Cheaptrick · 04/08/2011 10:24

Its my 20 week scan but i'm 22 weeks pg today at 3.30pm. We are going to find out if its a girl or boy as we already have a 2 yo son. We are taking son to the scan so we can find out together as a family Smile

I'm so nervous and excited, i hope the baby plays nice and shows us Grin

jomouse · 04/08/2011 10:48

No on Katie Price.
Obviously don't know her personally but I see very little there to admire apart from naked (literally) ambition and drive, which I still don't feel are attractive personality traits...
I have started getting numb hands and pins needles, especially at night. Think this could be bloody carpel tunnel, I was having such an easy ride of this pregnancy too. Darnit. Anyone else have experience of this?

I love the McD'd milkshake idea, I may adopt it Awomancalledhorse, I also second the idea for msbuggy - tell 'em you'll call her Keith and buy her toy rifles (that may make them realise that they are being a bit silly)! And congrats on being half way there - it's a lovely but scary thought, isn't it?
Good luck with the scan cheaptrick! My scan department are very strict about how many can go into the scan room, and kids aren't allowed. When i was there last time, a young Asian lady was alone with her 3 yr old son and they were really harsh with her. The poor woman was on her own, she evidently needs support not chastisement! Grrrr!

mopsytop · 04/08/2011 11:58

mrsbuggy why are your PIL being like this? What difference does it make to them if it's a girl? very strange! People can be so odd.

I also sometimes call it the parasite too Oimissus I think it's funny. Anyway, it essentially is a parasite!!!

msbuggywinkle · 04/08/2011 12:33

They prefer boys. No idea why, neither of my girls are very stereotypically 'girly' however much pink and princessy nonsense PIL try to shove down their throats. You'd think they would like that my DDs prefer running like mad people round the garden and climbing, but nooooooooo.

Related to their general attitude towards women, they are horrified that DP does housework ('but he works!!!'), refer to me as MrsDP's name when I'm actually Ms myname-hisname and only really approve of me at all because I'm a SAHM.

mopsytop · 04/08/2011 12:40

Ha I hate that. As if you don't work! Hate the attitude that SAHM don't work. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

What a shame that they can't just be happy to have healthy, happy grandkids instead of wanting boys.

lalababy · 04/08/2011 13:25

Mrsbuggy... I read an article a while ago regarding sisters and how out of all sibling combinations they are the closest and most supportive (and being sisters... I can agree!). And you and your DP are happy and that is what matters. Your PIL just sound super old fashioned where they think that boys are better and that women should do all the housework etc! Best to ignore their negativity... you really don't need it!

Plus... what do they mean you don't work... you are providing lots of BF support and guidance for a number women (online) who really need it :)

Oimissies I am addicted to this site too! So any news about selling the place? As for the parasite... some people just don't get good humour!

Bluebells The secretary is just a moron. I am 5'7 too weighed about 9st and have put on a stone too! So she obviously clueless. Angry

Seven sorry about the scan... hopefully all will be revealed soon

Awomancalledhorse you make me giggle... I reckon Mickey D milkshakes would be easier too. And Katie Price... Hmm knows best about what... boobjobs?

Anyway... I am having my scan tomorrow... can't wait!!!

Mrsxstitch · 04/08/2011 13:57

msbuggy some of my XH's family stopped talking to me when dd was born because she was a girl. They are twats though.

Its a much better temperature today, the heat yesterday was affecting my breathing.

OiMissus · 04/08/2011 15:27

My bump is looking quite big this week, unfortunately it is being cancelled out by the growth of my bottom. It's incredible bloody alarming how big it seems to have grown in the past few days!
From the front I look quite neat, but from the side it's a different story!
Anyone else noticed exploding derrieres?
(Exploding in size only, I add! Yikes!)

mopsytop · 04/08/2011 15:29

yes me! It is SCARY. I have a SHELF. I kid you not. Is v. depressing :(

BluebellsintheSpring · 04/08/2011 15:34

Thanks! Over the whole secretary today - firmly back in perspective! I was just caught off guard but will be ready for her next time!

Msbuggywinkle try not to let the PIL get you down. Happy, healthy baby - what a blessing! Oh and thanks for the yoga pants tip - I'm a proud new owner of a pair today! Will wear them to my lovely yoga class tonight and will then not take them off for about a week - they are sooo comfy!

Living vicariously through everyone's else's finding out if it's a boy/girl! Can't wait to hear your news cheaptrick. Hope everyone is having a lovely day!

plupervert · 04/08/2011 16:42

That secretary doesn't know when to shut up, does she, Bluebell? Now let's hope she takes the chance to make it up to you! Grin

Meanwhile, those PIL (can't believe there is more than one lot of PIL who do this!) should also learn to shut up about their silly ideas. I have heard about people being taken aback when they learn the sex of a not-yet-born child, but to carry it on when they are actually alive and kicking, is heartless.

Awomancalledhorse · 04/08/2011 17:13

OiMissus...You asked for it; my thighs chafe when I walk. It's been getting worse because of this stupid heat wave (stopped raining, back to being muggy here) and my arse is bloody huge, DH has noticed all this extra Me as he keeps telling me to budge over in bed, and I think I can hear the memory foam part of the mattress scream when I lie down.

mopsy, looking forward to when I can balance bowls of food on stomach..although our kitchen tap is high & far back on the counter and I already have to stand sideways to use it so maybe growing more is not so good.

Good luck tomorrow lala!

I guess now is too early, as my boobies have loads of growing to do, but when is the 'right' time to start looking at nursing bras?
And really stoopid first timer question, are my boobs going to shrink as fast as they're growing whilst bf?

Cheaptrick · 04/08/2011 18:12

Had scan. Everything looks good but they could not see the tummy or cord as the baby was cuddling up to the placenta. Its a Girl and we are going to call her Hope Frances Smile

I have already been to mamas and papas and spent £100 on pink clothes and a pink blanket, i think its going to cost alot having a girl Blush

We are all really happy and so are our families. On my side they have 6 grandsons and now a granddauther Smile

OiMissus · 04/08/2011 18:44

cheaptrick your post makes me smile smile smile - how lovely - I'm really pleased for you! And a lovely choice of name!
awomancalledhorse your post made me laugh out loud! Thighs R Us!
By the way, I bought maternity bras that are also nursing bras - just in case they still fit down the line. And I think it's the luck of the draw, some of us will keep our huge bosums, some will fall away to sad flaps of saggy skin, and some of us will get something in between. ...and in the future, some of us who said we'd NEVER EVER consider cosmetic surgery, may find ourselves toying with the idea. Sad

sevendwarves · 04/08/2011 20:26

cheaptrick congratulations! Hope is lovely btw.

msbuggy sorry if tmi but my nipples look a bit whitish in the middle, does this mean I'm going to start leaking soon?

Shopping went well earlier. We got this gorgeous pramsuit which has made me feel much better about not knowing the sex. We also got a sleepsuit, changing mat, towels, dummies, nappies and some organic baby shampoo.

msbuggywinkle · 04/08/2011 20:48

seven might do! Not everyone leaks during pregnancy, some women get just milk residue, some no evidence of milk at all. Amazing how clever our bodies are though, getting ready so early on to feed babies!

General recommendation is to get nursing bras as late on as possible. What will happen is that some time between day 3 and 5 (usually, sometimes a bit longer/shorter) your milk will come in and you will probably get engorged between feeds, particularly if you have a baby who feeds less frequently. It settles down quite quickly though providing the baby is breast feeding well, then you will be able to get a more accurate size when you feel ready.

My colostrum is in too, DD2's poos are terrifying! (colostrum has a mild laxative effect) After DD2 was born, DD1 went back to exclusive bfing for 2 months...imagine toddler sized newborn style poos! It was scary! At least this time I won't have 2 in nappies.

OiMissus · 05/08/2011 08:38

Morning all!
Yippee - it's Friday! 23 weeks for me today - that's 57.5% there - if 40 weeks is the term.
Have a great day everyone, and good luck with the scans/shopping/etc.
My favourite boys names today are (and they will change pn a daily basis):
Gabriel Flynn
Jude Gabriel
Maxwell Alistair

mopsytop · 05/08/2011 09:33

Friday - yay! Scan on Monday, can't wait. But first off on a nice weekend away, yippee! I am even going to have a bellini tonight in the cocktail lounge in the hotel we are staying at - can't wait! Have only had the very odd drink since pregnant, so really going to enjoy it! They have rhubarb bellinis! Is it sad to be so excited about having a drink?!

sevendwarves · 05/08/2011 09:54

Hope you have a lovely weekend away mopsy, enjoy that bellini while you aren't enormous enough to get deathstares for having one drink!

I tend not to drink at all when I'm pregnant, although I had a very enjoyable glass of champagne at a wedding in June. I've already told DH if I go overdue and I'm still pregnant at Christmas I will be having a glass of wine!

Hope everyone is having a good day. My hoover just broke and I've spent all my money on baby things yesterday!

OiMissus · 05/08/2011 09:58

Nope. Not sad at all. Because we are being very good and NOT drinking, I see it as a well-earned treat. Something special.
I decided to treat myself to a martini rosso on Wednesday, but then I couldn't drink it. :( The first sip was delicious, but I couldn't manage much more. I hope you have more luck with your Bellini.
A couple of times when I've been out, I've had virgin cocktails, and they are definitely treats because they are usually as expensive as the non-virgin variety. Why??!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 05/08/2011 10:09

Morning ladies,

Cheaptrick Good to see your scan went well & congrats on having a girl.

Mopsy Have a good weekend away and enjoy your drink.

Seven Love the pramsuit you've brought. Shame your hoover had to break today!

Well I have a chesty cough that is driving me nuts! Was 20 weeks pregnant yesterday so officially half way there woohoo. Scan on weds and really looking forward to that esp as DD doesn't know shes coming along - just hope they let her in. I think they will.

Not looking forward to spending my anniversary on my own. However, will be popping upto mums tomorrow and going to make some more of my wedding invites - which will be good.

My mind tells me that we are having another girl - won't know for sure till baby is born tho.

Mrsxstitch · 05/08/2011 10:39

I am 22 weeks today :), definitely past half way.

I can't get to see my MW for another 2 weeks so work are going to go crazy about not having my Matb1 form yet. HR take forever to do anything but if they want you to do anything they want it yesterday.

figgygal · 05/08/2011 10:40

22 weeks today have my follow up scan this afternoon and hopefully they can see everything they need to, maternity leave forms are complete and going in next week, last day 25th November then 2 weeks leave the last day of which is due date, hoping baby not early which might be wishful thinking but if he is and triggers maternity leave earlier so be it at least still gives me more time after he is here.

lalababy · 05/08/2011 10:48

Morning everyone... I just had my scan today.. and she said everything looks good! And ofcourse I found out and it is a boy :)

DH was super thrilled... and I am really glad that everything is good... but I was a little sad. Blush (I KNOW, I AM HORRIBLE!) It is just that I had these dreams of frilly dresses, bows, dolls and play kitchens.

Anyway as long as I have a happy baby... plus it will be a while before he watches formula 1, rugby and football all the time.... (right?) :)
