bluebeach i had my flu jab at the weekend and apart from slight ache in arm no side effects at all, was happy to have it and was rather glad to have an excuse to get it this year, especially after seeing the little boy i nanny for hospitalised with swine flu last yearSad

JoJoB77 · 29/10/2010 13:06

bluebeach I had the flu jab on Wednesday which also included the swine type. My arm is a little achy and I felt a bit grotty yesterday but not sure I can pinpoint it to the jab or not. Anyhoo, feel better today and I felt the consequences of not having the jab and getting flu were too great not to have it.

1Catherine1 · 29/10/2010 13:07

Congratulations Medee :)

I got the flu jab 2 weeks ago since as a teacher I'm exposed to so many germs. Also only had a sore spot where I'd had the injection for 48 hours.

Medee · 29/10/2010 13:08

I had my flu jag last week - no ill effects other than a slightly sore arm for a day.

pushmepullyou · 29/10/2010 16:11

Congratulations Medee Smile

I'm having my flu jab in a couple of weeks - was the soonest they could fit me in. Uptake is obviously high at our surgery!

KPidgeon · 29/10/2010 16:26

Oh crumbs- I haven't even heard of getting a flu jab- I've got a midwife appointment on Monday morning so will ask about it then. I work in a University and there are so many germs floating around this place!
Thanks for the prompt ladies. x

ffairy · 29/10/2010 17:16

Hello everyone~ Nice to meet so many mums here~I am already 19W+2D and will due next March 25.
I have not heard any information about flu jab. Do I need to contact my GP or midwife?

sarahscot · 29/10/2010 17:45

Purplefan, I'm a teacher too and have every intention of going back for the last week before summer. Your jobshare partner has no say in what you do. If Iwere you I'd have a quiet word with her, tell her what she said upset you and point out if it was the oother way round surely she'd do the same?? And if that doesn't work, tell her she's a massive tit Grin

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 30/10/2010 00:10

Do tall men have babies in March?!? My DH is also 6'5" - seems a bit weird that there are at least three of us with v tall men! Am really hoping mine gets at least some of my genes (I'm not short - 5'8" - but am also not rugby player size!). Otherwise, birth is too scary to contemplate (although perhaps it is anyway Grin )

On flu jabs - are we meant to contact our GPs or do they remind us?!? Sorry v stupid question but mine has never sent me anything (yet both my parents were told two weeks ago to get theirs...)

Larty - long time ago but thanks for reassurance about a bit of leakage... Without TMI enough said!

xx

Honeymoonmummy · 30/10/2010 03:28

God, I'd not even thought about flu jabs!

Had 20 week scan yesterday, all is well with the baby, the feet were in the way but she "guessed" it was a boy ... Gonna have to have a private scan to find out for sure, I can't not know!!

Medee · 30/10/2010 08:28

Mine's a normal 6', NowPanic!

You need to contact them, but if you are seeing your midwife check with her she is OK for you to have it.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 30/10/2010 11:38

Thanks Medee - seems odd GPs contact pensioners who are meant to have jabs but not pregnant women who are. I'm flying abroad on Tues for two weeks - so it'll be mid-Nov at the earliest I get vaccine - hope I don't get flu first!

6' is hardly small!

niamh29 · 30/10/2010 12:25

He he, just checked in and started reading the last couple of posts and saw all this talk of (my DP/DH is 6", and my dirty little mind ran away with me and I was thinking "wow, are we all discussing THIS now???"
Took me a minute to realise it was height that was being discussed........oooops!

1Catherine1 · 30/10/2010 13:49

niamh I read your post and started giggling to myself to which my DP asked what was so funny. When I told him he was not amused and shock his head at me in disappointment. Men! No sense of humour.

And as for the flu jab - I think the GP expects you to contact them. I don't know any surgery that are phoning pregnant woman offering it just expecting them to be pro-active about it and do it themselves. Probably because only half of pregnant woman get the jab.

Muser · 30/10/2010 20:18

Hello all. I've been away for a few days. Glad to hear more positive scan news. Welcome to Sh77 as well.

Happy Halloween all!

me23 · 31/10/2010 11:50

I have read on the nhs website that if you have had the swine flu jab last year you don't need the flu jab this year? I had it done at work so don't think I require it.

I still have 2 weeks wait until my scan, I hate to say this but I'm really worried I have had a really rough time of it this pregnancy as you know feeling so ill, fatugue headaches everyday plus abnormal bloods high CRP, thyroid t4 too low but gps won't do anything, so I'm worried it may have affected baby.

I am having bloods redone tomorrow to see if any change but I'm am going to insist on being referred to someone either an endocrinologist or obstetrician as gps really do not know what to do with me, and it's not just me they need to worry about.

Is anyone having bad back pain I finf esp at night it is almost impossibe to get out of bed (and trust me I need to get out of bed a lot I actually got up to wee 8 times last night, I hardly slept) I can barely walk when I get out of bed it hurts so much esp on right side.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 31/10/2010 12:23

Me23 - I also get back pain and buttock pain in fact where I have to sit up in order to turn over in the night. On th other issues, I think getting referred to someone a bit more clued up will help settle your anxiety, definitely push for it.

My MW appointment isnt until December so I jus need to make a decision about the jabs to be honest, dont have much feeling either way.

I have been getting lots of movement but havent actually been able to see it on the outside yet. Am 22 weeks tomorrow so imagine it will happen soon.

I have been having strong "girl" feelings this last week. Not sure why. My mum and husband have mentioned a few times that I really dont look that pregnant at all and with both my boys I was a true hippo even by now. I had a dream about a baby girl last night - and although we have had a girls name since DS1 I have become competely obsessed with another name and am completely ignoring boys names. I was the other way around with DS1 and DS2. Who knows but feesl odd not to be in a complete boy frame of mind as I had been with the other two.

TooImmature2BMum · 31/10/2010 17:14

Oh, I hope the scan was right! Am worried now that I will go buy all girl stuff and then it will be a boy instead.

On the pet thing - my dog went completely mental at the plumber the other day. It was just me and dog in the house as DH had gone to get takeaway, and strangers don't often come to the house. I did wonder if he was being more protective than usual because of pregnancy - he often barks at the postman, etc, but not like this! Luckily the plumber took it in good part and didn't seem fazed. It was just barking, it's just that he wouldn't stop.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 31/10/2010 17:37

Re back pain - mine's been awful as well. Keep waking up with a sort of lasting shooting pain from my left hip down to below my knee. It seems to last 5-10 mins and then thank god I can get back to sleep. I'm trying to sleep on my left - but as I always slept on my side don't think it can just be new position. For a week I also had v sore mid back which was much worse by supper time - dh who's had loads of back probs and physio suggested walking more and haven't had it for two days so am hoping walking can at least control it.

Otherwise all seems fine at the mo - am loving the (still gentle) kicks - although the somersaults make me feel a bit sea sick Grin

For those who've not felt anything yet / are not sure if they have mime was never like bubbles - more of a slow twitch / gentle pressure for a second or two. It took me at least a week to work out it really was kicks!

Happy Halloween!

Xx

Hi i am due march the 26 i was just wondering and dont wnat to give anyone eles this worrie or fear but so far not really enjoying my pregnancy as i have got the biggest fear of dieing in cildbirth cos i alredy have a son and there would be no one to look after if that was to happen has anyone eles had this or heard of anyone with it

1Catherine1 · 31/10/2010 19:41

Welcome to the thread Ella. Irrational fears as far as I can tell are all part of pregnancy. I was at the hospital this morning convinced there was something wrong because the stretching pains were the most intense I've ever had. I had stressed myself out that much I had barely slept and had a terrible headache.

I would say though you need to remember that medicine has come a long way and very few woman die as a result of childbirth in the UK. Approximately 0.01% which is extremely low. If you are really concerned about something going wrong make sure you plan to have your baby in hospital and they will look after you. I also think you should make sure you let your midwife know of your worries, she might be able to offer counselling or other support that may be of help.

jammiedodger2 · 31/10/2010 20:30

Hi Ladies
For all of you with aches I am swearing by warm baths, really seem to be helping my back and pelvis pain. Have also abandoned by beloved high heels Sad
Am enjoying the kicks and looking forward to seeing the wriggler at my scan on tuesday, we're not finding out the sex but I'm getting quite strong 'boy' feelings.
Had neighbours who we are quite good friends with round for takeaway on friday. He went on and on about how he really didn't get boys and was so glad that his dc3 was another girl. Also compared my ds and dd and commented that of course we would want a nother girl Hmm. DD is a blessed child, loved where-ever she goes, but DS is just as fab in his own way and I happen to think he is going to be a particularly fun, interesting teenager. Makes me a bit cross when people compare them Angry
She then told me how since having dc3 her family has been completely unbalanced and they are outnumbereed and it's a nightmare Hmm. I did comment that I was a bit fed up with people saying that to me all the time as there wasn't much I could do about having 3 now.
I don't think I shall invite them again for a while, has left me feeling a bit grumpy. Have worked out my mat leave now, hoping to be able to be off until after christmas next year, although a bit worried about finances.
lol
