Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

Yay, welll todays test also says i am pregnant, so i guess i believe it now. :o

VikingLady · 20/07/2011 10:57

Hi Carlita! We're not telling anyone except my mum until the 12 weeks, and I am pretty sure they'll all guess. I usually live off Wine and Brew strong coffee, and family and friends are speculating about why I am off them... The current theory in the office is that I have a stomach ulcer! It explains the slight nausea (so VERY grateful to have been spared most of that, I am sorry for everyone who has it, my mum recommends crystallised ginger) too!

Carlitawantsababy · 20/07/2011 10:58

Congratulations babybrain ! I did a total of 9 tests - all positive before really believing it! When you really want something it's hard to believe you're lucky enough to be given it isn't it?
Really can't be bothered with work anymore, maternity leave ought to start when you get your BFP don't you think?

babybrain3 · 20/07/2011 11:32

Definitely up for longer maternity leave, great idea!!! Just booked in at the doctors, appt is next weds... Sickness is beginning to get worse now.. Boobs hurt so much, clothes very tight and uncomfortable, just feel like laying on the sofa all day in my scruffs, but have to take dd to the hospital this afternoon, she's having a chipped tooth filled. Luckily a friend has taken Ds to the cinema, so wont have him in tow too... Can't imagine how on earth I will manage with 3 children!!!! What on earth have I let myself in for??? Ohh a little bit of rambling thinking out loud there....

feekerry · 20/07/2011 12:08

Morning ladies. Hope all are well. Just a quick q re appointments- when are yours? I've been booked in with mid wife 24 aug when i'm about 10 weeks and doctor said my scan would be between 10 and 13 weeks but they didn't book anything. Do I get written to? Are these times normal? When are yours!

broodylicious · 20/07/2011 12:28

WAHOOOOOO! Congratulations :) :) :)

I found out last week that I'm expecting our first on March 24th and am so so happy (but also ridiculously scared of mc as I know so many people who've suffered).

I'm going to my doctor tonight to fill in all the forms which will get me on the midwives radar - mega excited about that!!! - and then, yes, just that long hard slog until the 12 week scan and having to keep this a big secret.

Are you all feeling well? My boobs are so sore and I am bloated like crazy and need to wee so often!

xx

Moffit · 20/07/2011 16:44

Afternoon Ladies, I got my BFP on Sunday and also again on Monday (just to be sure)! We are due to have our first baby on 24th March, but I am feeling quite aprehensive following a miscarriage in April at 7 weeks. We will be keeping this a complete secret until our 12 week scan. Think I am going to wait another week before calling the doctor too(at 6 weeks). But I started feeling little waves of sickness this afternoon........which can only be a good sign and also peeing a lot too! Hopefully all will go to plan this time! xx

Carlitawantsababy · 20/07/2011 17:20

feekerry I don't have my doctors appointment till Tuesday so no idea re scans as yet! You're saying about filling in forms - I just rang for a doctors appointment, I didn't tell the receptionist that I'm pregnant, should I have done? Don't want to turn up for the appointment and it's not the right thing to do? Pretty clueless! Blush

Carlitawantsababy · 20/07/2011 17:23

Welcome and congratulations broody and moffit!Grin
moffit so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, how awful, did you have a lack of symptoms with that pregnancy?

Suprisedbuthappy · 20/07/2011 17:27

Congratulations everyone!

Carlita- had my implant removed 28th May and just one cycle! Pretty scared as it's our first too!

Feekerry re appointments I called my doctors when I found out on Monday, but they said I don't need to make an appointment to see the doctor and just go straight to midwife? They booked me an appointment for 11th August. Anyone else experienced this? Feels a bit odd as its quite a big thing to sink in and they said oh it's ok we don't need to see you!!

I keep getting waves of nausea but didn't think it would happen this early which has taken me by surprise. Not feeling too tired at the mo which is good.

I keep thinking oh gosh this can't be real, did 2 tests in one day and both positive (in the evening too) so guess it just needs to sink in!

LadyciaraTaru · 20/07/2011 17:45

I think every health trust works differently. I booked an appointment with my doctors straight after taking the test and saw them last week, she then told me to book in with the midwife at the same practice and my mw appointment is next Weds morning. No idea about the scan but I'm sure the mw will keep me on the right track.

All very exciting though :) :)

ZhenXiang · 20/07/2011 18:36

Congratulations and welcome to all the newly confirmed pregnant ladies :)

10-13 weeks for first scan normal in London.

I booked in two weeks ago and am awaiting a letter from the midwife team and ultrasound appt. Last time round I remember it took several weeks for the letters to get to me.

Yes you can book directly through the midwife or get referred by GP.

Midwives do most of your check-up appt's through your pregnancy so makes sense that you have to see them too.

feekerry · 20/07/2011 20:18

well all my first appt with the doctor was done over the phone and doctor pretty much just said congrats, come down for a pregnancy pack (which consisted of a flyer!!!) and told to book an appt with mid wife. which is when i'm 10 weeks- 24th aug. what a long wait!!!!
MOFFIT- your due the same day as me!!! lets hope thats a lucky omen!!!xx

Davinaaddict · 20/07/2011 20:44

I had my first app with the midwife today at 6+5. With DS1 I booked an appointment with my doctor who basically said congratulations, book an appointment with the midwife which was the following week! Complete waste of time IMO. SO this time I rang up and said 'I've just found out I'm pregnant so I think I need to book an appointment with the midwife', so it would give the receptionist an opportunity to say No you need to see the doctor first as I've changed doctors since so don't know what the procedure is. She just booked me straight in with the midwife, who today has asked me some questions, taken a shed load of some blood and sent off to book me in for a dating scan about 12 weeks & a referral for the consultant (I want a VBAC if possible). Next appointment is at home in about a month Grin.

It might be worth you ringing the docs again Carlita just to see what their procedure is. If you don't need to see the doctor, then you might find it a waste of time, and then you'll need another appointment and more time off work that you'll have to explain away.

ZhenXiang · 20/07/2011 20:51

I want a VBAC too Davina was told by consultant at EMCS with DD that I should have no problems giving birth naturally next time as DD had jammed her head in a funny position so could have birthed her naturally if she hadn't got stuck. There is a load of information on AIMS site and here are some positive stories

WeGotThere · 20/07/2011 21:06

Carlita, i had done the same as you just booked a docs app. The only form i filled out was one for prescription exemption or something like that. So like davina said it may well be worth seeing if the receptionist could book you in with the midwife so you get in earlier if possible.

Xxx

Davinaaddict · 20/07/2011 21:37

Fab, thanks ZhenXiang - sounds like we had a similar experience! DS1 was trying to out ear first, so it's standing joke in our house that he was waiting for Daddy to give him permission for him to arrive - it was really bad snow & Daddy had given Bump strict instructions not to come out until the weather improved Grin

I've got a really close friend who never went into labour at all despite being induced with DD so of course EMCS for her, then managed fantastically well with VBAC with DS. I think she was in hospital about an hour in total!

I've been reading today as well that the consultant I've been referred to was up for an award for all the work she has done/still does to encourage VBAC's so I think I'll be in good hands - fingers crossed for you!

Carlitawantsababy · 20/07/2011 22:28

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I don't have to take any time off work for the appointment (or any others as am community based and manage my own time) but I don't want things to be delayed either or for it to be a complete waste of time! I'll give them a call tomorrow if I get a chance and see what the score is. I would love the scan to be at 10 weeks instead of 12, wouldn't that just be great?!

OP posts:
MrsRV · 21/07/2011 08:29

Omg... Vbac and em... Whatever it was!?! I have no idea what any of this means! Help!

So... My new thing is that I'm having a phantom pregnancy and when they scan there'll be nothing in there. I know I'm strange and a slight hypochondriac...Grin

Sister in laws wedding tomorrow (please no one ask me about drinking... Please let me pretend that I am drinking and pull it off!).

The list of people that we've told is growing! Off to tell my gran and Gramp today... It cheers me up telling people and distracts me from worrying!

So ladies.. I'm 6 weeks today... When should I hear from midwife? Do I have an appointment before the 12 wk scan? I've heard that they try to find the heartbeat?

CLUELESS! Smile

Moffit · 21/07/2011 08:47

Feekerry I'm glad there is someone due on the same date, it will be nice to have a due date buddy!

Carlita Thanks for the welcome, I didn't have any sickness last time, but I was very very tired. I want to get excited but I think I have my feet firmly on the ground this time. We announced our pregnancy to all our close friends and family. So this time we are not telling a single soul until the scan! Not quite sure how I am going to keep quite for another 7 weeks. Hopefully I can talk on here to keep me going?!

Davinaaddict · 21/07/2011 10:16

MrsRV - VBAC is Vaginal Birth After Caesarean, EMCS is emergency caesarean, ELCS is elective caesarean. Oh and OMG is Oh My God Wink

Hope this helps! There is a acronym page on the site (think it's at the bottom of the page, but I'm on my phone so can't check for you I'm afraid) - you might that useful cos it's hard to keep up sometimes. I'm just glad there's no text speak on here! Grin I wouldn't have a clue!

I'm feeling a bit the same about the phantom pregnancy thing even with all the symptoms!! Think it just hadn't quite sunk it yet - slightly worrying after 2.5 weeks!! I've no idea how I managed to wait til the scan last time as I had no symptoms at all really - making up for it this time though Smile

Davinaaddict · 21/07/2011 10:20

Also, have you made an app with the midwife yet? Sorry if I've missed that you have - struggling to keep up with 2 threads with all you lovely ladies!Grin I made an app with mine yesterday, but I'm not seeing her now for over a month. It's really spaced out in the early days if you are low risk, no problems, history etc so don't worry if it seems like ages between visits. You will get sick of all the appointments by the end! Grin

badgercat · 21/07/2011 14:16

Hi all :)

I'm expecting baby number 3 (eeeek) on friday 23rd March, Ive just booked my first appt with the midwife which will be when im 9 weeks. Seems an age away right now but I know it will fly.

I already have 2 gorgeous boys who are 6 and 7, this will be my last time round so I intend to savour every minute of it !

BC x

babybrain3 · 21/07/2011 15:38
