Hope she bought one of the versions nickel?

I'm fed up. Ordered my maternity cossie on Friday, have been expecting it to arrive all week and then got an email this afternoon to say they have sold out of my size. Pissed off as it was the only one that looked vaguely the right shape/style that didn't cost over £30 and didn't involve couriers coming to home whilst I'm at work, gah! Hmm And my pre-pg one is getting s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d to buggery and I don't want to ruin it.

Rant over! Grin

Glad DH treating you TTL Smile

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 14:58

nope, she didn't.
(story of my life :( )

that's annoying.
won't be long till I have to sort out mine.
although, I do have a cossie that's alweays been a little bit too big for me that might work for the moment(but it's a high-leg, and I might not like that)

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 15:35

Did you tell her what you told us nickel? (i.e, 'What the fuck is wrong with the Ladybird version?'). Maybe that's why you didn't get the sale Grin Grin

Just been for lunch with a friend which cost £30!!! I wanted to buy new curtains for the baby's room but they're £60 and we can't afford it, but considering I've spent £50 on two lunches this week I should have stayed at home and bought the curtains. Lucky the builder hasn't asked to be paid yet, as I'm spending all his money at a rate of knots ...

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 15:47

I didn't. Grin
maybe I should have done!

£30!!!! Shock

in contrast, I paid £155 on my credit card and put £35 in coins into my current account.
(the credit card balance is currently at about £8,500, so that made a huge dent in the debt Hmm )

KateeTheBump · 22/06/2011 15:52

£8,500! eeek! Wouldn't it be cheaper to have a mortgage? What is your interest rate? ouch.

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 16:20

it would be.
tried to get a loan, but because my business bank account is at another bank, I don't have enough money passing through my bank account to prove I have enough to pay it off.
so i have to use the credit card because it's the only way of having any cash flow.

I'm in total shit.
I have never been so worried about money in my life .
and there is no way out, because if I closed down, I'd still have to pay the rent until the end of the term. (which is another 2.5 years)
and i'd come out with nothing, because stock in a closing down sale sells for almost nothing.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/06/2011 16:27

I use paypal to pay my CC. How rock and roll am I? (it's in Australia, still paying off my prechild life!).

ERgh I'm being distracted by fanjo discomfort. I wish it would turn into something exciting (ie Labour) or just bugger off!

Cossie? You talking about for swimming? I'm to scared to go swimming encase my waters or show go in the pool Blush I would LOVE to go swimming right now (like the hippo I am). Grr on your behalf Katee.

Ohh Nickel that sucks. Next time I'm in the market for kids books I'll remember to look up your website. Which reminds me, do you stock In The Night Kitchen, by Maurice Sendak? I can't even get it at my local library.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 16:32

can't use Payapl to do it cos there's not enough going in there either - i normally keep money in it from the shop's website, to pay for goods and carrier bags etc, but i've had to withdraw some to attempt to get enoug hfor the rent.

waters and show wouldn't show in the pool Grin
it's about the only time you could get away with it.....

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 16:33

I do have In the night kitchen in stock (now in my hands)
it's £5.99
if you ring me, I can do it over the phone by card (debit if you prefer! Grin ) and post it to you tomorrow morning....

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 22/06/2011 16:40

Need to pay the In-Laws back first (then all the bills) and see how much money is left over. But if an order comes in for Scotland, you'll know who it is Wink

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 16:48

okay.
Grin
(i can't put it on the website for you, though, because my distributor's out of stock and i don't want to risk someone else wanting it!)

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 17:00

Aww nickel I know what it's like to worry about money. Tell us the name of your shop again and I'll make sure to recommend it to all my baby-making, child-bearing friends :)

Aren't you in Sittingbourne? You could contact the Uni of Kent and do book launches for academics with relevant books to plug. They also have some creative writing professors there I think (and definitely plenty of Lit faculty) who might give talks for free and things, especially if they're on child-related topics? Quite a lot of academics are expected to do outreach work now and might be persuaded to put on an event (at the expense of the uni) which might draw people in.

Have you contacted local literary agencies? I used to work for one and again, they're always on the look out for venues and things for their authors to do talks and readings - especially children's authors who don't make that much money for their books and for whom a few sales is always worth it.

I'm sure you've thought about all that kind of thing - I seem to remember you doing things with local schools too? - and I'm sure you're too busy right now with the baby coming, anyway - but I think it's fantastic you've got a bookshop for children in Sittingbourne and I'm sure you can get it flying soon :)

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 17:01

PS, I forgot, I only came on here to say I lost my mucous plug! Disgusting, I know, but exciting :) A whole new level of pant snot Grin

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 17:06

ooooooooh! mucous plug gone! Shock
that's realyl exiting! Grin

hmm, uni of kent tend to stuff with canterbury though (this with the problem is sittingbourne's a bit of a hole.... )
I do events every now and then, but noone ever comes to them.
(oh, I'm so defeatist)
the schools tend to get their own authors in, and if they come to an event (the only way i can get a guaranteed audience) they very rarely buy anything.
the number of times I've had comments from the teachers/helpers "oh, i didn't realise that you would be selling the books, we explicity told the parents not to send money" Hmm

Ooh TTL exciting about the pant snot (how long is it since we've been able to say that??)

Nickel [hugs] re all the money troubles. Wish I could tell you it will all work out and be fine.

Have been making some progress on the report writing. Have now done 30/40 of them (not all today!). But I always leave the difficult ones til last - the ones where I want to be honest but have to find cheery positive ways of saying X can be a real brat when he/she wants to be!
MN and Wimbledon are really really bad for my productivity!

KateeTheBump · 23/06/2011 08:26

Is the race on? Grin
