Hope that people have had a restful weekend. I am 38+3 today and so far had nothing to report. Bump is still tiggly and seems to be a martyr to hiccups.
I am getting paranoid that every twinge and different feel is a sign that something is happening though, and now I wonder if it is!

This bit is a bit TMI but I have no less than three major BM clear-outs this evening and have now got some white discharge. I suspect it might be liquefaction of the show as what happened last time. Better go and put on my extra-sexy Tena briefs then...

Also is there anyone here who only knows they are getting BH contractions if they feel that their bump goes hard? I cannot feel them without touching?
Also managed to solve the blood issue. Was able to get it done at the phlebotomy clinic at the hospital instead.
Suspect I wont make that 39w midwife appointment - at least without company!

EvaLongoria · 28/02/2011 09:43

Hi

Just wondering if anyone experiencing really bad itching. I itch just about everywhere and nothing seemed to be able to release me of scratching and accoring to midwife its very normal. Still have headaches as well and been given codeine for that but that headaches also not getting any better.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/02/2011 10:18

Ahhh good morning everyone.

39 weeks today. Not much going on though so suspect we are not imminent, but not even due yet so trying not to focus on it too much. DH getting very itchy feet, apparently he wants to get his 2 weeks off work - since we have 2 children already I am just assuming he realises this is not a holiday.

Anyone else not really looking forward to the influx of visitors once LO arrives? DH family come en masse and stay for ages and do the pass the parcel thing with baby and it drives me mad, am trying to remain calm about it. And breathe.

Lozario · 28/02/2011 11:50

EvaLongoria I've got the itchy skin thing too, especially on my legs and it's driving DH mad! Have some hydrobase cream on prescription which is helping, it's good for DS1's skin too so see if you can get a prescription for that, it's handy to have in the house!

Jenchandler Most of my family still live in Cardiff apart from my mum who lives in Devon, she's hoping to move up in this direction though hurray! The builders have finished thank GOD. Every time we get anything done, I always say NEVER AGAIN!

mixedmama I know what you mean about visitors - DS1 was the first grandchild on both sides and I have bent over backwards over the last two years to try and make sure everyone has "equal access" to him and let them come whenever they ask, although no-one bloody thanks me for it, I think they all think I'm a moody cow though!! My SIL is due at the end of July so that should take the heat off us a bit. I think generally I'll be a bit stricter about visitors this time around, I knackered myself out a bit last time and as I say, no one thanks you for it!

OK was going to write more but DS1 being a TOTAL pain in the ass this morning so better throw him a biscuit or something....

spaceal · 28/02/2011 12:03

Morning all.

I've got a bit of the itchy thing going on too, but just discovered it's because the house we've just rented has FLEAS Angry - aaaagh. Fortunately the landlord is being very good and has the council pest control people coming out on Weds and they only use water-based insecticides so all OK - but we're booked in for an induction on Thursday so this is all a bit last minute and not what we need. I'm wondering if I'm going to need to wash all the little one's things again after the fumigation. Grrrrrrr.

No sign of the little one arriving before the induction at the moment, despite our consultant saying she thought she might arrive early. But then am only 38+4 today so I think it'd be too much to expect her sooner anyway.

My OH is desperate for his paternity leave too, mixedmama - I think it's difficult for them to have to work right up to the arrival and not have any time to chill/focus on the baby without having to think about work too.

Anyway, hope everyone is feeling good - and look forward to some new arrivals...

Medee · 28/02/2011 12:04

mama this is our first, but we've already been pretty clear about visitors. GPs can come for a day visit in first couple of days, no overnight stay. They can come for a longer visit in a few weeks. Other visitors to text ahead. No hospitality other than access to our kitchen for self-service will be offered.

Medee · 28/02/2011 12:08

eurgh at the fleas, Spaceal.

I've forgotten, but why are they inducing you early?

TooImmature2BMum · 28/02/2011 12:24

We've done something similar to Medee, after much discussion. It's hard-going when most relatives live over 3 hours drive away! You don't want to tell them they can't stay when they have to come so far. However, it is now arranged that my mum will stay at my sister's and visit from there; my dad will stay at my uncle's and ditto; and DH's parents will stay in a hotel as they haven't any relatives near us. DH's parents were a bit sniffy about this, despite telling us they knew all about how fraught it was to be new parents. Well, if you understand so well, back off! I wouldn't have minded Mum staying, but we decided it was fairer if no one could stay. Then we are going to arrange weekend visits in a few weeks' time.

Urgh, Midlothian Council are resurfacing the road right outside my living room windows. It is not pleasant to have workies looking in the window, but at the same time, I want the road done because it is terrible! They woke me up at half past 8 driving up and down the road and reversing with those annoying beeping noises. As a result, the dog won't settle and keeps barking at them. So far, it's not that loud, but I hope they don't start using a pneumatic breaker or something.

Poor you with the fleas, Spaceal! Just what you didn't need! I hope you get rid of them quickly.

Geek, I can only tell about the BH after the MW felt me have one and told me! She asked if I was having them and I said I didn't think so, and she said well, you just had one! I thought it was the baby squirming. They sort of ripple through my bump, and it does go quite hard.

gem3225 · 28/02/2011 14:44

hi everyone, so lovely to catch up on whats been happening. Congrats to all our new mummies Smile

so exciting.

i am 38 + 5 today, ended up in the day unit after my 38 week app as my BP was high again, protein in urine and signs of an infection (thrush) felt pants and was nervous as had dull period pains and lower back ache. They hooked me up to heart monitor and BP machine, all fine though and they sent me home after 4 hours. Had to be checked the next day and again on friday but BP seems normal.

keeping fingers crossed it doesnt shott up again on wednesday at my next app.

ihave so many things to do before bubs arrives its hard to relax and most importantly my hair needs sorting out Blush want to look my best !!!!

i am generally feeling like a large hephalump now and find getting out of bed quite a challenge. Think i have everything now, just waiting for bath support and moses basket sheets to arrive now. picke dup steriliser off friday ad today for £3, bargain.

anyway lets hope some boys appear soon xx

Hattie05 · 28/02/2011 15:09

Hi all

Chicken pox in 4 yr old has nearly come to the end of its itchiness thank goodness! bless her she has been so good. Now just waiting for the 1 yr old to break out!

This mornings school run has knocked me out for the rest of the day! Thought it was labour, but just simply walking and pushing pram has brought on pains, aches and soreness which meant i've done nothing all day and now just asked a friend to collect dd1 for me as i can't face the walk!

I'd love baby to arrive tonight purely because i can't do 4 more days of the school runs! At least once babies here i know dp will be home to do them.

Gem - hope your BP stays down - i know mine goes up occasionally but never been anything to worry about.

1catherine1 it'd be nice to get out of the house for a few days to have a break! Grin but no, there is no benefit, i had cpox as a child so supposedly shouldn't catch it and the incubation period is prior to spot appearance anyway which means it'd be too late anyway!

Wish everyone well.xx

spaceal · 28/02/2011 16:22

Medee, there's some possible evidence of calcification (?) of my placenta, meaning my obstetrician doesn't want us to wait to go overdue, so we're being induced at 39 weeks.

I guess we're getting to the point where the next arrival really will be a March baby - unless anyone is in labour now Grin

Medee · 28/02/2011 16:28

ah, I see. Not hope the fleas are eradicated quickly.

I felt some twinges this morning, but am certain it is nothing; my main thoughts were "I want my two weeks" and "I want a March baby". The latter is only vaguely rationale as Feb/March is the school cut off in Scotland.

Medee · 28/02/2011 16:28

-not

EvaLongoria · 28/02/2011 16:50

Lozario The doc finally prescribed Diprobase but its not really helping much. I was advised to try Eurax so will do that tomorrow as unable to get near a shop today.

mixedmama and Lozario I am getting the opposite again with family this side. My own does not live in the UK so only inlaws. Sometimes they are good with DD but most of the time you kind of need to force them to spend time or DH would try and arrange it and since another grandchild was born more than a year ago they spend all the time with that one.

spaceal I would probably clean out the little ones things again. Luckily ours arent fleas related because at least you know there would be an end to it. Also cleaning all the carpets tomorrow and that would make sure that all is nice and clean. Good luck with inducement

Hattie I know what you mean about the walking i feel exactly the same. 2 of the roads that I must use are all uphill and I dread it everytime. Thought I was just dropping her off today and then childminder collects and DH pick her up from work but childminder text to say she is ill, I therefore had to 3 hours later walk again to collect her on top of not getting a well-deserved sleep that I was looking forward to.

Have you all got your bags packed and ready? I bought few things couple of weeks ago and only buying more tomorrow and then finally packing it. Hopefully ready for hospital

Jupiter118 · 28/02/2011 17:45

niamh - did your pains settle down. Many sympathies I have been having similar for over 2 weeks now having lost my pluggy thing at 34+5 and the whole steroids/hospital business. 37 weeks exactly now so anytime would be good Grin. Never had any of this in first pregnancy.

hattie chickenpox ? hope it is not too bad ? not great timing ? hope perhaps 1 year old escapes.

lozario hope your random foot swelling has gone down!

Geek BM clearouts ? again same here ? after any reasonable size meal and before bed every night. Never had this with DS either.

medee good for you for setting clear guidelines. Remember feeling like a zoo exhibit after DS 1. Both my parents and ILs did stay in hotels though ass opposed to with us. Suspect one set might need to stay with us this time to help with DS.

gem - hope BP settles down and behaves itself.

itching ladies - have you tried calamine (can you in pregnancy) or bicarb soda in the bath. Waitrose bottom butter (basically olive oil butter) is also v good ? we use it for DS eczema ? tis completely natural.

Been to Sainsburys this pm ? was exhausting (sorry am pathetic), but did a terrible shop ? feeling like baby might drop out of fanjo doesn?t make for economic or sensible shopping. Another massive glob of clear/cream like jelly when I got home though so perhaps things are moving.

I have just watched sky + ER from this morning and wish I hadn?t ? lady with eclamptic fits, crash c-section ? not good.

Right DH and DS will be back any minute. Here?s to lots more lovely arrival news this week!!!! (waves to everyone)

gem3225 · 28/02/2011 17:58

whats the best outfit to bring baby home in, i have a baby grow , little hat etc but now im thinking do i need like a snow suit type of thing as its not that warm or would a blanket be ok???? so confused.com Confused

Larty74 · 28/02/2011 18:16

itching ladies - I heard the other day from a friend of mine, that the itching symptoms were possible signs of things kicking off - apparently happened to a few of her friends who very shortly after noticing it, they gave birth! who knows tho as it's a common pregnancy thing anyway.

Geek - had the same two things as you just the other night re BM/white stuff, but not much since.

Gem - I questioned whether or not to invest in a pramsuit type thing as well, but have decided against and feel that layers/blankets/hats will be fine-even w/ the most unpredictable weather.

Ladies - my bets are on a massive flurry of activity within a week's time. which week that is, who knows, but we shall see! Grin

Can I just say how much I am loving online grocery shopping at the moment. was going to make my last dash to sainsburys today, couldn't bear the thought or feel due to horrid back/hip pains. what a life-saver!

Hopefully I will be on my way to the airport tomorrow to pick up my parents (DH driving)or hopefully not??? Shock

gem3225 · 28/02/2011 18:29

thanks for advice larty

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/02/2011 18:36

Finegrs crossed some of the symptoms mentioned are things starting for some of you. Echo wanting it to kick off so I dont have to do the schoo run. It isnt even far and there are no hills.

My ILS are south asian so although they only live up the road (abotu 20 min bus ride) they will turn up (aunties uncles etc) with 5 kids each and stay all afternoon and expect tea etc, pick up baby when he cries and try to sooth and walk about the house with him etc - it all get sme down. TBH they will only visit once but it is such a pressure. Not sure how we go forward either as DC normally spend Sundays there - I have a difficult (but better nowadays) relationship with them so put in an appearance every few weeks as they have problems listening to my wishes re:DC so am wondering how we go about allowing them the equal access mentioned below without me having to spend too much time. I suspect they will just have to see baby less than the bigger ones.

Sorry a bit ranty, the experience was awful with DS1 and lasted over a year so I got a little stressed about it all last timme too but it was much better so I am prob stressing over nothing.

Fingers crossed for some overnight babies to kick March off.

LovelyKatie · 28/02/2011 18:42

Hi Everyone

Not a regular poster on this thread I didnt know it existed!

I am 38+4 today.

feel very good
my belly is so so hard.

im still getting so much movement but my midwife said it wasnt going to be a big baby! (my 1st)

just wanted to ask if theres anything I should be looking out for now in this last 10 days? I am still getting the sludgy cheese like discharge (sorry for TMI!!)

and severe back pain but other than that nothing as of yet.

I do have everything packed and ready although when I got my pram delivered on friday I wasnt happy that I didnt get the shopping basket as I think its bloody well needed!! (silver cross surf!)

GeekLove · 28/02/2011 20:00

Katie and spaceal Hi due date buddies! 38+4 today myself and nothing define as yet. Last time round (TMI warning) at this point I had a thick white/ pale pink discharge which I reckon was the show spread out over 3 days. So far there is none of that.
Mind you taking DS swimming damn near killed me and I got a stitch from walking up the hill. Ive noticed I flake out for a couple of hours around 17.00 every evening.
Last time I only got to 39w so I am watching everything like a hawk.

Niknan · 28/02/2011 20:42

Have been to the hospital today for a doppler scan as my blood test last Thurs came back that one of my weird antibody has increased significantly. Baby is fine where it is for the mo, but got to go back next Mon for a growth scan and a sweep so fingers crossed baby will be here early.

Still no exchange or completion date on the house move so everything is getting a bit stressful at the mo as can't plan anything.

Hope all you ladies suffering with itching, aches etc feel better soon and looking forward to hearing news of the next arrival!

EvaLongoria · 28/02/2011 21:27

Jupiter Thanks for advice. No have not tried calamine. And DD had chicken pox in the beginning of pregnancy but was adviced not to use calamine and therefore do not have any at home. Will have a little look tomorrow. Cant believe you went shopping in Sainsbury's hopefully it was not too big a shop. I am doing an online one either tonight after watch One Born Every Minute or tomorrow.

Larty Oh I hope so (So we are now known as Itching Ladies). It does feel like baby is about to drop out. I cant compare with previous pregnancy though cos DD was so lazy that I never even experienced Braxton Hicks and everything was done for us (induced, waters broken, etc) and she was 15 days late.

Gem Also wondering about what to get to bring baby home in with DD it was end Oct so a newborn suit worked fine. Not sure now.

Katie Welcome to the thread. I cant believe you all sorted. Hope you get shopping basket. We bought lovely buggy in Jan Sales and had a really good deal but only sorting house out now. Was studying and finished Semester now mid-Feb and can finally see to my neglected daughter and equally neglected house. Therefore baby cant come as yet. Need a week to get all settled

Niknan Hope doppler scan goes ok and glad to hear baby is all ok. At least at this point its safe enough to deliver baby if anything goes slightly wrong.

EvianBaby · 28/02/2011 22:38

Can I join the itchy ladies?!? Currently scratching as I type - sorry!! I have made my skin red raw in places, will mention it at MW appt on Thurs.

How thought provoking/upsetting was OBEM? I was in tears. It made me realise that although I am hoping for a straight forward, calm and uneventful vaginal birth after the emergency, very stressful c section I had last time, really how the baby gets here isn't that important, what is important is that he/she is healthy. I have given myself a good talking to (after the tears stopped!)

How is everyone? Is there no one in labour? It sounds like everyone is as keen as me for the next birth!

Take care girls, welcome to the newbies, just in time for the excitement! Smile

coraltoes · 01/03/2011 08:19

IT IS MARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

woooooh!!!

gem3225 i was told to bring baby home in a vest, sleepsuit, maybe a snowsuit if very cold (it is cold today for example, only 5 degrees in London) and a hat. I am sure you can swaddle bubs in a thick blanket and ignore the snowsuit option!

OBEM was really upsetting last night. The poor woman and her losses! Thank god she got a healthy baby at the end of it.
Must say i didnt like the birth partner in the other pair...worrying about what he'd look like in scrubs when his wife was about to give birth to twins in theatre?! get a grip! I didn't catch their ages...maybe that would go some way to explaining his immature attitude?

Larty online shopping is the only way I shop now. I cannot drag my heavy butt around the supermarkets...not without a tantrum anyway.

Good luck to the itchy ladies, I hope your various causes settle down soon!!
