Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

Goodness, I hope none of us have any early surprises like that! I hope all these early babies do well.
Just finished the last of my Christmas shopping, but it's wet & windy more like autumn than winter down on the South Coast, so not quite in the festive mood yet. Seems very odd not to be drinking mulled wine & things this year- that's usually when it begins to feel like Christmas.

broodylicious · 23/12/2011 16:43

We have left the sex a surprise and that I can cope with. Early arrival? Definitely not!

Finished work now til Jan 3 GrinGrin When I go back, it's three days a week til march 14 (10 days before baby is due). Getting all excited about everything now!! GrinGrin

Carlitawantsabauble · 23/12/2011 18:23

Ooh, lovely broody sounds good. kiki I had mulled punch from sainsburys with my mince pies today, very nice it was too. M and S do a good one too apparently. Xmas Smile

broodylicious · 24/12/2011 09:14

Happy Christmas Eve mummies to be!! Just think, this time next year things will be ever so slightly different..... Grin

Carlitawantsabauble · 27/12/2011 10:58

Hello all, did you have nice a christmas? Ours was lovely, stress free with lots of baby cuddles and good food. Got some lovely presents too, most excited about having a set of crochet hooks, some wool and a book about learning to crochet. I'm doing okay so far. It's something I've been wanting to try as I like making things but am totally useless at knitting! Got some really cute things for the baby too! Xmas Grin

KikiRC · 27/12/2011 20:31

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all had a lovely time. I was very overfed by the family- I think the bump has doubled in size since last week! Yes, Broody- everyone kept saying things about next year (my sister is getting married in Oct, so a big year for our family)... Got given a few small baby clothes which are very cute, and a big pack of nappies... Also about a million and one daft name suggestions! Has anyone made any name decisions yet? X

KikiRC · 28/12/2011 19:52

Just wondered if anyone has had their 28 blood tests yet? I had mine a week early because I've been seeing the MW every 6 weeks & because of the Xmas break... Heard today I have to go to the GP tomorrow morning re: the results, so something must have come up. I think it was checking for antibodies etc, but last time I tested A rhesus positive & DP is B+, so I don't think it can be a rhesus negative problem. Don't feel anaemic, either (I have been in the past, & it completely knocked me out then). Any ideas anyone? I've the appointment at 9.30am, so not too long to wait, just hope it's all OK.

KikiRC · 28/12/2011 19:53

28 week blood tests, that should say. X

Carlitawantsabauble · 28/12/2011 23:05

I've got mine next week kiki, sorry. It probably is iron count, it's so common and don't think it has to be bad enough for you to feel wiped out for them to want you to start supplements. Glad your appointment is so soon, at least you can't worry about it for long! Smile let us know.

KikiRC · 28/12/2011 23:19

Thanks, Carlita, yes hope it's just something simple & they give me iron tablets etc. My dad (retired GP) said not to worry, it shouldn't be anything too serious. X

broodylicious · 29/12/2011 09:26

Good luck this morning Kiki - my guess would also be something simple like iron levels but fingers crossed for you anyway. I have my 28 week appt tomorrow morning so am preparing myself for those needles Sad my mum is coming with me so she can hear the heartbeat and then we are off into town to check out the sales. I'm r looking forward to it and I know she is too! Smile

Re names: we had chosen both a girls and boys name and thought we were both settled on them. But last night - after a very lovely birthday meal with my family - we discovered that we both had reservations about one each (me with the boy, DH with the girl!) so we are pretty much back to square one again! We had made the decision a long time ago though not to tell anyone our choices because we've found that people are so judgemental and it's obvious - even if they don't mean to be - when they don't like a name. It's so tricky!! What about everyone else?

Carlitawantsabauble · 29/12/2011 09:57

We've decided on a name! We did have two we liked but then DH came up with a different one which we both prefer. We also decided not to share with anyone as don't want people's opinions affecting our decision and will just announce his name when he is born that way people will have to at least pretend to like it or keep comments to themselves (hopefully) Wink

KikiRC · 29/12/2011 10:32

Hello- yes, it was just iron which was a bit low, though nothing dramatic. Have been given iron tablets anyway & they'll re-check at some point. Also had a few more bloods taken as I'm a vegetarian to check B12 levels etc. But they weren't worried.

We're not completely decided on names, but have a few favourites. Top at the mo: Ivy for a girl, Robin for a boy. But I think we'll wait until it's born & see what suits it.

broodylicious · 29/12/2011 14:35

Really pleased it was just iron levels Kiki - although those tablets give off some, er, not altogether nice side effects do they?Blush

Baby has been v active this week. Even thought I was having braxton hicks last night!! Anyone else had that yet? I read you can get them as early as 16 weeks!!

Carlitawantsabauble · 29/12/2011 17:28

Good news re iron kiki, glad that's all it was. I'm veggie too, do they do the extra tests for everyone?
Yes broody, I've been having Braxton hicks for 3/4 weeks now, my aqua natal instructor explained how they felt so I started noticing them, most people put them down to baby doing a big turn but basically lower bump goes hard for a few seconds? She also told us to stop what we're doing when they happen and breathe deeply as the more oxygen you can get to the area at that moment the more toning benefit you'll get from the contraction. Smile

KikiRC · 29/12/2011 19:20

Thanks, both. I was taking Pregnacare before (or the Superdrug equivalent) and when I had my first blood test the levels were fine, but I was a bit slack in taking them recently- Carlita- if you're veggie too I'd recommend something similar & avoid the iron tablets if you can- the first one made me feel really queasy this morning. Broody- my mum has warned me they turn your poo black! I don't think they do those extra tests if your normal bloods look fine.

I've had BH for a good couple of months, yes- around 16 weeks- the bump suddenly goes rock hard & you can feel the outline of the uterus very clearly- literally like I've swallowed a ball!

Carlitawantsabauble · 29/12/2011 23:39

I'm still taking pregnacare kiki so fingers crossed! Smile

KikiRC · 30/12/2011 12:02

I think that should be fine, Carlita- and lots of aloo sag for safety! Trust me, the iron tablets aren't great...

knitterati · 30/12/2011 17:05

Also, if you have a glass of orange juice with your aloo sag, the vit C is meant to help iron absorption. Smile

Wondering if I'm getting low iron - I've been so tired lately (could also be 3rd trimester tired I guess)?

broodylicious · 30/12/2011 19:07

Evening all! Had my 28 week appt with the MW today. My mum came with me as I wanted to give her the opportunity to hear the heartbeat (made her v happy!) All was good - glad to get that NAD again - and heartbeat and movements strong.

But... MW is actually not great. She didn't ask if I was feeling ok, whether I'd had any funny/weird turns, whether sickness had stopped, how active was baby, any aches/pains, still no advice on ante natal classes etc.... Now maybe its just me but aren't they supposed to at least pretend they're bothered about our health?! Especially as D day is only 12 weeks away now! Just feel a bit disappointed by it all tbh as I'd kind of had this romantic notion that we'd get on well and there'd be some kind of relationship there - she's supposed to be someone I can trust/confide in etc after all isn't she?

Carlitawantsabauble · 30/12/2011 22:26

My experience is exactly the same broody. MW has never asked me how I am, it's odd, I thought that would be a standard question as it would help to monitor physical and mental health and flag potential problems. I wondered whether it is a time issue? We could probably all talk about how we've been feeling for quite some time and their appointments are quite short, I think maybe they avoid it so as not to get too involved? Odd though, you do imagine you'll build some sort of relationship.
Good point knitterati re orange juice, I had forgotten that.

KikiRC · 31/12/2011 09:52

I feel quite lucky that my MW is really nice and always asks how everything is going. Because of a pre-existing medical condition I see her every six weeks, so have had a bit more time than most. She's very rushed though and that does affect things- i.e. every time I have to remind her that she needs to send my urine sample to the lab (and twice she has forgotten). Also, I've been the one who has asked about the Mat1B form etc, she didn't mention it at all. I think because I've read up a lot & because my dad is a retired GP who specialised in obstetrics, and I've had quite a bit of experience of hospitals as an outpatient, I'm fairly clued up and confident with everything and know what to ask and roughly what to expect, but the infrastructure is pretty shaky to say the least- I had terrible trouble trying to organise my booking-in appt, which was quite stressful & it's not clear at first how to go about making appointments with the consultant & how that's fed back etc- they do expect you to know all those things. I've found all the individuals involved really nice & helpful, it's the chaotic system that's the problem.

Carlitawantsabauble · 31/12/2011 10:45

Yes, I'm so glad I've done a lot of reading and have such a clued up mum. I'd be near to clueless if just relying on the system! Smile
What are everyone's plans for tonight? We're having 4 friends and an extra dog round to ours and plan to get a take away, have some drinks and play some games. Will hook up with my sister, her DP, the twins and 2 friends for part of the evening too as they live 2 minutes away. Should be nice. Even when not pg we don't go out for NYE, I find it irritating to have to queue and shout in pubs and found in the past it is rather anti climactic (though tbf haven't done it in at least 7 years!) usually we hire a cottage somewhere with a bunch of friends but what with moving and baby funds are somewhat limited this year! Grin

broodylicious · 31/12/2011 12:12

Kiki - omg, that is shocking that you have to remind the MW to send your samples to the lab!! I would be so stressed if I had to do that!! I also go more regularly to see her every four weeks due to my sister having high blood pressure when she was pregnant (even though mine is good!) I've nothing against the MW herself - she's lovely - and I am sure that time and resources are so restrictive on all medical professionals and I know I'm not the only preggo on her books... But I don't think that should stop advice or asking questions about my health?

I'm also mega into reading about what should be happening now, what aches and pains are normal and what blood tests will be looking for etc and I think that's the only thing that's helping me tbh - and you ladies, of course Smile I'm just hoping NCT classes will help us fill any blanks I've not read or heard!

Wordweaver · 31/12/2011 12:42

Hello, hope everyone had a good Christmas?

I had my blood test results through - iron and sugar levels are all fine, and I have no antibodies, but they gave me the anti-D injection anyway as I knew they would. DH came with me, which was lovely. It was one of the sorest injections I've had, but after about five minutes the soreness had gone - not like some travel injections that destroy your entire arm for 24 hours.

I'm vegetarian too, but they didn't check anything different because of that.

Best news is that my PGP has - for now at least - disappeared. I have had almost no pain at all for about two weeks. I am so happy just to feel normal again! Some evenings I feel a bit stiff at the end of the day, but nothing like what it was - I was in tears with the pain before. Not sure what has improved it, but the things I did differently were:

  1. Started sleeping with a pillow between my legs.
  2. Did the exercises that the physio gave me four times a day.
  3. Started pregnancy pilates.

So one or all of those obviously made a difference.

Anyway, happy new year's eve to everyone - 2012 is going to be quite a year!
