My letter said to drink 1-2 pints of fluid an hour before the appointment. I just had a 500ml bottle of water and a little out of a second one but it was probably a bit much (for me), my bladder was really full.

Pictures in my hospital are £2 each or 3 for £5. I got 3 but they are all the same, really good photo though and on much better quality paper than the ones I got free in my past pregnancies so I didn't mind paying.

jomouse · 01/06/2011 10:50

Hello ladies,

This is probably going to send really dense, but has anyone started doing pelvic floor exercises and the like yet? I found a few videos on You Tube but doesn't say when to start and how often we should do them for.
Any experienced Mum's or clued up first timers know what we have to do?

hiya everyone - i posted last night to mark my place but it seemsto have dissapeared into cyber space some where!

so lovely to hear of all these great scans, puts a great big :) on my face.

and to those who didnt have good news, i am thinking of you all xx

i finally have my scan date (after being fed up of waiting i rang up, and they hadnt even looked at my referal yet - my booking in was on the 12th may - its a good job me and dp have opted not to have the nuchal anyway!) friday 10th at quater to four - i will be around fourteen weeks by then i think! i cant wait!

mouse, i cant remember, but i suppose the sooner you start the better? i waited until afterwards with DD, but i was younger then and everything sprang back into shape within a few days! alas, i fear for this pregnancy' i already am like a beached whale in maternity bits and i think everything is more likely to sag even more out of shape rather than spring into it! but i dont care Grin im having a baby!!!

UntamedShrew · 01/06/2011 12:27

I had my scan last week and it was lovely to see the baby wriggling around. We think he looks just like our first born, which was really funny.

Our hospital just asked for a donation, no suggestion by the tin so I put in £2. They gave us 6 pictures so I feel really tight now! The sonographer was lovely and very pleased to tell us that this time there was just the one in there :)

I am still feeling pukey too - roll on that glow.

I've got to start thinking about the delivery - another C Section or a VBAC? Really don't know what to do.

plupervert · 01/06/2011 12:47

jomouse, I don't think it's ever too early for pelvic floor exercises. I had quite a lot to do after DS Blush, so I cheated with a gadget (NO, not Ann Summers, but sending shocks through muscle as one squeezes - by no means very pleasant), but it can't be used while pregnant, so will have to revert to doing it the old fashioned way... a bit like doing proper exercise rather than using a Power Plate - damn! (would love to try a PP, by the way! It sounds like a fantastic way to cheat at boring exercise).

Some non-pregnancy, but excellent, news for us today: we have successfully reintroduced milk to DS, so he will be able to have cheese and real ice cream this summer. I am so happy for him! We went to the supermarket earlier today, and are planning a dairy binge - ice ream, chocolate, cheese (lasagne for lunch). Fan-tastic!

Cherrypi · 01/06/2011 13:56

Hi bump buddies. Just been to the supermarket and realised in the queue that everything I'd bought for myself was yellow. Anyone else going through a yellow/bland food phase?

plupervert · 01/06/2011 15:36

Nope, but lots of what I bought today was brown (chocolate for DS's endairiment!) Grin

If some of your yellow stuff was cheese, that's a very good move to be making instinctively! Bananas are also stuffed with lots of things which are good for you (though can bung you up). Melons? They're fantastically tasty and health giving...

msbuggywinkle · 01/06/2011 16:23

My sister was very into bland food while pregnant...I think she lived on various forms of potato!

I crave spicy foods and everything green.

zambooloo · 01/06/2011 19:17

Hello everyone, so glad to hear all the happy scan stories - mine is next Thursday (2 days after my 30th birthday), so nervous about it, I can't stop worrying! :(

On the food front, everything I eat is totally bland! My latest favourite are Laughing Cow cheese triangles. I eat them on a selection of bready things. Tonights dinner was a toasted cheese and ham sandwich but as usual I now have a huge stomach and feel very sick!

Well I've already had 1 sleep today (loving half term) and now thinking I'll probably have to lie down again in a minute. Does anyone else feel bad for their OH - I've left mine with washing up and now on his own all evening as I spend my life in bed!?

Bring on the glow!!!

BluebellsintheSpring · 01/06/2011 19:40

Hi Jomouse - I've started with the pelvic floor muscles - figure it can never be too early! Having said that, only do them when I remember which is a bit haphazard at the moment.

Plupervert - enjoy the dairy binge!

plupervert · 01/06/2011 20:06

Binge has been lovely, thanks! Smile

sevendwarves · 01/06/2011 21:17

I keep forgetting my pelvic floor exercises. I highly recommend them for afterwards, I'm convinced mine are better after having DS than they were beforehand!

My scan went really well earlier, baby was really active and the picture was really clear, much more so than with DS, either the hospital has had new scanners or poising weight has helped immensely. I thought I was 12+3 but they dated me at 11+1, I know I got my dates right though, must have been a very late implantation. My due date is now 20th December.

LittleMissFlustered · 01/06/2011 22:07

I'm booked in. New guidelines mean that all overweight folks have to have their notes flagged to a consultant, though the consultant will usually go through previous notes before demanding any appointments and such. My wish to be booked for the birthing centre got automatic veto, but the mat unit in the main hospital has most of the same facilities and staff will be willing to work with me with regards to intervention as long as I stay low risk within my supposedly high riskiness. Pfft.

I dumped the contents of the bounty packet as soon as I could. Stupid bumph.

Off to bed now, have promised the kids a day out tomorrow, though have just troughed their crisps, so may have to improvise the picnic a little :)

LittleMiss I hope that doesn't mean I won't be able to give birth in the birthing centre. I have the same issue. I am to be fair a good stone and a half overweight, but I am by no means unhealthy or unfit so it's a bit annoying. I am annoyed I didn't lose the weight before getting pregnant but I got pregnant the first month we tried so I was doing weightwatchers but didn't expect to be successful that fast! trying to be very healthy now but it's hard work some days!

thinkingpositive · 02/06/2011 08:46

Hi all, my scan is booked in for monday morning.... oooh getting excited yet as you all are nervous.
DH bought us a doppler, it arrived yesterday. So for the first time we heard our little ones heart beat. aaah, so excited!
With a previous mmc I've always been concerned but i feel so much better now.
Love hearing about the scans, Good luck to all of you for healthy pregnancies!!

msbuggywinkle · 02/06/2011 10:19

littlemiss a doctor cannot tell you where to give birth, they can only advise. The main risks for overweight women are the likelihood of diabetes and high blood pressure and a slight increased chance of shoulder dystocia. If you don't get GD and your blood pressure is normal there really isn't anything that should prevent you from giving birth in the birthing centre.

FWIW, with DD1 I weighed 15 stone and I'm 5'2 (I weigh 3 stone less now!) and was able to have the normal birth I wanted in the midwife led unit. For DD2's birth I weighed 13 stone and had an uncomplicated home birth.

www.aims.org.uk are very wonderful helpful people and there are some form letters on there which can help if you need back up!

ThePippy · 02/06/2011 10:29

littlemiss I agree with others, you should still be allowed to have the birth centre, you may just need to be more forceful. I have a BMI over 40 and while they don't recommend it, the midwife said that to be honest they can not refuse and that being overweight was not a serious reason not to use the birth centre. I think if the birth centre is a low risk only one (i.e. not attached to a hospital and therefore with no facilities for emergency C-section) they are allowed to say no. In my area there are 4 hospitals to choose from, 2 of which have low risk birth centres only, but a 3rd has a birth centre where the main labour ward is just downstairs should anything go wrong, which is the one I will hopefully be using. My midwife said that most of the risk of high BMI was pregnancy related, but that there was also a small risk in labour as sometimes overweight women have less effective uterus mucle so the contractions are not as good and intervention can be more likely. If it is your second or subsequent labours however and previous labours have been good (as in my case where the whole thing was just over 8hrs and completely natural) then they generally will see this labour risk as lower.

I would really push the point if I were you, I know from experience that I loved the birth centre experience and the brief time I had to go to the labour ward (because they were not willing for me to get in the pool until they had monitored baby for a while because I said I hadn't really feel baby move all day - mainly because I was in so much pain from very frequent and strong contractions) I have to say I hated it and I am sure it actually slowed my progress down being flat on my back strapped up to monitors.

jomouse · 02/06/2011 11:31

Woo hoo! I got given a seat on the tube this morning so definately showing now :)
Seemks a bit early but I'm in Week 14 now so not complaining, I am a small lass as well so I guess the bump is emphasised...
Either that or gigantababy is taking after his/her 6'5'' father....eeek!

Checking in am too but mainly on the december first timers thread in pregnancy. Had scan on tuesday and was made into a human pin cushion as i dont bleed easily both arms now bruised after the 2 midwives went at me with their varying sized needles. Eventually had to get it out of my hand before i passed out as had a funny 5 very disappointed in self am usually quite hard to it .

We got 3 pictures for the princely sum of £10 which wasnt very happy about but the money goes to equipment for the maternity unit i.e foetal monitors so handed it over a bit happier.

Have now told everyone i can think of family, friends, work and someone at work today told me i look pregnant i think i look like i have a bump today sure it will be gone tomorrow and it is just too many carbs but looks funny. Better get used to it i suppose.

OiMissus · 02/06/2011 13:27

Hi all,
Can I join the december club?! I had my first scan last week, I was trying to keep my bladder full but had to go to the toilet every 5 minutes that morning! And then to get the reading and make the baby move, I had to go and empty it again! The picture we were given was the worst view, rather than the amazing images we first saw of our baby. And the images cost £4 each - we bought 2, but it had to be the same one. Bolton, Lancs.
Due date December 2nd. :)
Hope you are all feeling well and healthy. My morning sickness has gone, but I'm still tired. Have a neck full of spots. Feel bloated every evening. have trouble sleeping, and am really nowty when I get tired.
Looking forward to having loads of enjoy and "the glow". Also looking forward to looking pregnant, rather than just overweight and lumpy.
Good luck everyone. xxx

BluebellsintheSpring · 02/06/2011 13:30

Seven and Strawberries - glad scans went well!

BeeMyBaby · 02/06/2011 14:20

Just found out SIL is expecting mid December, we are all very pleased for her of course, I think it will be interesting again as our DD's have only 9 weeks between them so these ones will have even less... baby fever!

LittleBlueBoat · 02/06/2011 16:26

Signing in to new thread

Has anyone else felt the tiny butterfly kicks yet? I'm sure i can feel the baby kicking at night when i turn on my right side.

Also i have this insane fear that as i'm overweight if i move when the baby is coming that i would end up crushing it so with my DS i just stayed still the whole time flat on my back Hmm

My scan is on Tuesday and i will be 13+2 weeks so i'm trying to keep busy so i dont worry too much, which is hard.

Congrats to everyone with good scan news Smile

msbuggywinkle · 02/06/2011 16:55

Littleblueboat I'm pretty sure I'm feeling the odd wriggle, very low down in my pelvis. Felt DD2 at 15 weeks (she had the hiccups every night at 6pm for weeks!). Have you read any active birth books? Janet Balaskas' one is great, I had DD1 on my hands and knees and DD2 squatting despite being a heifer!
