Diddle, poor you, that sounds really horrible! Did you want to know the sex? Have mine on Tuesday. My hospital seem good, but after my 12 week appt they gave me my notes/ birth plan etc to bring home and when I opened it later I found someone else's test results and notes sellotaped to mine! So not sure now!

BABY2 · 20/01/2006 13:22

didlle- sorry to hear about the bad time you had when having your scan. the scan i had on monday was ok i was only in for about 5 mins but she did show me baby while taking the mesurments, it was what happened b4 the scan that anoyed me. My appointment was for 9.00am and i didnt get seen for scan till 11.05am!!!!!!! When i went in the woman who did the scan said she didnt start work till 10.00am and the hospital book her appointments from 8.30 am.!!!!!! and then after the scan i didnt even speek to the doctor or a midwife like it said on my appointment letter, needles to say ds annoyed a few people in the waiting room and staff.

mrsbabookaloo · 20/01/2006 13:45

Hi all, I had my scan yesterday too! All was well and it's a girl! I am amazed... i was utterly convinced it was a boy. But v happy either way.
Diddle, sorry yours was so bad: I was a bit unsatisfied with mine - a bit brief, and i couldn't really see the screen, but at least she told us the sex!
Sarah'sbump - so sorry about you and dp. Hope you're feeling OK.
Lilacbump - glad you're feeling better.

Dana · 20/01/2006 13:48

nic33, congratulations on a good scan and great that you're having a boy like you wanted. Seems like there is going to be a lot of boys born in June.

Diddle, sorry you had a bad experience and didn't get to know the sex (if that's what you had wanted), but good that everything looked fine.

Thank you all for thinking about me and my mum. After a long wait and a lot of unclear messages from different doctors, my mum finally got her results yesterday. Unfortunately it wasn't the good news we had been hoping for. It seems the primary cancer is in the bowel and has spread to the liver (which we knew about), but also to the bones and lungs. She will have chemo treatments to stop the cancer from spreading further and possible make her life longer and more comfortable, but they can't cure it . I am feeling pretty numb at the moment and find it hard to concentrate at work as I haven't slept to well lately and my mind keeps drifting...
Sorry to be so depressing on a Friday afternoon, but since you have all been asking, I thought I would give you an update.

nic33 · 20/01/2006 14:01

Dana, so sorry to hear your news. I'm not surprised you can't concentrate at work. Just try and get through the day and be nice to yourself.

Best wishes to both you and your Mum. I hope the new little one is giving you both something positive and good to think about too.

BABY2 · 20/01/2006 14:05

mrsbaboookaloo-gald your scan went ok too, i was convinced i was having a girl but i'm having a boy, just shows how wrong we can be.(only 50 50 chance of been wrong!!)

BABY2 · 20/01/2006 14:07

lilsbabies · 20/01/2006 14:17

Hello all,

Dana - Congrats on the news of Baby Boy. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum, I think that you must be a wonderful person to be able to help her through this tough time! I have also had some bad news recently. I learnt that my Grandad had past away Weds afternoon, I can't seem to stop crying! I just hope that this does not last for much longer as it's not helping with the pregnancy! Well I hope things soon start to look up?

Diddle - I'm really sorry to hear that you had such an awful experience with your scan. It makes me so angry! it's supposed to be such a special occasion for the parents & it should never be rushed even if they are running behind! It would make me think that perhaps they might have missed something! I should complain to your Midwife as that's just not right at all!!!!!!

Nic33 - Congratulations on finding out it's a Boy! I hope everything goes well for you & baby?

Mrsbabookaloo - Congratulations on finding out it's a Girl! I think I'm also having a Girl? Will find out on Monday.

Please look after yourselves!

Love,

Lil x

homemama · 20/01/2006 14:22

Dana, so sorry the news about your mum wasn't what you'd hoped for. I have been lurking back and forth since you mentioned it. There is always hope and I'm sure the thought of the baby is giving her strength. It is perhaps good that you are now at home and no longer in Scotland.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care x

homemama · 20/01/2006 14:26

Lilsbabies, I know I don't know you but I read your post after posting to Dana and I couldn't leave without saying sorry for your loss.

KathrynWales · 20/01/2006 14:38

Thanks, Abbey 1515.. was a big relief!

have got a big cheesy grin today because have had my letter to say I am low risk for Downs (despite being a crumbly 35 yrs old)

Babs is back to kicking again .I think he kept quiet for those few frantic days just to prove a point. (attention seeker at 18 wks. Think I will have to watch this one... )

Have my 20 wk scan soon so was a bit disappointed to read you've had some rush jobs. The 12 wk one was bad enough. Felt like they were scanning me on the checkout at Tesco...
"Hello kathryn..Beep Beep.EVerything's fine. Thanks, Goodbye.."

Think i will have to pretend I am a bit simple when i go, so the sonographer has to talk really slowly to me...

Off to do my shopping in unfashionable tracksuit that makes my bum look as pregnant as my tummy.

Must make decision not to buy Heat magazine as it will have photos of Angelina Jolie looking svelte and toned with neat bump, on arm of Brad Pitt, despite her expecting her baby the same time as me. (Think she can't be human) (either that, or I eat too many pies)

x

LilacBump · 20/01/2006 18:45

dana, i am so sorry to hear the bad news about your mum {{hug}} it must be so hard to focus on your pregnancy with this happening. do take care.

lilsbabies, i am sorry to hear of your loss. i wish you and your family lots of strength {{hug}}

mrsbabookaloo! how great that you're having a girl! have you got any names picked?

nic33, congrats on having a boy! how lovely!

i had a bit of scare today. the baby hadn't moved for over 12 hours. i rang up the midwife emergency number and this lovely midwife rang back telling me she'd book me in straight away into the hospital to be seen, but by then (a 10 minute wait for the phonecall from her) the baby had suddenly started kicking a lot again. phew! and it has been kicking more during the day, so nothing to worry about now. i was absolutely terrified though and am glad it was probably just asleep

i got good news from the doctor! no sign of infection on my latest sample, so it's finally gone!

we're now just counting down until friday when we have our detailed scan. i really can't wait.

has anyone taken their other child/ren to the scans? we took DD last time and she loved it so much. she's so looking forward to her sister (she's so convinced it's a girl) coming out of my tummy. she talks to it all the time and hugs my tummy more than the rest of me.

BABY2 · 20/01/2006 20:51

Lilacbump- took ds (2) to 20 week scan, he wasnt realy bothered and kept trying to get to me to pull my top back down and kept saying "all done"
And he realy didnt enjoy the 2 hour waite for our appointment. I have told him there is a baby in my tummy that he will see soon but he dosn't understand. sometimes he comes and hugs my tummy and gives it kisses and other times if i show him my "bump" he trys to pull my top back down and says "bye, see you soon" I think he will be wanting this baby to go back.

abbey1515 · 21/01/2006 21:35

Dana, am so sorry to hear about your mum, it's very hard to know what to say.Take good care of yourself.Thinking of you both xxx

bubbly1973 · 22/01/2006 20:28

dana, sorry to hear such bad news, i dont know what to say that would help, but just wanted you to know im thinking of you and when you need to let rip on here, do so

lilsbabies, only time will heal the pain you are going through now, im sorry to hear of your loss, especially whilst your pregnant it will be twice as hard to go through

kathrynwales, which hospital do you go to, i have to say that when i went for my scan they were very good, apart from running behind a little, they took about 20mins, then she showed me all the parts of the baby and printed off 3 pictures,
so if you are going to the Royal glam it should be fine

i took my ds with me and he was good as gold, he even waved at the baby on the screen, so obviously he could make out what it was!! was very sweet

he is insisting that its a boy, we keep trying to explain that it could be a girl but he wont have none of it...if its a girl which i think it is i hope he will bond okay

diddle · 23/01/2006 07:49

Oh Dana - i am so sorry to hear about your mom, thats the last thing anybody needs but especially being hormonal and pregnant.
This is one of those times where there is no right thig to say, but i really hope you can spend as much time as you can with her, and make sure you look after yourself and baby

Bugs · 23/01/2006 10:25

Hello all
{{{{{{{dana))))))) oh sweetie what a bummer at such a special time my thoughts are with you.

Well we went for the 20wk scan fri & its.........a boy!!! dd & dh are over the moon. dd has said all along it's a boy atleast this time we have plenty of ideas for names. The scan was soooo clear it was amazing dd said "is it really truly alive in there mum?" i nearly wet myself laughing little monkey. I'm back for another scan on 11/05 (36wks) as they are worried i'm going to devolp pre-empclampisa again they warned me if any signs on next visit they might keep me in but i'm so happy everythings ok i 'm not to worried.

I've stepped down at work from being a manager to just doing parties once a week or so & oh boy has it helped. Morning sickness is still lurking but has eased off alot thank god.

I hope everyone else is ok & keeping well

D xx

abbey1515 · 23/01/2006 13:43

Bugs, congratulations! Fingers crossed re. the pre-eclampsia.

I have 20 week scan tomorrow, am excited and nervous at the same time- terible nightmares again!

Has anybody decided on prams etc? Spent all day Saturday in Mamas and papas and Daisy and Toms, and even more confused. I really want one that has a carrycot, so the pliko pramette is out, but the Ultima, the one I love, seems huge! I really like the Bugaboo Frog, but that has been discontinued, and I don't like the chameleon. Ideas?

vbab78 · 23/01/2006 13:48

I've been thinking about when I will finish work to start maternity leave, so that I can let my employer know.

I was thinking 2 weeks before due date (or maybe 1 week) assuming everything is ok, being that I work in an office and I am sat down all day.

Has anyone any opinion on when is the right time to finish?

vbab78 · 23/01/2006 13:55

Abbey - I really liked "proper" prams but they would not fit in my house that well and more importantly the boot of my ford fiesta.

I would recommend if you have a car checking that whatever you buy fits in the boot of your car.

I've bought a mama's and papa's from birth stroller after the shop let me try it in my car boot. Lots of room left after it went in.

It is also really light and it can be folded with one hand so the other hand is free to hold baby, if for example I am getting on a bus.

abbey1515 · 23/01/2006 14:31

Thanks, will go and give them a try. Have a Citroen C3, with quite big boot, so fingers crossed...

Maternity leave- I am going to try to finish start of May(1 month early) as I teach and am on my feet all the time- plus will have had enough of stroppy 14 year olds by then! I have a problem in that this year the school holiday is very long, from end of June to mid Sept and you can't say you are fit to come back in when its the middle of the holiday, so would lose pay through what would normally be a holiday anyway. So am going to try to go back for a couple of days in June.

diddle · 23/01/2006 15:34

Bugs - congratulations - a boy how lovely, now you will have one of each.
how annoying that you still have morning sickness.

abbey - yes we've decided on our travel system, we're going for the ultima, i love it, and we were considering the pramette but i want a nice pram, especially as this is our first. I've got a people carrier though so don't need to worry too much about boot space.

vbab - I'm thinking of stopping work 10 days before my due date. I am a childminder, and although its tiring, i know if i need to sit down i can. I am going to try and have more time off after baby is born, perhaps about 6 weeks off, as i'm self employed i can't afford to lose my business. Maternity leave has been a big decision for me, but hopefully it will all work out ok.
