Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
1Catherine1 · 10/01/2011 22:22

Sorry ladies but I'm not encouraged to watch that program at all. I see it like my anti-D injection, injection 1 I wasn't expecting to hurt but it did, now I know it hurts injection 2 is going to be torture. Comparing child birth to an injection is probably a bad example really but surely you get my point Grin

I'll stick to my books - they don't scream at me.

Jupiter118 · 11/01/2011 10:04

Morning - my turn to procrastinate today as now working at home. Went to the office, but realised upon arrival that had left the iron on, cab home, iron was on - now turned off Blush and working here now as time wasted already and need to do handover notes. Motivation levels about -10 though.

Weighing myself - haven't myself, but have been weighed at hospital (didn't really want to know) and about 1.5 stones so far and was overweight before Sad. Weightwatchers beckons (how soon can you join???) as we are going on a big family holiday to gulf coast in Floriday on June 11th so will need to act as quickly as possible.

Didn't watch OBEM, though would have quite liked to. But first time ladies remember comparatively to time generally it is over relatively quickly and you know that the pain will end and the end result is worth it!! DS' birth was an induction, quite intense and painful, but quite short and afterwards tbh the memory is quite hazy (might have been the pethidine which I thought was great). And during proceedings a whole marching band could have come through for a look and I wouldn't have given a hoot.

Right handover notes...

StrangewaysHereICome · 11/01/2011 10:18

Hi all

Sam spatone is a liquid supplement (iron rich water if I remember rightly) that you can add to orange juice. It worked for me and it doesn't constipate you like tablets can. You can get it in Boots and health shops. HTH

Jeffily how exciting for you. I grew up in the Westcountry and miss it sooo much so a tiny bit Envy! We are midlanders now and I just miss the sea so very much. My parents are still down there so it is fab to see them, and I appreciate it so much more than I did when I lived there!

I watched OBEM, but as it's my third it didn't frighten me too much. Anyone who saw it, please remember it's unusual to scream quite that much - even the mw's were amazed! Hope it didn't scare you all too much, from my experience it wasn't that traumatic.

Right I must get back to my nesting, the kitchen cupboards are calling (this is so weird I rarely get impulsions to clean!)

KPidgeon · 11/01/2011 11:09

Thanks for your nice words on OBEM Strange I started off being a bit concerned about the extreme screaming then we both ended up laughing because even the MWs were laughing weren't they. I hope I'm quieter!

That lad Ralph was so sweet at the end. When he wanted a hug that set me off crying.

1Catherine1 · 11/01/2011 11:32

Strange, if you run out of places to clean my house is in desperate need of a pregnant woman to apply her nesting instincts. I think mine are faulty as they don't seem to be working. Although... I really must do some cleaning at work too... can't imagine someone else trying to teach in this mess. Blush

Task for today - clear my desk,
Estimated time to do - about an hour

mixedmamameansbusiness · 11/01/2011 12:33

Hello all.

I love watching birth programmes. I am reliably informed by DH that I am noisy but in no way anywhere near that lady last night and with DS2 only because no one would believe me that he was coming out (i was right). I thought it was a bit sad that Ralph didnt get to be involved as much as he wanted really, he looked really deflated when the mum went off with her daughter.

I have soem ferrous suphate now as my levels were 9.9 I think. I did use spatone last time though as I hated the green poo that seemed to occur from the pills. So far just using them though.

DS2 3rd bday today so had a weekend of family, have been to toddler group with cake this morning, a friend on her way round with his little friend this afternoon and another friend round after school.... manic today.

Look after yourselves ladies.

StrangewaysHereICome · 11/01/2011 12:46

That's okay pidgeon she was obviously very vocal! It is a shame they didn't get her to change positions to see if that helped. I definitely found walking round and being on all fours the most comfy for me. I don't think I screamed but I might have mooed a bit!! I cried buckets for Ralph, he was so sweet and it must have been awful not to have been allowed in to see his son born - so hard for him Sad

Aw Catherine I am not sure my energy levels extend to other people's houses Wink. Do you finish work soon? Good luck with your desk! And thanks for reminding me about the Anti-D pain - I have that joy to look forward to in a couple of weeks Confused

me23 · 11/01/2011 16:30

got some antibiotics today for my uti and some liquid iron as tablets make me very nauseous.
Am also Envy about jeffily moving to the west country, dp is from south somerset right on the border of dorset we visit his family every opportunity we get I love it there and would happily move there in a heartbeat. Need to finish my course first once I'm qualified may try to get a mw job down there.
Also watched obem I don;t know why though as it always annoys me! wish they would show more active births more skin to skin and breastfeeding. It is filmed in the high risk unit though that is why we see a lot of intervention however they have filmed a bit in the MLU so next week there is a waterbirth, lets hope they haven't chosen to show it because it turns into an emergency.

KPidgeon · 11/01/2011 16:38

me it's good to know that they are filming it in the high risk unit, thanks.

Sorry you've been feeling sick.

Did any of you get a breastfeeding DVD from the NHS? (My MW gave it to me). I found it helpful though I hope someone will be able to help me in the hospital to check that I'm doing it right there..

I've started drinking a coffee in the afternoon in a probably useless attempt to liven up my baby then so he's not wide awake and VERY active all night! Sunday night was like a sports day for him... so what with that and going for a couple of trips to the loo I barely got any sleep! Not sure if this method will work! but it's only 1 coffee a day so shouldn't do any harm.

TooImmature2BMum · 11/01/2011 18:23

KPidgeon, my baby is exactly the same - not very active in the day and then waking me up all night! Not a good sign for the future...

I watched OBEM and was a bit worried by the screaming woman too! I was reassured by the midwives, though, because she clearly wasn't the norm as they were all flinching.

I'm having a bad day today - I know it's trivial, but I had my 32 week appointment and my blood test results weren't back from the 28 week appt, and the MW thinks they may have been lost. She couldn't get the lab on the phone to check, so I have to call her tomorrow to find out. Then her computer crashed so she couldn't make my next appt, and then she asked if I had my urine sample and I didn't, because she didn't give me a pot or mention it at all the last time. This is the second time that's happened. She said not to worry and to bring a sample at the 36 week appt, but I can't help thinking that my urine ought to be checked when the guidelines say it should be! I know that so far there has been absolutely nothing out of the ordinary with any test they've done, but still!

On the plus side, the baby is still head down, as she was at the 28 week appt, so that's good. I know she could move if she wanted to, but so far so good.

Have a nice night, everyone!

Larty74 · 11/01/2011 21:20

I feel a complete twat for not knowing this, but what is an Anti-D jab? Never heard of it in my entire life!!!!

I am thoroughly obsessed with any type of hospital show (I once wanted to be a nurse, esp in a maternity ward) and watch them constantly, so keen to catch up with OBEM. I Tend to mute the screaming bits. Wonder what I'll be like? Blush

~We are back on home soil and its so nice to be home with all my animals! Jetlag is a buggar at 32 weeks however. I feel like i have vertigo.

1Catherine1 · 11/01/2011 22:06

Anti-D jab is for anyone who has a blood group that is rhesus negative. It is to stop your blood making anti-bodies that could potentially harm future babies that might be rhesus positive. Basically during labour there is a chance your babies blood might come into contact with yours, if LO is positive and you are negative your body will make antibodies to fight it which won't affect that LO but maybe future ones.

Since you haven't heard of it though I'm guessing you're rhesus positive so don't have to have it - lucky you!

1Catherine1 · 11/01/2011 22:07

And welcome back :) Now you can get on with all that lovely baby shopping Grin

sam26oscar · 11/01/2011 22:20

Now that i have started to get stuff ready for arrival of LO, i am a bit peeved with my sister Angry

When she was expecting her DD i lent her all my baby equipment, i have absolutely no problem with that as shes my sister, however, she lives abroad and was meant to be coming back in a couple of weeks with all my stuff so i can get nursery ready etc etc, she has now informed me that she won't be coming over now til second week of Feb, i am due to have CS 24th.

AIBU to feel this way??? Sorry to moan but can't whinge too much at her or make her bring it back earlier!!! Was wondering if i was just being a bit hormonal or actually got a valid point!! LO MIGHT come early as i mentioned to her, but that theory was swept away with ahh it will be fine remarks. Seem to remember her nursery was all set up at 28 weeks Hmm.

Sometimes you just never get over that sibling thing do you Wink

1Catherine1 · 11/01/2011 23:15

What sort of stuff has she got Sam?

Maybe you could get her to post the stuff that is needed as soon as baby is born and bring the rest, there isn't much else you can do but to be mad at her. It doesn't really help though. Sisters are there to drive us mad. Although if you are missing things like the car seat to bring LO home or other essentials I'd be really annoyed as this could cause you real problems.

I would just be insisting that she then set it all up for you as you're just not up to it so late in your pregnancy :)

Due to all the talk on this thread and on the pregnancy forum I found my way to 4OD and watched OBEM. I thought the 18 year old was really calm considering and it was a shame that the mother wanted her mum with her rather than him when it came to it. The other woman scared the hell out of me and LO didn't seem impressed either since I'm sure she was kicking me so I'd turn it off. She would kick me every time the woman screamed loudly, I think that might be her way of telling me I better not do that. Wink

Medee · 12/01/2011 10:16

well, there is still time from 2nd week in Feb to the 24th, so I think you will be OK, even if it is a bit tight. At least she is coming over before the delivery date!

sam26oscar · 12/01/2011 10:29

She has everything!!! Car seat , moses basket, blankets, breathing sensor monitor!!
Hopefully LO will stay put or though i do seem to have a thing about 37 weeks Shock

bluebeach · 12/01/2011 11:46

I'm glad a few others found the Anti-D painful. I thought I was being a real wimp. The midwife said mid jab 'oh this is a painful one by the way' I was already aware of that by then!

Sam- Its annoying that you can't get the stuff any earlier, though I don't imagine you can do much about it. I totally understand the feeling of wanting to get things sorted just incase. We have been so lucky with people lending us things, but have been offered a few things like a cot and a car seat which would be great but when I have mentioned coming to pick the things up I have sensed a bit of apprehension about them actually wanting to let the things go. I really don't mind if they want to retract the offer but I need to know so I can sort something else out.

Went round the MLU on Monday and it looks lovely, the delivery rooms are huge. You can stay for up to a week afterwards which is pretty good, though I think 3 nights wil be enough. The thought of taking the new baby home is pretty scary though.

OBEM, goodness me she was a screamer. I hope I'm not that bad, I'm glad to find out that they are in a high risk ward. It was making me think that all births need intervention.Looking forward to the water birth next week and hoping it's not another emergency CS in the end!

gem3225 · 12/01/2011 17:10

HI ALL

had my 32 week appointment today and was told my blood pressure was high again!! and ive had a headache since last night.

heartbeat and movement all fine but have to go back next week to be checked and if its still high i have to go in to hospital and be monitored on a machine every ten minutes. Got me slightly worried .

we have had a bit of a stressful time of it recently and did alot yesterday...too much. we built the cot and cleared out alot of crap and rubbish. Plus not sleeping

i just need to try and relax abit more

haloflo · 12/01/2011 17:44

I know i'm a bit late to the weight chat but at 30+3 I have gained around 2 stone 3. (started at 11 12 ish, now 14 1) It's a lot I know but I don't think i've been irresponsible. I've not gone mad but an increased appetite and a reduction in exercise have got me. In case anyone is worrying about their weight gain being high then you are not alone!

Occasionally it gets me a bit down as I've never been this heavy but I hope that lots of walks post birth along with success bf'ing will get me back into shape.

gem Hope your BP comes down and was just a result of doing a bit too much.

kpidgeon I've not got a dvd about bf yet but plan to attend a special AN class about it in early March. Maybe I will get one then? I think coffee sounds fine, I love waking my LO up! Blush Apart from the first trimester i'm on 4 cups of tea a day. I'll let you know if I regret it post birth when my baby is a caffiene addict too!

all Still not going to watch OBEM, you've not sold it to me with screaming, EMCS's and high risk units!

bluebeach · 12/01/2011 18:03

I'm a weight gainer rather than loser. I think I've put on about 2 and a half stone so far (I stopped weighing myself at the end of the 2nd trimester when It'd got to 2 stone).

I'm hoping that breast feeding goes well as that's my weight loss plan. My friend gained 3 stone last year when pregnant but has lost it all and more just through BF.

I was pretty slim before so I'm not panicking, and I'm sure these boobs weigh a stone between them, every new bra I buy seems to become too small by the next day!

My Aunt made a nice comment over Christmas..'You're not that big, you're mum told me you had put on loads of weight'. Kind of a nice of my Aunt, but also not so nice to know that my mum is informing everyone how fat I am!

Had a lovely job today, I'm an illustrator and my brief was to draw lots of babies. Got to spend the day googling new borns, and drawing lots of really cute things. Normally I would cringe at that kind of thing but I'm obviously hormonal!

jeffily · 12/01/2011 19:22

Hm, well all this chat of screaming has even put me off OBEM- DH arrived home from the job interview just as it was starting so needed to 'debrief' and haven't had a chance to watch since (he won't let me put it on when he is here- says he thinks I am mental to watch it!).

Had a dreadful day at work today, really stressful and am feeling so so shattered now. Tired, headachy, pins and needles down the backs of my legs. And I am feeling sick again! Groan. I'm going to make a Drs apppointment for Monday, I just can't see that I am going to manage much more work now with the drive and all the pressure. I'll be 34 weeks by next week anyway, so that doesn't feel too early to be going off....

Sorry to come on and whinge! Am v excited about my fab DH landing his new job and the move- we keep looking at houses and endlessly talking about when/how we move. They want him to start mid Feb, so not great timing. Looks like he might be making a dash to get to me in East Sussex before his child no 2 makes an appearance!

Purplefan · 12/01/2011 19:53

Hi Ladies,
We've all been very chatty these last few days.
Sam - best laid plans and all that.. try not to stress about it too much, else that baby will come early Wink
Gem - hope the bp sorts itself out
Larty Welcome back home.

I had another scan today (I am after all the serial scanner) Smile this time it was a growth scan - baby is consistently following the 40th Centile, so is smaller than average, but is growing as she should. This was a relief to me, because so many people have been telling me that my bump is small/ "you're not very big are you?" and it has been making me really Angry - I think I am over sensitive cos I know due to the Turners syndrome she will be smaller, but not everyone in real life knows about my situation, however they can't help but comment on my size!!!!

Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest! Other good news is that they are agreeing to planned section, GTT result was fine and bp also good Grin

Hope all well xx

pettyprudence · 12/01/2011 22:21

I'm very much a weight gainer too - just over 1 1/2 stone (so far!) and my bump is measuring big which i think is more to do with chips and less to do with baby tbh Blush.

On another note, I am really torn between a cot or cot-bed? I'm hoping baby will go straight in to the cot at night time and long term I am hoping to have a another baby (we'll see how this first one goes though Wink) so I just can't decide on what is the best option? Any experiences/opinions???

Jupiter118 · 12/01/2011 22:48

Purple - hurrah for another good scan!

Gem - hope BP temporary spike - mine went haywire at about 32 weeks with ds1. Had 24 hour monitor at one point, but nothing v traumatic. Ended up induced at 38 weeks but was fine. Easier said than done but try to relax as much as poss in case helps bring BP down.

Cot vs cot bed don't really know. We had a cot bed - ds still in it as bed (was 4 this week) and has been great. He needs new bed quite urgently though as need cot bed back for baby!!!
