Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Muser · 31/10/2010 21:31

jammie don't listen to your friend. I am the youngest of 3, it's brilliant have 2 siblings. So much more support. Lots of fun growing up, with there being 3 of us you could pretty much guarantee that at least 2 of us would want to play something. And I don't think my parents ever felt outnumbered. If you're setting boundaries then you'll ensure you're always in charge, however many kids there are.

I would like 3 kids myself.

1Catherine1 · 31/10/2010 22:02

Nothing wrong with 3 Jammie! I am one of three, the middle one of three to be exact. I love having close siblings and although in all honesty when my little sister was born (I was 5) I remember hating her for ages she is now my best friend. Occasionally my mum felt outnumbered 1 to 3 but when my dad came home he made up for the other 2 to even the score :)

PipPipPip · 31/10/2010 22:47

Hi ladies, just popping in to say hello. Congrats to everyone who has had scans recently and good luck to those this week.

Mine isn't for another 10 days so I'm just ticking along until then. I feel pretty laid-back about it although I hope it hasn't grown a second head since the first scan.

Is anyone else on this thread a first timer in an unusual/flexible work situation? ie. a freelancer or a mature student? If so, would love to swap ideas on how you'll be juggling childcare with work etc.

pettyprudence · 01/11/2010 10:03

Fed up and worried today. I don't feel pregnant and don't look pregnant (just fat), I haven't felt any movement yet (but i'm only 18wks today and this is first baby) and beginning to think that its all in my head (the being pregnant bit). I know I am probably being irrational, but ARRRGHHHHHH. Only another 11 days until my scan, which I was initially looking forward to but now dreading :(

Whinge over!

superpenguin · 01/11/2010 10:34

Hello everyone.

I had my flu vaccine a couple of weeks ago. My GP surgery wrote to me about it. Where I am you didn't make an appointment for it, instead they did an open session on a saturday morning (they do 2 or 3 sessions) and you just turned up. Was in and out in a couple of minutes, loads of old people there, all formed a long but fast moving queue and there were 5 or 6 doctors and nurses in a big room all doing the jabs, they just checked my name and date of birth and asked if i'd ever had the flu jab before and if i was allergic to anything. Arm was sore for a couple of days afterwards but I don't mind that. Glad I had it.

Great to hear some more good scan news from people.

As for movement I'm still only getting very occasional and very faint feelings and I'm 22+3 now. Not worried though I'm sure everything is fine.

pip I'm not in that work situation (I am employed full time and will be taking 1 year maternity leave) however I do run my own business self-employed in my spare time, which I will be carrying on whilst on mat leave, and with what I do for that I wouldn't need childcare though as could take baby with me. So not sure that's really relevant Hmm
Very jealous of those of you who are part time though! Envy :)

pettyp please don't worry (easy to say that I know) - the 11 days will go by before you know it. I am still hardly feeling any movement at over 22 weeks but on the scan baby was moving loads! and also know what you mean about not feeling pregnant just fat! i'm sure half my bump is chocolate cake and chips.

bollandbear · 01/11/2010 11:14

jammiedodger2

These kind of comments make me so mad! It's just garbage, rude, insensitive and ignorant. The only rule you have to remember is "Every family is different and there are no rules." Loads of 2nd time mums from by first ante-natal group lectured me about how you musn't leave more than a 2 year gap between them because then, I don't know what, they will end up like the Krays or world will end. Whatever! I had post natal depression and a stressful part time job that was just my old FT job stuffed into 3 days. I would have ended up in a mental hospital (no exaggeration) if I hadn't had a bigger gap. My son will be almost 4 when my next is born. There are pros and cons to everything but these rules people come out with that they say are based on research are just shizzle.

I do think it is sometimes wise to distance yourself from people who come out with this kind of stuff! Her problem...not yours..end of....

1Catherine1 · 01/11/2010 11:15

pettyp I am 20 weeks pregnant now and still haven't felt any movement. I went to the hospital yesterday and was shocked at how low down the baby's heart beat was heard. That has made me feel like this belly I have is just fat since it sure as hell isn't the baby. But I'm not overly concerned. I refuse to diet while pregnant so I just know I will have to sort it afterwards.

First day back at work for me after half term and I'm going back home in an hour. I'm feeling really unwell since my nausea seems to have made a reappearance with my terrible stretching pains. I'm going home to rest as its the only way the stretching pains seem to ease. All this walking around the classroom is only making them worse and since I seem to be walking differently to compensate for my front hurting my back is now aching too!! AHHHHHH!!!!!

niamh29 · 01/11/2010 11:38

Prettyp: I am also 20 weeks and still haven't felt any movement, and this is my third, I felt movements before or around now with both my other pregnancies so I am also worried, I'm another on who doesn't really look pregnant at all, I'm waiting for my bump to pop, it'll happen eventually!

I am also seeing a reappearance of the nausea, I've had some nausea and sickness over the last week but didn't have any for weeks before that. With my first at 20 weeks I started getting sick again after meals ANC it lasted the whole way through so I'm hoping that isn't happening again.

Pregnancy does NOT suit me, however being a mother does so that my consolation!

Maitri · 01/11/2010 13:37

jammie I'm also one of three and I love it too! It's been great having such a close r'ship with my siblings. I'm also expecting my third and I have a BIG age gap between them - ds is 14 and dd is 6 so this new baby really will have big siblings.

DH's grandmother made a comment a few months ago which has been rattling around in my head for a while. She tutted, shook her head and said "Aren't you worried about having number three? I mean, you've been so lucky with the other two - the risk is only going to rise with having more children." Risk?? Risk of what??!! As you can imagine, my pregnancy horror-monal state has allowed that comment to colour every single scan and check-up I've had.

BeanInMyBelly · 01/11/2010 15:14

Hello everyone, thought I'd pop in and say hi. Congrats to everyone who has just had their scans and good luck to those with it coming up. I am due 11th March 2011, first timer, panic at the slighest negative thought! (Have never touched wood so much in my life!) I had my 20 week scan just over a week ago, everything looks good although I had the scan on my 20 week date and she said the measurements were 19w5d - does this mean that the other scan was incorrect or that 'bean' is underweight? Confused
Niamh29 and 1Catherine1, I'm also getting a re-emergence of the dreaded nausea, and also really painful lowers typing to a whisper constipation (TMI, I know. Blush).
DH has been shoved aside for the new love of my life atm, Chocolate Cupcakes.....(or chocolate biscuits, chocolate pudding, chocolate cake, chocolate bananas, chocolate anything, really).

KPidgeon · 01/11/2010 15:16

1Catherine1 just to say that I have a big belly too which given the size of what the baby is a this stage (19 weeks) was a bit perturbing! But I had a midwife appointment this morning and she said that although she thinks it is a biggish baby (yikes) so much of it is water, gas, blood, placenta, uterus. That accounts some of the weight we put on too- the actual baby bit is so small.

I'm not worrying about weight and food either- as long as I eat the right stuff- fruit and veg & protein- the occasional treat and bigger thighs will be dealt with after the baby is here.

pettyp I'm sure you'll feel it soon. I only started feeling it at 18 weeks. really low down - and not bubbles at all- like little tiny pushes- and then only in the morning and in the evening when I'm sitting down relaxing after dinner.

I think I'm totally behind schedule- had my midwife doppler appointment today (was meant to be at 16 weeks!) and have my scan on the 19th..

Ohh- and we signed up for NHS antenatal classes- 4x 2hr sessions. Really pleased we've gone for them after all the NCT indecision- in the end the cost was just too much so free NHS ones for us!

For those with 3 children or who are one of 3- that's what my husband and I want- seems more like a brood/ force to be reckoned with than 2 children. But I'll let myself get through one pregnancy and cope with one child first!

Sorry for those of you feeling sick again- crikey I hope mine doesn't make a reappearance.

Hope you all have a good week.

Purplefan · 01/11/2010 16:12

Hi all,
Just came on quickly to have a bit of a catch up... what a busy day!! Smile

I think that worry/fear are all part of the pregnancy package that no-one ever really tells you!! It is so difficult because you can't actually see what is happening in there!! Confused

I also came on here to have a little break from sorting through baby/toddler clothes and items Hmm DH went up into the loft yesterday to search for any maternity gear from nearly 5 years ago!!! He ended up emptying the loft of all the bags of baby related items and I am now in the process of having a major sort out...I guess it is now useful knowing I am having another girl Wink I am trying to be ruthless in my sorting though!!!

Take care everyone and good luck for any scans in the next few days.

mendipgirl · 01/11/2010 16:30

Hi All,

Heven't been in touch for a while, all going okay, had my flu jab which was fine, and plenty of kicking since so don't think baby has been affected. Back for my rescan tomorrow to see if they can see the heart properly this time! I'm not too worried though. It's my DDs 2nd bday tomorrow as well, very exciting!!

Jammie, i would love 3, I think this will probably be our last but I got quite upset the other day at the thought of stopping at 2 and this being my last pregnancy!

Have treated myself to some lovely (expensive) fitflop boots, told my DH that as I wasn't buying any other clothes this winter as I was using all my old maternity gear that I though they were justified...and they are so comfortable. Agree with the no heels and lots of warm baths for the bad backs. I feel huge and can't believe it is still 4 months growing to go!!

lia66 · 01/11/2010 18:23

hi all,

I am 20 wks Thursday and have got gtt tomorrow morning. so with that in mind, I have to eat and eat until 10pm when I have to stop everything except water. It's 8.30 am so not too bad i guess.

anomoly scan Weds, we had amnio at 18 wks so already know we're having another girl but will be relieved to see and know that everything else is ok.

Would someone please add my stats

Lia66 PG#10, dd 15, ds 13, ds 7, dd 5, dd 3 (4 angels)due 23/3 baby girl

I will prob be induced between 37 and 38 wks due to Obstetric cholestasis again, had it 3 times so far and already displaying some signs so am resigned I guess. Will just have to work on getting baby out naturally at 37 wks. :)

I am craving smells at the moment and am incredible thirsty, hence the early gtt. In my bathroom, I have coal tar soap, Hmm, loverly, Can't stop washing my hands. Grin

Hope everyone is well, kids back to school tomorrow, have good week, all.

JeelyPiece · 01/11/2010 20:17

Hi, just popping in to say great to see all the good scan news.

I have mine tomorrow and keeping veering between excited and nervous. Think I've been feeling movements and my bump has popped out over the weekend so that's reassuring. Am 20+3 today.

Good luck to all those with scans this week!

Hello all,

Not posted for a while, although did type a really long one on Fri pm, but it was gobbled up into cyberspace before I clicked the button to post.

Flu jab ? having it tomorrow at work. They provide one every year (for those that want it) and said as long as have checked with midwife was fine to have it at work ? figured would save the NHS some money ? pennies pounds and all that.

Back/pelvis pain ? starting to have a little bit ? worsened by slipping on DS? toy fire helmet yesterday, almost doing the splits (not an attractive site trust me) ? ouch!! Haven?t resorted to pillows between the knees and behind back in bed yet ? trying to hold off to feel the benefit. On the topic though ? has anyone tried a ?Dream Genii? pillow ? thoughts/reviews welcome.

Scan and consultant appt is Thur ? excited and nervous all at the same time. Movement is becoming more frequent though. Just want Thurs to be here already. Good luck to

Spots ? ugggh ? seem to have so many. Guess it must be the hormones, but grim.

Bump ? seems enormous ? am beginning to resemble beached whale. Weightwatchers after birth is going to be the only way.

x

1Catherine1 · 01/11/2010 23:13

Jupiter I got a pregnancy and nursing pillow from kiddicare a few weeks back because I was struggling to sleep already. It is a tad expensive but I'm glad I bought it. I don't use it every night but because of the pains I've been having the last few days and how I struggled to sleep last night I came home from work this afternoon and got it out and slept for 4 well needed hours. I'm still having slight pain now but am sat on my bed with the pillow wrapped around me giving me plenty of back support and a table to lean my laptop on while I post this :) With the added comfort of a pillow to lean on and a pillow under my knees right now I'm totally pain free and comfortable Grin

I am sure I felt the baby move about half an hour ago which is the first time so I'm really excited about that. It was only very slight but it felt like the tiniest prod. It is some relief from the worry of the past few days. Scan is Friday morning, really can't wait :)

Good luck to everyone who has a scan in the next few days.

Larty74 · 02/11/2010 08:18

Pillows are a godsend! Any kind! I got a plain old bolster pillow which is about as tall as me and it is heaven in bed! (poor DH)
That Dream Genie looks amazing but I couldn't bring myself to spend nearly £50 on a pillow.

Back to school for me today. being a nursery school, I do alot of bending over which has just recently become just that bit more difficult. ho hum!

have a great day ladies!

KPidgeon · 02/11/2010 11:47

For Jupiter118 and anyone else suffering from spots/acne- mine was terrible and I didn't want to risk using the usual harsh spot creams I use because of the baby so I slathered on sudocrem and it's made a big difference. It's like going to bed covered in white paint on my face but it's really helped loads- I think it may be the zinc in the cream. And is dead cheap. Worth a try for anyone suffering with pregnancy spots. They were getting me down.

Have had to come out of scan to shoogle baby around, it's standing up facing my back and refusing to show its front! Awkward child. If it's not turned round when I go back in will have to get another appointment. Come on baby!
