being up and functioning pretty quickly will be good enough for me.

Congrats Evilwater, hope the sickness eases up soon.

popcorn glad you managed to put your friend off. Hopefully her DD will be better soon and you can all enjoy the visit.

Aww Biscuits I think you must just be a very sympathetic person who is clearly sharing your DH's pain Grin I think you can get temporary filling kits from the chemist/ Boots if he can't get to see a dentist today. I have the hygenist (sp?) later. I hope she is feeling gentle...

Biscuitsandtea · 01/03/2012 13:30

You'll all be glad to hear that dh's tooth is fixed, so I can eat again GrinHmm. No doubt he'll spend the afternoon dribbling and not being able to talk properly Grin

Welcome Evilwater and congratulations! Those early days are stressful but hopefully the ginger biscuits will continue to work their magic. Do help yourself to a glittery vom bucket though, just in case!

It's so lovely to see all the newbies coming through. Am still brooking for a rush of BFPs to be coming through though.

MW was all fine. Next appt not until 39 weeks so am keeping everything crossed I won't be back for that one! Had DS but no DH with me today so the poor mw had to pretty much do everything with DS's nose about 2 inches from what she was doing as he was being nosey interested! And as I'd told him what they'd do in the appt he kept saying 'are they going to put a needle in? Are they?' Still, he was good overall Confused.

Wants I think if it was me, I'd put a post it on the page so that I hasn't changed it myself but anyone who looks at that page (be it the mw or someone else in the meantime) will see it? It's so important o check your notes isn't it to make sure they get everything right! I spotted a micro error in mine today (which I will probably just change as it's just the date / how many weeks I am).

Incidentally on the topic of the Korea, do you think 'PP to brim' would mean how much engaged I am? She's put 4/5 in today so I'm thinking maybe that's what it means?

Lovely to hear the good news about your friend Scream - what a relief that must be for them. And your friend's nice CS story Fishcake Smile

I've forgotten everything else Confused
