oh x-posted. So sorry farfallarocks :( hope you're coping ok.

Maltesers88 · 29/06/2011 17:38

Thanks puzzletree.
No worrying symptoms, it's just my first and I want some reassurance there is actually something in there! Another 5.5 weeks is a long time to wait without knowing for sure! I have my booking in appt in a week so maybe I'll ask my GP about it then.

Wow, we are nearly onto our second thread!

Welcome to all the new passengers :)

Just wanted to pop on to say that I went for a private early scan just now and everything was fine - a tiny little baby with a heartbeat, only one, and in the right place.

So my massive weight gain over the last 6 weeks cannot be blamed on anything other than post-wedding cheese and cake.

For anyone interested, the scan cost £95, they saw me within 24 hours, I got lots of lovely pictures and I think it was totally worth it for peace of mind at this stage as I am high risk for ectopic (dodgy tubes).

Maltesers88 · 29/06/2011 18:37

millie26 was your scan somewhere in London?

InnocentRedhead · 29/06/2011 18:44

I am so sorry farfallarocks :( I was speaking to a friend who had a miscarriage last week, saw her today and i was disgusted at her attitude. She did not want the child but her attitude like it was something everyday and how she brushed it off was horrific. She even said 'saves me having an abortion' (which she was already booked for). People make me angry like that. I hate how in my area that abortion is seen as a method of contraception. I'm 19 and she is my peer age and i was ashamed to be so young at that point.

I can't believe how quickly this thread has grown and filled, by far the busiest ante-natal thread!!

Calmed down about my scan tomorrow, what will they be able to see at my stage 6+4. You make a good point about some EPUs are easier to get an early scan with, puzzletree. I rang up regarding the cramps just for advice and they got me in tomorrow - i am not even bleeding. It will provide peace of mind i hope but it's sad how it is a postcode lottery as to which hospital you are assigned to. All i can guess is because it is a brand new hospital that they have higher targets etc...

Everyone updated their stats on the thread??

Hi maltesers,

It was at The Avenue Clinic in Sevenoaks. Are you in London? There will be loads of clinics around - if you search for 3D scan places they may come up more online than early pregnancy scanning and they often do this too.

Part of me thinks it is just such a money spinner for somebody who is cashing in on women's insecurities and anxiety but then, I could choose not to go and I didnt so...! :)

phlossie · 29/06/2011 19:07

Sorry to hear your news farfallarocks. Maybe your friend is just putting on a show to cope innocent? Who knows - it's a weird (and often unfair) old world. Let's hope everyone else sticks on this crowded bus!

So I've made an (unscientific) discovery. Being in water, ie swimming, actually STOPS my sickness! Anyone else found that?

As for the old wives tales, I was more sick when pregnant with my boy than girl, and I carried my boy all round and my girly neatly out the front! There's only one way to tell for sure, and that's the scan. But I love the guessing, so we probably won't find out.

Can't for my scan. Very Envy of those who have had reassuring scans already. I haven't even got a date yet...

shipsladyg · 29/06/2011 19:21

Phlossie - I don't have a scan date yet either. Like Millie I'm trying to tell myself too that the private early scans are money spinners too; but I'm sorely tempted... I had one last time as I totally freaked out having had a MMC the first time I was pregnant. Was the poor doctor's first day at the surgery and I cried at him til he agreed. I managed to get my lower BP above 90 I was fretting so.

Lola - tis good to Know that there's someone else with the same age gap looming.

Am really trying not to stress about this pregnancy. A chum of mine has just had a traumatic birth and it's set me into a spin. Her experience was pretty extreme / one in thousand I know, but it's making me nervous. Got to talk myself round over the next seven months.

Gooseysgirl · 29/06/2011 19:32

Coffee and Maltesers... I've booked a private early scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre on Harley St (£100 - worth every penny for peace of mind) - I've yet to hear from a midwife despite GP making referral but he said it might take a few weeks for them to be in touch. Waaaay too long for me, I'm a first-timer, over 35, nervous and really want to double check all is well. The FMC gets good reviews from other mumsnetters and easy for me to get to as I work nearby. I also like the fact that their profits go towards further research. I'll be just under 8 weeks having the scan.
Farfalla, so sorry to hear your sad news.

phlossie · 29/06/2011 20:23

I'm going to wait, I think. I'm only 31 and a third-timer, so I spose I've got a bit of a 'what will be, will be' attitude. Don't want a false sense of security, but at the same time, I'm not overly anxious.

I think that if you're anxious you should do whatever you need to do for reassurance - all the way through pregnancy and with children. Medical people are understanding on the whole. I remember taking my daughter to A&E because I thought she was having an asthma attack, and realising she was fine and just got herself in a tizz just before going into triage. It was the lovely, lovely (male) nurse there who said when I apologised for being hysterical that it was a mum's job to worry and err on the side of caution.

Let us know how you all get on.

Maltesers88 · 29/06/2011 20:23

Oh dear, just had to turn down another of DH's lovingly prepared dinners. The smell of lamb chop was taking over the whole house and really getting to me so had to shut myself in the bedroom with a bowl of rice krispies and a scented candle! This is the first time I've really noticed a stronger sense of smell.

Needle · 29/06/2011 20:39

Malteasers88 I was like that with my first pg- my sense of smell went totally haywire. It's not so bad this time, but still very hightened, we've got dogs and I used to feel soooo sick whenever i got in the car because the smell of Border Collie was so strong.

farfalla, I'm so sorry. Best of luck for the future.

Innocent cavalier attitudes to abortion drive me mad too- it's so cold. I was 23 when I got pregnant the first time, and everyone treated me like I was either a) mental b) knocked up by accident c) a gold digger, so I think your mature attitude is really great- I hope you don't come up against it as badly as I did, especially as you're even younger. I wouldn't let your friend bother you too much though, like Phlossie said, maybe she was just trying to put a brave face on the matter- even if she was planning an abortion, to lose a baby has got to be unnerving.

WRT symptoms, so far this pregnancy I've put on about 1/2 stone, despite swimming/ doing an exercise DVD every day. I only have to show my belly a pg test and it starts to creep outwards. I dread to think what size I'll be when it's finally over!

louby86 · 29/06/2011 20:50

farfalla so sorry to hear your news, thinking of you, take care

innocent I know what you mean, I'm 24 and have a friend that's recently had an abortion and she's so open about it and matter of fact you'd have thought it was a trip to the dentist, although maybe that's her way of dealing with it. I also have a boss who feels let down, apparently it's not the right age for me to be pregnant if I want to get on in my career! She also refuses to say I'm pregnant and keeps calling it my 'situation' as if I've had an accident and I'm trying my best to deal with it! I've said at work my career path is up to me and I've chosen to try for a baby so they need to stop acting like I've got some sort of disease!

And for anyone else suffering with horrendous morning sickness I've researched what the doctor gave me today and will let you know tomorrow if it stops me feeling so I'll!

gonerogue · 29/06/2011 21:03

farfalla so sorry to hear your news. Look after yourself and take care.

babycarmen and wicket that's brilliant news about both scans - you must be so happy.

With regard to sense of smell - that's how I realised I should do a test this time around. Last time with DD I could smell food 3 rooms away - and this timeTMI alert - I nearly got sick at the smell of one of DH's farts. Blush

sipsladyg only natural to be woried about the birth and you will hear o many different storie. I was only told horrendous stories beforehand but it was fine really.

Well today DH made me some yummy mash potato with fried onion. It was delish and I managed to keep it down too.

I am having such difficulty with getting out of bed and going to work - I was never this tired with DD so I am thinking I must have a Boy in there. Grin

had a midwife appointment on Monday and the scan is arranged for 22nd July. She said that a home birth could be very likely with this one due to my last labour being rapid!
I don't feel too sick but very tired and my tummy is looking bigger already.
It still feels very unreal at the moment. I'm going to try not to think too hard about the logistics of having 3 kids in a 2 bed flat until I've had the scan.

Maltesers88 · 29/06/2011 21:45

Oh god. DH has just told me he is taking me to Brussels for the weekend as our anniversary treat and am FREAKING OUT! Don't mean to be ungrateful but the last thing I need at the mo is to be away from home without my kitchen full of things and home comforts to keep me feeling better.
The idea of sightseeing round a city all weekend and not having my toaster with me is all too much to bear Sad
Feel so guilty for complaining but am just gonna have to suck it up I guess. Poor thing, he's gonna have such a miserable weekend with me in tow!

runaroundstartsnow · 29/06/2011 21:45

Hi all, i had another scan Monday and they told me i was measuring 4 days ahead...However baby was still only 22mm, so where has the half a stone i have put on come from?
It may be that i'm having to eat every 2hours or i am sick Sad today i threw up outside a shop because i didn't get to my biscuits in time (so humiliating)
Goosey The FMC is a great place for a scan, i am having my CVS there.

generogue my mum had two girls then a boy, and constantly referred to him as 'the alien' because he made her feel so awful! And ditto with the DH farts. Mine did one in bed, and I heaved!

Grin claricestar A friend of mine has 3 boys in a 2 bed flat, and is coping... so far! Bunkbeds all the way!

My tummy is ginormous.

OddEyes · 29/06/2011 21:58

Clarice I have same scenario, 2 bed flat with a third child on the way. Will have to stay that way too for a good while too.

OddEyes · 29/06/2011 21:59

Oh! Am I the last poster? Desperate for a dry cracker!
