Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
1Catherine1 · 07/01/2011 15:33

Baby has her days. Last week she managed to keep me up for 50 minutes because she just wouldn't settle, she was poking me here there and everywhere but when she poked down to the bed it was a really unusual feeling that stopped me falling asleep. I didn't mind too much though as I wasn't in work last week.

This week though she seems to have settled down a bit, so much so that I was worried last night there was something wrong - I went to bed and thought that I would time how long it took to got to 10 kicks. She kicked me twice in 5 minutes then I fell asleep and woke up this morning feeling extremely guilty for not being able to stay up to check if my baby was ok. Today though she seems to be trying to reassure me that she is ok since I keep getting little tiny tingly sensations where she is obviously fidgeting a bit. :)

Anyway... WEEKEND! Anyone got anything exciting planned? I'm off pram shopping in the morning - YAY :)

Muser · 07/01/2011 15:35

We're starting to get towards the end of this thread and I guess we need to think about updating the list! I noticed some of the other months have a separate stats list so updates don't get lost. Should we do that? Or just keep it here? I'm not very good with lists.

OP posts:
Medee · 07/01/2011 15:37

I saw that too, but I quite like it here as long as just posted once as the first post, so I can quickly check someone's stats if I want. I do wonder about the number of people on the list not posting though whether they still want to be on the list.

Medee · 07/01/2011 15:38

We're going to the last weekend of an exhibition I want to see, plus a trip to the dump and B+Q. The dump as part of the pre-baby decluttering, and B+Q to get some DIY stuff, and some more radiator airers!

Muser · 07/01/2011 15:40

It is a long list, maybe we should do some pruning of people who don't seem to post often?

We're not updating it very often so not sure we need a separate thread either. Might have been more useful right at the beginning! But perhaps some editing.

OP posts:
1Catherine1 · 07/01/2011 15:58

Well maybe when we start the new thread there could be a link to an alternate thread for updates where we start a new list that way there could be some pruning of people who for whatever reason haven't posted and don't want to be listed anymore. But I too like being able to scroll to the top of the page to see when people are expecting. I expect on the next thread there will be plenty of updates to the list anyway as it will probably be the one we're on in March. Could look like list spam if people updated the list on here rather than just their own announcement. Announcements are going to be lovely but it would also be nice to have a list where due dates turn to birthdays. :)

To get the list ready for the start of our new thread (for quick reference on this thread) though the new thread for the list would need to be started soonish.

Anyway.. I'm waffling, time to go home :)

sam26oscar · 07/01/2011 16:55

I have no idea how to change or add to the list but my stats are now due 24th Feb so i will probably be one of the first to announce the arrival Grin

JoJoB77 · 07/01/2011 17:09

I'm still here albeit randombly! Please don't prune me! (Don't think I've ever said that before!)

All is fine here, we are going for a 4D scan tomorrow - excited but nervous too for some mad reason. My mum is very excited bless her.

I've got 12 weeks to go so one of the later ones but I can't be complacent as time is going by so fast!

Sorry not to name check anyone, but love to you all and have lovely weekends.

Jo

Catherine - no changes to my entry as sex still unknown Confused and due date still the same.

Goodness you have all been v chatty today!

I have now made first baby purchases - scary. I have the base of new car seat (need to pick up actual seat tomorrow at JLP). I shopped around to try and get best price. Thank you Government as that's what spent most of £190 on.

Also bought some new bottles in Mothercare which were half price Grin. Got a newborn starter set and two additional 9oz bottles. Am going to give the BF another go, but still envision mixed feeding or it not working out again. I want to be prepared this time!!

Pads - I had mat ones last time and whilst the thought of them horrified me before they were actually v v v comfy and I found the thickness was good padding. Had a variety mothercare, boots, sainsburys. Seemed to need more than I thought I would. I think MW recommend them because they don't have chemicals in and so can't mask the signs of any infection etc (horrid thought). Things you thought you would never discuss eh Shock. Disposable paper knickers also great for first few days then the whole lot can just go straight in the bin.

Happy weekends everyone
x

TooImmature2BMum · 07/01/2011 18:52

Hello all!

I had my first antenatal class yesterday and the midwife said the same thing about Always pads - she said they can irritate you because they have perfume in. She said you need lavender oil for after the birth, 6 drops in the bath and sit in it morning and night, even if it's only for a few minutes. That's on my shopping list now! The class itself was good - only 3 couples including us, though, so we covered all of labour, not just the early stages, which was what it was supposed to be on. Some of the stuff was pretty scary - and it is weird sitting in a room with total strangers with the midwife asking how you would recognise if your mucus plug came away! Blush

I had my flu jab yesterday (busy day!), and the nurse asked me why I was a priority for one! I said umm, because I'm pregnant, and she got really embarrassed and said it wasn't in my notes! I don't get it - are my maternity notes not part of my medical notes? I haven't seen a doctor since I got pregnant, just the midwife. She then said I wasn't very big for 7 months, but the midwife said at the antenatal class that my bump was coming along nicely, so Catherine, you're not the only one getting completely conflicting opinions! My colleague said I had expanded visibly over Christmas (thanks!). Also, (whispers) I have stretchmarks now Sad. They are at the bottom of my bump and I couldn't see them - DH pointed them out when I was in the bath. I was so disappointed - I think I was secretly convinced I was special with special elastic skin that would just grow gently and then pop back into place after the birth with no visible marks. [deluded emoticon]

I didn't get my HIP grant yet either because the midwife never had any forms and kept saying she would post me a form and not doing it. I asked yesterday, though, and she said it was okay and retrospective claims were being honoured (phew!). I'm seeing her on Tuesday so I've to get the form then Hmm.

I'm sure there was more I wanted to say but this is turning into a monster post, so I'll stop here. Have lovely weekends, y'all!

pettyprudence · 07/01/2011 19:33

Hello, please don't prune me! I'm a bit sporadic in posting but always lurking!

Me23 I don't feel much from baby either - more of a twitch/muscle spasm and never enough to wake me/keep me up! He/she made their first external appearance though over christmas by making my tummy jump about the place. Maybe its our anterior placentas (am I right in thinking you have anterior too?).

I have most of the stuff we need - just cot and associated bits to go really. We have gone with the britax b-mobile as it will fit in our tiny boot (peugot 107) and its now compatible with the britax carry cot and car seat (most retailers havent updated the info on this though. By buying all the travel system bits from various websites I've managed to get it for about 1/2 price so v pleased!

As I'm not due until end of March I will be here until the bitter end!

Phew that was long - anyone would think I was trying to make up for the last few months!

Larty74 · 07/01/2011 20:01

WOW the thought of packing the hospital bag to be ready at anytime really makes it real to me. Then I remember that DH is off skiing for a week just a couple days after we return from the States. HOME ALONE [SHOCK] which is silly really as there are plenty of you out there who's OH's are away on military duty - so brave!

Haven't seen my HIP in the account yet, and was sent before Christmas. getting a little nervous, but will wait to chase if need be when we are back.

I have a pregnancy massage and reflexology treatment awaiting me when we get back as well and cannot wait. Still enjoying a nightly foot rub from DH which might as well be our substitute for sex! Wink

Larty74 · 07/01/2011 20:08

p.s. like the idea as well of due dates turning into birth dates on the list!

EvianBaby · 07/01/2011 20:20

Hello all!

Wow, everyone else seems to have really interesting things to say and you all seem to have been really active with your planning/shopping etc. Actually, I think I was like that the first time around, perhaps I am a bit too complacent this time Confused

I don't think I have as much to say as you, let me think...

We bought the double pushchair on Monday (thanks in part to the HIP grant, the rest was Christmas/birthday money). We decided on the Phil and Ted as all of the other doubles seem huge. I still don't feel 100% comfortable with one child being behind though. Maybe DS will start to walk a bit more when we need to cross that metaphorical bridge.

Just to add to the comments on maternity towels v always, I was told to use proper maternity towels last time as they were designed not to mask infection (sorry if to much info!). You might also find the thickness of them reassuring Grin

My other advice would be dark pj bottoms or comfortable trousers for the first few days. Not sure about anyone else who already has children but there's nothing quite like the sensation of standing up in the first days and feeling a sudden 'gush'. Now that really is too much isn't it? Sorry! It's made all the more bearable though if you're wearing dark trousers when you have visitors around your bedside!

I can't believe how close we're getting now, it's exciting and a bit scary all at the same time, mostly excitement though!

Has anyone else been getting Braxton Hicks? I have been getting them really often and they feel quite uncomfortable. I then have a little panic that I am going to go into labour, I realise this is highly unlikely. This baby also seems to be much more active than DS was, I wonder if that is a sign of things to come?! My DS is a very active toddler, I can't imagine having one with even more energy! Grin

Spilt - lovely to hear from you, poor you with the nausea, here's hoping you feel much better soon Smile. Keep us updated with your progress, it's great to hear your news.

Oooh, well after saying I didn't have much to add this has turned into an epic post! What I really wanted to say was hello to everyone and how nice it is to keep updated with your news!

Niknan · 07/01/2011 21:33

Hi All,

Glad to hear that everyone is doing well. The weeks will fly by now! Please don't cull me, although don't post much am always reading what everyone is up to you!

Have finally started to get everything ready for number 2. All neutral baby clothes are washed and put away and have bought some of the essentials. Still need to sort the nursery out (however may be moving 2 weeks before the baby is due, mad I know!!) so holding off doing that. Its amazing how second time around Im so much more chilled about it all.

This one moves loads and all throughout the day whereas DS1 was a night time baby.

Keep well everyone

chickiewoo · 07/01/2011 21:33

Hi all - please don't prune me either! I am one of the last (due 28 March), but am expecting to have a c-section a little earlier - growth scans and consultant appointment later this month will confirm.

Spilt - good to hear from you, pleased to hear all is well and you are keeping in touch with us :)

Purplefan - good to hear that all is well with your little girl too :)

I posted my HIP grant form off on 22 December, it was processed on the 30 December and in my account 5 Jan - I was amazed! Earmarked for new steriliser, bottles and all the other bits and pieces that will soon add up and bankrupt us! (due to put Xmas decorations back up in loft this weekend and bring down our baby equipment from 5 years ago - here's hoping it will still be ok)

Going to get my hospital bag sorted in the next couple of weeks and buy some new first size vests, sleepsuits etc. - saved all my baby clothes from previously, so will just need to freshen those up and if we have a girl this time then I'm hoping family and friends will buy us some pink outfits!

As for names, we are agreed on Henry for a boy but cannot agree on a name for a girl - though am currently trying to persuade DH with Scarlett or Imogen.

Good to catch up with all your news - have good weekend all xxx

StrangewaysHereICome · 07/01/2011 21:33

Hello all Smile. Please don't prune me either! I've not been around much lately so might have miseed some news, but I do want to stay on the thread - I promise to post more Wink

Great to hear from you split all that nausea sounds reassuring if not pleasant! I hope you feel more human soon - take care of youself.

I am having a small panic over only 7 weeks to go, 4 weeks til I am full term Shock. Suddenly it all seems rather close!! Both my DD's are desperate to meet the baby too which is lovley and my youngest is enjoying guess the baby parts that are sticking out Grin. I have an impulsion to get in the loft - or send DH up there - to sort out the baby clothes! I am also cleaning the kitchen cupboards and disinfecting the bathroom - nesting has started!! I have also inflated the brith ball, which seems to have slow puncture which I need to mend! I hope to bob about and get the baby in a better position as it was breech at my last check.

Sorry not to mention you all by name, I am following you all wiht interest and can't wait to read the news when it starts to happen - eeek! Right I am off to bed as I am suffering from ealry morning insomnia and am soooo tired!

StrangewaysHereICome · 07/01/2011 21:37

Ooops sorry I mean Spilt and sorry about the othertypo's - trying to type while leaning over birth ball and it's not easy esp as it's slowly deflating!!

StrangewaysHereICome · 07/01/2011 21:43

Forgot to add - great news Purple your little girl sounds so strong and you must be relieved by the scan results xx

Jupiter118 · 07/01/2011 22:48

oooh evian the gushing sensation I had forgotten about that - yuck! So why is it that all pjs i seem to find are pale colours?

Medee · 08/01/2011 09:11

it's good to see the lurkers come back!

spilttheteaagain · 08/01/2011 11:19

Gawd I don't know if I count as a lurker a poster a March person or what! But I still read your thread and post from time to time Smile
It's easier to read now that you are all way past the 20 ish weeks bit, first movements, 20 week scans. Now you are all describing a part of pregnancy that I don't know anything about yet so it's less raw if that makes sense?

Sam26Oscar I am impressed at how far you got promoted up that list! Not long for you then at all!

Strangeways good luck with that nesting. If only someone would come and nest in my house...

Love your names chickie

Re the towels, we were given a pack by the maternity ward just before going home and I'm glad we were. They are about 1cm thick and very soft and spongy. I had no stitches or tears that were sensitive, but the blood is really thick and a bit clotty and I would have felt nervous about the slim ultra pads holding it.

bluebeach yep I'm in Gloucestershire. Not to sure yet where I will chose to have this baby. It will either be home or GRH. We were very pleasantly surprised by how well we were cared for at GRH and I've lost a lot of my aversion to going there because of that. Also they are just opening their fancy new birthing centre which should be MW led and lots of pools etc so I might elect for that. It's possible I will be recommended to be in hospital in case this one needs paedeatric care/drugs immediately after birth if they are still concerned about the toxoplasma. Not too sure yet, but I have 32 weeks to decide!

8 weeks tomorrow...

JeelyPiece · 08/01/2011 11:27

Wow just ten weeks to go now. People have started commenting on my bump Hmm.

Had a midwife check the other day at 29+6 and my fundal height was 32cm... I asked what that signified and she said well it probably means you're just not having a small baby. Eek! But I'm not too worried as it's still in the normal range and I have measured spot on at previous appointments. Could just be my own insulation bumping up the figures...

Got antenatal class dates through so looking forward to that. Also have physio this week as my pelvis is really sore and I can barely make it round Tesco.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Not too long till the babies start arriving.

niamh29 · 08/01/2011 12:15

Do you guys count kicks every day? My LO has active days and rest days so it's hard to count kicks so as long as I feel her at some stage every day I don't worry too much.

When do ye plan on making up the hospital bags? I usually have mine done from about 34 weeks, so I still have 4 weeks left to get the stuff together!

If ye are updating the information here's mine:
