Hi all - and thanks Catherine for the new thread.

Finally did some real shopping this weekend and got the pram/pushchair and car seat as well as a playmat and a few other things. Hopefully more shopping this week will help me get my hospital bag sorted.

But then still have to move house - eeek!

Am going to book a pregnancy massage to try and sort out my aching hips. Not sure what to expect but the massage woman looks very experienced.

Have a good week all -

spaceal · 17/01/2011 13:41

Quick question: anyone got any ideas for great birth/new baby presents for husbands/partners? Found these on another MN thread, very cute but perhaps not ideal for a little girl...

Medee · 17/01/2011 13:46

Afternoon all. Had my 32 week appointment today. All seems well and baby is head down, which is good news (I had suspected so, as it feels very firm lower down, but good to have it confirmed) and am measuring bang on my weeks.

is that presents from the mother to the father on the birth of their child? TBH, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind that such a thing was done. The other way round though perhaps...

spaceal · 17/01/2011 13:59

Yeah, I meant from me to OH. Not sure it's the 'done thing' but I just thought it'd be a nice idea, not least cos it means I can buy some more nice things Grin

I meant to ask earlier - has anyone else noticed their little one be particularly active near running water? Whenever I do the washing up or brush my teeth, the LO wriggles a lot. I couldn't work it out at first, but then wondered if she could hear the water?

me23 · 17/01/2011 14:26

Hi everyone, Thanks for starting the new thread catherine
strangeways I'm not sleeping well either, My pelvis aches so much in bed. Also keep getting UTI's which mean I am up lterally 2 times or more for a wee. The lack of sleep has come to a head last week I have been feeling so depressed and keep crying. Went to the gp but he was a patronising idiot. Last night I actually slept ok (well ok for me) I only got out of bed an hour ago and I'm feeling better for it.

I haven't packed a hospital bag, I'm planning a homebirth anyway but will pack a bag in case we need to transfer, prob won't do until 34-36 weeks, that's when I did it last time.

I also haven't set up any of baby's things, half of the stuff hasn't been delivered yet will be coming 1st march. I've also done the baby plan at mothercare which I know someone else on here has done but can't recall who.

StrangewaysHereICome · 17/01/2011 14:45

me23 you have my sympathy, I was quite teary this morning with feeling so utterly exhausted and doing the school run. DD's were very good this morning as I think they know mummy is not feeling her best. Having seen the mw today she has referred me to a physio about the pelvic pain so I really hope I can get some relief - it's so draining and I am sure the lack of sleep is making the nausea return too. All in all I feel rubbish. I am glad you had a good sleep last night.

I haven't packed a bag yet, but I will soon. The mw is doing a home visit next week and bringing "the box". Now having that in the living room will make it all seem scarily close!!!!

My check up went well, blood pressure is a bit low which explains my light headedness. As for baby position it is still a bit of a mystery. She thinks it is head down but as it is back to back it is hard to be sure as all she can really feel is a load of limbs!! She will check again next week and if it is still a mystery I'll go for a scan to be sure. Need to get crawling about soon to try and persuade baby into a better position.

I have piles too, but then I have suffered on and off before children came along. I am drinking lots and not spending too long on the loo so hopefully they will calm down soon. Another reason to crawl around with my bum in the air!!

irishqueen · 17/01/2011 14:52

Hi can i be a late joiner? I will be 34 weeks on thurs with no 3.I have dd6 and ds5 with ex husband and this little suprise will be partners first.
if this helps my case i have heartburn constipation ang am generally knackered!

TooImmature2BMum · 17/01/2011 15:55

Hi IrishQueen - welcome!

There has been so much going on with you all since the last time I posted I don't know where to start!

My bump is itchy at the bottom, especially when my pants/trousers/leggings dig into my stretch marks, but my boobs are okay at the moment. How do you know what size nursing bras to buy? I'm a bit worried about it - right now I have exactly one bra that fits properly, and an old sports bra that does for the days this one is in the wash. I'm reluctant to buy more with only 6 weeks (give or take!) to go, but I know I will need proper nursing bras.

I haven't got piles . Once I could have said that about stretch marks, so perhaps they will appear suddenly. I hope not!

I haven't packed my hospital bag yet. I have now bought some nappies, but I still need to get the breast and maternity pads. I got myself a Primark nightie for the birth, and some pyjamas for afterwards, and one of my friends is getting me flipflops for the shower when she's in Aberdeen next weekend (there isn't a Primark in Edinburgh, it's really annoying!).

Oof, does anyone else find themselves having to straighten up suddenly as the baby performs some sort of manoeuvre that bangs off your ribs? I haven't noticed more movement next to running water, just lots in the middle of the night! This is not a good sign.

I'm looking forward to OBEM too - if I can stay awake long enough to watch Glee first and then OBEM on C4+1. Waterbirth, though - I really want to see it.

1Catherine1 · 17/01/2011 18:05

Welcome IrishQueen.

I put OBEM on record on sky+ since I know OH won't watch it and he's off work tonight. I'm really interested in seeing the water birth too as this is kinda what I was hoping to go for.

I need to find somewhere to get a nursing bra from too but was going to give it a few weeks. My bra size hasn't changed in pregnancy but I expect it will do at some point.

Got a new pregnancy complaint today - my poor legs and feet. Now they ache all day and night. I wish my flat had a bath in it rather than just a shower as it would be nice to soak the aches away - but I guess I just have to suffer :(

Had a bit of a stressful day today. I hear people on MN complaining that they worry that their ML replacement will do their job better than them, I wish this was my worry. After he was appointed last week he spent the day with me today getting to know my classes and I had the opportunity to get to know him. He made it quite clear that he is just "supply" and he intends to be out of school as fast as the pupils at the end of the day. I am now worried about my year 10 and 11s who are both due to sit exams while I'm away. I'm wondering if I could go back during ML to put on revision classes for my y11s at least since they don't have a chance to resit. Is this an acceptable use of KIT days? Second thing to stress me out, I've had the nastiest pupil I've ever come across moved to my class as of tomorrow. Apparently parents dictate what classes their children are in rather than the school. She doesn't like her teacher so she's been moved to me, I don't like her but I get no say in it!! Angry I never say that about kids but this one is a nasty bitch, she's the only student that has ever stood in my face in an attempt to intimidate me. None-pregnant me would never be intimidated by such behaviour but I really don't feel I should be put in this position when I am the size of a house and struggling to walk let alone physically remove this girl out of my space if she decides to intrude on it again. She is a tall year 10 so actually about 2 inches taller than me. I've voiced my concerns with my HoD but she says the decision was made by the girls father and the head. AIBU to feel like this? :(

OP posts:
me23 · 17/01/2011 18:23

oops I meant to say I've been getting up 20 or more times a night to wee, not 2 times that would be heaven!

Will be watching OBEM with OH tonight we have made a deal he can watch MOTD in bed as long as he watches OBEM hehe.

I'm really hoping the waterbirth goes swimmingly Wink (sorry that was bad lol) I'm sick of seeing so much intervention on that programme.

spilttheteaagain · 17/01/2011 19:36

Marking my place.

I am getting quite excited about all your babies arriving. Detailed birth stories please!

Well I'm 9+1 now and rather to my disgust pelvic pain started half way through last week. Lovely. So, do any of you have recommendations for maternity pillows? I figured I might as well buy one sooner rather than later to get lots of benefit from it! Please bear in mind I am due late August so will have to be enormous in the hot summer months Smile

Private scan next Tues. I am terrified and hopeful and very much looking forward to being put out of my misery and at least KNOWING that at that point in time everything is ok/everything is over. Also how many are there?? DH is alarmingly convinced it is twins Confused, goodness knows why!

Good luck to those of you trying to turn your babies round. me so sorry about the lack of sleep and the pelvis etc. Ruined sleep makes pain even worse, and when it is the pain runing your sleep Sad I feel for you.

Piles! Shock Not. Going. To. Happen.

Take care all xx

TooImmature2BMum · 17/01/2011 20:21

Poor you, Catherine! I don't think you're being unreasonable to be angry about the bitch girl, but I don't know anything about teaching, so I can't be any practical help. Sympathies to you. How much longer have you got before maternity leave? Maybe she'll stay out of your face until then .

Hi Spilt - good luck with the scan! Would you like twins?

My bra size has gone up 5 cups in pregnancy Blush. The midwife said we could look forward to engorgement after the milk comes in on Day 3 - I'm scared!

jeffily · 17/01/2011 20:31

Hi Irishqueen welcome! I am 34 weeks on Thurs as well, so you must be due 3rd March as well?

GOOD LUCK for your scan split, really hope all goes well for you. Piles can strike at any time you know, you should really be prepared! !

My hospital bag (suitcase!) is packed and ready to go, and has been for a while- I was already in hospital by now when preg with DD. But am really, really hoping that this one will stay put a bit longer.

I went to the docs today and he signed me off, so I am now officially on ML! Hurrah! Am so pleased to be able to just relax, focus on enjoying my last few weeks with just me and DD, and also on packing up the house in preparation for the move to Devon!!!! Think we are now aiming for end of March for the move- hopefully baby will come around 37 weeks, well past pre-mature stage, but nice and early to give me time to recover slightly before moving our lives. Does mean that DH will be down there for 2 days a week from beginning of March without us, but I think that is the way to go....

Sorry to hear that people have pain and are up all the time to wee. I have been getting pain in my leg- I suffer with a varicose vein and it is really tender and sore. Keep meaning to mention it to the MW but haven't seen her for nearly a month now. Are we meant to have appointments every 3 weeks in the later part of preg? Can't remember.

Right, off to watch baking, then OBEM. DH is out tonight so can enjoy in peace!
Love to all

jeffily · 17/01/2011 20:33

Oh and Catherine, can you request an additional risk assessment for this student being moved into your class? Our employers have to do a risk assesment for us, and even if it means that you get an additional adult with you for the lessons she is in it might help you feel safer. Just a thought.

spilttheteaagain · 17/01/2011 21:09

jeffily makes me smile to think of you being completely off work now and able to relax and get into the swing of home life. I am a bit Envy though I must admit!

TooImmature quite frankly I could do without twins. I would like a boring, textbook totally low risk pg and birth please! But if there's two there's two and of course I will be happy but also much more wound up I feel...

5 cups though!!! Respect to you. And good luck!

niamh29 · 17/01/2011 21:20

Phew, found ye!!

Sooooo tired!!!! All the time, anyone else?

Kagey · 17/01/2011 21:26

Gemma

Nik I am sympathetic as I have been recently diagnosed too and start physio this Wednesday - I shall update.

Spilt I got a maternity pillow from John Lewis which I found helpful whilst pregnant with DD, but this time around is doing nothing for me :(

Hello to everyone else, the final stretch it is Shock Not watching OBEM, instead watching Glee - much less scary!

1Catherine1 · 17/01/2011 21:42

Me too Niamh, I was feeling so miserable, tired and stressed when I got home tonight (hence the previous rant post). I went to sleep for 2 hours though and now up again and doing my work for tomorrow. I somehow find I sleep better when I have a few hours on the sofa before bed as I don't seem to ache quite as much if my sleep is broken up.

Kangey I don't blame you for not watching, I don't really want to tbh but I know my students will only make it sound a million times worse when I see them tomorrow so best to go in informed Wink Although intrigued about waterbirth, will be educational.

spilt, sorry about the pelvic pain starting already!! I got terrible back pain in my first trimester that eased slightly in my second if that is of any reassurance to you. I don't want to disillusion any of you but the physio will probably not be much help tbh, mine recommended some exercises for me and then told me as I was pregnant there was little else she could do. Although she did give me a crutch that I use when my pain gets bad so I can carry on working - it's a life saver. Anyway... procrastination is bad - must do work!

That was lovely much better than last weeks!!!Had me smiling and crying and not wanting to mute anyone!!! I am talking about OBEM!! If i could guarantee a birth like Lydias maybe i would try a vbac!! Hope this weeks has calmed some who were maybe scarred from last weeks Grin x

Darnsarfupnorf · 17/01/2011 22:58

We have lactation girls! TMI sorry i just got really excited! :p

Muser · 17/01/2011 23:12

I can't believe so many of you have hospital bags packed. There I am right at the top of the list and I have only got as far as taking the bag I want to use off the top of the wardrobe.

gem3225 · 18/01/2011 07:38

darns i have too...... i was quite excited whilst sitting a my bath when i noticed. but only from my right breast!! it was quite cool though. Grin

Larty74 · 18/01/2011 09:21

There you all are! Still don't know much about this whole thread thing, but nevermind I've found you. I've been missing everyone's updates. [smaile]

I got reffered to physio for back pain and got a support band out of it which I will try today on a walk. Hurray Jeffily for starting your leave...youi can now join me as an official desperate housewife.

spilt always good to hear from you, try to keep busy until next Tues. will be thinking of you.

Hope everyone is well

KPidgeon · 18/01/2011 11:08

Catherine that new girl sounds awful. I sympathise with your worries about your students whilst your away- shows what a nice teacher you must be. But I think when your little baby is here you will be so focused on him or her you may not want to commit yourself at this stage to going back and doing revision sessions..just a thought. Remember that you and your health and your little one are really important.

OBEM was lovely last night. I'm all for trying the birthing pool now. How annoyingly beautiful and slim was that Lydia though?! Gorgeous even in labour! Envy

Tooimmature 5 cups!!! Wowzers!

Spilt nice to hear from you and all the best with the scan. My husband got a "mother's pack" from Argos for me- triangular pillow for my head/back, which is bliss (and useful for Breast feeding later) and this nifty wedge cushion for under the bump. It has made a big difference to my sleeping. The pack also had an eye mask- which I'm not sure I need! But it's pretty and I was impressed by his sweetness in getting me a pack! (I think he was just fed up of the moaning during the night every time I turned over!)

Anyone else cry at EVERY birth on OBEM? We both sit there sobbing! Hopeless!

doubleshotlatte · 18/01/2011 12:05

Thx Catherine for the new thread, how do you find the time? You're amazing! Shock I can finally stop lurking and post Blush as we will stay put for now. Week 32+3 and huuuuuuge Shock walking DD to nursery is ever more difficult.

Jeffily re MW appointments, I think they are 2-3 weeks apart but it's upto us to make appointments. Last time no one told me, so I missed most of my 3rd trimester checkups :( This time round, it took a month of calling and leaving messages at the community midwife's to get seen Hmm.

Starting to prepare in earnest for D-day. I got poor DH to get stuff down from the loft - including the huge pilates ball (great for early labour) and inflatable ring (for after the birth, ouch!) and of course, the cutest of DD's new baby clothes and snowsuit :). Have 2 mothercare nursing nighties picked out for the labour (easy to do skin-to-skin) and huge pile of nursing bras.

We've swapped our home office with DD's room, so there's now a huge sunny new nursery for when DC2 is ready to share with DD Bear. Of course, it had to be all of my stuff that had to go Angry.

BTW, MW thought baby is head down now but I'm not too sure, I think he keeps flipping, I can feel the kicks all over the place! Really wish they did an ultrasound weeks35+ just to check size and position of baby. Why do they leave it till you arrive screaming, ready to push before they announce "Uh-oh baby is breech, gotta operate?" Or "Oops! giant baby coming thru, this is gonna take a while!"
Grrr
