The idea of thinking of excuses for not drinking is bothering me already too! DH went out with friends last night but I chose not to because I was dreading having to lie about it .. I'm a terrible liar! I'm glad I didn't, because when he came home he told me that another girl hadn't been drinking and the first reaction (from the person we were most bothered about picking up on it) was 'are you pregnant'?, ha! We have a family wedding in a couple of weeks which I'm really dreading, as we've decided not to tell anyone (including family) until at least 10 weeks. Even not having coffee and tea at work is an issue for me - I work in a really small team and we all like our caffeine! So far I've said I'm cutting out caffeine as part of a health kick, but I'm sure they'll suspect soon, especially as we have a work night out coming up and the excuses will have to come out again!! Any top tips? xx

Hello everyone,

I have just POAS this morning in response to being late, and constant nausea and I got my BFP From various calculators I am due on the 10th of Feb - so can't wait. I think I am still in shock.

I have a 9 mo DD already and am due back after ML in a few weeks so it will be interesting to turn around and say I'm leaving again in another 8 months. Grin

I waited 18 months to get my DD1 and didn't want to wait too much longer for the next one so it was a bit of a surprise to see the BFP so soon.

gonerogue · 05/06/2011 15:41

Can we have a list - I'm an analyst IRL and like to have things laid out neatly Grin

I'll start it off

gonerogue 31 DC2 EDD 10th Feb

Not sure what other info people want to stick in about themselves but that might start it off.

Have read up on all of your posts and Lankylegs my DD has shown me what needs to be done re babyproofing. Lets just say it's going to be a mammoth task. Grin

Re the drinking excuses, Twittwoo - I usually just said I was skint and never joined in round - thus enabling me to go and order my own non alcoholic drink at the bar. Or else I would make DH go and get me my drinks if he was out with me.

Oh and congratulations to everyone who has had their BFPs - lets hope the 9 months ahead are happy and healthy with lots of fun for us all.

LolaRennt · 05/06/2011 16:17

Twittwooo weddings are easy, mingle with a glass of wine in hand at all times. Dump it if you can every so often, or get dh to drink it.

At the works do, get the first round in and order an orange juice or a tonic water and lemon, drink it slowly so you miss a couple rounds. You can also let some one buy you a drink and then dump it when no one is looking or after you have had a couple of your own bought drinks just say you want a coke as you are taking it easy.

lexy444 · 05/06/2011 16:21

We met friends yesterday and I accepted a glass of wine as I didn't want to raise suspicions, had to then covertly pour it away in their sink....DH said I was very obvious but I think I got away with it!

This is my third pregnancy as we won't be telling anyone until after a CVS at 11 - 13 weeks but it will be very difficult to hide. My stomach muscles are shot after a 11lb 9oz baby DS2 and I feel like I already look 4/5 months pregnant unless I hold everything in and can barely breathe. I have a spa weekend with NCT friends at 11 wks which will be the trickiest, already booked massages and will need to change to manicures, nevermind hiding the bump in a bathing suit!

Twittwooo · 05/06/2011 16:51

Thanks for all the drink excuse suggestions girls!! It's the wedding meal I'm the most bothered about, as the waiting staff will probably come round topping up everyone's glasses and then there are the toasts! And we will probably be sitting with very close family who won't know yet. I might have to resort to the good old antibiotics excuse, but surely they won't buy it! x

Hello. First time posting on MN and found out last week I'm pregnant for the first time! So can I join you?

It was all very shocking even though we'd been trying for 6 months I didn't think we'd had SWI at the right time this month so wasn't expecting it at all. I've done 5 positive POAS so I think its true..

Has been really useful reading this thread - having the same issues with bloating, trying not to tell anyone, making excuses for not drinking and wondering what every little pain is!

I'm so excited though so good to have people to talk to. I've worked out my due date as 4 Feb.. Have an appointment with the GP on sat - was useful to read on here about getting the certificate for free dentist and prescriptions :-)

antibiotics excuse is like code for being pregnant! Can you say you are driving therfore cant drink? Or on a diet?

gonerogue · 06/06/2011 07:46

YY second Lola's comment about the anitbiotics - that's how my MIL rumbled me when I was 4 weeks with my DD.

You could say detoxing either? Pretend you're huingover from the previous night's drinking and not able to touch a drop - I used this one in work when the nausea meant I culd barely smell food let alone eat it. (Disclaimer you can't say this too often though because people might start thinking you have a problem Grin )

Have had a horrendous night with DD1 -think it's the nine month regression but she was awake for 2 hours from 1 until 3 -it's times like that you think you're mad for going again. Grin

Bank holiday here (Ireland) so am going to go off with DH, DD and the dogs for a ramble -talk toyou all later.

LankyLegs · 06/06/2011 08:42

Morning all. Big congrats to everyone who has just found out over the last couple of days. Nice to see lots more people on here!

OH drinking... am struggling with that one already. I used the antibiotics one this weekend with some friends - but I don't think they cottoned on as none of them have kids/are married yet so wouldn't be on their radar (she says)... but all these new ideas are great - adding them to the list! It's going to be tough over the next 2 months trying to keep this under raps... sadly it is the drinking that will give me away....

Hats off to all you ladies who already have kiddies to contend with - hope that sickness etc is not too bad. gonerogue you will let me have to have your baby proofing tips nearer the time!

Am heading to the GP tomorrow to tell them the news. Anyone here have an underactive thyroid? I found out a few months so am keen to get to the GP and see whether my thyroxine levels will need increasing.

Have added self to list but someone did start one last week I think. I should have scrolled back to get it but never mind.

Amalgamated list! I've added a few people too, but definitely not everyone. I'm really sorry if I've missed you, but I'm being assaulted by Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka (thanks DD2!)

First midwife appointment today, quite excited, although knowing my luck, it will be Mad Mary I'll get, she hates disorganised people, and I'm a champion dizzy mare.

puzzletree · 06/06/2011 10:08

Mornin' all.

I did exactly what LolaRennt did at a wedding when i was 7/8 weeks pregnant. No-one twigged but they were all wasted themselves and there wasn't a sit-down meal. On other occasions I've just said I'm feeling a bit off, and don't want to make it worse. Or like the other day, say I've had a big night the night before. But I am usually a social drinker so have been rumbled before (though no-one said anything at the time).

Had my first nausea/dizzy spell last night when I was putting the boys to bed. I was a bit short with them to say the least, ah well, they're going to have to get used to it!

So stats,
puzzletree: DC3, EDD 1st Feb

LolaRennt · 06/06/2011 10:08

I have been up for 2 hours (5am here- my time) oh the insomnia starts already :(

Hoping not to have morning sickness this time, was horrible last time, I lost 20 pounds in my first trimester... Although quickly gained it all back and loads more in the second! Grin. No sign of it yet, though!

LolaRennt · 06/06/2011 10:10

Puzzletree, are you sure it was pg related? Back to the ginger biscuits ad pepperint tea with you! Envy

Moofins · 06/06/2011 11:09

Thanks for doing the list Esme. I've still to hear about any appointments but think will have to wait the full 12 weeks. Hope the appointment goes well.

After a weekend of quarantine and no additional spots appearing combined with DS not being ill whatsoever we have decided that DS does not have chicken pox. So after all that it was a false alarm! Am pretty annoyed as Dr wouldnt give us an appointment as if it was CP then we'd infect others - well I agree with that but I was pretty sure it wasnt in the first place as its vvvvvv rare to get it a second time! Oh well! Weekend wasnt completely ruined as we all went down to brighton on sunday anyway - shame the weather was pants!

I am avoiding drinking by making up stupid excuses (said I was going to church on sunday so didnt want to smell of wine!) and avoiding people! Have postponed a few drinks with friends until end of July when hopefully I will have had the scan!

I hope all those with sickness are OK. I am in a completely irrational mood today and trying to keep a lid on it at work! My last pregnancy I was horrendous to work colleagues in the first 12 weeks (I didnt realise I was at the time) and only when I announced the pregnancy my colleagues said "oh... that explains why you've been a bitch from hell".......! So am trying to be good but have a feeling DH is going to get full barrels at home instead! [thinks calm thoughts....]

Hope everyone had lovely weekends!

Moofins am with you on the crankiness - am up and down like a village pump handle...

m1nn1em0u5e · 06/06/2011 11:48

Morning ish all.....grrr phoned my GP surgery & he is on leave!....Got an appointment next Monday.

I feel so sickly, tired, can't sleep, grumpy, head achey.......feel so guilty that its the school/nursery holidays & I just can't seem to pull myself together enough to take them out for the day, managed the cinema & a game of Monopoly/DVDS, but thats about as much as I can handle at the moment. Feeling really guilty as its not their fault, oh im quite weepy too!....

Roll on the next 6 weeks....I want to feel like myself again, sorry for the moan....I know im really lucky to be pregnant! My husband is going abroad with work in just sort of 2 weeks & im dreading it, its a 19 hour flight home, think this is praying on my mind too....

Hugs m1nn1em0u5e worry plus morning sickness isn't good. Sounds like you're doing lots with the kids so don't feel guilty. I just rang gp too, we book directly to the midwife so I've got an appointment with her for next tuesday.

Moofins glad it wasn't CP, shame you had to stay in though. Hope you manage to stay calm enough not to arouse suspicion at work :)

LolaRennt you've reminded me to get some ginger tea in in preparation for the nausea and other healthy goodies. I must try not to just eat Tunnocks caramel wafers constantly this pregnancy :)

Annie210905 · 06/06/2011 13:48

Hello. I hope no one minds if I join this group? I have just discovered I am pregnant, due around 4th Feburary 2012 with my third. We have two sons aged 5 and 10. We are very, very excited but we haven't told anyone yet. It's a bit strange this time around because I have several friends who are trying and/or have had miscarriages (I didn't tell anyone we were trying) so am already thinking about how and when I am going to tell certain people. Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks.

Hi, I've added myself to the above list.

I think I'll hint at having a hangover at the wedding. DH and I are going out the night before so hopefully it will be believable. I'll just say I'm feeling a bit off and with any luck people will take that to mean I have a hangover, and then I will reluctantly admit it. Kind of a double bluff! Fingers crossed it works.

I've just made my first midwife appointment for a month from now and my 12 week scan is booked in too. It's all starting to feel very real!

No signs of much so far for me, I'm trying to make the most of it rather than panicking that I should be having more symptoms.

I hope you're all having a good start to the week! xx

Hello everyone! May I join?

I've just found out I'm pregnant. I've had two previous mcs and been trying for 18months. It was my first month using Clearblue Fertility Monitor, so am quite surprised and very happy (I POASed twice over two days, just to make sure my body wasn't kidding itself). I think I'm due on 13th Feb.

I've had nausea already but seem to be hungry all the time (which is exactly the symptoms I had before).
