Jeffily Sorry to hear about your scan cock-up!! Good luck for today, I have everything crossed for you as you deserve some good news. [hsmile]

I am a little pissed off today.. was having a general conversation with my job-share partner yesterday about my maternity leave.. now I had no idea that she was thinking of covering my days and practically working full time! I said I would prob finish Feb Half-term and then return Oct half-term, but would possibly think about returning September depending on how things were. I then said if I was planning on returning September then I would do a day or two at end of July so I would be paid for the summer!! Blush
She snapped at me and said "Not if I'm covering it, you won't!" [hshock] I didn't give a reply..but was really naffed off, I thought I will do what is right for me and my family, not what you want and at the end of the day it is my job! Angry

Am I wrong to feel like this? I know it must be horrible if you cover a job and then the post holder comes back to get full potential of their pay situation. Last time I was really good and just returned in the September... but you've got to look after yourself haven't you?

Sorry for ranting, but thanks for listening!! xx

superpenguin · 27/10/2010 10:47

Hello all!

Nice to see a lovely new thread!

Well, I had my repeat scan yesterday, and the good news is - there is nothing wrong with my baby's foot after all, baby has two perfect little feet which just happened to be in a funny position last time. :)
However the shock of the scan was - we are having a BOY after all!
I thought I would ask again if she could see the sex (different sonographer this time) as the lady last time had not seemed convincing when telling us it was a girl. And this time she was quite sure it's a boy!
We really don't mind but were getting used to the idea of having a girl so it suddenly felt strange to think it's a boy after all. Anyway I asked if she was really sure this time and she pointed out on the screen a view looking from the bum side between the legs where she could definitely see a willy! The whole picture just looked like a grey blur to me but if the sonographer was convinced this time we will now assume it's a boy after all!
Just think, if they hadn't suspected a (non-existent as it turns out) foot problem, we would never have had another scan and we would have been thinking we had a girl right up to the day I give birth! hahaha. :)

purplefan it's YOUR job not hers so don't feel bad. You do whatever you choose.

pushmepullyou · 27/10/2010 11:18

Good luck with your scan today jeffily - thinking of you Smile

Absolutely purplefan, what you do with your mat leave is nothing to do with your job share partner. I can appreciate it must be frustrating for her, but really covering your half of the job s a temporary bonus for her (financially I mean), not an ongoing situation.

superpenguin Shock at your little boy. Suddenly a bit worried about mine now Grin. I will probably have a 4D scan at around 30 weeks though, so I guess i will get to have another check then!

gem3225 · 27/10/2010 12:09

this maybe too much info but had to call the docs today as ive been having shooting pains in the derriere area when i go to the loo!!!!

i was trying to think of another word for having a poo Blush but could i think of one?? nope so it was highly embarrassing.

Doc has given me some kind of potion to make ito make it easier to go. Dont think i could bare this everytime Blush

1Catherine1 · 27/10/2010 12:37

Purplefan ignore her and do what is right for you. Remember that as teachers we work very hard all year under a lot of pressure. The paid summer holiday is the only thing that keeps most of us sane. The profession in itself is not well paid so the summer paid is the compensation for this.

I fully intend to start back at school a week or two weeks before the end of term so that I get paid for the summer. If anyone tells me otherwise I'll be using that union I've been paying for for the last 3 years. I have no idea who is covering my role from March to July but as far as I see it they're already getting a sweet deal as my teaching timetable reduces at Easter by 13 hours a fortnight due to the year 11s going on study leave.

You have to look after your family. If she chooses to take on the extra work for a few months that is her choice and she's being paid for it. If she doesn't like the times you choose then she can not do it!

jeffily · 27/10/2010 14:53

purple Angry for you at your jobshare partner! Of course you must do what is right for you and your family, and frankly I think you would be foolish not to get the summer paid if you can. My HT practically told me to make sure that I used the holidays this way on my last ML, (tho DD ballsed it all up by coming early!) and as catherine says we work bl**dy hard and deserve those holidays! I am planning to take the full year this time- if I go back at all, so I will miss out on my pay through the summer as will be on SMP by then. It's just the way the cookie crumbles, isn't it.
I over heard a similar conversation between my 'supportive' colleagues just before my last ML- basically saying that I was just going to do what suited me and not worry about school. You bet your sweet cheeks I am! I love my job, but being a mother is far, far more important to me and I am always going to do what it right for my children!

Thanks all for you kind words of support for my scan this morn. My Dsis came with me. It was brilliant! All parts present and correct, and the heart looked healthy. I could clearly see all 4 chambers. Got some lovely photos for DH- baby looks just like his/her big sister. Actually feels real now. Was a bit of a scary moment when they were looking at the heart and it totally slowed down- and I really mean like really, really slowly, almost stopping. I actually asked the sonographer if she had put the images onto slow mo but she said that they see it all the time and it is perfectly normal! I guess our heart rate fluxtuates but I have seen quite a few fetal hearts now and have never seen it before. They were v reassuring though and explained it was nothing to worry about- so there, a heads up for anyone else!

Took my Dsis out for lunch after and am now crammed full of eggs benedict (and I did have my yolks runny!) and should really get on with some cleaning while I can cos DD is at nursery. Love to all.

PS I am another sufferer of the emma froids (much as I hate to admit it/discuss this kind of thing AT ALL, in RL would DIE admitting this!). I have found that it is crucial to avoid heavy lifting or any straining of the area, and I swear by witch hazel cream/compress esp when I am trying to avoid chemicals. Oh, pregnancy- the glamour! Grin

am988 · 27/10/2010 15:59

Hello All,

I agree - nice new thread. May it go on like this.

Great to see all the good scan news you are bringing - it is very encouraging indeed.

Mine is tomorrow morning and as most of you, I'm looking fwd but yet nervous hoping everything is fine. I'm 20+4 and I think I do feel the baby but not sure, I'm thinking it is my imagination sometimes or maybe I was expecting something more obvious.

As for discomforts, I'm feeling extremely bloated in the evenings and I seem to have a lot of wind trapped in my belly which stays there and makes it even more uncomfortable sorry TMI.

Heartburn is back but it does seem to settle with milk. I never thought I could drink so much milk as I am doing now and I was never a big fan of milk before so its milk and Nesquick for me it has replaced my favourite 'tea'!!

StrangewaysHereICome · 27/10/2010 20:19

Fab news Jeffily you must be so relieved [hsmile].

am988 I am feeling very bloated too. My voracious appetite has finally subsided so now I feel very full after not eating much. I do have a large bump now so I am wondering if my stomach is getting squished already? It's probably just as well as I have stored enough blubber around my bum and thighs to keep me going for months!!

Clucky31 · 28/10/2010 10:34

Hey all,

I've not been around for ages due to a mixture of extreme 20 week scan paranoia and a clamping down on internet usage at work :)

Hope everyone is well - am so pleased to hear good news of scans so far.

We had our 20 week scan on Friday, and despite me almost hyperventilating with panic and being convinced that something was wrong, all is well :-) So so relieved.

We also found out that we are having a baby BOY - no mistaking he was definitely flaunting his willy Grin. Have promised DH that we will keep the news to ourselves, but I have the most enormous motormouth and really wanted to tell someone :)

Take care all xxx

sh77 · 28/10/2010 12:53

Hi everyone

Congratulations on your pregnancies! I am 19+4 today.

I am due 20th March but will have ELCS a week earlier. My 20 week scan is on Monday! Can't believe how quickly it is going. As of this week, my bump can be seen through my clothes. So happy.

This is my 4 preg following the loss of my baby shortly after her birth and 2 MCS. Hoping for a happy and healthy outcome this time. (I would prefer not to have my stats listed just yet, if that is ok).

I started feeling movements (well, little kicks and pokes) around 18 weeks. Just wondered whether you are feeling regular movements?

xx

pettyprudence · 28/10/2010 13:12

i'm 17+2 and beginning to worry that my bump/jelly belly is nothing but cakes, biscuits and chips can't wait for the bump to properly pop out/scan/movement - which ever happens first - so i know that there is definitely a real live baby in there and not just trapped wind and food :(

Why did no-one warn me that i would experience about 3 hours of joy after my BFP, followed by a lifetime of worrying?????

Shelbee · 28/10/2010 14:16

Hee hee, petty prudence - I am with you on that - couple of hours of excitement followed by major anxiety!

I've got my 20 week scan next Tuesday (due 26th March). I am feeling worried about it, but I had to have a scan last week where all looked fine, so it has taken the edge off the terror... for now.

KPidgeon · 28/10/2010 14:51

Hello everyone,
For some reason mumsnet won't save my "I'm on" pages so I keep losing you but found you again.
Lovely to hear people's scan news. I'm 19 weeks tomorrow but have to wait another 3 weeks for my scan. I'm feeling very impatient!

Anyone else's bump got very big? Mine is massive! I'm so obviously very pregnant and didn't think it would be this much so soon. My husband is really tall (and has a big head- ouch) so I hope I'm not growing a mega-baby.. hmmm...

I hope this large bump also explains the vast amount of weight I've already put on. Dear me, I think I may just stop looking at the scales as I'm not eating a lot more than I did pre-pregnancy. Hoping it's water and blood and boobs and not more flab on my thighs!

jeffily great news that all is well- lovely.

hope everyone else's scans go well..

am988 · 28/10/2010 14:57

Hello All,

Just reporting on scan this morning. Baby is fine, we decided not to find out sex. Had to go for a walk in the middle of it as sonographer couldn't see heart and face the way the baby was lying. Oh well..

But... he also told me I have two little fibriods - I feel better now - but when he told me I freaked out a bit. Mum told me they are normal to have, but since I had a large one removed earlier in the year, I thought i'd never hear the word again.

1Catherine1 · 28/10/2010 15:15

Kpidgeon have you tried just selecting "watch this thread" instead? If you don't post for a while it disappears from the "Posts I'm on" anyway. And I'm also thinking I might be having a big baby, my OH is a massive 6ft6. This is my first baby and I have a pregnancy belly already at 19 weeks. I'm sure everything will be ok though :)

My OH brought home a name book last week so I've been adding names to my list of possible names. Unfortunately though my sister was asking about them so I read her the list of girls names and she told me she didn't like the one that was my favourite. I got quite angry with her inside probably quite unjustifiably but have decided that I won't give out any more name thoughts until the baby arrives.

Anyway, I hope all you ladies are doing fine and I'm sure there are plenty of you having scans this week and next so I look forward to the good news! For now I better go since my cats want to type for me. On a side note... anyone with pets.. have you found your animals getting quite possessive over you recently? My OH reckons its the pregnancy but whatever it is I can't cope with this cat harassment - their both trying to block the monitor from my view!

Purplefan · 28/10/2010 17:29

Hi all,

Thank-you for all you support in making me feel justified at being Angry at job-share partner!!

Superpenguin Very pleased to hear that your little BOY has not got a problem with his foot. [hgrin]

Jeffily Very happy that your scan went well and that your little one is doing well - must be a huge relief! [hgrin]

Sh77 Welcome to the thread I hope that this pregnancy gives you a positive and happy outcome. I am 20 weeks 2moro and am now feeling regular little kicks/prods - usually when I am trying to relax!!

Keep happy everyone. xx

KPidgeon · 28/10/2010 20:16

Thanks 1Catherine1 I'll try that instead.
My hubbie is 6' 5"- it'll be interesting to see if the two of us have big babies! My friend gave birth to her first last week- 8 days earlier than her due date- her husband is 6'3" I think and the baby was 8lb 9oz, so not small for a first- but she had a very easy labour so we can hope!

Also having issues with names- every time I say a name I like to my mum there is a deathly silence- different tastes.. hey ho! I think I'll keep them to myself from now on too.

purplefan I agree too- and it's not up to your jobshare partner- it's totally your decision. Hope it all works out for you.

Enjoy your evenings all- I'm off to carve a tiny pumpkin.

Kagey · 28/10/2010 21:22

Hello all,

I am very [henvy] about your scans - mine is next Thurs and I am excited and nervous all at once. We are not finding out although it will irk me for the next 20-odd weeks not knowing. I found out with DD but keeping it a secret again from DH is just too much bother.

I also have a huge preggy belly (well maybe a few too many cakes there also), and still just getting tickles from baby. I tried to get DH to feel a tickle last night, and he said he felt it, but I think he was just saying that so that I would stop pestering him and go to sleep.

chickiewoo · 28/10/2010 21:52

Hello all - just marking my place here and good to catch up on all your news. I'm doing ok - sickness seems to be easing a little. Suffering with dreadful constipation but finding a daily dose of prunes and apricots soaked in apple juice seems to help me go! My scan isn't until 9 November when I will be 20 + 1 and it can't come soon enough - am still very anxious that all is ok due to the worrying weeks we've had with bleeding and the CVS. Fingers crossed all is well and I will be reassured and able to relax a bit after that time. We have decided not to find out the sex - quite frankly I couldn't persuade my DH! Have a huge appetite at the moment and as such my tummy seems to be enormous - can't believe have 5 months to go! Keep smiling and good luck to everyone with imminent scans and tests xxxx

sam26oscar · 28/10/2010 22:19

Hi everyone, glad to see another thread!!!
Congratulations on everyones scans, have been at work practically full time this week....shock horror!!! for all of those who do work full time i take my hat off to you!! I am knackered after 1 week of having to get up at 6am and do a full days work Blushonly thing that has kept me going is the fact that only got the christmas holidays then no more early mornings, well at least until baby arrives!!!

I have a huge pregnant belly now am 22 weeks and absolutley no hiding the fact!!! Am getting full very quickly after eating now and cant eat too much anyone else having this problem??

Am getting regular prods and kicks now every day Grin. Got to the stage last night about 11pm when i was almost wishing it would stop so i could go to sleep!! Its so funny to watch as whole bump twitches when it kicks!!

Well, my last full day tomorrow so best get to bed so i can try and geta full nights sleep without getting up for a pee (wishful thinking face) !!

sittinghippo · 29/10/2010 08:54

Morning all, just popping in to say hello and wish good luck to all of you with scans coming up in the next week.
Am 21+2 now and the wriggles and kicks are very much felt, especially 'downwards' kicks onto my bladdder...
Have a lovely weekend and happy Halloween!

Larty74 · 29/10/2010 10:08

1Catherine! It seems that all my felines want to do is knead my belly and make it their bed - which doens't feel great. Sometimes I let them as I quite like the idea of the LO hearing them purr. Think he's gonna come out purring myself. Smile

bluebeach · 29/10/2010 11:32

Hi everyone, 22 weeks today and like lots of you am getting regular kicks that you can see from the outside. It's amazing! They only really got obvious over the last week or so though, so earlier people don't worry it will happen soon!!

I know this is a subject thats already been discussed and I don't want to bore anyone but has anyone had the swine flu jab yet and is anyone definitely not having it?

I have been offered it now, my Midwife said its about 50 50 those that have it and those that don't.

I don't think there is a right or wrong thing to do, I'm just wondering what you guys are thinking about it.

I also have a big man 6'4, In the scan the babies thigh bone looks really long so I think it might take after him. unfortunately the baby looked like it had my massive head rather than DP's nice small one Confused

Medee · 29/10/2010 11:41

Hello, had my repeat 20week scan today, and this time everything could be seen, and a clean bill of health.
