Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Jane yep I'm 3/5 engaged too and still have little feet poking under my ribs at times!! That said tho DS was a very long baby, as was DH when he was born, so am kinda expecting the same this time round.

Bumpsadaisie · 26/10/2011 10:44

Best of luck to Edward and Tally - hope its all happening!

Courage to all those still waiting! 41 weeks here today and rapidly descending into insanity. Poor DH is on a knife edge too! Midwife coming to do a sweep this morning so hopefully that might get something going. I hope it doesn't hurt too much!

Id imagined a waterbirth at the birth centre up to now, but now I'm starting to think this one might be like DDs birth all over again - induction, drip, epidural, forceps or maybe even CX. Its weird not knowing how it will all pan out ...

And sigh ....

BabCNesbitt · 26/10/2011 11:29

Good luck, Edward and Tally! I do hope this is it for you both!

Edward, if it is, then this reply is a bit late for now, but just wanted to chuck in my probably not very helpful tuppenceworth on the smoking thing. I agree with those who've said that at this time you'll need all the help you can get, and that it might be worth putting off the ultimatum until the new year; however, I'm just wondering if the habit might be even more entrenched by that time, making it even harder for him to stop? And he might be able to point to several weeks of being a competent father despite the cannabis use. Not that I think smoking doesn't make a difference to one's competence! But he might use it as an excuse to carry on merrily smoking away.

Like I said, I know that's not terribly helpful - sorry! Just something else to weigh up. But if your baby is about to arrive, then any weighing can wait! :)

40+1 here - went to see 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' yesterday afternoon on my own, because DH refused to go see it. Grin Must admit that I felt a little self-conscious, going in to the cinema heavily pregnant!

TallyBear · 26/10/2011 12:38

I'm still here!

Ctx were quite frequent but not very long/strong this morning. I then had to have a lie down, having had no sleep last night - this meant that they were less frequent but lasted longer and were stronger. Since being back upright they've been all over the place; anything from 4 to 14 mins apart and lasting 30 to 90 secs. No show or waters yet. Bouncing on ball and doing occasional trips upstairs and round dining room. Kept dh off work this morning and now feel a bit guilty as nothing really happening. Debating whether to go in anyway for the scan we've got booked. May need to phone the hospital soon to ask them. Don't seem to be progressing any more and both a bit fed up. Any clue how long this stage could last for?

Hope Edward is doing better....

MrsHende · 26/10/2011 13:58

Tally I hope things kick off well and truly for you this afternoon! Are there any ways to get things going? I think I'd call the hospital if I were you. Is the scan for something that will have an impact on your labour?

BabC how was the film? I started the book but couldn't read it, found it a bit too harrowing!

Bumps I hope the sweep has done the trick!

Dannid and Jane I was at the midwife yesterday and so far noone has mentioned things in 1/5s - what does that mean, is it how far down the baby's head is? My bump's bottom is definitely way above my tummy button and the midwife said it's at the rim but not in yet (not sure what that meant...other than that it's nowhere near out!!).

Fingers crossed for Edward!

Ladies, thank you all for your advice on whether you told your parents or not when you went into labour - I think it was pretty much an even split so no help at all Wink! I'd still rather not tell anyone but mum was pretty adamant when she was through on Monday so I reckon I'll tell her and dad (at a reasonable time of day if we go in in the middle of the night) and let DH decide what to do about his parents.

Mum has offered to come to the hospital to relieve DH if he needs a break but he really doesn't want her there so now I have to work out how best to tell her that!! He hates hospitals, hates being too hot (which he will be in a hospital) and doesn't cope too well with stress! I'd feel better with someone nearby to relieve him if he needed it - he has epilepsy and stress, heat, lack of sleep, irregular eating are all triggers for him...and I think all of those things may be the case I feel like I'd rather not have to worry about him when in the throes of getting this baby out, but on the other hand he says having mum there will just add to his stress! (He is fond of her but she's even bossier than me!!) Mum and Dad live an hour and a half away so they wouldn't be here immediately anyway so I think what I'll do is suggest that they come through here but go to our flat (which is five minutes from the hospital) and wait there so we can call on them if we need to.

Right, off to get ready for my FIL visiting to tackle the to-do list I've made for him! Thank goodness I summoned up the energy to make a malteaser tray bake yesterday to bribe/reward him with!

pinkpainter · 26/10/2011 16:05

Will catch up on all the posts soon - but just to say....

I am now the proud mum to my second DD. Madeleine May was born yesterday evening - it was a very fast 2 and a half hour labour from when my waters broke in the local park, and only 15 mins in hospital before she popped out!! :)

BB3 · 26/10/2011 16:10

Pink huge congratulations!!! Welcome little madeline xx

Pink - yay welcome madeline. These girls don't hang around do they? Lol Grin x

Jane4321 · 26/10/2011 18:12

Congratulations Pink! Lovely name, amazing birth!
dannid - ok, that's good to know. So she may be long and lean not necessarily long and really big?
Mrs H It will say in your notes if you are engaged at all. Engagement is when your baby's head moves down into your pelvis. Some babies only engage once labour has started.
Your midwife will write a figure in your notes to record how many fifths of your baby's head she can feel above the edge of your pelvis. So 5/5 or 4/5 in your notes means that your baby hasn't dropped down yet, while 3/5 or 2/5 or less means that your baby is engaged. (www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/fetaldevelopment/whenheadengage/)

seasaltbaby · 26/10/2011 22:02

Just popping onto say that Matilda Joy was born last night, weighing in at a lovely 6 lbs 13oz, she is perfect & doing well. congrats to pink & edward too. birth story to follow when home tomorrow & will catch up on everyone then.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/10/2011 22:29

Ok mhairi has literally been feeding almost non stop since she came out I really need to sleep what can I do?

MamaMaiasaura · 26/10/2011 22:42

Bless her Smile I'm sat feeding Jessica too. Get your dh to feed you and keep you hydrated. When she's having a break try swaddling her and having her led on you. All big change for them. Xx

MamaMaiasaura · 26/10/2011 22:44

Seasel Grin congratulations on Matilda! Love the name. Lots of girl babies popping out Smile xx

Bumpsadaisie · 26/10/2011 22:46

Big congrats Edward, Pink and Seasalt on the arrivals of Madeline, Mhairi and Matilda! Nice alliteration! Nice to see the baby girls getting on with it!

Well no sign of my (alleged) DS - cervix closed and posterior when midwife attempted sweep this morning ! Induction booked for Mon when will be 41+5. Hope it happens before then but in a way relieved to have an endgame to aim for - was induced with DD at 40 +0 weeks so I guess I know the score and it's likely to be better at nearly 42 weeks.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/10/2011 23:19

awen dh has now gone home I'm still in hospital, she hasn't come off for a break at all, I had to break her suction to let her get weighed and let me get into shower, I've now been feeding non stop for 4hours or so. Sad feel terrible but already considering dummy.

LittlePebble · 26/10/2011 23:52

Congratulations pink edward and seasalt wow a flurry of little girls loving all the m names!
Edward bless you she'll probably calm down soon as Awen said let her sleep in your chest skin to skin for the reassurance. How was your DH? No miracle epiphany about the smoking once he saw her? (ever hopeful emoticon)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 27/10/2011 00:15

Unfortunately not!
We're having skin to skin now but she just keeps rooting to nipple I don't actually think she's getting any milk though! At least I shouldn't have any issues with supply when milk does come in my body must think I'm trying to feed about 4 babies lol

BB3 · 27/10/2011 02:47

Congratulations seasalt and welcome to the world little m x

Edward has she settled down yet?
