hope this doesn't steal pomme 's birth story thunder
belatedly hawthers birth story:
My edd was 22 Dec (thurs) and there was no sign of anything happening. I was very keen for a vbac but had an elcs date booked in for the 28th due to bank holidays over christmas. Managed to get a sweep done at 40+1 as wanted to try everything to get things moving but all was so closed up and unfavourable it wasn't even possible to have it done. Had been having loads of bh but they ramped up on boxing day to be very regular, every 5 mins but painless. Overnight they eased off but came back again the following day, still coming regularly but with no pain. Same thing happened overnight so went in for the elcs still hoping that the bh would develop into something painful. We were third on the list so we waited in triage around lots of other ladies in early labour. Still nothing happening apart from regular painless tightenings.
Whilst waiting for our turn on the list, another lady's contractions ramped up and she was (understandably) quite vocal about it. DH said she's not having it now is she? I replied no they'll move her into her own room before she gets to that point.... when we heard all the mws gathering and coaching her through pushing followed by the squeal of a newborn!
we were debating whether to wait and see if i would go into actual labour or go ahead with the cs. eventually we decided to just go ahead with the cs on the basis that we couldn't regret it whereas we might if we waited given our placental issues. the actual cs was very smooth and very different to our first cs although i was terrified that they had it wrong and there would be a problem so much so i was shaking like a leaf and dh had to coach me into being calmer. f was delivered very smoothly and he squealed straight away (i cried with relief). he was taken to the side and cleaned up and DH held him straight away. he was one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen.
and that is it really - straight to recovery where i held f and he latched on straight away. stayed there for a few hours and then got transferred to the postnatal ward.
top elcs tips - find out where you are on the list - we were third and didn't get done until the afternoon. other than that i can't think of anything but let me know if anyone has any questions.
and to fiinish off the epic post young farley is now gaining lots of weight and chubbing up well.
