pample - what's your PhD in? I've got 4 months funded leave which isn't too bad in the current funding climate, so pretty pleased with that!

Alice - Me and DH have just been talking about that, last time it's going to be 'just the two of us' and we've only been married a year lol Really thought we'd have a bit longer of just being newly married before I got preg but it's been a lovely surprise and a complete rollercoaster!! Sure we'll all adjust some how, but like you I'm trying not to think about it too much!

coffeelady - I've heard clothes pegs on your little toes for up to half an hour at a time and rubbing all around your ankles are good reflexology-related ways to get labour underway so maybe you can top up your sessions this way? Good luck with your next session - hope it works!!

Just been out for a walk and got a curry on the go for dinner - looking forward to a relaxing night alternating between sofa and birth ball now tho lol

Dibbydab · 03/08/2010 19:08

So, I have an announcement...

Our beautiful daughter, Felicity Violet arrived yesterday morning at 4.13am (on her due date for those who remember me moaning on that 3 days before her due date she wasn't engaged...)

Back home now - afraid to say our home birth didn't go as planned although pool was great - ended up with transfer to hospital due to failure to progress after 18 hours contracting at home (only 2-3cm dilated). Had one shot of diamorphine, then synotocin (sp?) to strengthen contractions, epidural and forceps delivery and it was all fab despite this being exactly the birth plan I didn't want!

Will do a full birth story when I get a chance. Glad I gave my home birth a chance, with the back up of the hospital (5 mins by ambulance) but it just wasn't meant to be. Once at the hospital they established that Felicity's heartrate was dropping with nearly every contraction so we're glad we went.

If someone could update the list, I'd be grateful.

Will try and do individual catch ups over the next few days in between feeding. DH is completely in love with her and has decided he has a new number one girl now .

Good luck to those getting near am thinking of you.

xx

LCRLCR · 03/08/2010 19:15

Yay dibbydab huge congrats!! And you too bubba fab names both of you! Ooh I get shivers down my spine when i hear all this wonderful news.

38 week check up tomorrow it's getting close. Had a gorgeous day in the Brighton sunshine lunching and shopping with my NCT girls. Though this nesting instinct you all speak of seems to have entirely passed me by.....

mrsZaC · 03/08/2010 19:17

huge congrats dibby so glad you and baby felicity are well!! xxx

thedogwalker · 03/08/2010 19:20

Congratulations to Bubba and Dibby, so glad all went well. Wishing you and both your families lots of happiness and cuddles

12 days to go and I'm getting impatient, I just so want this to be over, fed up of feeling like poo, so hard to do anything now, just like walking is so hard, I understand exactly the painful pelvis area, too much pressure. I keep talking to my little man, aksing him to come soon . I hope he listens!!!

Hope everyone is well and there may be more birth stories by morning, go girls, go

girlsyearapart · 03/08/2010 19:40

Just a quick one to say congrats to dibby

CherryPie3 · 03/08/2010 19:52

Hello everyone and Congratulations to all of you who have become post-natal - how does it feel??

I know its a little hit and miss when I get to come join you all on here but we're having a time of it at the moment with breastfeeding.
It. Bloody. Hurts!!!

I have cracked nipples from a change in our latch and I think Corey has thrush and has given me ductal thrush too . It's agony but I refuse to give up - trying nipple shields at the moment which seem to help although I'm worried about how it's gonna affect Corey's latch afterwards - they look like a bottle teat when I have them on. Got the doctors tomorrow to see if they can prescribe anything for it because we're at the point now where I'm in tears before I even latch him on because I know it's gonna sting/bleed.

Anyway - I'm sorry it isn't a more personal post but I've missed so much and I just don't have time to read back - I'm really sorry, I feel like I've abandoned you after you were all there for e when I was pregnant. I assure you this is not the case and I'm when things are better I'll be back with you all.

Please take care and good luck to all those still waiting r currently in labour.

Love to all xxxx

CherryPie3 · 03/08/2010 20:03

btw - do we have a postnatal thread yet?

sparkle101 · 03/08/2010 20:10

Yay! Another new baby - many congratulations dibby that is a gorgeous name (and one I hadn't thought of.... hmmm)

Well we had our hospital check up to talk about the baby being breech and five minutes into the journey there I had to get DH to pull over after I had three hugely painful stomach pains - we get to the hospital and baby has turned the right way! So back to original due date.

Thanks alice for giving me the motivation to actually ask my parents for help and confronting them about their comments. My mum is more than up for coming to help - she just wanted to be asked rather than to be seen to be interfering!

Would just like to echo what celly and littlemiss have said - thank you to everyone on this thread for all your help and advice and just answering what seems like silly questions to first timers! You've been so helpful. Ta!

Chulita · 03/08/2010 20:14

vix I got some from the GP but then was too embarrassed to go back and tell them I was still clogged so bought some from an online chemist after that [sheepish and cowardly emoticon]

Congratulations dibby

cherrypie join the thrush group. It's fricking agony isn't it? We're on the second week of Fluconazole now and Sam's got Nystatin gel to try and get rid of it (thanks for pushing me to get him something blueberries) I'm also taking grapefruit seed extract and probiotics...a right alchemist at the mo. I've also resorted to taking a couple of ibuprofen every now and then just to ease the post-feed burn. Ack...it can't last forever though. Mid-wife tentatively suggested that dropping sugar and yeast helps...erm...no. What on earth would I eat if I couldn't have biscuits and toast??

vitapulchra · 03/08/2010 20:27

As you wish, Dibbydab, here it is! Whenever you get around to letting me know Felicity's (such a fab name--love it) weight I'll add that in too. Congratulations!!!!! You have such a lovely, positive attitude about your experience even though it wasn't what you planned. That's what being in love with a baby can do to you, isn't it? Love, happiness, love, happiness . . .

Congratulations dibbydab, sorry you didn't have the home birth you wanted but glad you didn't find it traumatic.

Happy to here that one of us due on the 2nd actually gave birth on our due date!

cazzybabs · 03/08/2010 20:52

Blooming contractions.... I think i am in false labour ... they are all over the shop but blinking hurt..and had more show - YUCK! I think I would feel better if they were doing something

Dibbydab - congratulations.

Caz - thinking of you, your dh and belle as always

Cherry - get over and make a post-natal thread but keep coming back here too

sparkle - glad baby has turned

pamplem0usse · 03/08/2010 20:56

LittleMiss I'm an archaeologist.... my lovely funding council have given me 9 months on full pay.... though I think I'm going to be one of the last people getting that as they're all synchronising from 1st October to 6 months paid! Taking the full year tho' as I reckon I can make up 3 months worth with child benefit/tax credits/ savings...
Dibby congratulations and beautiful name!
Sparkle pleased your LO has turned...... though as with all of us I'm thinking you'll be pretty glad when it's all over?! Thinking especially of thedogwalker... hope your symptoms ease up / your little boy arrives soon!
Cherry lovely, hope the thrush clears up soon.... well done for perservering though....
xxxx

cazzybabs · 03/08/2010 21:28

there is a lovely photo on fb os star and her little girl

Aussieng · 03/08/2010 21:36

Yeay! congratulations Dibby - love the name Felicity. Glad you're still feeling so positive despite birth not going according to plan. It's all a bit out the window once you're actually in labour isn't it?

Cazzy - fingers crossed for you and whoever else wants positive bring on labour vibes

Pample - thanks for reporting back on Caz. Caz - if you're reading, I think about you every day and wish you and your DH strength and peace. This must be such a hard time for you - I can't imagine.

Pample - my DH never got it through his head that there was simply no such thing at the end as me "just popping up the stairs" to get something for him. It must be some kind of father to be denial/mental block.

Vix - sorry your first day of mat leave was not as planned. I recall how that feels (and I still have to get a bill out on one of my clients and I can't bring myself to log onto work's server at the mo. It's hard letting go (and being let go of) but hopefully you will get there soon. Your mat leave was quite a last minute decision so it is (kind of) understandable that there might be a wind down period of longer than expected - no less frustrating though. Sorry you're so uncomfortable too - is it softened ligaments or something like that?

LittleMiss - DH and I have been married nearly 2 years having met just 2.5 years ago so although married a little longer than you, I still know what you mean about couple time. When we go to bed at night now I'm usually busy settling Jamie and feeding him and by the time he is settled DH is asleep and I miss the simplicity of just jumping into bed and snuggling up to him.

All this talk of thrush has me a little paranoid. Is there anyone bf who does not have it? Jamie has a constant white tongue. The whiteness does not disappear between feeds but does receed up his tongue and there is no whiteness on his gums or roof of his mouth and (touch wood) I seem ok at the minute. Am I just being paranoid or could it be thrush?

Cherry sorry you are having latch problems. Just goes to show you can't get smug about bf - it seems it can go tits up (pardon the expression) at any time. Are you in a position to start expressing yet?

When the list gets updated next, could someone please add J's weight - 6lb 8oz. I'm afraid to mess up the bold!

Hope everyone else is well - J and I were officially discharged from maternity care today as he's put on 10 oz and we're both thriving. Feel like you did Chulita - really proud of my body for getting him there (although truth is it is all his doing - he just seems to have good instincts).

Night all x

LittleMissSnowShine · 03/08/2010 22:06

pample - my FIL and BIL are both archaeology types! Seems like a really interesting research field, maybe you'll get inspiration a la Dan Brown to write some kind of blockbuster when you're off on leave

and big congrats to dibbydab and baby Felicity - lovely name!! Even though the birth plan went out the window sounds like you coped wonderfully and got the most important result in the end!

sorry to Chulita and Cherry for the bf problems - I'm getting a bit nervous about trying it, have been reading through the guide they gave us out at the parentcraft classes last week but it seems like such an alien concept at the minute

cazzy - sure things will quicken up over night for you and we'll soon be congratulating you on your good news!!

LCR - sounds like a lovely day for you jealous!!

ElusiveMoose · 03/08/2010 22:35

Congratulations, Dibby!! Lovely name and fantastically positive attitude in spite of the not-as-planned birth story.

Aussie I didn't want to say before, because I didn't want to disillusion anyone, but I think your phrase 'It's all a bit out the window once you're actually in labour isn't it?' pretty much sums up the whole childbirth business . Some people have fantastic births, some people have really difficult ones, and IME it doesn't seem to have that much to do with people's plans/attitude beforehand. I'm not saying there's no point in having a positive attitude or trying to make a birth plan, but I think preparing for the unexpected is one of the best things you can try to do!!

Well done all of you who are perservering with the bf'ing. Having struggled so much with it myself last time, I have so much admiration for everyone sticking with it through the hard times .

bouncingblueberries · 04/08/2010 02:05

Congratulations dibby what a beautiful name!

chulita glad you finally got some nystatin for your lo - hopefully that will do the trick.

To all you fed-up ladies - hang in there! Final stretch now!

cazzy wishing you a speedy but gentle labour!

LittleMissSnowShine · 04/08/2010 08:16

finally had a slightly restless night's sleep last night - feel like i've joined a special club of women waiting to pop now!! had a dream I was having a massive argument with OH and it was so realistic that I had to bite my tongue not to berate him when we woke up this morning lol

Better channel my irrational rage into washing sofa covers and making lasagne today. Having a day off from all this tomorrow, tho, and intending to visit my mum and have coffee with a friend - nesting can only go so far before you turn into a stepford wife. or so i've decided anyway!!

anyone's waters break during the night?? are we going to have another August baby today?

Alicetheinvisible · 04/08/2010 08:49

Morning

LittleMiss i have a long way to go til i become a stepford wife! Did make pancakes for breakfast though....

After stressing about the house the other day and the fact that DH was working all the time and i didn't know how/when things would get done, DH cleared out the conservatory last night and put all the kitchen stuff back into the kitchen and i gott the stairs and hallway cleared and hoovered, so another day like that and we could be there!

Well done Sparkle on asking your mum

Can't remember if i have already said or not but Congratulations to Dibby and Star

Cazzy how are you this morning?

MW at 10am, have gone from wanting to have some attention (second baby syndrome!) to thinking, "What a waste of my time" i really don't think this baby is coming anytime soon.

LittleMissSnowShine · 04/08/2010 10:47

Alice - I think if you find yourself stressing about housework, clearing, hoovering and making pancakes for breakfast the transformation is well underway!

MW managed to lose my blood results so got new ones this morning to check my haemoglobin levels are still ok. Rockin in at 11.5 so all good to go for labour but still forcing myself to take one iron tablet a day (yeurgh!!) just to be on the safe side.

Ah, sofa covers in the wash. Now to wash hair and make a lasagne lol

Alicetheinvisible · 04/08/2010 10:52

What a fucking joke!!!!

Just been to see MW. I am 39+2 and 2 weeks ago was measuring spot on for dates. I am now measuring 3wks over, the baby is completely free (was 3/5 engaged the last few apps) and she thinks there is no chance of this baby coming before my section date of 40+10. So what is going to happen? Nothing! Oh well, shall see you once the baby is here. I am so angry and stressed and actually feel like crying (don't ever cry, not even during pg)

So, what is the point of leaving me, growing a big baby til 40+10 to have a section, when they could give me a section now instead as i am obviously not going to get a VBAC, so why wait?

thedogwalker · 04/08/2010 11:14

Alice that doesn't sound good at all . Take it bouncing on the birthing ball is not helping at all. So why cant they section you now? What is there excuse? Are they hoping you will go into labour naturally? Surely they have to listen to your needs????

Feel for you girl, sending lots of hugs and de-stressing vibes.

Hope you feel better soon.

Alicetheinvisible · 04/08/2010 11:41

Thank you

What is stressing me is that i have essentially 15 days with not being seen. I would like to know why i am suddenly growing a big baby when i have been measuring spot on, i want to make sure that everything is ok with me and baby.
