I was wondering if any of you ladies have ever bought a maternity cushion or have any suggestions. Would a normal cushion do?

I was thinking of buying one because I'm starting to find it hard to get comfortable in bed. Also when I've been sat for a while the bottom of my back seems to go quite stiff.

Normal cushion, sleep body pillow, support pillow?

Please help.

LilacBump · 14/01/2006 07:44

i still slept for the last 4.5 years with the cushion i used when pregnant with DD! i can't sleep without it! i always sleep on my side and it has to be tucked under my knee or on the side of my tummy. it's just a normal plain cushion with a cover on it (which i lovingly made in school when i was 12 i must add!). i have looked in catalogues at maternity ones, but so far a normal one has been fine.

Waswondering - hope you had a lovely holiday

Dana - I hope that the test results were OK.

slinkstah - fantastic news about the hb I've only had the one birth so far, which was a c/s, but I'm still hoping that the mw will be OK.

bubbly1973 - nothing in my notes about a test for chicken pox, just rubella. Hope you get that sorted.

vbab78 - I've got a cushion from bumpto3.com which I bought when pg with ds. It's a full length one, and is so comfortable! It was also great for lying ds on whilst bf (esp helpful with c/s scar).

Hope everyone else is well I had to get a prescription from the MW this morning, so they checked the heart beat whilst I was there which was lovely.

vbab78
i am just useing a normal pillow between my legs and under my tummy while laying on my side.(i dont remember not been able to slee on my stomach this early last pg). last pg i had a v shaped pillow and found it great. it was also good for suporting baby while breat feeding. But a normal pillow or two is good.

vbab78 · 14/01/2006 22:59

Thanks for the pillow advice everyone. I think I will try a normal pillow and see how I go.

KathrynWales · 15/01/2006 00:22

Hi everyone

I am 17 wks + 4 and due 21st June. So far I have put on 11lbs, and have also put on 4 inches to both waist and chest. I have felt my baby move this week and feel like the size of a small continent! I have a 14 yr old daughter so can't remember too much of my last pregnancy, but I remember putting on loads of weight which took 2 years to come off again!
had my triple blood test last week (as am 35) but am not sure whether they contact you with result, or if you have to phone GP? Am not due to see midwife again until week 21...
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like it seems ages away until June, and yet I feel very pregnant already?

thank you everyone for your advice, dh has them now!!!

tomorrow i am insisting on having another blood test done via GP and insist i see the results for myself, im quite annoyed that the antenatal clinic in the hospital where i had the scan fobbed me off!

waswondering, its really good that they tested you for immunity even though you knew you had them, i want to know for sure too and in that way i wont be paranoid like i am now

vbab78 · 15/01/2006 20:47

Wish me luck ladies.. i'm going for my 20 week scan and checkup tomorrow morning.

Feeling excited to see baby but very anxious with this being the scan where they check everything.

I had a terible nights sleep last night, I think it must be playing on my mind.

Silly first time mum worries!

Laura032004 · 15/01/2006 21:14

Hello and welcome KathrynWales I'm sure if there are any probs with the test they will contact you. Otherwise they'll probably let you know by letter, or at your next GP/MW appt. I know what you mean about June being ages away. The first bit seemed to fly by (build up to xmas?), but now it just seems to be going quite slowly. Enjoy your sleep whilst you can though!

bubbly1973 - poor DH I had them at 18, and had a terrible time (caught them from my little sis who was at primary school). You'll have to be dabbing both of them with the calamine!

vbab78 - good luck for your scan tomorrow I'm sure it will all be fine! Did you have a 12 week scan? They check a lot of things then as well, so not too much to worry about. Just enjoy the moment. Not silly worries though - everybody has them - I kept dreaming ds would be born with his legs not attached to his body, but they still put them in this cot with him!

Hello Kathryn Wales, Just popped over from the 'due in July' thread to say 'hello'
Saw your name and thought it was probably you, but then read your post and knew it definitely was - welcome to mumsnet

bubbly1973 · 15/01/2006 21:49

laura, im sorry, i read your post and nearly wet myself reading about your dream
when having my ds i dreamt that i was pushing the pushchair along and it was my husband in the pushchair with just a nappy on and i was trying to squeeze him in there but his legs kept dangling out!...huh?

kathrynwales welcome and congrats on your pregnancy, im also from wales (i am assuming you are from your name!!)

vbab, when i had my scan last week i was worried too, its natural, but try not to worry too much and enjoy the moment, thats what i kept telling myself, worrying wont change whats going to happen so enjoy the moment....well that was my theory to try to help me relax...it didnt work, i still worried! ..(but not as much)

i rememember when having ds i wanted the pregnancy to go fast, then a few years later i wished that i hadnt wished that and that i enjoyed every single moment...thats why in this pregnancy since its my very last, im in no hurry to have it go fast at this stage, im enjoying the bond between just the two of us before i have to share him/her with the world!!...i did want the first 3months to go fast though

has anyone else got heartburn? im on the gaviscon, its the best thing invented!!!...(unless you pick up the wrong bottle...)
i nearly drank calamine lotion instead of gaviscon!!! the bottles and the liqiud inside look the same!!

abbey1515 · 15/01/2006 22:19

Hi Bubbly-I have heartburn all the time- especially at night. I've found that being slightly propped up whilst sleeping helps a little...
DH bought me hundreds of pregnancy magazines this weekend- I keep seeing things that I didn't know and its very scary, like not lying on your back at 24 weeks- I wouldn't have known about that!Have a friend who seems to know everything- she told me I shouldn't eat fennel- how do these people know so much?!

bubbly1973 · 16/01/2006 09:11

i read somewhere its best to lie on your left hand side, cant remember where i read that when i was having ds, but have done the same on this pregnancy

i didnt know about the fennel either

i got appt with docs this morning so will kick ass! actually dh has one too and so does ds! a family outing!

i cant believe they will want dh coming in with chicken pox!! i will have to make sure he stays away from any child bearing women! i would be very cross if i was in surgery and someone sat next to me knowing they had chicken pox and now i know who to blame..the surgery!

ladyschaefer · 16/01/2006 10:30

hello and welcome to all the new ladies on the thread, i havent posted in a while due to my horrendous morning sickness. I cant quite believe it but finally at 19 weeks it seems to have gone. I weighed myself yesterday to find that id only put on 2lb.

Baby is kicking about nicely, got my next scan a week thursday looking forward to that, although i think we all worry a little bit.

Hope everyone is doing ok and Dana hope your mum is ok too.

vbab78 · 16/01/2006 13:03

Thank you SO SO MUCH everyone for all your support.

Everything could not have gone better at my 20 week scan. Found out that Baby's legs are above average length for their age. Must take after dad who is 6ft 4 I'm 5ft 4.

Baby was moving a lot, as a result the pictures are a little blurry. It was amazing just seeing all the little parts of their body. All my blood tests are fine too.

We didn't find out the sex because we didn't want to know but apparently baby had their legs crossed anyway.

No need for all that worry!

BABY2 · 16/01/2006 13:38

Hello kathrynwales- congratulations
just got back from my first scan, they have confirmed my due date for 13th june. that makes me 19 weeks, i also found out i was having a boy, i was hoping for a girl as i already ds and would lik a girl as well, looks like this wont be my last pg now!!!!

bubbly1973 · 16/01/2006 14:18

vbab, baby2, glad to see your scans went well,

vbab, i didnt want to know the sex either, will be a nice surprise for us after all that pushing!!

baby2, are you going to keep trying till you get a girl?

been to the doctors, who confirmed that i am immune after making a call the the hospital, apparently what the hospital had done is use the serum from when i first gave bloods at beginning of pregnancy rather than start from scratch with fresh bloods that they took last week, and pathologist said im immune, so phew!

dh has it bad, covered in them ewwww not a nice sight!

ladyschaefer glad to see your morning sickness has finally gone, good luck next week with the scan, will you be wanting to knw the sex of the baby?

dana, hope the news was good on friday

lilsbabies · 16/01/2006 14:23

mrsbabookaloo · 16/01/2006 19:24

Hello and welcome lilsbabies and kathrynwales. Bubbly 1973, I've got terrible heartburn: i mentioned on the thread a while back that I felt like I had something caught in my throat; I've now figured out that's heartburn. Never had it before. It's horrible, and I also get a burning feeling lower down in my oesophagus and tummy pains which could be hunger or indigestion! I think I need to change my eating habits, but I'm just so happy to be eating again after feeling so sick for so long. I've bought some gaviscon tablets today..see how I get on with those.
Ladyschaefer, glad to hear your morning sickness has gone away; it's so horrible. Mine went at about 17 weeks.
My 20 week scan is on Thurs; more excited than nervous, but aware that all might not be well. Today I tried on some gorgeous maternity trousers for work in Formes that were 120 pounds!! Didn't buy them though...bought a pair in Dotty P's that cost me...wait for it...7 pounds!!

bubbly1973 · 16/01/2006 19:54

mrsbabookaloo what a bargain!! were they on sale, perhaps i should pop down to dorothy perkins

also, i never knew what heartburn was until getting pregnant, im so stingy though, i wont buy when i can get it on prescription for free, if the tablets dont work then next time you see the doctor ask for a prescription for the gaviscon liquad, it is INSTANT relief, and i get it really really bad, its a miracle that one sip and its gone after taking it

BABY2 · 16/01/2006 20:11

hello lilsbabies, congratulations, your due date is the same as what my scan confirmed my pg for today, my date was 13th so they are leaving it there though.

bubly1973- was sure this one was a girl as i have felt totaly diferent to 1st pg with ds, i will have to see how i cope with 2 and take it from there !!!!!

diddle · 17/01/2006 07:57

welcome to all the newbies and congratulations.

feeling knackered today, seem to be having problems getting to sleep at night, then feeling exhausted in the morning. Keep turning onto my tummy in the night and waking myself up because its obviously very tricky and painful, poor baby.

no heartburn yet, got that to look forward to i guess.

vbab78 · 17/01/2006 08:32

Diddle I've been feeling exactly the same for the last 4 or 5 days.

I thought it was because I was worried about my 20 week scan (had it yesterday). As everything was perfect I expected an amazing night's sleep and feeling refreshed in the morning, couldn't be more wrong . Must be something on my mind, not got a clue what though.

Going to try having a nice bath before bed to see if it helps. I don't know how I'm going to get through work today.

My thoughts are with you.

vbab78 · 17/01/2006 12:19
