fusam I swear that bout of cleaning wiped me out! I'll be slobbing for the next wo days to recoverWink

Welcome excited Please feel free to go find the stats thread and insert yourself in an appropriate place Also, as a new member of the group you have to pass the initiation ceremony, which is to faithfully prmise to do your pelvic floor squeezes every day, then forget until somebody on here shouts "SQUEEEEZE!" Wink

Can our new thread title involve squeezing? Between our pelvic floors and the impending arrivals I feel it would be quite apt...

Orf for a bath ladies. I just dyed my hair and need to wash the conditioner out. Have a good evening all:)

mopsytop · 30/10/2011 21:07

Wish that was the case for me fusam and Kate!
Welcome excited

sevensevenseven · 30/10/2011 21:11

I'm jealous of the non-growing hair. That's the best pregnancy symptom I've heard of, beats nausea and haemorrhoids!

OiMissus · 30/10/2011 21:16

I want non-growing hair!! Shaving is almost impossible, and makes me even more itchy! So Envy!!

LittleMissFlustered · 30/10/2011 21:36

My leg hair is on half-speed but the underarm area has sped up. Stupid hormones. Bikini area gets to do whatever it damn well pleases as I haven't the time or inclination to become engrossed in personal topiary Grin >_<

fusam · 30/10/2011 21:49

Kate am glad I am not alone with this weirdness. Sorry ladies wish I could dole out the baldy fairy, am thinking it's the result of some deficiency?

excitedforbaby · 30/10/2011 23:17

Thanks for the welcomes everyone :-) I like the initiation ceremony ritual of course I promise to do my pelvic floors.....
fusam I would also love non growing leg hair!! It's gotten to the stage where I can't bend down far enough to shave them myself!!

msbuggywinkle · 31/10/2011 07:12

Morning! squeeze

Grumpy again this morning, DD2 was awake at 5.30, DD1 6.30. We're supposed to be going to a Halloween party tonight, but I will not take them if they are being vile! Aaaaaaaand in the space it has taken me to type that, they have been horrible enough that we're not going.

sevensevenseven · 31/10/2011 08:53

Morning!

msbuggy any ideas what's causing them to be difficult?

I've got an exciting day planned of carving a pumpkin and making a squash curry. I finished knitting DD's blanket last night so will hopefully get time to sew in all the ends today.

OiMissus · 31/10/2011 09:24

Morning all, sorry in advance, am going to have a whinge. I had a horrid night last night. I kept having to go to the loo every few minutes, it seemed, but then at about 2am I was woken by absolutely excrutiating pain in my left hip and lower back. Nothing I could do would shift it. I came downstairs in tears to try and sort it (DH had to be up at 5 to go to work as he's working down south again til tomorrow, so I didn't want to ruin his sleep). I was in agony. I thought I was going to throw up - the pain was making me sick. I didn't even think about the natal hypno breathing or relaxation. I tried all kinds of positions, and eventually rang the maternity ward - in tears - for advice. They said it sounded like very bad sciatic pain, nothing can be done, just take paracetamol and good luck. So I did. At about 5.30 the pain subsided, it came back again later but just for 5 excrutiating minutes, then went again. Very luckily I had my physio follow up appointment at 8 - what kind of coincidence is that??! She realigned my hips (she pulled my leg, basically) and said that that should do it. She's ordered me to only wear trainers that give good foot support (avoid flats, avoid heels), sit on my ball, don't twist, don't sit on the sofa with legs up to one side etc., don't slouch, don't pull anything...
I called in sick. I'm fine now. But I really don't want another 5 weeks of this!

Back to positives... Highs:
DH made amazing profiteroles last night. I really enjoyed my Yo Sushi beforehand. Ma and Pa gave me money for my BD, and a quite a few extra £s towards the pram!! Am going to take it easy today and tidy up/do more baby prep and forget about work.
Have a good day everyone.
Sorry about the moan again.

Mmmmcheese · 31/10/2011 09:50

Hi everyone, and welcome excited! Wish my body hair had stopped growing too! I have kind of stopped caring about general hairiness but then get flashes of worry when i read about people who go and get waxed especially for labour! I might need to introduce dh to veet in the next few weeks.

I am annoyed as i have finally succumbed to piles. Annoyed as ive done all the right things to avoid them, its not fair! Already taking lactulose every day so now going to ad fybogel as wel although i hate the stuff.

Sorry for all the aches and pains and misbehaving children!

msbuggywinkle · 31/10/2011 10:16

oi that sounds crap, if it is any consolation my sciatica cleared up in less than a month and I'm back to normal now.

seven it is a combo of some general 2-ness from DD2 and DD1 being anxious about the new baby. DD1 has ADHD which makes her more susceptible to anxiety. Add to that me having less patience than usual with DD1's meltdowns and we have the continual screaming!

Anyway, current tactics are separating them, helping DD1 to calm down then dealing with whatever the argument was about. Lucky DD1 is tiny for her age really as she is still easy to pick up! I am living in fear of DD3 being ADHD too, two balls of ravening lunacy and I might need commiting!

Cheeptrickortreat · 31/10/2011 11:10

Can someone tell me what the difference between contrations and BH is please?

I have had mild pains/tighting in my bump from last night going from top to bottom of bump. But they are very mild and i even slept thru them but they are still there today! Baby is kicking and i have just lost more of my mucus plug and feel a bit crappy tbh.

Please tell me it BH.

Xiaoxiong · 31/10/2011 11:11

Morning all! DH is back to work after half term now so I am home alone. I am taking kri5ty's advice, called into work this morning and told them that the rest of the week I would be off sick and then mat leave would start a week today as planned (actually the first three weeks is holiday anyway). I'm 35+3 today so they can't use the sick leave as an automatic trigger until 36 weeks anyway. I'll still have to go into the office one day this week - prob Thursday - to clear my desk and get my birthing ball that I was sitting on for the last few months, leaving lunch, and then home on the mid-afternoon train to beat rush hour. But basically, apart from logging on from home today to close down my October time sheets, I'm pretty much on mat leave!!

However...I seem to have a to-do list as long as my arm [hconfused] Today's tasks:

  • pick up borrowed moses basket & sheets from friends
  • buy homebirth stuff online - plastic sheeting, new towels (so our old ones can be used for the birth), TENS machine, beanbag, candles
  • buy various homeopathy things online - clary sage, witch hazel, tea tree oil, hypercal, raspberry leaf tea
  • order crib and mattress from Ikea (we went and checked them out in-store and liked them but they wouldn't fit in our car...damn you Ford Ka)
  • buy cloth nappies - I got a personalised recommendation from the Nappy Lady online so we're going with the bambini bamboo nappies with motherease rikki wraps for nighttime, and some bumgenius ones for daytime. If they don't work out we can return them to her which is great.

And somewhere in there I'm going to mix up a batch of no-knead bread (aka the BEST BREAD IN THE WORLD) and bake something for DH's tutorial boys who are coming over this evening (the source of the weekly highs & lows, remember [hsmile]).

I'm not going to have time to squeeze, use the epi-no or practice hypnobirthing so I guess I'll just skip those for today [hwink]

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 31/10/2011 11:14

cheep I've been having those - the MW told me that as long as they're not regular, you can sleep through them/ignore them and they're not increasing in frequency, regularity, duration or intensity that they're just braxton hicks. If they are doing any of the above, keep a record of them as they might be real contractions.

But then she said rather unhelpfully "you'll just know - if you're wondering if they're "real contractions" they're probably not" [hhmm]

OP posts:
Cheeptrickortreat · 31/10/2011 11:21

They are regular but not strong or very painful so i'm not sure. I'm not going to panic yet as they are not that strong and labour hurts!

I'm going to believe they are just BH and see if they stop or get worse i think Confused

My SPD is back so i think the baby's head must be pressing agenst my pelvis bone and that hurts.

msbuggywinkle · 31/10/2011 11:28

cheep time them. If they are regularly spaced definitely get them checked out, if not I'd probably still get it checked if they don't go off soon.

sevensevenseven · 31/10/2011 11:29

cheep how many weeks are you? They may well just be braxton hicks but if they're regular they could be the start of very early labour. With DS I had regular non-painful contractions but the MW dismissed it and said they were just BH. The next morning I went into established labour. If they start to get any stronger ring your MW or the delivery suite.

Cheeptrickortreat · 31/10/2011 11:40

I'm 35 weeks today. Baby should be about 7lb now as she is big, MW said last week that its not a problem if she comes sooner than later.

They are 20 mins apart but very mild and only 4 seconds long. I'm hoping it will just stop/go away - i'm sat on the sofa doing nothing so i hope it will go off. DH at work and has told me to call him if they get worse but so far its very mild.

Mmmmcheese · 31/10/2011 12:49

I had loads of irregular bh with ds but one evening, all of a sudden, they started coming regularly, every ten minutes. They got stronger and quicker very quickly and after half an hour it went into full blown two mins apart contractions. But everyones different so you just be ramping up more slowly. Good that mw said not a prob if she comes now.

OiMissus · 31/10/2011 14:38

Good luck cheep. Glad to hear that your MW believes that your baby is ready, if it does come early. My baby was measuring big too, I'm 35+4 (If the first day is +1), so you have given me hope - although I'll probably be very unlucky and go overdue.
Congratulations tyel on your early Mat leave - another one who's making me jealous! And thanks for reminding me about the TENS machine. I've now arranged to hire a MamaTENS My time, you can record your contractions on it, and give yourself an extra pain relief burst for moments of intense pain. After this morning, maybe my pain threshold is pretty weak... how do you measure that??!
I have also bought a sling today, and have decided on the playgym I want - but it's out of stock.
I think that's pretty much everything done. :)
Oh, and I have consumed my bodyweight in Jelly Babies. Feel a bit sick now, and getting the dreaded acid reflux. Maybe one day I'll learn.

plupervert · 31/10/2011 15:08

Fingers crossed for you, cheep; that's hard to live with even if it's not labour itself! Shock If it does come to labour, though, we're all still here, so you'll get lots of congrats if you do sprog now! Smile

As for everyone else, the aches and pains seem to be getting worse. I am wincing and crossing my legs at some of the symptoms!

Sorry the DDs are getting on your and their own nerves, msbuggywinkle. Here's hoping the sensory overload starts to include a big dollop of nurturing instincts for your new arrival (and for DD2, in case she feels left out, not being the "baby" any more)!

Have just spent the afternoon scraping money together from various accounts to pay DH's corporation tax, as the bugger is chronically late with things, and had not got his business account set up to send and receive payments! A bit crap that an intermittently-working SAHM has access to more money than a City-working man! Admittedly, a lot of it was joint money that I have access to (as I can be bothered to remember passwords and logins), but there was still over £700 of my own money in the mix. Hmm Thank goodness for a wedding ring, which is the "bond of steel" protecting me from financial ruin!

P.S. Hello, excited!

aethelfleda · 31/10/2011 15:12

See how things go cheep, if they are still around through the afternoon then ring Labour Ward and explain, they will get you in for a checkover esp if they are regular or getting any stronger - BH contractions are typically irregular, so anything persistant should be checked out by a proper MW, not just your internet buddies!! (esp if you've had some show with it.) good luck!

tyel, I'm v jealous! Though I'm behind you a way (32 weeks tomorrow- yay!) it's going to be a long last month at work for me!

We're passing on the pumpkin: currently snuggling on sofa with DDs watching cute Dr Who (the episode with the cuddly adipose aliens) then a bit of cheeky primary-school-age trick or treating, and then we go home and set up our haloween welcome set (glow in dark monster balloons and bowl full of toad dribble (red jelly with choc bars submerged in them- any trick or treaters have to earn their choc around our way!) or the little darlings can have a healthy satsuma if they won't brave the dribble!

BluebellsintheSpring · 31/10/2011 15:18

Msbuggywinkle that sounds pretty exhausting to deal with at this stage; hope the DDs have settled for today.

Cheaptrick hope you're doing okay and very reassuring that m/w thinks baby is ready should it decide to put in early appearance!

Oi sciatica sounds miserable - glad you're off work today and hope you're feeling better soon.

I'm off work today as well as this week is my half term. Only have one week to go when I go back as well! I'm somewhere between delighted and absolutely petrified at how much I still have to get done to allow for a smooth handover. Focus now, however, is on house move. We get the keys tomorrow to our rented house but removal people don't come to Wed so will be moving across the 2 days. Have been trying not to overdo it but pain in my lower back today is sharp and shooting - just sitting down for a well- earned rest. Now I feel like some Jelly Babies - must focus on Oi's warning of acid reflux!

figgygal · 31/10/2011 15:19

Im at home sick today too had a headache yesterday and woke up with a funny throat and a bit of the sweats this morning but by time went to see midwife for 34 week appointment my head was thumping, had a temperature etc so she sent me home to take paracetamol. Have decided to work from home as had laptop back with me and couldnt face day not doing anything but sitting on sofa. god knows how i am going to switch off when am on mat leave waiting for baby to arrive!!

On a positive note baby is head down and all seems fine unfortunately she is going to weigh me at my 36 week appointment...............am already hanging my head in shame that i have allowed my sweet tooth to take control.

Sorry to hear some of us suffering and Cheep keep us informed with whether your pains are BH or baby is coming!!
