Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LadyBuzz · 14/01/2011 07:56

cupcake take it all with a pinch of salt Grin I think some people forget how confusing having your first baby can be!!

Well I've placed my order for Krispy Kremes, My DB & SIL are coming up from Worcester and will be passing a stockist so I've asked him in advance to stop for me. Grin have to wait until the 29th though - boo!

DH finishes work tonight eeek its all getting a bit real now!!

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 14/01/2011 08:39

still no baby here and no internet. i'm v proud of my wapability though! Lots of opinions here on MN as in RL but more aggressive on MN. Lol at ordering KKs from Worcs ladyB :) 4 days to go! WooiWooh!

RunningKatie · 14/01/2011 09:04

Bad night here last night - it was a 5 spoons of gaviscon and a 2am wander to the sofa for a change of scenery.

I ate like a horse yesterday, baby seemed quite happy with that!

Today I'm going to learn about arnica and slings, which you were all talking about weeks ago but which at 2am started to worry me. Sometimes I feel very under-prepared.

Where's Zippy?

Crystylline · 14/01/2011 09:13

methinks/hopes Zippy is probably buried under a pile of nappies with a beautiful baby nestled in her arms.

ditto flora.

bump had a hectic day yesterday and BH all over the place. not calmed this morning as yet.

antenatal class was ok, but not all that useful really. hoping the active birthing calss next week is more use.

katie i massively sympathise - i made myself sick with heartburn a couple of nights ago. I don't understand why it's suddenly got so bad all over again.

arnica - buy gel or cream where the active arnica ingredient is in the first 5-10 on the ingredients list. most of the mainstream brands - nelsons, boots etc only have the tiniest amount in and are bloody useless.

the moby wrap is the sling i bought, which is fine for up to a year. i was talking to a friend the other day who said it's a good idea to buy two (if you get one with it), because then you have a spare when it's been puked on Grin.

hang in there bubba! nearly there

RockLover · 14/01/2011 09:13

Morning ladies. Still feeling bleugh this morning after my tummy upset last night, but at least managed to get DD to school somehow.

Breakfast has been utter crap, biscuits and plain crisps are all I could face. So much for cutting out the sugar and my iron intake has gone out the window as I can't take the tabs when I already have a gurgly tummy.

Thank Christ it's the weekend tomorrow, I can't be doing with early starts feeling like this. I really want to feel better so that I can be in a decent state of mind to get through the birth.

I am going to do feck all today, apart from put a wash on. I think my body has finally given up so I'm going to rest up completely.

RockLover · 14/01/2011 09:16

I third the heartburn Katie and Crysty, it was horrific last night. Then it woke me up this morning when I hadn't even had anything to eat or drink ffs!

Fuzzywood · 14/01/2011 09:43

Morning all, sorry to hear some of you are suffering hope it improves today.
Running I found arnica tablets helped as well as the cream, Boots do 2 different strengths, get the strongest ones Smile.
Cupcakes don't worry about the feeding responses you get, it's such an emotive subject and everyone seems to have an opinion on it. Like I said Gina didn't do it for me but really worked well for some friends. I just keep remembering what the very nice and sensible HV said to me when DD was a few weeks old - "happy mummy happy baby". So you do what feels right for you.
Better get dressed, promised DD I'd take her to the farm this morning, DH working from home so need to get out if his hair for a while too. I'll catch up with the rest of the gossip later.

CupcakesHay · 14/01/2011 09:49

rock you'll baby'll be fine without the tiny bit of iron for a while. Main thing is he needs you to feel strong - so if eating biscuits does it carry on! Poor poor you!

Even i had heartburn last night - I must have caught it from you lot Grin it was horrid! Now i know how horrid you've been feeling.

Still dead uncomfy - the baby moved comfy for all of 5 minutes last night! I slept on my stupid sore ribs - which prob wasn't best idea asthey're now killing me.

I'm going floating this morning - and hoping no grumpy old men tsk at me for getting in the way as i cling to the shallow end like a beached whale!

Katie if you are looking into slings - let me know which one would be good for my Dh - he's 6ft2! Cheeky aren't i! i can't see him with a material one - and i really can't be bothered to look into strappy bits and pieces....

4 days bubba bloody hell - where did that go? Proise to log in for half a second after baby is here just to tell us what it is!

And yes crysty agree completely about zippy and flora and piles of nappies!

ladybuzz MMMMmmmmmm don't start us on the KKs again, otherwise we'll have to ban that word like we did with the Ing word! Wink

CupcakesHay · 14/01/2011 09:50

weird - that was meant to be i_n_g - but i forgot about the weird thing of crossing out on MN! Well - you know what i meant!

RockLover · 14/01/2011 10:12

I will attempt to have some Spatone later to get a bit of iron into me, but you're right about the biscuits etc cupcakes.

I suppose the upset tummy shouldn't surprise me as I have IBS so I am prone to it (was dreadful in the first trimester), but I really need to feel a bit more perky or labour is going to be horrendous.

I can't even sleep during the day as it seems to make me anxious, my mind is not able to switch off or relax at the moment. Would love to not feel sick for a day!

travispickles · 14/01/2011 11:01

Rock - same here! I finally fell asleep at 5am today and have had a total of 3 hours. I am aso finding it difficult to just switch off and am dreading labour if my starting point is this!! I have had 3 nights of struggling now, bloody hope tonight is different! So frustrating. Have a friend coming today but feel so antisocial. Also my OH doing his driving test now so nervous, dreading it if he fails (he gets so nervous he will probably screw it up!) as we are running out of time!! My DD Monday and apt for sweep Wednesday if no sign. Also too many exclamation marks. Clearly overwrought...

travispickles · 14/01/2011 11:02

.... and suffering miseries of heartburn/ indigestion. Grrrrrrrrrr... Angry

Crystylline · 14/01/2011 11:12

rock not sure if you've tried it, but...

cereals have fortified iron in them, and cheese is also high in iron.

you could try both. cereals will also help with digestion (high fibre).

I love spinach and broccoli, so i try and eat lots of them too.

travispickles hope your OH passes his test. he can't do any worse than me on my first attempt - i crashed into another car and took its wing mirror off! Grin

that's early for a sweep too... isn't it? our mw team only do a sweep when you get to 40+7-10.

oh and asked aobut group b strep test - only available privately down here and MWs re-assured me that any sign post-birth of infection and they then test and act immediately. otherwise, they posed that there was a risk of unecessary intervention prior to and during labour. this is bvearing in mind that lots of us have B strep in our systems all the time.

Not wholly convinced i have to say, but apparently they can pick in up in your urine tests if it's a risk anyway.

cyberfairy · 14/01/2011 11:32

I identify with the sleeplessness/restlessness-I have been sleeping so badly but when I shut my eyes to try and have a nap, just can't do it, too much going on inside my head to just switch off. Finding Radio 4 quite good to vaguely focus on before drifting off.
I am off to a windy cold Morecambe to blow away the cobwebs and poke about fusty charity shops-finding it very hard to stay in, climbing the walls by nine in the morning. Think I am too used to running around at work and just can't relax for long. And had forgotten how shit daytime telly is!
Oh and another one here gorging on choccies...

RockLover · 14/01/2011 12:21

Oooh gooh luck to your OH Travis, I really hope he passes. I am in a similar position as my DP doesn't drive, but he doesn't want to. So as the only driver in the house is me, we're having to arrange a lift to the hospital when the time comes.

I have managed a sort of nap this morning, on the sofa with the tv on in the background, that seemed to help. Still feel utterly rubbish though, sicky and my tummy is sore and unsettled. Dreading the school run later, I have to leave stupidly early in order to get a parking space in the car park and the waiting around does not help my nausea.

I've got to the point where I just don't want to leave the house at all now until D-day, I just don't feel well enough to be out and about. I was fine at this point with DD and was eating out at an italian restaraunt the night before I went into labour. Won't be doing that this time round.

CupcakesHay · 14/01/2011 13:25

Oooh - i feel great after my float swim! Really refreshed nad my hip is loads better. Although have a feeling my "jungle" might have been on display as at one point, i suddenly got urge to pull swimming cossie down - and thank god I did Blush

Plus just had some lunch and the baby's moved into more of a comfy position. In fact thinking of taking advantage and going for a nap. Feel the same as all of you about the sleeplessness nad lack of sleep - but i reckon our bodies are designed to cope with labour on crappy sleep, aches and pains, etc.

How did your OH do travis?

crysty i think it's quite rare getting strep B so try not to fret - and they do keep an eye out for it afetr birth - i know that for sure as my MW told me same thing.

On the iron front rock - a bit minging - but i remember this from pub quiz - a head of parsely contains your iron content in a day - so if you can manage to just grimace and swallow, you could go down that route?

right - going to make a cup of decaf tea and then dip a ripple in it (like to balance the caffeine there!) Smile

A week today til DH arrives in UK....

travispickles · 14/01/2011 13:28

So annoying! Only 9 minor faults but 1 major - he was asked to pull in on a narrow road, but the car in front puled up onto the pavement so he did the same... So a fail Sad The thing is he gets a big downer on himself "I'll never pass" etc.
Sorry to hear how rubbish you are feeling Rock - have you had sickness all the way through?

RockLover · 14/01/2011 13:35

Sorry to hear about the driving test Travis, tell him not to give up, he'll get there! My dsis took 4 goes and my mum took 3, I passed first time, but not til I was 32 and after 5 different instructors. We're all different, but he'll do it.

I have had constant nausea since I got a positive test result, although haven't actually been sick. Also had diarrhoea constantly in the first trimester due to my ibs, probably why I'm getting tummy troubles again now.

gallicgirl · 14/01/2011 13:46

Is it Rock who needs iron? Is it like vitamins where you also need to take zinc in order to absorb it? I think drinking tea at the same time as eating apparently reduces absorption rates.

CupcakesHay · 14/01/2011 13:55

How annoying for your OH travis - it took my brother 5 tests to pass - I kept buying him chocolate shaped dinosaurs, or what have you from thorntons - and so each time he failed, i'd give it to him even though it had "Congrats Duncs" iced on it... by the 5th time - i gave up and just got "next time" iced on it - and he passed Blush! So maybe i was the jinx?

Very annoying though - i failed first cos a stupid mini pulled up and just opened their door without looking - i should hvae braked, but i swerved... Angry Tell him not to feel too bad.

fuzzy you back from the farm? did you see lots of lovely animals and make all the appropriate noises???

I love ripples. Hopefully, &rock afetr the birth this will all clear up a lot more for oyu - and then I can come and meet you and treat you to a big slab of chocolate cake!Grin

RockLover · 14/01/2011 14:00

Oooh chocolate cake sounds divine cupcake, hopefully i'll be able to eat it with no heartburn afterwards by then lol.

travispickles · 14/01/2011 14:49

LOL at choccy dinosaur with 'Next Time' on it. Oh Yea of Little Faith!! Might do the same for OH next week when he takes it again.
Anyone else secretly dreading childbirth or is that just me (scarred for life by a mother who spent most of my childhood diminishing any aches and pains with " well I don't know how you will get through childbirth if you think that hurts" etc. Powerful stuff to use on a small child.)?? Not helped by people suddenly being honest about it. For ex, my friend who has had 3 came over today and I was bemoaning tiredness and saying how I hoped not to have to go into labour this tired and her laughing "Oh that will be the least of your worries. It really fucking hurts". This from almost everyone I know who has gone through it now, the anecdotes of pain and suffering.

LadyBuzz · 14/01/2011 14:54

rock thats my thinking with the you know whats, DB is coming on the 29th so 11 days post baby i'm hoping the heartburn will have gone and I can enjoy them properly!

Travis better luck next time for OH, it took me over 100 lessons and 3 goes to pass - I was horrendous!

Just got back from Lunching with my aunts and my cousin, lovely little farm shop tea room with fab homemade coleslaw, and 5 mins away too - I will be going again!

gallicgirl · 14/01/2011 14:56

Don't worry about it - your body knows what to do. If it were that bad, people wouldn't do it a second time and hardly anyone gets PTSD. There's some people who think it's fair game to warn pregnant women how bad it is and others who tell them it's a walk in the park. It's probably somewhere in between!

Just relax as much as possible because if you do get stressed, it will be more difficult. Have you done antenatal classes? I can't remember.

Crystylline · 14/01/2011 15:07

travis i'm sorry for your OH! i agree, tis an annoying thing to fail for. However, at least it was something daft and not a lack of skill in driving, so bodes well for next try.

cupcakes you're right. I'll stop obsessing about B Strep (and every other possible problem that could arise).

just went for a bit of a drive; feeling like cabin fever is setting in.

ugh to the pain of childbirth!

everyone keeps telling me different stories/experiences and none of it helps.

Ante natal pictures were wonderfully graphic as well. Why can't i remember these from sex ed classes?

all i keep dwelling on is the embarrassment of potentially being on all fours waving my arse or fanjo in the air for all to bloody see. (this, i know, is a totally ridiculous thing to worry about).

bah, why don't babies just pop out like toast - warm, pleasant smelling and utterly pain-free?
