aww vbab - i'm surprised they'd want to be away so near to the date, especially as anything could happen, and it could come early.
Don't let it stress you out though, your main concern is you and the baby.

thin that how you are feeling is very normal vbab. I m preg for first time too and although I've looked after a lot of babies I do worry about being a parent. I know that I can look after "a baby" IYSWIM but I'm scared about looking after "my baby" and it being my responsibility forever and ever!

Hi everyone,

Sorry to gatecrash; hope no-one minds. Have only just found MN and wish I'd come across it much earlier! I'm due on 5th June with my first baby (which according to everyone who delights in commenting [esp. MIL], will be the size of a tank). I'm 22, DP 43 Shock. Just wanted to join in the chat really instead of lurking!

While I'm at it, has anyone got any tips for dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome? I've been fit and well for the whole pregnancy but now suffering quite badly and being woken by it at least 6-8 times a night. I did ask the midwife again this week but all she could come up with was suggesting that I see the doctor, who would then refer me to a physio and then maybe I could get a splint. Apparently the referral is likely to take longer than the 5 weeks I have left, so it doesn't seem worth doing! I read somewhere that I could try sleeping with socks over my hands (!) but if there's a less strange option (picture of whale-like me in awful pyjamas with added indignity of besocked hands is not appealing), I'd love to know.

As for the question of enjoying pregnancy - I'm sure it's perfectly normal to be either way inclined. Personally I can't wait to have my body back, and even if we had been planning more kids I might be reconsidering now. Really haven't enjoyed it at all; combine this with being very excited about meeting DD and I really am getting impatient. DP also over-excited but insists on patting my tummy every time he talks about the baby. Irksome to say the least Angry!

Welcome elizabuff.

THANK YOU everyone for being so understanding about my rant. Sure helps knowing that you guys are out there.

I'm feeling quite good at the moment, had a lovely long walk this afternoon with DH then slept for 3 hours when I got home Smile! Then when DH woke me up he had cooked dinner Shock.

Earlier in the day I was slightly worried because baby wasn't moving much and not like normal. Only made worse by me being a silly first timer who convinced myself that baby may come early because I had been for a long walk! My baby monitor put my mind at rest though when I heard baby's heartbeat as strong as ever Grin.

Night, night and once again thank you.
