hope this doesn't steal pomme 's birth story thunder

belatedly hawthers birth story:

My edd was 22 Dec (thurs) and there was no sign of anything happening. I was very keen for a vbac but had an elcs date booked in for the 28th due to bank holidays over christmas. Managed to get a sweep done at 40+1 as wanted to try everything to get things moving but all was so closed up and unfavourable it wasn't even possible to have it done. Had been having loads of bh but they ramped up on boxing day to be very regular, every 5 mins but painless. Overnight they eased off but came back again the following day, still coming regularly but with no pain. Same thing happened overnight so went in for the elcs still hoping that the bh would develop into something painful. We were third on the list so we waited in triage around lots of other ladies in early labour. Still nothing happening apart from regular painless tightenings.

Whilst waiting for our turn on the list, another lady's contractions ramped up and she was (understandably) quite vocal about it. DH said she's not having it now is she? I replied no they'll move her into her own room before she gets to that point.... when we heard all the mws gathering and coaching her through pushing followed by the squeal of a newborn!

we were debating whether to wait and see if i would go into actual labour or go ahead with the cs. eventually we decided to just go ahead with the cs on the basis that we couldn't regret it whereas we might if we waited given our placental issues. the actual cs was very smooth and very different to our first cs although i was terrified that they had it wrong and there would be a problem so much so i was shaking like a leaf and dh had to coach me into being calmer. f was delivered very smoothly and he squealed straight away (i cried with relief). he was taken to the side and cleaned up and DH held him straight away. he was one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen.

and that is it really - straight to recovery where i held f and he latched on straight away. stayed there for a few hours and then got transferred to the postnatal ward.

top elcs tips - find out where you are on the list - we were third and didn't get done until the afternoon. other than that i can't think of anything but let me know if anyone has any questions.

and to fiinish off the epic post young farley is now gaining lots of weight and chubbing up well.

PopcornMouseInBoots · 28/02/2012 15:08

Hawthers that sounds lovely

They didn't seriously make the other woman give birth in the same room as you, did they? Childbirth's undignified enough as it is, without an audience Shock (not that I would know, I hasten to add - but it sounds like it is!)
Glad Farley is chubbing up at last :)

My vivid dreams are continuing apace, but last night's was a vast improvement on being eaten by zombies - I had a lovely dream about BFing my baby (in a Harvester, not sure what that was about Hmm ) but I woke up feeling all teary and happy Blush :)

Biscuitsandtea · 28/02/2012 15:12

What a lovely (and heartwarmingly straightforward Smile) birth story Hawthers. And am so so pleased that F is chubbing up nicely. That must be a relief!

DreamingOfPeace · 28/02/2012 15:18

Ooh, that sounds like a good birth overall hawthers, thank you for telling us :-)

congratulations far, hurray, lurk away for a bit longer by all means, while picking out your glittery vom bucket! brown discharge, meh, nothing to it, we're all brooking no argument about that! Be lovely to see you over here ASAP Grin I'm hoping to get to 38 weeks too- well, 37+6 (when i have ELCS booked) but am so big and uncomfortable now...

Biscuitsandtea · 28/02/2012 15:21

Dreaming remind me how many more weeks it is until your CS Date? How many weeks are you now?

DreamingOfPeace · 28/02/2012 15:28

32+ 5, 5 weeks tomorrow til CS... A loooong time probably good as no hospital bag packed, buggy bits for newborns sorted etc

hawthers · 28/02/2012 15:36

just to clarify that she wasn't made to give birth in the same room but i gather overheard that she went very quickly from not being close to pushing a baby out. all in all i think it was 5 mins from her contractions becoming audibly stronger to the birth! definitely caught the mws on the hop

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 28/02/2012 16:36

Ooooo thanks for the birth story Hawthers it all sounds reassuringly straightforward! It sounds like that other woman had a slightly more eventful birth story to tell, but personally I'd rather a quiet straightforward birth!

Also, yay for Little F starting to chub out! Well done to you for working so hard at the bfing! I'm in awe!

How are you and the lovely Abigail doing today Pomme? I hope all is well! Enjoy the newborn snuggles! When will you be able to head home, and has DD1 met the new arrival today?

It's lovely to see Bartlet in here - how have you been?

We're also keeping a spot warm for Farfalla who I'm sure will be along shortly (us No Brookers laugh in the face of brown discharge! This is a No Brooking bean and will be sticking for the full 9 months!)

I packed my hospital bag yesterday, and most of the baby's bag as well :) Once DH has finally got around to washing the newborn clothing I'll be able to squish those in and we'll be good to go! Not that I want anything to happen this early! (Only 31 weeks at the mo and no hospital agreement on the cs!) It makes me feel a little less panicky about the birth to have the bag packed though. I also found a Natal Hypnotherapy CD specifically for c sections (by the same company that does the hypno CDs recommended to me by you lovely ladies), so I have that bookmarked on Amazon and ready to order as soon as I get the consultant to sign off on a cs!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 28/02/2012 20:40

Hawthers, that's such a great birthing story! I shall follow your advice and find out where I am on the list for CS. Yay for Farley chubbing up! You must feel so relieved.

Scream, I haven't packed my bag yet - must get on with it!

Bartlet, Farfalla and Generic, lovely to hear from you all - hope you're all doing well. Congratulations, Farfalla!

Popcorn, Grin at the weird dreams. I had a dream the other night that involved evil dancing skeletons Confused.

pommedechocolat · 28/02/2012 21:02

All still good here opted to go home this pm as we are fine and I was missing dd1 a lot! Bf going well compared to dd1 a total dream!

Thanks for starting birth stories hawthers will do mine soon.

scarletfingernail · 28/02/2012 21:38

Great birth story Hawthers thanks for sharing.

How lovely you're home already pomme. I'm delighted to hear you're both doing so well and Abigail has taken to BFing already.

How's it going today Biscuits has Crumb been more wriggly?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 28/02/2012 22:35

Oh my god, I just killed a mouse with the frying pan! The horrible little bugger was hiding behind the pan when I picked it up, and I just smacked it one. I think I'm in shock.

OP posts:
TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 28/02/2012 22:37

Pomme, being home already must be great! What did DD1 think of her new sister? Yay for bf going brilliantly!

OP posts:
PurpleWithaBlueBun · 28/02/2012 22:55

PMSL Too that just cracked me right up!

Glad bf is going well, I can't wait to do all the skin to skin with my new baby!

I have another 'bargain' if it is your cup of tea? This sugarjack bag down from £288 to £100! with this code; gurgle1
I love pink and I am seriously twitching over this 'bargain'! Must be my hormones...

Scream maybe treat yourself to the relaxation in pg cd? Is it Jen that has been using this one? I wish I had got that one sooner as I feel like a dork trying to relax to the birthing one and could have done with a few months practise just for that!

Thanks for your story Hawthers and it is so heartwarming how many brookers have turned up just to cheer pomme on, real community spirit!

DreamingOfPeace · 28/02/2012 23:03

Oh, I'm.thinking of pomme having got home for cuddles with dd1 and now and all night with Abigail. Lovely. Well done you, bf pro too :-)

too, fantastic reaction time. I'm more awed at that!! And what are you meant to do? Invite it in and offer it free run of your kitchen?! Good pan action.

Got an offer of a second hand but apparently immaculate maxi cosi seat plus base, from a friend of a friend so definitely not been in a crash for £60. Winner!!! Too sore to sleep... Less good. Bloody ribs. I will last 5 more weeks won't I?! Mentally as well as physically, I'm sick of the weight and pains and reflux... And panic over whether I'm doing the right thing with ELCS- reading about pommes fab second birth. Will await her full birth story but.... maybe I should be induced again?!

DreamingOfPeace · 28/02/2012 23:04

I know, all the brookets arriving, and Abigail arriving made me a little weepy before...

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 28/02/2012 23:08

Dream if your wibbling why don't you go for a trial of labour? Feel one contraction and order your CS... Wink
And of course you can last 5 weeks, the last 5 weeks of ever being pregnant for you! Maybe you should keep a diary to keep future broodiness at bay?

Take your ranitidine and some paracetamol and try and rest :)

pommedechocolat · 29/02/2012 02:53

I would also like to thank all the brookers for their congrats it has made Abbie and I feel very special :)

I think you're right purple - we have created a little community here. From the original ttc thread to all the births the experience of being pg with dd2 would not have been the same without it.

It definitely would not have been the same without the vision of a pg too with a frying pan and a mouse :) !!

hawthers · 29/02/2012 05:37

Hey pomme good to see you on the night shift

jaggythistle · 29/02/2012 06:59

Grin at the 'nice pan action too!

Glad to hear wee Abigail is doing well and bfing going well pomme. :)

Thanks for birth story hawthers yay for wee F getting chubby/. :)

It was me with the pg relaxation Natal Hypnotherapy purple and scream, it has def helped me feel more positive/relaxed and helped sleep a bit. Have now listened to the birth prep one 1.5 times so far. The first time DH thought I'd fallen asleep and turned it off Hmm and the second time I slept through most of it!

Eek scream I have done bugger all for hospital bag. I have a big list in my head of things to do/buy and am driving me nuts. DH is way too chilled out and doesn't seem bothered that we have done nothing yet!

I have also had the mental dreams recently popcorn - mine seem to keep featuring my workmates for some reason? I dreamt that my friend and I were both in labour at the same time and I was in the huff, because she was having her baby and I was way behind.

32wk MW appointment today. I am so proud that I remembered my wee sample even though I start work at 6am this week. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Brooking no argument big time farfalla :)

fishcakefoxtrot · 29/02/2012 10:37

Hooray for pomme being home and hawthers little f becoming chubby f Grin

Could I please request some brooking in my general direction? Am sitting waiting for my growth scan and would like to some to see some good movement along the curve please!

Also dream no queue jumping please- am sure you are booked in a whole day after me Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 29/02/2012 10:47
ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 29/02/2012 11:20

Too good work! I'd probably have tried the same thing as you and either I would have been too slow or my aim would have been off, so I'd have missed the mouse and still wrecked my pan! Clearly you have retained your rat smacking skills! Wink

Glad to hear Biscuits' UBB is more wriggly now. Keep it up LO!

I hope little Abbie didn't keep the Pomme household up too much last night. How has your first morning at home as a family of four been?

Having an unnecessary little freakout about my cs request over here. Spoke to the consultant's secretary this morning to confirm my letter got through, and she said it's on his desk but he's only in the hospital on Thurs afternoons and he's fully booked for appointments tomorrow. So a note's been left for him to call me but I very much doubt he'll have time. He's so booked up I'm not sure how to get to speak him, if I end up having to book a normal appt with him it'll be weeks away and physically going into hospital is really hard for me because my leg's not doing so great at the mo. I just wish there was a way to get him on the phone for 10 minutes! I'm not under consultant-led care so getting consultant time is hard!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 29/02/2012 11:22

Oooh, Purple, I love that Sugarjack bag! Can I justify £100? It's more than I have ever spent on a handbag, but it's such a bargain!

Yay for Crumb wriggling lots, Biscuits!

Fishcake, lots of No Brooking coming your way for a nice little growth spurt. Good luck!

Jaggy, hope the MW appt goes well. You have just reminded me that I was supposed to drop a pee sample in to the surgery yesterday and I totally forgot about it, and DH won't be home til after 6 today so I can't do it today either. Oops.

Dream, excellent scoring of bargains there with the MaxiCosi. Good work! Hope you got some decent sleep.

Pomme, I love the No Brooking community idea! It's like the Blitz spirit.

I think my mouse smacking antics are entirely in the spirit of a thread which was sparked off by the rat-smacketers!

OP posts:
pommedechocolat · 29/02/2012 11:37

Lots of brooking for fishcake! Let us know :)

Also very quietly brooking for farfalla and procuring stickers for her glitter bucket from dd1 - maybe ben and holly ones this time?

Abbie was so good last night - we went to bed just gone half nine she was up at midnight briefly and two till three and a quarter ish then she slept till seven! Probably the deceptive first few days but I'll take it anyway! The thing about her bf well is that my nipples hurt (never happened with dd1 so new to me). Have Lansinoh so hopefully will ease soon.
