oh poor you iwish poor both of you, something must be upsetting him. i hope you got some sleep x xx x did you try the swaddling? tyr rocking swinging?

lizandlulu · 25/10/2011 08:03

sorry just realised thats not very helpful Sad

Iwish · 25/10/2011 11:06

He finally went to sleep at 2:10. Up at 5:30 for a feed then fell asleep at 6:30 but was up at 7:00. He was absolutely wide awake! Ive just had 30 mins kip while he fell asleep.

Yeh he pulls his knees up sometimes But most of the time when he's crying he is stretching out and arching his back. I thought maybe it could be reflux. I have read a few things on the Internet and he has a few of the symptoms.
He's hungry now but refusing to eat, he's just dozing on my tummy. Hv is coming tomorrow so will ask her. Might try and see if I can get an appt at the docs tho.

Iwish · 25/10/2011 11:33

Got an emergancy appt at the doctors. Being the hormonal woman I am today I burst out crying when she said they had no appts so she offered me an emergancy one. Got to try and get dressed etc now lol.
I feel so sorry for my poor boy.

lizandlulu · 25/10/2011 12:45

how did you get on at the docs?

Iwish · 25/10/2011 13:37

Hey liz. Not been yet, I have to be there at 3:15.
Poor little man pulled his scratch mitts off last night and has scratched his face and it was bleeding.

How are you today?

lizandlulu · 25/10/2011 15:39

well ihope they give you advice for him, when its colic they usually pull their legs up, but it does sound like hes in pain if hes arching his back. violet sometimes flings hefself about when i am trying to feed her, i usually just put her down and she calms down, i think shes just trying to say 'leave me alone'
there must have been something in the air last night cause violet was up 3 times too

we have been to baby massage today, it was quite good, but the poor instructor woman must have felt bad as only 2 out of 6 people turned up! she is going to teach us a massage to help with colic, handy to know.

managed to get hte transfer and travel cot booking changed, so now everything is sorted, i just got to hope the owner is there to meet us and let us in! got to get up at 2 in the morning and fly at 6.30! not looking forward to that bit!

Iwish · 25/10/2011 18:03

Well I took him to the doctors and they said its colic and gave me infacol on prescription. let's hope it works because I'm running on empty today. Not even had time to eat until 10 mins ago.
He had a feed at 5:15 and a nappy change and now he's lay on his changing mat wriggling and hiccuping.

Oh I can't wait to go to baby massage, I have put our names down for it. Did Violet like it?

Hmmm yeh 2am start doesn't sound appealing lol! At least you have managed the cot out too.

lizandlulu · 25/10/2011 18:22

oh good i am glad they have done something, i hope it works for you and you have a better night.

re the baby massage, i cant say she was overjoyed about it but she didnt start to moan until she'd been laid there for about half an hour.

KLou111 · 25/10/2011 19:51

Oh god so sorry iwish poor little man :( infacol was great with Euan, but went to gripe water as soon as I could and seemed to work better, and now I hardly use it tbh.

That's a bloody cheek Liz you rented it first!! But glad you managed to change it.

Well, we have decided to start putting Euan to bed at 8. We started putting him to bed at 7 so we could have an evening, and eat etc, but we're going to do 8 with a hope he'll start getting longer in the night. He did 3 and 6.30 this morning after giving him a small sleepy feed at 11, then up for 10 mins at 3am. Then he had a proper feed at 6.30 and we got up at 9 and he was fast asleep!
I am prepared for the getting up twice rather than waking him at 10.30/11 as we said it may take a few weeks rather than straight away lol. Fingers crossed by holiday he's only up once between 8-8.

Rob just got down from feeding the little man and Bella was with him and wouldn't leave Euan bless her, he just had to practically drag her out the room.

lizandlulu · 25/10/2011 22:11

klou i tried to put violet to bed tonight at 7, she wanted a bottle and i though she might go to bed on that one rather than keep her up and try to give her more at 8, but she wouldnt settle and kept waiting (might also be something to do with the amount of niose there was as this family are satying for the night who were going on hol with, and they kept waking her up. but she did settle for about 7.45.

i am just going to go with the flow on hol and get her back onto her 8pm bedtime when we get back, thats the plan anyway.

so i am off now, will return on sunday night and tell you all about my adventures, pleaase keep your fingers crossed for me that it all turns out okSmile

KLou111 · 26/10/2011 09:49

Have a fab time Liz just started hailing here so am counting down to our hol now!!

Well kind of had a successful night. Think Euan going through a bit of a growth spurt again. Gave him an extra feed yesterday afternoon, then Rob fed him half his big feed at 6.15 waited a bit as he gets sick if we bath him straight away, bath at 7.15, then rest of bottle at 7.30. Euan went straight to sleep til 8.45 then I had to feed him again, then he wouldn't settle, and finally went off properly around 9.30. Woke at 3.20am, off at 3.30, then woke at 7.40 :)
Hopefully we're getting somewhere.

Iwish sorry to hear about the colic problem. Think we have the same here - I just feel so helpless that I can't stop her crying and ended up like you in tears. Sad

HV coming tomorrow so will speak to her to see if there is anything else we can try. A massage in the bath with a bit of baby oil in has helped the last couple of nights, but not for long: we were up until 1.30 this morning. We bought some infacol from Sainsbury's last night, I didn't know we could get it on prescription, but may end up going down that route. Really frustrating as she is still going 3 hour gaps between feeds during the day, its just the nights she has problems with.

KLou111 · 27/10/2011 14:39

Hi all.
Hope the colic ok iwish and madkatz and its nit getting you down too much.

All good here. Euans sleeping seems to be getting better, but he is still taking a while to settle. Last night however he had his last feed at 7.45 and asleep by 8.15, then woke til 9, asleep til 3.10, then up at 6.30 and wouldn't go back to sleep!!
Just spoke to hv about the settling thing at night and how I am worried Euan isn't getting enough food. He has a feed from me around 6.15pm, and comes off as though I haven't got enough. We bath him about 7.15, then Rob gives him ebm. Problem is I am worried the ebm is all fore milk as he is having around 6oz and STILL hungry it seems.
So I asked about if I could mix a bit of formula with it to 'fatten' it up a bit.
She said try dummy, swaddling then formula in that order. Already do dummy, he hates being swaddled, so am going to try a small bit of formula and mix it with my ebm tonight.
Didn't really want to start the formula route but if my milk isn't satisfying him what do I do???

OP posts:
KLou111 · 28/10/2011 10:00

Well, tried the formula. Took it no prob mixed with my milk. Settled soooo much easier at 7.45 as he was actually full. However.....awake crying at 1, settled in 5 mins, awake for feed at 3.10, back to sleep in 15 mins, awake at 5.30 wanting to be settled again, then 7.30 with a feed. Hoping the extra waking is only because his body is getting used to formula that he woke up so many times. Will try it for a week, if no better, think will revert back.
Off shopping for some new clothes for him in a bit, 0-3 all too small now, and some 3-6 too big so not got enough at the mo. And its an excuse to go shopping :)

MadKatz · 28/10/2011 11:22

Sophie has just thrown up.....over everything!! HmmGrin 1st load of washing on, thank god its sunny here to put it out on the line!

Klou interested to know if you use a certain bottle or teat. Want to start expressing so DH can have the opportunity to feed Sophie, but still want to be able BF as well and don't want to confuse her.

KLou111 · 28/10/2011 11:29

Oh no, poor Sophie. I use MAM self sterilising, anti colic bottles. Euan been on them since 2 weeks old due to his tongue. Never had a prob. Also using their dummies :) Does your milk pour like mine as medela breast shells are fab. Just sold my pump.
Nice here too, got the washing out too, got to make the most of it!

OP posts:
MadKatz · 28/10/2011 14:05

Am going to order some medela cups today as I often don't even realise I'm leaking as it doesn't always happen when I'm feeding her.

Iwish · 29/10/2011 15:01

Hi ladies!

Hope you are all well.

Hope you are enjoying your hols liz

How is Sophie madkatz? Is she still colicky?

How is Euan sleeping klou? And how long till your hols?

Hope you are ok gruff?

Joshua seems a bit better after we have started him on the infacol. Midwife also recomended fennel tea, aparently it settles the stomach so ive been drinking that too. She said it passes through the milk.
He has scratched all his face again too! I take his scratch mits off while I change his clothes then left them off for a hour and now he's scratched all down his cheek!! Not taking them off again.

MadKatz · 29/10/2011 20:45

Iwish yes Sophie is still Colicky but the Infacol is working well along with the nightly massage in the bath. The HV recommended Camomile Tea to me and said it did the same thing. Haven't bought any yet butmay try it if we have major problems again. Let me know how you go with the fennel tea.

I can't get Sophie to keep scratch mits on so we've been quite lucky in that a lot of her suits have in-built mits. Asda sell baby nail files so we bought some today as too afraid to try and use the clippers on Sophie's nails but they are also to soft to try and nibble off. They worked a treat and she must have enjoyed the pedicure as she promptly went to sleep Grin

MadKatz · 29/10/2011 20:45

Oops I meant manicure Grin

KLou111 · 30/10/2011 11:25

Lol at the mani madkatz clipped Euans nails yesterday morning as he scratched the inside corner if his eye (skin not ball).

Well, have decided to stop breastfeeding. I do love the closeness that I had with Euan but I am getting to a point that I almost starting to hate it when he's hungry. He's so heavy, and he won't eat for long for some reason at the mo either, he just roots and cries which is not like him at all. He's such a happy baby. Last night I was at the end of my tether and just burst into tears at 1.30am as he wouldn't feed, and rob came in and I said that's it I can't do it anymore.
Just spoke to my mum and she said I could do it gradually or just do it, but my boobs will hurt for a couple of days, which I am going to do.
Please don't judge me, which I know you won't, I just feel I am missing out on what rob has with him, and all I am doing is feeding him as I'm too tired to 'enjoy' him.

OP posts:
Iwish · 30/10/2011 12:00

klou we would never judge you, you have done fab! Most people give up after a few days! Your little man won't care where the milk is coming from as long as he can see that mummy and daddy are giving it to him.
Are you going to give formula or express and bottle feed?
Sometimes I think about bottle feeding just so nick can help and give me a break, when you are shattered at 2am its all so much worse too (not that I'm saying that's what happened with you). He doesn't get up at all in the night and only occasionally does nappies during the day. He will send time cuddling him in the day etc tho.
Do whatever makes you happy hun and don't listen to anyone who says otherwise.

Lol at the manicure madkatz! I disnt know they did nail files! I will have to get one, I made mum cut his nails with baby scissors.
I have been drinking the tea and giving him the infacol and he seems a lot better. Still has the occasional moan but I can cope with that. Apparently the fennel helps with milk supply too.

Well Joshua fed at 10:00 ish then 2:00 (which was really 3:00) then 7:30 then 10:20! Yey!!

KLou111 · 30/10/2011 17:09

Thanks iwish :) I've gone straight onto aptimil as meant to be closest to breast look but may go onto cow and gate if he's on it full time.
Nice to know he's actually full.
Great on joshuas feeding. Euan has been a bit messed up since he started fussing with his feeding am hoping it will go back to how he was if not better.

I've got a tommee tippee kit which has got a digi thermometer, hair brush, comb, nail file, clippers, scissors and nose thingy in. Was about £10 and think its fab as all in one case :)
