oi I had DS at 35+5. He didn't need SCBU and stayed in for 3 days but only because I wanted to bf and his suck reflex hadn't developed.

sevensevenseven · 01/11/2011 16:22

Quick question before shopping tomorrow, if I BF or EBF will I definitely need nipple cream or should I wait and send DH out if I need it? I dont want to waste money on something I don't need but if I definitely will need it I'd rather have it already.

Xiaoxiong · 01/11/2011 16:22

I think one of the other threads (Oct '11?) used "the final countdown" as their thread title recently but we could use one of the lyrics maybe...

Oh now I am watching - they really are the real Spinal Tap!! but wtf are the lyrics all about - I guess the only appropriate one is will things ever be the same again? (or maybe so many light years to go/and things to be found considering the readiness of all our hospital bags??)

Jeez it makes me sad I was only 3 when this video was shot. I have a real soft spot for cheesetastic 80s big hair/spandex stadium rock thanks to Spinal Tap. I've got more Alcatrazz, Whitesnake, Yngwie Malmsteen, Stratovarius etc on my iTunes than I care to admit Blush I like Abba too...and swedish meatballs from Ikea...and coffee and cinnamon buns...and watching the Wallander mysteries on BBC4...perhaps I was Swedish in another life!

seven I don't even know whether I will need it but I bought a tube of lansinoh a few months ago and it's the best lip salve I've ever had, and worked wonders on my cracked heel!! Even if I end up never needing it for my nipples I will still use it for my feet and lips...

I kinda like

"Are you ready, Are you ready for this
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat...

Another one bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another one bites the dust"

figgygal · 01/11/2011 16:35

flaming heck ladies i have been offline all day and come back to another almost full thread you have been busy!!

msbuggywinkle · 01/11/2011 16:35

I do like Queen. Tis my Mum's fault, she indoctrinated me!

fusam · 01/11/2011 16:36

seven nipple cream for me was a God send from the beginning in hospital, since that could be when their latches aren't the best, didn't really use it too much after the early days. I have one packed in my hospital bag. I have memories of sitting in the hospital bed with both my norks out slathered in the stuff trying to let them air dry.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 01/11/2011 16:37

Good question Seven was thinking about that myself as i'm EBF

Xiaoxiong · 01/11/2011 16:41

I dunno lala...the most appropriate Queen song around here is (ahem)

"wanna be startin' something" (MJ)?

Or there's always "here comes my baby" (cat stevens)...

OP posts:
OiMissus · 01/11/2011 16:55

Or, if we're stuck on Queen, how about " just waiting for the hammer to fall". But I also like "wanna be startin' somethin, gotta be startin' somethin'"

Xiaoxiong · 01/11/2011 17:00

oi I forgot about "hammer to fall" but I'm not surprised you like the michael jackson one, considering what's going on with you at the moment Smile

Hope the pain is ok and you are managing - is your DH or anyone else with you?

OP posts:
LittleMissFlustered · 01/11/2011 17:10

We could go with a 'Squeeze' track for in joke irony:o >_

Cheeptrickortreat · 01/11/2011 17:14

OI how are you feeling now?

I have added the contration counter to my fav's as i had bh every 5 mins for an hour but they seem to have passed now, it was not very painful but i feel like crap and wanted to be sick.

OiMissus · 01/11/2011 17:19

Not been regular, but now on the third one where the pain has built up over a 5 min period, then started again.
DH is somewhere on the M6 so could be here in a couple of hours, I guess.
Mum should be home from work soon, so will give her a call then.

LittleMissFlustered · 01/11/2011 17:22

Sorry, was feeding the animals children:o

It sucks that you're all suffering pains. Here's hoping they're Braxton Hicks and all the babies continue cooking for a while yet.

Right. Off to steal a chicken skewer before the Cubs run debacle starts. Back later:)

Cheeptrickortreat · 01/11/2011 17:31

I was joking with my DH that i will go over due as i'm having loads of BH but he thinks i will give birth on 11/11/11 (on my mums birthday) Grin

OI How long untill your DH gets home? Is this your first child?

Cheeptrickortreat · 01/11/2011 17:33

sorry " a couple of hours" i got distracted by my son - he has a runny noise and conjutivious (gunky eyes) now and has not left my side all day, its hard typing with him sat on me too.

hawthers · 01/11/2011 17:41

hey oi hope the pains either do something or don't - depending on which you would like!

can i have a non pg related rant? I've just found out i've not been invited to go to a conference next week which most of my dept are going to. apparently they could only invite certain people from my level but people more junior than me at my level have been invited. the only reason i can think of is that i'm pg and am going on mat leave in 4 weeks. but isn't that basically discriminating against me because i'm pg which is illegal?

i'm fuming about it and feel really annoyed that i've been 'overlooked' - grump grump grump

plupervert · 01/11/2011 17:53

hawthers, do you want to go? If you do, they surely can't tell you not to go: if you say you are going, they will have to let you!

That sounds like a hell of a day, cheeptrick. Hope you manage a good night's sleep after all that!

Good luck to you, too, OiMissus!

hawthers · 01/11/2011 18:02

plu hmm if i'd been invited in the first place i'd probably have been not that bothered about going but as i haven't been invited i now want to go. it involves an overnight stay so i can't just turn up. its the principle damn it!

Mmmmcheese · 01/11/2011 18:18

hawthers if the only reason they didnt invite you was due to pregnancy it is discrimination. Is there anyone at work you can talk to?

seven i bought lansinoh last time but never needed it even tho i ebf for 12 months, but think am in the minority.

LO is getting me back for worrying about reduced movement yesterday as she is now going crazy and feels like she is trying to get out through my belly button. Keep getting stabbing pains at the sides as well but think is ligament pain.

Earwigwam · 01/11/2011 18:30

LittleMiss- it's a bit late for 'up the junction'!

Exciting that we are now at a point where possible contractions are a good thing rather than being too worrying, will watch the thread with interest tonight to see if anything developes.

aethelfleda · 01/11/2011 18:35

Hiya girls-pleased to report I had my 32 week scan and my placenta has played ball and buggered off removed itself to a better position. So I'm officially back on "normal" midwife care, and can ask for my nice quiet home from home room (assuming they let me in it properly this time!!)
I am SO relieved.

seven, there is Lansinoh nippple cream in my bag already- its the first day or two that it's most useful when baby's still getting used to plugging in (and I found for the first month it really really helped reduce cracking/soreness.

oi: good luck with things hon: they may be a bit stop-start but if things kick up, ring the midwives and say "this is really getting somewhere, I need to come in". Then go in. No midwife can turn you away once you pitch up, and at the least you'll get a check over: one of my friends "only" got backache, told to sit on it by the midwife, and nearly had the baby in the hospital car park!
(and 35&5 is near enough to term you prob won't be in long! Exciting to think we're probably close to number two baby on the thread :) )

Thread title: how about "We're Really Up the Junction" (one of my favourite Squeeze lyrics: appropriately enough about being knocked up!)

aethelfleda · 01/11/2011 18:38

Oops, x posted with LMF and Lala: I do like Squeeze though!
