Congratulations AbFab, fo glad you got the home birth. Back labour hurts! Ds was in that position. Well done on 55 hours no sleep. Hope the feeding goes well, sure it will, you've had a dream start by yhesound of it.

FingonTheValiant · 09/10/2010 14:15

Congratulations AbFab! Can't believe you went for so long with no sleep - you must be exhausted now! Catch up all you can.

floozie sorry to hear you're struggling. I've seen quite a few threads on here from people who are struggling with a toddler and newborn, and everyone seems to say that for these first few weeks you shouldn't feel guilty if the tv does a fair amount of babysitting. Much better that you are all happy than that you're struggling just to avoid cbeebies!

Well contractions got very intense, but have eased off again. So I'm having some soup and then I'm going to go and climb the stairs a few times and see if they come back!

tiredfeet · 09/10/2010 14:27

congratulations Abfab, wonderful news! glad the homebirth happened for you, and lovely to think of you enjoying your baby boy now!

BackAgain · 09/10/2010 14:55

Congratulations AbFab and great respect for going so long without sleep and having a homebirth.

Woohoo another boy!

Is anyone in the running for a 10/10 baby? Good luck Fingon - hope it is the real thingand the contractions come back

Anyone else bouncing on their balls in anticipation?

No signs for me yet (37+5) but have had the urge to clean cupboards out and want to get organised so hopefully the nesting instinct is kicking in

shieldbug · 09/10/2010 15:02

congratulations AbFab! Glad you managed a home birth. Gosh, 55 hours without sleep, you must indeed be exhausted, especially as it was a tiring birth for you. Looking forward to hearing your name choice in due course. Well done for adding to the tally of boys too!

Still nothing exciting here. So much for the consultant's prediction of 2-3 weeks early. At this rate, it'll be late! Good luck Fingon, hope you manage a 10/10 baby. I think everyone on the thread will be urging you on!
Wish I had some of your nesting instinct backagain- I desperately need to clean the front room in anticipation of visitors but am really struggling to find the motivation and the energy.

BackAgain · 09/10/2010 15:11

This might make you all laugh - think I have completely overdone it on muslins. On the last count I had about 15 all washed and ironed, just been sorting out the christmas presents hiding under the bed and found another 3!

As me and DH are the the only ones who know we are having a boy I have been buying blue/patterned muslins secretly and hiding them away :)

sending some 'nesting instinct' vibes your way shieldbug though think I am going to crash and burn soon, probably just as my sister and her brood walk through the door for a curry to celebrate my birthday

Hermya321 · 09/10/2010 15:21

Congrats to you Abfab!!!

Hermya321 · 09/10/2010 15:43

Ok, I've had some tightenings and some bad back ache which has been getting steadily worse since this morning. I'm going to potter for a bit and see how I go.

Backagain Don't worry I've got about twenty of the things knocking around.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 09/10/2010 15:50

Congratulations abfab. Great thatbyou had the home birth. Well done.

Happy birthdaybackagain and Maverick too!

shieldbug · 09/10/2010 15:56

Oh Hermya hope that this might be the start of things! You've been having lots of pains of one sort or another recently, so hopefully this time they might be significant.

I have no muslins yet. Am I a bad Mum-to-be? Grin

shieldbug · 09/10/2010 15:57

Sorry, meant to say happy birthday backagain- hope the curry is good!

AbFabT · 09/10/2010 16:09

Thanks for the congratulations, everyone! We have had a little nap, but I am just so buzzing right now, and besotted with our baby, I don't want to miss a thing! 55 hours was surreal, I can't believe I made it, and only with water, TENS (after 24 hours of attempting hypnobirthing - not sure I sussed that one, though right as he was coming out, I did imagine I was a flower!) and gas and air after the second 24 hours! I don't know why I was trying to be such a hero - I would not bother again, and will be straight on the gas and air straight away! Or just go straight for a CS!!! DH offered massages, which we'd learnt at a birth prep class but I mostly didn't want to be touched - that surprised me, as I LOVE massage, and get such comfort from his touch expecially. He did get a few nailmarks from where I grabbed and squeezed him though!
I did have reflexology in the early hours, and that did feel marvellous.

There were many moments that I felt I just couldn't do this, please whisk me off to hospital and cut me open! But looking back only a few hours later, I can barely remember the agony and exhaustion. I do still have excruciating pain from him being back to back (floozie, are you talking from experience re the back to back? If so, when does it get better?!), but I am fine if I don't move!

Ooh, Hermya, so it could be you next! Good luck.

ILGH, I love the name Genevieve! My personal preference would not go for the J nicknames, as her name begins with G - I think that makes it a bit confusing. And because I like fairies and fairytale, I'd probably use Genie as the nickname.

FingonTheValiant · 09/10/2010 16:10

Happy birthday backagain

Ok, so I'm getting regular bad back cramps - is that contractions? I was expecting it to hurt all over my belly. They're lasting about 40secs but only 3 in 15-20 mins.

Hermya sounds like we're on for a race to the 10/10 finish :o

Oh, and I have about 25 muslins I think - I was told to get loads, and I think I took that advice a bit to seriously.

BackAgain · 09/10/2010 16:24

Thanks for the birthday messages - currently have the aroma of chocolate floating around the house as DH and DD are making me a birthday cake. Though I think it is more likely DD is eating it as she goes along than being a great help with the baking!

Glad to hear I am not the only one with lots of muslins and I do remember that they are incredibly useful for all sorts so I am sure they will all get used.

Good luck Hermya hope your aches and pains turn into labour. I imagine I will be stuck to MN tomorrow to see if we do have a 10/10 baby.

After reading about your back to back birth experience AbFab I shall redouble my efforts to get this baby to move - looks like I will be cleaning the kitchen floor on my hands and knees tomorrow!

Congratulations AbFab! I knew something was up when you went all quiet there.

Fingon Hopefully you are in the throes of labour now. I really hope this is the real thing for you! I have had the symptoms that you are currently having for the last three weeks. Everyone else seems to go into labour, but I just seems to go on and on. I don?t think I will ever have my baby. I?m starting to think that there isn?t one in there and I?ve just overeaten for the past 8 months.

Floozie Sorry things are getting a bit tough. It won?t last forever and will pass soon enough. If your DS ends up watching too much TV for a couple of weeks it will be fine. When DD2 was born, DD1 was just over 2. She had never watched TV before and I just couldn?t manage without it for the first few weeks at home on my own. Don?t beat yourself up, you are doing brilliantly.

Hope everyone else is well and enjoying the weekend. 38+3 weeks.

Xavielli · 09/10/2010 16:42

AbFab I didn't want to be touched at all during either of my labours. I don't think it is that unusual tbh, you tend to go into yourself somewhat.

Fingon My labour with DS was all in my back, no tummy pains at all.

BackAgain Happy Birthday!!

Hermya Hope things get going for you! Don't potter too much/far, remember resting and relaxing is important too.

Hermya321 · 09/10/2010 17:23

Xav Thanks for that, I'm still getting the pains. I cleaned the bathroom and kitchen for a bit of a distraction and have sorted the labour bag out into easy to reach sections. Am now sat down watching tv.

Hermya321 · 09/10/2010 17:24

This thread is pretty funny!!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 09/10/2010 17:36

Abfab congratulations!!! Lovely news, so glad your little boy arrived safely, v cool name :)

I loved the water too (and g and a is the wauy forward even if it gives you something else to focus on!)

Go Fingon! Sounds like a 10/10 baby could be on it's way Grin

SilverSky · 09/10/2010 17:56

Ladies, had a bit of a dizzy spell earlier. Didn't faint bur felt odd and woozy for 20 seconds. This was a couple of hours ago. I was sat down at the time. Feel normal now. Aside from being uncomfortable. I have eaten but only had 2 pints of squash today so will drink some more. Baby is moving well. Thoughts?

Congrats on all the new arrivals and love the name Maverick.

SilverSky · 09/10/2010 17:59

oh and 38 +5

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 09/10/2010 18:09

Hermya totally missed your post-hope things are progressing for you too - the race is on for 10/10 Grin

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 09/10/2010 18:13

Silversky- sit down and relax, try to sleep. If it happens again/if your worried about baby etc then go and get checked out. Has your bp been normal throughout? You could well have just over done it, but always best to get checked out if concerned :) x

SilverSky · 09/10/2010 18:38

sea I called the Fetal Assessment Unit and they looked me up on the PC and said to take paracetamol or co-codamol and not to worry. So going to take their word for it. Going to drink more fluids and continue to do jack all for the rest of the day. BP has been perfick the whole way - no concerns at all. Thanks for the post, always nice to have a response.

Hope Vikks is ok.

Is it just me or is Tess Daly really annoying??

dontstopmenow · 09/10/2010 19:17

Hello all, sorry to just post and run but have no time, just wanted to let you all know that we have had a beautiful baby girl - Hannah Naomi Sophie. Hurrah!!! She was born on 5/5/10 at 12.56pm and we got out of hospital today. Whoop Whoop! Will catch up with everyone elses news later. :)
