Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Busyalexsmummy · 24/11/2005 15:51

Afternoon all, still here! still feel quite bad, but marginally better than yesterday so am hoping that the antibiotics are working...

Still dont know what to do about next tuesday, I really dont want to be induced again as it was so horrific last time, but dont want to be pg/in labour on my birthday...also, if I do wait longer, how long do I wait?? and how big is this baby going to be when it eventually arrives???
I just dont know what to do.........

chacha-lol at emotions, what do you do!?!

SS-sorry to hear about your tooth, I thought you get free dental treatment when pregnant? or is that only if your with nhs dentist? is there not a emergency nhs dentist near you? they may be able to do a one off treatment for you??

L 5 bloomin DOD......

sarahsausage · 24/11/2005 15:51

Sooooo good to be home. DD a lot calmer here and good to know dp is only 20 mins away should i need him!

MIL has private dentist, she says he is very expensive. Will try after xmas, really dont have anything to spare at the moment.

Hopefully dp will be working locally next week so i'll be around to keep you company should you (hope you dont!!) go over your dates, chacha!

sarahsausage · 24/11/2005 15:53

x post busy.

Its only nhs dentist that give pregnant women free treatment unfortunately .

ChaCha · 24/11/2005 16:03

Busy - You're sounding in much better spirits today! Good for you Totally understand your concerns, my fingers are crossed for you.

SS - Here's hoping that next week is another story altogether! For all of us! Can you believe next weeks sees the first week of December!!! Oooohhh!

I'm going to ask a really silly question, but if you have no REAL signs of labour, can they just come on at the drop of a hat? I mean can your waters just break/have a show when you least expect it...

Time to eat again. I fear this baby will arrive with fajita in hand.

ChaCha · 24/11/2005 19:31

Oh Hi Chacha, so you're still here then?

Well, just checking in...

novadandypowder · 24/11/2005 19:46

Hi Chacha

My labour came at the drop of a hat, if thats any consolation??

I'm guessing it's a bit better to be waiting for baby when the weather's like this, than in the middle of summer?

Try to keep cheerful

KristinaM · 24/11/2005 19:47

I'm still here chacha. But I'm also going slightly mad as well

ChaCha · 24/11/2005 20:25

Hi Nova Yeah, you're quite right! Brrrr...
Am still concerned about how to keep the rooms at the right temperature all winter..guess i'm just paranoid. Oh, and yup, great consolation! I just keep waiting for a sign, lol. Saddo!!

Kristina ... glad you're still posting. I like my MN breaks, and they're v.boring when you click on link to find you're the last person that posted (and hours before too!)

It seems that it's DH's turn to nest tonight!!! He is v.busy arranging everything upstairs. Perhaps he knows something I don't?

Busyalexsmummy · 24/11/2005 22:04

Grrrr, bl**dy families......Ive been not answering the phone since monday A) because My throat feels like sandpaper+ears feel like theyve been hit really hard B)because Im sick of people ringing."have you had it yet??".....err...no...when I do i'll ring FGS!"!!!
my sister has rang nearly everyday this week and is doing my head in, she rang yesterday at 9.35pm, when Id gone for a bloomin lie down as my head was pounding, but she rings about 2-3 times, straight after the other.....
she has rang twice tonight(again ringing about 3 times, letting it go to answer machine and hanging up and ringing again) and Ive text her and politely said Id ring her at the weekend as Im not really up for chatting due to throat+ear infection- what does she dobloody rings again, at 9.55pm on my mobile, expecting me to answer it FFSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Am I over reacting? If my friend had an ear+throat infection, I would presume she may have sore ears+sore throat-not a great combi for chatting on the phone....so I would text instead.....am I right??!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I cant stand my sister, she p*sses me right off

  • the fact, im heavily pregnant+with toddler to look after all day and she thinks im goin to answer the phone at 9.55pm!???? not bloomin likely........grrr.silly *

sorry, really needed to get that off my chest

KristinaM · 25/11/2005 08:16

hey BAM, how are you feeling? Did you get some sleep despite your sister ?

chacha, sarah? Are you there? Karma - you must have some news for us now? Alice?

I'm off to hospital for appointment and hopefully a membrane sweep. Just shows you how desperate i am, that i woudl "hope" for a sweep [yuck emoticon]

sarahsausage · 25/11/2005 09:20

Yep still here!

Know what you mean about the sweep kristina, when midwife told me at last appt that she wasnt sure if i could have one having had a section last time, you should have seen the look horror on my face!! Anything to get things moving without haveing to be induced!!

Going to look at a house in 20 mins, just been refurbished, in a nice quiet village, central heating etc etc, cant wait, hope its as nice as it looks in the pictures.

Well, will run up and down te stairs a couple of times try get things moving!!

Busy you arent being unreasonable and can understand why you are mad, and i would be too!! Sounds like your sister is excited about baby. Mine isnt so excited as shes just had a little girl 6 weeks ago.

Right better get ready to go, thats if my clothes are dry yet!

Sarah 4 days to go

ChaCha · 25/11/2005 10:44

Morning

Good luck with appt Kristina, I hope you get your sweep. Let us know.

Busy, Yup - It sounds like you have an over excited family member. Hope you got some sleep and are resting.

SS - House sounds promising. Fingers crossed for you.

Today we are going to tackle the bathroom floor and fit the bedroom carpet (rest of upstairs can wait), assemble a much needed 5th wardrobe and try to finish all the odd jobs. Amazing what we have accumulated over the past 4 years!!

ChaCha
ONE DAY TO GO

rodeo1 · 25/11/2005 11:17

Chacha, in answer to your question, I think if the temp in your house is comfortable for you, not too cold or warm, then it will be fine for baby. Although they do feel the cold a lot quicker. Oh and don't put their crib right next to direct heat like a radiator or heater - although I'm sure you know that already You'll be fine anyway - you'll get that maternal 6th sense when he's born!

Not that I can talk really - Jess is in bed with us at nights at the mo!

Diege · 25/11/2005 12:52

ChaCha, if it's any help we've got oil heaters in the bedrooms with thermostats - that way it can never get too hot or cold. They've been a real god-send with all 3, and are fairly cheap from Argos (they can deliver) - about £30, though I've just sent off for a cheapie one (£20) with Argos, but think it may be a 'clicker' (having a plug in a socket keeps me awake - I'm one of those mad people who can hear the 'buzz' of the electricity and the red LCD on the radio keeps me awake!).
Hope it's not too long for everyone now!!!
Diege

ChaCha · 25/11/2005 13:54

Thanks ladies, appreciate the advice. Diege and Rodeo, hope your little ones are well and happy.

Went out for an hour and it was really cold again. Am quite happy to potter around (or waddle I shoud say) indoors - am really feeling the cold this year which is strange as I shd be used to sitting in cold train stations waiting to get home from work. Freezing here!

Getting lots of calls/texts now to ask if baby is on its way and lots of jumpy sounding 'hellos?' when I call anyone! Am convincing myself it really can't be long as I'm very tired although active and really feel too heavy.

Am so looking forward to meeting this baby. Still can't believe there will be one here..just can't imagine it. Also, did most of you opt to have the baby cleaned first or did you hold it straight away? Is this an option with C-sec as well? Do most babies stay awake a while once born or are they prone to sleep? Silly questions I know but I'm ignorant! Or are all babies different in that sense?
I know it will be hard but I just can't wait to wrap up under duvet and sleeeeeep again! Even just for an hour....bliss.

Okay, well i'm keeping the thread alive here. Where is everyone else?

tessasmum · 25/11/2005 14:31

Hello ChaCha - nearly there now

I had Tessa delivered onto my chest and she was very sticky - vernex, some blood and then she pooed all down my arm but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Feeling the weight of her on me made it all very real and I was captivated from then on.
Ash was delivered, via the midwife's arms, onto the floor and I was able to turn round and pick him up. In contrast he came out almost completely clean, just had some vernex in his hair which we washed out the next day.
As for sleeping - I think babies are programmed to stay wide awake for the first few hours after birth, taking it all in and allowing you to fall completely under their spell. They then sleep for ages. That's what I remember reading somewhere and it certainly happened with both of mine (writing that last bit still doesn't seem real, I really do have two children!)

Busy - wasn't it your sister who gave you a really hard time last time? I know someone did though I don't know the details. I'd have been b**y furious if anyone did that to me now, without feeling ill, so you have every right to go ballistic.
Hope the antibiotics are taking effect.

Best wishes to everyone else still waiting.

KristinaM · 25/11/2005 14:32

thats me back from the hospital. Cant believe it takes all morning.Good news is I got my sweep ( done by a very sympathetic and gentle MW) & I have had a show alreday and i can go back for another sweep on Tuesday.

Bad news is they will not induce me until a week on Tuesday, at term +13. They wont consider it before term +10 and they have no spaces then!!!

sarah - how was the house?

Chacha - hows teh DIY going? Not sure you shoudl be doing teh bathroom floor......

I cant really believe that i will have another baby soon, either!! I think that if your baby is Ok they will just wrap him in a towel and give him to you straight away. Unless they have to clear his airway or anything like that . Unless you ask for him to be cleaned first of course. I think its teh same with a Cs. You CAN ask that the baby isnt taken away for weighing or measuring - they can do all that later.

AFAIK most babies are quite alert after birth, esp with a normal delivery.Mine just lay there in my arms and looked up at me as if to say " oh so thats what you look like!!! I've been hearing you and feeling you for all these months...."

Maybe I should add that I didnt get that big "rush of love" feeling that people decsribe, or any great sense of achievement. i just felt a bit shell shocked and very light headed and hungry. Dont think this means i am any less bonded with my children.

Busyalexsmummy · 25/11/2005 16:15

chacha-I had ds delivered straight onto me, but only for a minute, then they took him off to weigh him etc, which I wasnt pleased about and will be making myself clear this time(it was a production line at that hossie). Babies are usually(if there is nothing wrong with them) very alert straight after delivery and you will be way too alert too to be going to sleep, that said ds was born at 2.43am and by 6am was snuggled down asleep and probably wouldnt of woken up for 24hrs if I hadnt bathed him at 8am! hehe horrid mummy!

tessasmum-yes, it was my sister who dragged me off round the tourist attractions with ds and her partner when ds was 2 weeks old!?! she really doesnt have a clue, the other day-get this-(she has no kids)she compared childbirth to her having had toncillitis+having her tonsils out-yeah bloody right!!!!!! whatever! I nearly broke out in flames when I heard that comment grr

Antibiotics seem to be working although still cant breath through nose! feel sooooooo much better than I did mon/tue/wed though so thats good

kristina-Glad you got your sweep and having a show is a good sign that it was worthwhile. As for induction, you'll find nowhere like to do it before +10 as this is considered optimmum(sp?) time for induction, inductions are not generally carried out before this due to the high amount of failed inductions(-which can lead to c/secs etc). Are you overdue yet? I hope the 2nd sweep works for you if nothing before then, my 2nd is monday morning, then I have to decide wether i want to go in on tuesday for induction-eeeeeekkk!

I also have to agree with you on the "big rush of love thing" I felt very shocked, very exhausted, lightheaded and sick, theres plenty of time for bonding without feeling like your supposed to fall instantly in love at first sight, most people (or at least I did) feel much more human and able to start bonding once you've had a wash/something to eat/a sleep etc
Likewise I dont think it made any difference to my bonding with ds.

ChaCha · 25/11/2005 17:59

Thanks for the info ladies. Has all been stored in my pea brain!

Kristina - A show? That's promising then isn't it? Hopefully you won't need to wait for any induction..

Well, I'm due tomorrow. So here's hoping!!

KristinaM · 25/11/2005 19:37

Hi girls, trying not to get too hopeful as I had the same thing last time - a sweep, a show and cramps for the rest of the day. Then....nothing.

But if it weren't for you BAM I woulndt have thought to ask for another sweep next week. They seemed Ok about this. Today I am term+2, they will do another one on Tuesday, term+6, then induce me the next tues at term+13.

Like you i am desperate not to be induced and scared of having another big ( for me)baby and lots of stiches. Dr said that baby's weight gain slows down after 40 weeks so waiting til later doenst necessarily mean baby will be a lot bigger than he is now. Not sure if I'm convinced though......

Poor Dh is exhausted having to be like an Italian...

Chacha - apparently only 5% of babies come on their due date but none of the Nov mums have yet, so it might be YOU (big purple finger)

No news yet from Karma?????? I'm getting worried that things may have not gone smoothly as i thought she'd be home by now.....

sarahsausage · 25/11/2005 21:05

Evening,

House was beautiful, though not practical at all. I fell in love with it as soon as i walked in but theres no chance i could live there with 2 small children. Oh well, back to looking. Sure i'll find something eventually!

No sign of baby coming whatsoever. Am very fed up now. Have had clown feet for the past 2 weeks, hands swollen also but no other problems. Hope they go down soon.

Off for a greasy takeaway

Busyalexsmummy · 25/11/2005 23:14

Just wanted to let you know that Ive set up a yahoo group for us, I know someone on mumsnet posted about a group or something similar a while back, but I wasnt keen on that idea as photos etc of my children are precious to me and I dont want them getting into the wrong hands or anything so this way this group can be used by all of us that have participated on this thread and that"know" each other to a degree.
I can only accept by invite as I made it a restricted group (ie only invited members can join, not just anybody) so anyone whos intrested in joining just CAT me and we can start building the group and getting pics up etc!

SharonTW · 26/11/2005 03:49

Had a little boy on Tuesday well 8lb 14oz !!
Had a long labour as he was back to back and wouldn't move after 36 hours and threat of c section he popped out after just 30 minutes of pushing and was born at 15:30
some mucle tears and a swelling I can't say name of thay threatened to take me back to theatre to drain and re-stitch but then didn't thank God
still was awake for 45 hours and didn't eat for most of at as theatre beckoned, feeling very tired and weak and little Sam feeds every 2 hours so I'm a bit of a wreck at the mo.
Saying that he is perfect and gorgeous and feeds and sleeps thankfully.
All will feel a hundred times better when I can do a little more for myself
Will post a piccie as soon as I can
