New thread here for those final few weeks (fingers crossed!)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well i've had a shit day but could have been much worse. Had my GP appointment check up where I was told bluntly the baby's heartbeat was dipping and I needed to get myself to hospital to go on a trace. He then proceeded to shuffle me out of his office with no words of reassurance or anything. Once on the street started to panic and called DH at work in tears as I didn't have a taxi number. Anyway, long story short everything is fine. Been hooked up to a monitor for 2 1/2 hours and lo is just fine and heartbeat is just fine too. Really can't stand my GP - no empathy and everytime I go in he always says 'I thought I didn't have to see you - don't you just go to the midwife?' Have to constantly remind him I have appointments with both.
Anyway, my DH is being lovely and now I am waiting for the pram to arrive although it is definitely not coming into the house after the day i've had.

Sorry for the rant.
travis i feel for your dh. I failed my test in the summer and was gutted as other than my 1 major I did really well Hmm
However, good news is baby's heartbeat is good AND I am fully engaged and ready to go. Just waiting for some signs now but still another week to go until edd anyway ...

LadyBuzz · 14/01/2011 15:21

salt what a twunt your GP sounds, great that everything is ok though!

Crystylline · 14/01/2011 15:34

salt slap the bugger! v. glad you're ok now though.

p.s - just found this thread and thought I'd read it to cheer myself up. i'm now PMSL and have stopped worrying:

RunningKatie · 14/01/2011 15:41

Salt - jeez, you poor thing, that's appalling of your GP.

Travis, that's a shame for your DH, I too failed twice. First time I pulled out in front of a lorry, second time I managed to fail getting out of the test centre, third time I sailed around wittering at the examiner that I'd got the grades for Uni the previous day - so whilst I made mistakes I got myself out of them, either that or he just wanted me to shut up.

I have just been to Homebase with my Mum, we're stood looking at wallpaper and she was complaining they didn't have the one she wanted. So, I naively asked when she got the sample - and she said she got it from B&Q. Confused I didn't have enough sleep last night to deal with this!

Looks like the first of the NCT babies has made their photographic debut on FB. And, his name isn't one on our list too Wink

RockLover · 14/01/2011 15:44

Travis I'm not secretly dreading childbirth, I'm very openly dreading it lol! Your friend is right, it does hurt, however you deal with the pain at the time and then it all fades into insignificance when you have that beautiful baby in your arms.

Just picked DD up from school and her teacher stopped me to comment on how well her writing is coming along, DD even has a beautiful writing certificate. I feel all tearful about it lol, damn these hormones Grin. It has brightened up my day no end though.

mimou · 14/01/2011 18:08

Hello ladies,

Guess what - I found my inner coffee plunger rather unexpectedly last night!

DS2 arrived at 5.40am at 38weeks (3.325 kg) after only a four hour labour (TENS + Gas & Air) and two stitches. Sooo much better than last time!

Got to the hospital just in time for antibiotics for Strep B but in fact my waters broke so late in the process that they reckon there was little chance of passing any infection anyway and we were allowed home this afternoon. Good job I finished re-reading the birthskills book last night!

Fuzzywood · 14/01/2011 18:15

Wow, Mimou that's fantastic news, well done you! What's the weight in pounds and ounces, brain not working well enough to do the calculation! Yay!

Crystylline · 14/01/2011 18:18

7.3lbs Fuzzy

Mimou - huge congrats! That's wonderful news.

hope you are snuggling and cuddling your new arrival and enjoying every moment.

gallicgirl · 14/01/2011 18:22

yay that's what we like to hear. Well done mimou and so glad you're little one arrived safely.

Fuzzywood · 14/01/2011 18:28

Thanks Crystylline Smile

CupcakesHay · 14/01/2011 18:29

OOOOOoooooh! how exciting! Well done Mimou! Lovely and quick.... you make it sound easy! Grin

Poor poor you salt i echo lady buzz - what a twunt. Not long now with having to put up with your GPs unhelpfulness.

And love your thinking rock about openly dreading it.

I've had an ok day - spoke to DH on phone earlier, who actually said he was missing me without me prompting him Wink and he put one of my cats on the phone who was purring Grin it's the small things that keep me happy.

Think the baby is trying to engage - he just keeps moving - earlier I was all comfy, like i've been for weeks and now he's gone uncomfy again - and def pressing down below. Haven't got midwife til next thurs - so we'll see then.

Oh and very pleased about your DD rock - bet you felt lovely and proud - and i'm sure things like that make it all worthwhile. Are you feeling a bit better? Managed to eat anything?

RockLover · 14/01/2011 18:58

Yes very proud Cupcake! I have managed to eat today, but most of it junk, DP bought pizza for dinner so I had a couple of slices of that, but I didn't want to eat too much as tummy is still sensitive.

Well done Mimou, I'm so jealous that your pregnancy is over lol, I hope I get as quick a birth as yours! :)

gallicgirl · 14/01/2011 19:40

My DP is cooking a huge chicken curry for dinner and it smells amazing. Hope it does the trick but suspect it will just make baby kick me all night!

ZippyPippy · 14/01/2011 20:53

Hi all, just a quickie to update you - my little boy was born yesterday morning weighing 7lbs. I got into the pool and pushed for a couple of hours but he had some trouble coming out and they had to use foreceps. I'm still in hospital and feel a bit battered but he was worth it and is gorgeous.

Fuzzywood · 14/01/2011 21:07

Huge congratulations Zippy we thought you'd been a bit quiet on here. Well done you and welcome to the world to your DS x

LadyBuzz · 14/01/2011 21:30

Oooh 2 babies congratulations mimou & zippy.

Aww so many babies now.

SaraL77 · 14/01/2011 21:33

Congratulations Mimou and Zippy! I know I'm new here but it's still great to hear of births and happy mums! Making me very impatient to meet mine!

can anyone remind me (who are on their 2nd+) do contractions ever start out like Braxton hicks? I can't remember if I had tightening of the stomach with my 'real' contractions or if it was all down below. Getting a lot of braxton hicks- but then still technically have 2 weeks to go...

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 14/01/2011 21:39

quick wap spy, huge congrats to you mimou and zippy - clever things :)

Fuzzywood · 14/01/2011 21:43

Sara I didn't get any BH the first time around but as I understand it they can get more frequent the closer you get, I've been having quite a few this time so fingers crossed something might happen for both of us soon!

RockLover · 14/01/2011 21:45

Congratulations Zippy, glad you're now enjoying your little one.

Sara, I didn't get any BH contractions at all in my 1st pregnancy, just went straight in the period pain type contractions. I haven't had any BH with this one either, but I guess all labours are different so BH's could be normal for you.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Does anyone else's baby keep getting hiccups in the womb? This little one seems to be getting them most days! Saaying that, DD was the same and had hiccups all the time. Does it mean anything?

mimou · 15/01/2011 01:46

Congratulations Zippy! Have a speedy recovery.

Sara, I didn't have BH in my first pg and labour started with period pains, but this time I had loads and when I woke up this time yesterday I thought it was just BH to begin with because my bump was completely rigid. Proper contractions set in about 30 mins later though and were about 45 seconds apart right from the beginning so I soon figured out it was the real thing!

CupcakesHay · 15/01/2011 03:18

It's getting so exciting now isn't it! well done zippy very pleased for you! How absolutely lovely Grin

I'll do the list (again Smile)

Well - i went to bed at 9pm as I was falling asleep on the sofa, and then i'm wide awake at 3.15am - grr. And starved so i just had cheese and biscuits. Baby sitting funny again, no shocker there... and my stupid ribs are still hurting.

And suddently started dreading DH coming over as i've had the bed to myself for the last 9 weeks or so.... Shock and how's he going to cope with my constant wiggling around and stealing all the duvet and getting up and readign for half an hour and stuff?

sara i've been having the odd BH - and lately they've been getting a little more frequent - but when i asked M/W she just said that the body does them to prepare, and not neccessarily a sign that labour's imminent (sp?)

rock if your baby hiccups it means you need lots of chocolate cake after the birth. Grin

pootle are you out there with a bunch of plumbers?

And nice to see you briefly bubba we miss your wise words of wisdom - when's your internet gonna be fixed?

Right - going to fill a hot water bottle for my ribs and try and sleep.... Bear - i love that emoticon....!

ps. gallic chicken curry sounds amazing. As soon as my DH gets to Devon i'm going to have curry and chinese!

PS. Devon girls - do you get that annyoing advert for Sparkworld on your TV? I can't stop the jingle going round my head "See it... buy it... take it away at sparkworld, sparkworld"

(that was for the benefit of those who don't get the jingle!Grin)
