1Catherine1 · 14/01/2011 10:13

morning ladies,

had a bit of a bad night last night. Before I went to bed I got some bad pains in around my pelvis area. I could barely move or lift my legs so I had to get OH to help me up and limp to bed. I found it hard to get to sleep and then woke up needing to turn over and it took me a full 4 minutes to turn from my right side to my left side because it just hurt so much. Anyone else had this? I need some reassurance that this is normal since it isn't like the back pain I've been suffering with all through pregnancy. I planned to go to the doctor this morning to check it out while my year 10s and year 9s have exams but since there's someone interviewing for my job my HoD had already assigned me plenty of work to do :( She offered to get someone else to do it when she realized but I'm already an inconvenience so I insisted I do it.

[rushes off because remembered I'm supposed to be somewhere... returns 20 minutes later to find I forgot to press post]

Teaching now and being told off for coming in in the first place!

spaceal · 14/01/2011 10:32

Catherine, it definitely takes me time and effort to turn over in the night, I can't just roll over like I'd normally do, I have to build up to it and it definitely hurts. Mostly now it's my hips though, OK when I'm asleep but I can't lie around in bed awake. Ouch.

coraltoes - have you gone for the Stokke Sleepi? It looks amazing, I'm very jealous. It's very cute as well as very practical, but I've already said yes to a friend's second hand one and feel like we should be economising somewhere as everything else seems to add up Confused We've been using the John Lewis nursery list thing to keep track of what we need, even if we don't buy it all there, and just sheets and booties and bottles and steriliser etc. adds up to about £500 - there are a couple of more expensive things in that (Baby Bjorn, breast pump) but mostly just lots of little things.

We'd been umming and aahing about reusable nappies, but I think have decided just to do with disposable ones. Might change our minds after the first few weeks but...

Today's the day I spend working out what I need to do workwise before I finish in a month or so - hopefully there's not too much.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 14/01/2011 10:56

Hello everyone,

Good to see everyone getting excited.

Catherine - wanted to say thanks for keeping the list going. Also, I have to fully wake up each time I need to turn over, sit up and then move.

DH went for his cigarette the other night (in the process of giving this up.... currently down to 4 per day, very proud but wish he would get on with it) and then made a cup a tea and it took the whole time he was gone for me to get off the sofa.

I seem to have expoloded overnight. Up until this point everyone had been saying how small I was this time including DH and last night he just looked at me and said "you are really huge now" and also people who hadnt really noticed I was pregnant are really noticing now.

1Catherine1 · 14/01/2011 12:34

Guy came in for interview for my ML post today and he got the job. So I can happily rest assured that I won't be abandoning my kids. To make it even better he starts on Monday when I still have 7 teaching weeks left. This gives me plenty of time to hand over and my HoD even mentioned the possibility of getting him to teach odd classes of mine so that I can do some sit down work instead (I heard - catch up with marking! Wink) Am slightly concerned that he is commuting Essex to Hampshire as that is one serious trek! I'm hoping he doesn't decide its too much the week after I leave - but I guess I'm just worrying now!

KPidgeon · 14/01/2011 12:36

Catherine I do find it hard to turnover- but I don't have real pain, it's more really awkward and heavy. If it's around your pelvis area it could be SPD? May be just pregnancy pains though- you're one week more pregnant than me so my pain could be just around the corner.

My husband bought me a wedge cushion to go under my bump and that helps to support me.

Heaving myself out of bed to go for a pee every night is still the killer- as by the time I've managed that I am wide awake!

coraltoes · 14/01/2011 15:03

spaceal thats the one. I'm terrible with names. Keep calling things the wrong thing. Totally know what you mean about the cost of things. We went to John Lewis last week to pick up breast pump, baby sling (bjorn thingy) changing mat, towels...all that jazz and left £350 lighter. Terifying how it all adds up!!

Might need to learn an instrument to busk my way through maternity leave and earn some extra ££!

33 weeks this weekend (dates wrong on that chart above but i'm not fussy). That means in 7 weeks time there could well be a baby wriggling in that stokke wotsit!! wow!!

We're doing disposable nappies...am sure i'll have enough washing etc without dealing with natural nappies. I toyed witht he idea of one of those firms that launders them but the carbon footprint of that is as bad as disposable from what i've read, and there is no cost upside.

1Catherine1 · 14/01/2011 15:38

I think you were right KPigeon, just what I need when I already suffer with terrible back ache. I spoke to my physio and that's what she said it sounds like. It has eased off this afternoon though thankfully but not before tiring me out. I'm so exhausted I'm sat at my desk thinking about going home but I don't actually have the energy to get up and move.

Larty74 · 14/01/2011 16:07

Hello all -

Been to GP today (routine) and all is well, LO good size, head down (hurrah!), etc.... Have been referred to physio for pretty severe sacroiliac joint pain. Every step I take it seems pain shoots down my legs. ugh.

Catherine getting pretty uncomfortable and nearly find it impossible to turn over. Last night however, I added another pillow behind me, in addition to two on each side/under knees, so I was almost in a half sitting up position and it was absolute bliss to be able to sleep like that. or just to have the option in addition to either side as by the middle of the night my hips are killing me. Sitting up sleeping doesn't sound right, but all the pillows make it lovely and very supportive on the back. Hang in there!

DH has given the green light to start ordering things like cot/mattress, travel system, etc. have pretty much decided on everything, just gotta do it. Has anyone taken mothercare up on thier price match promise for anything?

RockChick1984 · 14/01/2011 16:20

Hi all,

can someone add me to the list please, only got Internet on my phone so can't copy and paste

18/3 Rockchick1984 pg1 baby boy

Not used the mothercare price promise, but I've found loads of stuff is cheaper in babies r us, and it all seems lovely. Got our cot from there, the staff were really friendly and helpful.

My hips are killing me at night, have had to get up a few times and sleep on the couch instead - we have recliners so it's pretty comfortable but dh isn't very impresses when he wakes up with no quilt!!! Biggest problem I'm having at the moment is my hands and feet swelling, I've put on 1 and a half stone so not excessive, am hoping it's just water retention making me swell up, I can't get my wedding ring on or hardly any pairs of boots!

JoJoB77 · 14/01/2011 16:39

Afternoon all

mixedmama I seem to have exploded in the last few days too - feel really heavy and uncomfortable and there's still loads of fat to come! (Baby's, not mine - naive smiley).

1Catherine1 like others have said, I'm finding it mammoth task to turn over and get myself up out of bed but no huge pain from it.

To be honest it's freaking me out how much bigger I'm going to get and I'm one of the last to pop on this list! Confused

Medee · 14/01/2011 16:48

I have, larty, and it worked out really well. We ordered our pram using the ?baby plan?, so you got 10% off there and then and only have to pay a 10% deposit (and refundable £10 set-up fee). I then found it cheaper on Amazon. So, the chassis, for example, cost £400. We had ordered at £360. Amazon were selling it at £315. Mothercare then matched that, and took the original discount off, so £315 less £40, meaning we only paid £275. I was seriously impressed, though had only expected them to match the discounted price to the Amazon price (ie 360-315). All I did was take the print out from Amazon into the shop. Not sure if our assistant was overly generous, but there was absolutely no quibble whatsoever. This applied to all 4 items of the travel system as well, so well over £100 saved. All due to be delivered on 1 March, and you can add to the Baby Plan if you intend to buy other stuff at Mothercare, or have others buy things for you. Only downside is that it isn?t currently manageable online, though we don?t intend to buy anything else big from them.

Larty74 · 14/01/2011 18:58

Thanks Medee as we do intend to by the cot/mattress from them as well.

Getting very freaked out here as well as to recent growth and how much bigger/longer we have to go.....and DH is leaving me tomorrow for a week - no one to put my shoes on for me! Sad

pettyprudence · 14/01/2011 19:22

I keep getting confused as to why its such a struggle to get up/out of bed/sofa! I don't feel very big and cumbersome but clearly am!

I have been extremely lucky though with sleeping (unless baby bounces on my bladder and I have to attempt to get up!) but walking or doing activities for even a short time leaves me in a lot of pain at my lower back/pelvis - double GRRR as my mctimoney chiropractor has given up work and her replacement isn't available when i am :(

haloflo · 14/01/2011 19:32

Wow, heading for a new thread soon!

larty I can't believe how much I am growing either, especially with 9 weeks to go! Sorry to hear about the sciatic pain. Weirdly I had pain like this from about 9 -14 weeks & then it went. I found hot/cold pads worked well but may have just been lucky when it went.

superpenguin Hope the growth scan goes well. I would would like another scan although not the worry of a very big baby! I am going to start going to aqua natal on tuesdays too. Mine is during work time so I've taken a coupe of days off and then I plan to go during ML. As I may only be able to go to about 4 sessions I got a cheap maternity swimsuit from matalan, its not bad for £12.

I also find a pillow between the legs is very comfy. I have a long sausage one, its almost like a whole other person in my bed!

Hi all

Oooh this thread is moving super fast now - excellent! So much interesting stuff to read, although I don't seem to have anything as exciting to say!

1Catherine1 - well done for maintaining the thread, it's gaining in popularity daily!

Re: Cot v cotbed - we bought a cotbed for DS. I am going to use this for this baby and move DS to a bed. I worked out that the new baby could then use it as a bed when the time comes.

Getting bigger/weight gain - I feel HUGE! I have another growth scan on Monday so we'll have a clearer idea if the baby is responsible for my large bump or not then! I have put just under two stone on, was just over 9 stone before. I'm hoping breastfeeding will cause it to drop off like last time (ooh and no time to eat!). I am finding it so hard to just function normally though! I get ligament pain if i walk more than about 250 metres, feel constantly tired and lack motivation at work!... I finish work on 1st Feb and am counting down the days.

Any other name ideas from anyone? Have you all decided or are you like me, have 3 or 4 that you just can't decide between?

We have the in laws here this weekend, helping us build furniture, paint etc. The implication of that is I can't hang around on the sofa tomorrow night with my slightly too small pj's on and my naked bump out! Well I could if I wanted but then FIL might not know where to look!

Oh lovely, Matt le Blanc is on Graham Norton and looks rather delicious, might go and watch him! x

Medee · 15/01/2011 09:27

We're nowhere near deciding a name. I'm nearly finished making a list, and MrM is in the process of doing the same, and then we are going to compare and see where we end up!

Muser · 15/01/2011 10:13

We have names, but it's a secret.

Hi ladies!

Great reading through all the exciting banter, good news and purchases :)

I haven't been around much lately as I made a New Years' resolution to spend less time on mumsnet and facebook. I'm trying to get as much written on my PhD thesis before the baby arrives! But I really do enjoy reading all the good news.

I love One Born Every Minute. For some reason, it doesn't scare me but makes me think "ah, phew, it all turns out in the end". I think watching it will make it a little less scary when I go through it. I sob my way through it, though.

Jeffily congrats on your exciting move to the country! And great that your partner has a less-than-full-time role so he can develop other interests/careers etc.

I'm definitely a weight gainer. My cheeks look a bit chipmunk-y. Happy with my body though.

Lots of love to you all x

Larty74 · 15/01/2011 12:47

Hurray! One cotbed/mattress ordered and caught it in the mothercare sale. love a good deal. went for a really good mattress as cot was £50 less than usual. This could be very dangerous what w/ DH away. Grin

Going to attempt a dog walk and see how my back holds up.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to a solid week of putting my feet up and catching up w/ my shows. FINALLY, some good stuff is back on: Glee, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Wife, Downton Abbey, OBEM. should keep me occupied I think!

Have a good weekend all.

Jupiter118 · 15/01/2011 16:40

I think the nesting urge is kicking in!!! No idea there were so many old magazines under the bed Shock Only trouble is that the mess seems to get worse before it gets better.

Larty - which mattress did you go for - need to order a new one.

Right off to finish the tidying and shower - work christmas party tonight - always is in January - hoping to accessorise to distract from whale like nature of my middle.

Hello to all hope having nice weekends!!

Cx

Ps names no further than a shortlist here - oh well

edeluna · 15/01/2011 18:27

Hi, I hope everyone's having a lovely weekend. I went to my first NCT Nearly New Sale this morning -- got loads of great stuff really cheap, so I'm chuffed. Exhausted, but chuffed.

Quick question/request for advice:

I ordered a Maxi-Cosi car seat from Amazon the other day and it arrived today. I'm a bit uncomfortable about it: it wasn't in a manufacturer's box (just in a plastic bag inside a big cardboard box) and although it has all the tags on it, there's no user manual or anything.

Could anyone else who has bought one new confirm what yours came with? I'd at very least expect a manual (how else am I supposed to know how to properly install it?) and a warranty card or something.

Right now I'm leaning towards returning it. And not looking forward to that hassle.

Medee · 15/01/2011 18:40

MIne doesn't come until 1 March, so won't be able to help, but I would certainly expect a lot more than that. Did it come from Amazon themself, or another seller?

Medee · 15/01/2011 18:44

Their website under FAQs mentions user instructions, so it would seem reasonable to expect that. e.g.

How long is my car seat guaranteed for?All the details of the guarantee are carefully explained in the user instructions (and on this site) under the section ?guarantee?.Contact your retailer to claim under any guarantee. It is from the retailer that you bought the product. We also state the exceptions and you will find a number of maintenance tips to extend the life of your product.Your retailer can give you excellent information on this.

Medee · 15/01/2011 18:45

You can download one, though

We have lost the instruction manual. Where can I get a new one?You can download new user instructions via this website.Go to the required product and ?click? on instructions or user manual. The user instructions are here in a PDF file.
