Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

Looks like I'll be under consultant care due to probs with first labour (though not with pregnancy in general) Not sure what this will involve, has anyone else had it? Not sure if they mean seeing consultants for the whole pregnancy, or just being in the cons-led unit rather than the MW-led unit for labour?? Confused

I have my docs appt tomorrow - I actually booked it 3 weeks ago, but as usual at our surgery you have to wait an eternity to get to see anyone... good job it wasn't urgent eh?!

VintageNancy · 11/08/2011 15:43

Just back from my midwife appointment. It flew by - she took bloods, filled in forms, wee sample, blood pressure and asked me if I want a Nuchal Scan for Downs Syndrome (said yes). Got a pack of info and loads of marketing stuff (Pampers etc).

She's put me down for consultant-led care too BeyondTheLimits as I had surgery on my back last year. She said that if the consultant is happy with my back etc I can switch to midwife-led.

So now I just wait for the scan appointment. That's going to be a long wait!

StrandedinStLucia · 11/08/2011 16:12

It's all very exciting!!!

Thank you for adding me to the list.

I did pop down to the doctors today and picked up a "maternity pack" filled out my details and they faxed it (somewhere - i don't know where!) I will hear from a midwife soon to have my appointment!

PiggyMad · 11/08/2011 18:24

Hi ladies,
not checked in for a while so have missed loads!
welcome to stranded. I picked up a maternity pack this week and have filled in all the relevant bits and have to take it back at my first midwife appointment on Tuesday. I then have another 'booking in' appt at about 9 or 10 weeks I think.
Hope everyone is well :)

whenskiesaregrey · 11/08/2011 21:32

Hello all new people!

AprilAl I didn't know that about the food/ drink not having an impact yet- when is the placenta formed?! I remember reading the week by week 'how your baby is growing' with DS, but trying not to do it this time, as I'm sure it made the whole thing seem to go on forever!!

spout no, I was on the June thread, DS was due 21/6 but didnt arrive until 3/7 after being induced. How strange would that have been if we had chatted on the same ante-natal thread last time!! I only stopped posting on there when DS was about 1; I think its still going now, but I missed a few weeks and fell behing Blush and just left it :( we met up and everything, they are lovely people :)

So, have people decided what tests they are going to have?? We declined the down's screening with DS, because we decided we didn't want the worry if the result was high risk. We wouldn't have the amnio as wouldn't terminate for Down's anyway, and would just end up worrying the whole pregnancy. In the end, we had two soft markers reported at 20-week scan which put us as high risk 1/100, and we had the worry after all!! In the end, all was fine, but didn't appreciate the worry. They told if we had tested early in pregnancy and it had come back low risk, then we would have gone to 1/1000 instead Hmm. Also, never sure if paternal age has an impact??? I'm 25 but DH is 44 .

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/08/2011 21:37

Hello ladies, I'm from the April 2011 thread and just spotted yours, can't believe it is a year ago that I found out I was pg with ds.

Congratulations and good luck to you all Smile

AprilAl · 12/08/2011 00:24

Hi whenskiesaregrey

First of all I should point out that I don't claim to be anything like an expert on these matters, I'm just going by what I've read recently in various books/leaflets/websites - and yes, it does already feel like forever since I found out, so maybe too much reading is a bad thing!

Apparently the placenta doesn't start to form until after implantation, which happens a week after fertilisation (so week 3 going from LMP). The placenta is fully formed by week 5-6 (again from LMP). Once the placenta has taken over supplying nutrients then obviously what we eat and drink has a direct effect. So as long as we're both good girls from now on... Wink

kat2504 · 12/08/2011 07:08

AprilAl, according to a book I have, the placenta begins to form after implantation as you say but it takes several weeks to mature. Until about week 7-8, the embryo is still taking most of its nourishment from the yolk sac. Obviously there is some placenta there already at 5-6 weeks but it hasn't taken over yet until 8 weeks. Not that that means you can eat and drink what you like! I think it's probably good to get started in the healthy ways as soon as you find out.
However, before you found out you were pregnant there was likely to be no placental function at all. My best friend found out she was pregnant the morning after her hen night. Her little girl was just fine!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 12/08/2011 10:31

Whenskies we didnt have the Downs tests with DS either, as the midwife messed up the dates and when I went for the test it was too late. Was undecided if I wanted it anyway, so that made up my mind Grin
Not sure if I'll have it with #2, I'm thinking probably not. As you said, I wouldnt terminate for Downs anyway, and I'd be too worried about the effects of the amnio.
I feel like utter shit this morning. Luckily DHs run of shifts has ended, so he got up with DS and I stayed in bed til 10am!!

Re the alcohol, I found out I was preg with DS just after New Year. And I dont actually remember the party, I drank that much. And he's hunky dory. :)

AprilAl · 12/08/2011 10:41

Anyone else having a real problem with the piped bread smell in supermarkets?
I haven't had any proper MS yet, just felt a bit queasy yesterday after getting all hot and bothered doing the vacuuming, but that smell turns my stomach every time I walk in. I used to quite enjoy food shopping (yes, I know that's weird Wink), but it's turning into a bit of an ordeal.

whenskiesaregrey · 12/08/2011 19:54

thanks AprilAl, kat and beyond for the reassurance about the drink Grin tis strictly off limits from now on for me. Am Shock at a FB friend of mine who is about 16 weeks pregnant, who last night declared that she had already cooked tomorrow night's tea incase she got drunk in the day that she didn't fancy cooking later!! Hmm

AprilAl would you like to do my food shopping for me?! It is the worst job ever! We were having noodles last night for tea and they definetly smelt like rubber gloves to me... also had Cathedral City cheese on a bagel earlier in the week and it tasted like perfume it is my favourite too!

No MS for me, but just a lack of appetite, and they only things I do fancy are crappy processed junk. Last time I craved Callipo ice lollies, although this time I just seem to want noodles all the time.

Is everyone being good and waiting until 12 weeks to tell people?! We have told a few people, don't know how much longer I will be able to go without saying anything, I'm awful at secrets. Christmas and birthdays are a nightmare Wink

whenskiesaregrey · 12/08/2011 19:55

Hi ILikeToMoveItMoveIt hope your DS is doing well Grin thanks for saying hi! I know how crazy it was when we all saw the June 10 thread, 3 months flies by doesn't it!

LaTristesse · 12/08/2011 20:47

Had docs appt today; utterly pointless, all he did was confirm my date. Nothing else. At all. Apparently I have to self-refer to a midwife these days... Cut backs eh?!

Yes, we're waiting until 12 weeks, although it is much harder to keep quiet this time!

No weird food things here yet, just very thirsty, and off coffee entirely. Last time I just wanted to eat junk too whenskies..., I figure your body tells you what you need, and I definitely had a much better diet when I fell pg with DS...

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 12/08/2011 21:14

We've told my parents, sisters, PILs, BIL, best friend, DHs best friend, and DH's two cousins (of similar age who we're close too, it slipped out with one so then had to tell the other Grin) (seems loads of people when its written down, lol!)

I'm not sure how long I wont be able to tell my cousin for as she asks every time I see her if I'm preg yet (everyone knows we wanted DC2 as close to DS as possible)

We're hopefully waiting til about 8 weeks to tell people we are relatively close to (DH and sisters birthdays bank hol weekend so will do it then :)), and will announce it to the world in general after the first scan.

Luckily we have something planned for every weekend from now until 12weeks (same week as DS 1st birthday!!) so that should help it go faster. Although part of me doesnt want DS to be one yet, so my mind is conflicting with itself...

AprilAl · 12/08/2011 21:32

I've had a non-stop appetite, which is really unusual for me, but I wouldn't say I've had anything particularly weird foodwise. My body is telling me to eat really healthy things though, which is good, it makes eating well a pleasure not a chore - hope it lasts! Just finished a huge bowl of cherries, blackberries and blueberries which I've been having quite regularly. Oh and almonds taste delicious! I've always found them rather bland and boring before and wouldn't normally buy them, but for some reason a huge bag of them ended up in my trolley today. I'm really glad they did!

We're planning on waiting until we've had the 12 week scan before telling people, but it's killing us. Can't wait to spill the beans. I did tell my oldest friend as I was due to spend the day with her two days after I found out and I knew I'd burst if I didn't tell her. Stayed with my Dad that weekend too and he rumbled me when he took us out to the pub and I stuck to lime and soda all night. I knew he'd find that suspicious Wink They're both sworn to secrecy though until we see that heartbeat. I've never known time to go so slowly...

aprilfoolsbaby · 12/08/2011 22:00

Glad to see so many ladies joining the thread. We'll be packed out soon.
Is anyone else feeling cold? I;ve been absolutely freezing when everyone else is in T shirts? Googled it - shouldn't have as it seems I may have a thyroid problem!
Apart from that I feel sick as a dog. I work with a bloke who smokes cigars and it takes a real effort not to visibly gag when he comes back in after having one. I'm also starving one minute and feel sick the next.
The joys of it all. Enjoy your weekends.

JoJoB77 · 13/08/2011 12:06

Hi ladies

I'm from the March 10 thread but didn't have my daughter until April this year. Just as ILikeToMoveIt* says the last year has just flown!

Just wanted to wish you all the luck for the next 8 or 9 or so months!

caramel25 · 13/08/2011 12:21

Hello again

I've updated the list as we saw the GP yesterday and due date is actually 1 April! He just gave me a pack of info and then filled in some forms which i collect next week and then I book an appointment myself with the midwife. We also had an early scan on Thurs and saw the heartbeat which was amazing especially as its only 5.4mm! I go back for another one in 3 weeks - they monitor IVF pregnancies more closely in the first 9 weeks and then I go back to normal care after that all being well. Still trying not to get too excited. No symptoms apart from sore boobs.

Hi can I join please? I got a very unexpected bfp last week! Its dc2 for me, I have a 21mo ds. I'm seeing the mw on Monday but have worked out my due date is 6th april. It still doesn't seem real!

Congratulations to all the newly upduffed ladies Smile

whenskiesaregrey · 13/08/2011 19:36

caramel its incredible to think there is a tiny heartbeat there isnt it! Glad you are getting lots of reassurance in the early days.

LaTristesse I have to refer myself to the Midwives too, never had to last time. So, went to the Drs on Wednesday and the form to give back is still here. There is a pee pot in the pack too, not sure if I'm meant to hand that in with the pack?!

aprilfoolsbaby I have been feeling the cold too, but it is actually colder Wink. I've been lying with a blanket over me the last couple of nights. I would much rather that than those unbearably muggy nights we had a few weeks ago.

So far we have told DSS, DS (although not sure how much he understands!) my mum and dad, DH's dad, and a couple of close friends. Not sure if I want to tell anyone else yet, but I usually play football, so people will start asking why I'm not playing soon.

DH's dad asked if it was planned. He asked this last time too... does anyone else think that its a bit rude?! That is what he is like though Hmm

spout · 13/08/2011 20:40

we've told close family and a couple of close friends. I know it's early and anything could happen, but they are the people whose support I'd like if something went wrong. Although MIL asked DH "...and are you happy about it?" Hmm whenskies yup it does sound rude to ask if it was planned but some people (esp older) seem to see it as a standard query!

Talking of cutbacks, we don't even see a GP first anymore - have been given an appt to see a midwife at 9 weeks. Seems like ages away

whenskiesaregrey · 13/08/2011 21:13

just a quick one...

can I eat Cadbury's Fruit and Nut??? DH got me some for tonight to replace a glass of wine Grin

MrsY · 13/08/2011 21:20

Hi all! I tested this morning on D38, and got a nice strong positive, so hear I am! This is my third pregnancy but will be my second child (all being well). My daughter is 2.5 years.

Have a GP appointment on Monday, so keeping fingers crossed till then, and I'm another one keeping my mouth shut 'till 12 weeks. I'll tell my mum, and then my sister in a few weeks, but other than that, we'll keep schtum 'till the scan shows all is well.
