highlandbird · 02/03/2011 11:40

Jen hope everything went/ is going ok for you!!! Any more babies last night??

I've been craving pineapples and grapefruit for the past month and eating them in large quantities, how is this supposed to help anyway?
I've started getting used to having lots of twinges and back pain now, last few days kept thinking, is this it??? But I guess I'll know when it is....
Thought some enforced 'nesting' might help so did a load of cleaning this morning but domestic goddess I am not...gave up when the washing line collapsed and my nice clean sheets ended up in a dog poo :( back in the wash on 95 degrees now and I'm going to have a cup of tea and put my feet up instead!!
Also....sounds like everyone is avoiding the 'lots of sex' thing, is it just me that has a sex drive through the roof just now?! Blush DP is exhausted from being busy at work just now and I feel like I'm harrassing him slightly.....
Hope everyone is enjoying the spring-like sunshine! :)

TooImmature2BMum · 02/03/2011 11:45

Grin at Coral. I woke up with horrible heartburn too, but I ate so much yesterday that I don't know if it was the pigginess (Big Mac and fries, doughnut x 2, giant baguette with ham and cheese...Blush) or the pineapple.

I read yesterday that giving oral sex also works - do you think that's true, or an urban myth perpetuated by men? I did not share the theory with DH!

I can't believe tomorrow is my due date! Absolutely nothing is happening. I ought to get up and take the dog for a nice long walk. That might help.

Jupiter118 · 02/03/2011 12:17

Hattie Shock at the toilet story - I hope that doesn't happen to anyone. I did scare myself by reading a thread on here about fast labours.

tooimmature loving the mixture of McDs and pineapple.

coral you made me chuckle also.

All the pineapple seems to have done for me is promote yet more bowel clearing. Getting to the point of riduculous - after I eat any meal and is def not a bug of food poisoning.

I really ought to do some enforced nesting - not sure I can be bothered though - hmmmmm

More babies anyone?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/03/2011 12:28

Hhahah....

I also actually feel like having sex more often. At 36 weeks we agreed it was a bit awkward and decided we wouldnt have sex anymore but we are still managing 2/3 times a week and I will do anything to get the baby out as well. Plus after the birth I am MUCH MUCH less likely to have sex for ages so making the most of it now.

As far as I am aware the oral sex thing is about some kind of hormone/endorphin in semen isnt it so I guess it should have the same effect - I would rather just have the sex.

Jupiter - I was induced last time and it was very quick. From what I have been told this is no indication of further births as your body works quickly after induction because it is encouraged. My first labour was 30 hours beginning to end with "proper" labour about 12 hours so I dont think there is any timescale really.

NO news from Jen - but fingers crossed she is with baby now and maybe its a BOY. According to the list our first "guarenteed" boy is Lartys LO.

coraltoes · 02/03/2011 12:29

are we basically supporting the pineapple export industry?! there will be farmers somewhere amazed at the volumes being sold this month!!

Larty74 · 02/03/2011 12:46

Just back from Midwife and all ticking along fine. Scheduled 40wk check for next Tues if nothing happens before then, and another appoint for following Tues to schedule induction if still nothing.

I have a feeling LO is in it for the long haul, but with these few dates booked for some reason I feel alot more clear on things.

Parents have arrived and DH just completed a job which was weighing heavily on him so I think we are officially READY! Confused

StrangewaysHereICome · 02/03/2011 12:52

Grin at all the pineapple munching - I have started today, on my second pile and fed up with it already!! Might have to pin DH down tonight instead Wink. 3 days over now and getting mighty fed up I don't know what to do with myself. Every twinge is making me think "is this it?" and I have been doing this for 3 weeks Shock.

I just keep telling myself this baby will have to come out at some point. I suppose my BH's are getting more uncomfortable, but maybe I am clutching at straws! It's weird being overdue, because it feels like the whole world is waiting for this baby and not just me!!

I've been out and about this morning, doing some shopping, going round town, having a coffee and will walk the dog later. Does anyone have any tips on passing the time once overdue???

Hope Jen is cuddling her little one now St Davids

Larty74 · 02/03/2011 12:54

I'm trying mixedmama, I'm trying! Well done you for 2/3 times a week! ha ha Grin I want to but I don't at the same time if that makes any sense.

I wish clementines had the same effect as pineapple as I can't eat them fast enough. Love pineapple but only have a little left.

Let's hope for some news from Jen v soon - can't wait!

cherub59 · 02/03/2011 13:16

The oral sex thing has to be a man myth! It's the prostaglandin effect on your cervix from the semen which may (or may not!) get labour going! When you are induced it is a gel on your cervix which mimics the prostaglandin!!!
If it was your hubby told you about oral sex he was defo trying it on!!! Grin

On another note it's my due date tomorrow and wish baby would hurry up! Ds2 was 2 weeks early so am surprised this one has got so comfy.

irishqueen · 02/03/2011 13:20

Hey ladies,
Maeve is here born yesterday at 39+5 7 pounds
55 minutes from the waters popping to me catching her in my primark big pants
Yesterday I had a curry, had the excitement, drank more rasp tea, and did the old nipple stimulation ... this definitely brought on contactions however bf sore now due to the tweaking
I havent slept a wink ... i'm in love

birthstory to follow

Lozario · 02/03/2011 13:20

Loving the pineapple comments because at the moment I have half an actual pineapple and two tubs of chopped pineapple in my fridge... not so much for me but DS1 is ADDICTED to pineapple at the moment??! All he wants to eat is prawns and pineapple. I think he is having sympathetic cravings.

Isn't mango meant to do the same? I hope so. I bloody love mango.

sex - OMG mixedmama how!!!! I suppose I should probably try and have sex with DH sometime soon, it's been a few weeks, I've forgotten how!! Poooor DH.... I so can't be bothered though!

Thinking of Jen - can't wait to hear news of more babies...

Right next on the to-do list, finish watching Lost.....

Lozario · 02/03/2011 13:22

Oooh cross-posted: CONGRATS irishqueen and ANOTHER GIRL!!! WOW!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/03/2011 13:24

Irish - CoNGRATS. Another girl. Wow they really are dominating.

Lozario - hahahahahaha. Everytime I think this will probably be the last time for ages since I convince myself that baby will make an appearance.

KPidgeon · 02/03/2011 13:25

Hello pineapple guzzlers. Don't think I can start that now- still 3.5 weeks to go- how will I cope when this forum goes all quiet and you all up sticks to the other March babies one!?

Hope you're okay now coral I have funny reactions to citrus fruit so will be careful not to overdo the pineapple when the time comes.

Am having 2xcups of raspberry leaf tea every day. It's lovely- that's supposed to bring on labour in large quantities too isn't it? Worth a try ladies? Also I heard nipple stimulation was supposed to bring on labour..

highlandbird grapefruit have been my big craving all through pregnancy too- must be a thirst thing I think but I peel and eat them like oranges. Yum!

Am enjoying maternity leave a lot- still not dressed, terrible behaviour! Just henna'd my hair so I don't have roots come due date photos..

Right, time for a cup of Brew

Good luck and keep us posted all.

Larty74 · 02/03/2011 13:38

Many congrats to you irishqueen Smile

1Catherine1 · 02/03/2011 13:44

Lovely to read all your updates. I'm really struggling now at 37+3, I really should have started ML on Monday I'm far too exhausted/emotional to carry on. This morning I woke up the OH before leaving the house because I felt like I needed a hug before I went to work as I already felt like crying. I think even though my MW told me that my mums history of early babies wouldn't affect me it didn't stop me hoping that it might. Still no ML cover which I no longer care about, I've told them I'm gone next Friday cover in place or not and I will not be setting cover work like I've heard others have had to in the past. I gave them 27 weeks notice, what more do they want?!!

Sorry for the moan, feeling quite hormonal - I don't know how you lot that are overdue are still managing, I'm really ready for LO to arrive already!

OP posts:
me23 · 02/03/2011 14:21

congrats irishqueen

catherine don't worry about work like you said you have given more than enough notice for them to sort it out.

The house is a mess I do not have the energy to clean it my nesting period has passed, but it needs to be done, the mw is coming on friday to drop off the homebirth kit don't want her seeing this mess!

The pump arrived for the pool this morning need to do a trial run soon.

superpenguin · 02/03/2011 14:44

ooooh congratulations to irishqueen ! Grin

emma31177 · 02/03/2011 15:24

congratulations irishqueen and family loving the news on babies being born it brings us nearer to ours

Purplefan · 02/03/2011 16:12

Congrats to Irishqueen and hopefully some more congrats for Jen soon!!! Enjoyed catching up with all your news...pineapple stories sound ok, sex def not with the pelvic pain I've been getting..but go for it girls Wink

I am loving being on Maternity leave especially now that DD1 is back at school!!
My sister came over today and we have painted the nursery despite DH saying that it was fine as it was.. will see what his reaction is when he gets home Hmm
I have my hospital bags packed and am ready, just in case anything happens before planned CS date!!

jammiedodger2 · 02/03/2011 16:17

Hi Ladies
Not entirely sure how this post will be received but don't feel I have anywhere else to go with feelings atm
I had pnd with dd 10 years ago but was fine after ds, but I did have quite a bad bout of depression in 2009. I've been struggling with my mood for about a month now, I've put it down to stress at work and some money worries (now sorted thank goodness) but am starting to feel that I really don't want this baby. DH is a lovely man and I have 2 gorgeous chids and the baby feels like an intruder.
People keep asking if I want a girl or a boy and I smile and say I don't mind but the truth is I don't want either.
I'm such a selfish cow because I'm lucky to be carrying a healthy baby.
I don't feel I can talk to my midwife or health visitor about how i'm feeling because they know me professionally. Last time I tried to talk to my health visitor about ds when he was being a bit of a challenging 3 yr old she tutted and told me to just get on with it because I should know what I'm doing since i'm a health visitor.
sorry to be a bit of a downer, I am delighted for all you ladies, I don't feel like I can join in tho.
jx

Muser · 02/03/2011 16:32

I'm really glad you felt able to post about this here jammie. It's a step towards getting help. It sounds like you're not getting the professional help you need. Could you maybe go to your GP instead? Pre-natal depression does exist, and there should be help there for you. I hope you can find it.

I found this website from a Guardian article which may help.

StrangewaysHereICome · 02/03/2011 16:37

Jammie poor you feeling so down. You are not a selfish cow, you are just human. I am no expert in depression but it does sound like you need to talk to someone. You are tired and hormonal and about to have a baby who will affect you and your family. The adjustments that you will need to make are scary. If I am honest I feel mighty scared at times too, wondering how having a baby will affect the family dynamic.

Can you talk to your GP or contact a counsellor maybe if you can't speak to your mw? I think it's great that you have recognised how you feel which is the first step to getting better. Remember depression is not your fault and going through a life changing experience is bound to trigger some negative thoughts. It would be much better for you to get some help now, before the baby arrives. Please be kind to yourself and get some help - you'll be fine I know it. Big un-mumsnetty hugs to you xxxx

KPidgeon · 02/03/2011 17:16

Of course post here jammie I think a lot of the time we are cheerful on here but I found last week really hard and cried every evening- then felt doubly guilty because my dear husband was really getting the worst of me after being at work all day in a challenging new job.

I'm terrified about the changes that are about to happen in our lives.

You must be very tired too- with other children to take care of already.

Hope you get some decent and useful advice from your GP if you go. And do post on here if you need to vent.

Like Strangeways said- be kind to yourself. xx
