My toddler died today

My baby died today. I found him in his cot this morning. He was completely well yesterday and has no health problems. They are completing a post mortem today.
I don’t know what to do. Why would a healthy child just die? I have a 4 year old and don’t know how to handle it with him. Any advice welcome, I’m obviously a mixture of completely numb and a mess.

I am so sorry, Op Flowers

Winston's Wish is an organisation for bereaved children. Their website is www.winstonswish.org
You can contact them by phone on 08088 020 021 (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm) or email [email protected]
They will be able to advise how to talk to your 4 year old. In my experience, factual and calm is best if you are able to do that.

Child bereavement UK are also a helpful source: www.childbereavementuk.org

Take time for yourself, too. It's very easy to be caught up in supporting other family members and you keep busy to cope with the pain. You will need support for yourself, too, so take up any offers of help and don't be afraid to ask. People want to help.

So sorry for your loss.

Hopefully you will, in time, be able to make contact with a local support group who can give you helpful advice as to how to deal with this in terms of explaining things to your 4 year old. xx

OP when a close relative of mine lost a child this organisation was extremely helpful:

www.childbereavementuk.org/

The very fact that they understand without being a part of the immediate family can be very helpful. They support other children and family members as well as the bereaved parents.

So so sorry for your loss.
This must truly be the worst thing anyone can go through.
When you’re ready and at your own pace I would look to contact charities such as SANDS or The Lullaby Trust. They both have support groups, support helplines, lots of helpful advice on their sites and more.
