Alice how frustrating - could you get a second opinion? Complain of itching on your skin - that will get you in for montitoring and they are sure to find soem reason to bring the section forward!

Sparkle, what fantastic news about the baby turning!

I am feeling great today cos had an early night last night. Dread to think what it's going to be like when the sleepless nights come again - I am rubbish with no sleep!

LittleMissSnowShine · 04/08/2010 11:48

Sorry Alice

Is there a way you could see your GP and talk it through with him/her? While the MWs in the hospital I'm having LO in have all been brilliant, my community MW has been pretty so-so, losing blood test results, not being able to find a heartbeat, telling me she thought I might be having twins (at 31 weeks???)

Anyway, sometimes you can get a better explanation or even just a different perspective by going to see your GP and asking these kind of questions. And, of course, if your GP ends up being in agreement with you then they usually can over ride what the MW says and contact the hospital on your behalf to move up your scheduled C section date.

Best of luck!!

Nikalah · 04/08/2010 12:04

Alice seriously the way they measure our bumps is ridiculously inaccurate - last time I saw my MW mine was measuring 4 weeks under!!! Which would have meant not only had it not grown but had also shrunk.(Had a scan and all was fine) Did your MW just use a tape measure of have you had a scan too?

Try not to get too upset - although I know from my own experience it is worrying/upsetting & a trifle annoying!

More de-stressing vibes coming from me too!

Big congrats dibby & bubba

Fingers crossed Cazzy

Still not even a twinge or BH from me!

Alicetheinvisible · 04/08/2010 12:42

Spoken to a lovely MW at the hospital and she has offered me a consultant app next tues and to go in this afternoon for monitoring and a check on size etc.

pamplem0usse · 04/08/2010 14:11

Alice glad you managed to get a consultants app (same day as mine!) silly midwife... some of them are clueless.....
Hope you feel a bit better now! xxxx

thedogwalker · 04/08/2010 14:38

Alice
Glad you got an appt. I had a scan last week and all was okay, but when I saw MW yesterday, she measured me as 2 weeks under, so that I would only be 36 weeks and nbot 38. I'm not worried and rely much nore on the scan info than a tape measure. It is hard ths late on as of 36 weeks, your amniotic fluid starts to reduce, so any measurements cannot be accurate. So dont worry to much

Any baby news from anywhere else?:???

LittleMissSnowShine · 04/08/2010 15:48

Glad you're getting to see the consultant Alice, hope that will be more helpful for you than the MW! I only have one more appt left with mine on Monday and then a hospital appt the day before due date with the other, friendlier, seemingly much more competent MWs. Won't be sorry to see the back of community MW, although I think I'll prob be seeing her again after LO is born...more's the pity!!

My bolognaise sauce is bubbling away, I got a bit more PhD research done, sofa covers are drying and I washed my hair. Wish I could have been this bouncy and energetic in last two trimesters as well lol

Any more August babies making an entrance today??

vitapulchra · 04/08/2010 15:51

Aussie How nice that you and Jamie sound so well. Re thrush: I had it very mildly when DD was born but b/c it wasn't severe we were able to rid ourselves of it within a couple of weeks. With both my DS I have had no problems. The white in Jamie's mouth sounds just like milk; you'd know if it were thrush b/c you'd both be uncomfortable. Am currently trying to time using a last pessary before labour to ensure against sharing another infection--seemed to work last time. I'll update Jamie's weight next time the list goes up.

I'm so sorry about your mw, Alice, sounds pathetic TBH. I'm glad you can see another who can give you a second opinion, as well as a consultant.

Not to sound smug, but I have the loveliest, most competent mw I could wish for. We've been talking about how big my baby could be as I've gained nearly 3 stone and my bump is truly, truly impressive. She's wrangled an extra scan for me even though I'm not due one--I haven't even felt that worried, but she says she's here to provide reassurance for all her ladies. I'm waiting to hear when it'll be.

Can't wait to hear from Star and Cazzy, hope all is going well.

Emster30 · 04/08/2010 16:28

Hello all, sorry I haven't been on for ages - i have been reading but normally only during epic breastfeeding sessions and haven't been able to reply. congratulations to the new arrivals!

sorry to hear about the thrush problems - i'm finding it uncomfortable enough without thrush. we had the 2-week growth spurt this week - on sunday evening he fed from 5.30pm to 2.30am, and on Monday night he woke up at 11pm and fed through to 4.45am. last night he slept much better but once again I couldn't get to sleep. i think it was because i had a 2 hour nap in the late afternoon. james is asleep on me now but I'm going to try to stay awake in the hopes he will sleep well again tonight and so will i.

had him weighed yesterday and he is back to birth weight - he'd put on 10oz in a week just on my milk! that does make me feel good. can whoever next does the list update his birth weight to 8lb13oz? Seems they miscalculated the conversion from kilos at the hospital, they must have read the chart off at 4.2kg instead of 4.02!

DH is out all day today - he left at 7am and won't be home before 7pm. it's my first day on my own. haven't had a chance to do any washing up/make the bed/fold the washing etc.never mind. we went out to a bumps and babies group which was nice. wanted to take the bus home as it was raining but i got on, swiped my oyster card (so paid £1.20) and then the driver told me the pushchair spaces were full. grr! had to walk home after all.

fingers crossed for some more august babies very soon!

pamplem0usse · 04/08/2010 16:35

LittleMiss we had a chat amongst my NCT friends over coffee and the overwhelming feeling was that our community midwives are generally lacking..... I've also been much more impressed by the hospital ones. I do wonder if it's to a large extent because they're massively understaffed though (though to be fair I can't blame my first one's attitude problem on this!)
In the middle of cooking a slow-cook lamb and roasted veg stew for the freezer....... to add to the lentil and mushroom ragu, caramelised onion and cheese tart and tomato and tomato and chilli sauces.... think I'll just do a curry then all done!
I'm finding this trimester is ALOT slower than my last one (where I was fortunately bouncing around with energy as I had my PhD upgrade and about 40k words to do - though haven't touched it for weeks now :s).....

And yay to my birthing ball having arrived!
Oh and DH and I are getting on much better now he's going OUT to work during the day. I can sit around and do what I fancy without being pestered (he's a tendency to ask me what else I'm going to do with myself if I'm sat on the computer / watching tele which is a bit irritating) and he can have a productive day before coming home for family cuddles! Love him to bits but him going out is necessary for us both to avoid being stir crazy....
And have just ordered a lovely lulu guinness makeup bag

Aussieng · 04/08/2010 18:05

Thanks vita I'm woefully uninformed about thrush!

Alice - glad you have a consultant appointment. Remember the day before my waters broke I'd been told by my consultant that J was unlikely to make an appearance for at least 8 days! As others hVe said the whole measuring thing is terribly inaccurate.

Emster - we had a night like that last night. It's surprising how hard work one night can be and how quickly you stArt questioning yourself.

Got my dad staying for a few nights - could be hard work. Dh tells me that he has just dashed off to asda for abirthday card as he (ie my dad) had forgotten that tomorrow is my birthday ah well, I guess that is how it goes once you have children!

thedogwalker · 04/08/2010 18:44

OMG the pain in my pubic bone area is intense tonight, I can barely walk ouch, ouch, ouch, how on earth am I going to cope with labour

LittleMissSnowShine · 04/08/2010 20:09

pample - I'm like that with OH too! At the minute he only has to leave for work at 9 and he's usually back by 4ish, because he's a teacher in an alternative education project and they don't have any kids in over the summer but lots of paperwork and funding applications to do. But knowing that I'll have the house to myself for 7 hours is bliss - I can clean, cook, sleep, read, chat on the phone, meet friends for coffee etc etc and we don't drive each other crazy!!

dogwalker - ouch! have you tried a hot water bottle? that doesn't sound like much fun!!

Vita glad your MW has been much better than mine! I've been pretty lucky cos my GP is lovely, hospital staff are all great and the crap community MW was away for two of my appointments so I got the other community MW who fills in for her, who is lovely! But it really goes to show the difference having calm, competent, reassuring people around can make to your anxiety levels and general well being. I'd def think about changing my GP surgery next time round to lessen likelihood of getting the same community MW again :-/

just had dinner at the in-laws and cajoled DH into putting sofa covers back on sofa for me. going to tackle the other one on Friday, lovely to have clean seats...at least until they get covered in baby sick!!

Chulita · 04/08/2010 20:22

alice if it's any help Sam wasn't engaged even the morning he was born - it doesn't mean anything! They don't measure you here cos they say it's highly inaccurate.

thedogwalker hope your pain settles down! My pubic bone still hurts, I'm hoping it sorts itself out...

vix206 · 04/08/2010 22:32

Hey girls, am on my phone so pls excuse any typos! I had mw appt today and when she checked urine she said verbally that it was 'all fine' but just checked in my notes and she has written leucs+ which means (Tom what I have read) sign of infection??? She said nothing about it to me even tho I gold her I'm in a lot of discomfort down there and feel I constantly need a wee. I guess at 38 wks that is normal but I won't see her now until birth or 41 weeks whichever comes first.

What do you reckon I should do? I dint have her number just community midwife office, not sure whether to do nothing or ring mw or gp or what? All I do know is I am in discomfort and if it's a treatable infection I'd like to get it treated rather than suffer unnecessarily.

vix206 · 04/08/2010 22:33

Yep typos galore in last post, blinking Iphones! X

USMum27 · 04/08/2010 23:24

Vix when I was admitted to hospital at 24 weeks I had leucs+ in my urine and the GP had given me a script for antibiotics as he thought it was a bladder infection BUT the midwives at the hospital (who are lovely and very competent) told me that it was quite normal for pregnant women to have some leucs in the urine and in our case it wasn't a sign of infection. Unless there is a lot of pain when you wee, they say not to worry about it. I am nearly 38 wks and have to pee constantly and am having quite a bit of discomfort but am putting it down to baby resting on the bladder .... but definitely call the midwife or your GP (doctor is probably better) if you think you have an UTI!

vix206 · 05/08/2010 05:34

Thanks USMum, I think you're right and it's nothing to fret about just wish they'd explained it to me at the time!

Alicetheinvisible · 05/08/2010 09:01

Morning

Thanks for all the sympathy yesterday, sorry for ranting!

So, the outcome is that my MW either thought she was being reassuring or she is incompetant It was technically my last app as due next monday. I had some things i wanted to go through with her (preferences for birth, wobbles about vbac etc) but left feeling like i was having this huge monster baby, no questions even really got chance to be asked, and no more appointments even if i go overdue. It was as i was leaving and she said "See you onc you have the baby" that i very nearly fell apart. When pg with DD she was due on the tues, but the mw had pencilled in an app for 2 days after if i hadn't gone into labour.

Spoke to lovely MW at the hospital antenatal clinic and went in to the MFAU to talk to a MW, be checked etc. All really kind. Have booked me in for an app next tuesday there and i can be checked, have a sweep if i want and talk through the vbac and bring forward the cs if i want to. feeling really calm and happy about it.

Oh, and the MW at the hosp measured me as 38 and said it is so innaccurate, and that there was no telling whether i would have the baby in 10 hrs or 10days especially if the cervix hasn't even been checked.

marzipananimal · 05/08/2010 09:10

morning all, glad the hospital midwives have cheered you up alice.
vix it sounds like you might have a UTI (although as USmum says it could be just a late pregnancy thing). If i were you I'd drink loads today to try and flush it out and ring your GP so they can check it out.

My mum went home last night after doing lots of cleaning, cooking, washing up and drinking cups of tea with me. Feeling a wee bit lonely now...

Hope things are improving for those of you who are finding breastfeeding tough x

Alicetheinvisible · 05/08/2010 09:31

Hey Marzi if you are bored you can tell me iabu on my thread everyone else is!

pamplem0usse · 05/08/2010 11:12

Alice where's the thread?!
Vix I've had this three times.... the first time the midwife went into a mad panic about it (I eventually 'got rid' of her because of her general unprofessionalism).... three lots of samples processed at the hospital and they confirmed there was no infection, just quirk of pregnancy.
Second time I was in hospital being treated for a stomach bug and had it.... maybe related the the stomach bug, maybe not, but I was told that if there was any issue it would clear up itself.
Third time midwife (new midwife) asked if I'd been having any stinging going to the loo.... I'm not. I'm going to the loo bloody loads though! She said, again, a pregnancy quirk....
TBH I'm not worried because I've had no other symptoms and it was all checked out a couple of times. Plus I don't want to be taking unnecessary antibiotics...... but if you ARE getting stinging just ring the GP and he'll prescribe you sth.

Anyone got the new Arcade Fire album.... loving it. Shame I can't really dance atm!

cazzybabs · 05/08/2010 11:19

I have done it - Poppy Susannah was born yesterday at 5am in the morning. Labour started properly at about 11pm, woke dh up at about 3am having been downstairs moaning and using TENS. Got to hospital about 4.20am and she was born at 5.04am. She is tiny - 6lbs. But it is so nice t be up and able to walk about. Had some tiny grazes but don't seem to be bothering me. Her sisters seem to adore her - fighting over who would hold her. Had a night is hospital because of the blood pressure which has righted itself. Breast feeding seems to be going ok - she had loads after she was born. Anyway shall post some photos on facebook although dh has already put some up!
Am thinking of the rest of you

JamieJay · 05/08/2010 11:21

Congratulations cazzy, glad you had a nice birth and love the name.

thedogwalker · 05/08/2010 11:24

Congratulations Cazzy great name, I love Poppy.

Glad you are both well and it seems you have another positive birth story, cannot wait to hear it

Oh so happy for you.
