My toddler died today

My baby died today. I found him in his cot this morning. He was completely well yesterday and has no health problems. They are completing a post mortem today.
I don’t know what to do. Why would a healthy child just die? I have a 4 year old and don’t know how to handle it with him. Any advice welcome, I’m obviously a mixture of completely numb and a mess.

I’m so sorry. Be prepared for no answer. We all want answers and in our grief say, why, why, why, but so often in situations like this there is no clear answer. It’s a case of why do bad things happen to good people to which there is no answer and you have no responsibility or control over this tragedy.
Take care and get support from a bereavement group

Contact one of the child bereavement charities such as winston's wish or Jeremiah's journey who will be able to advis you on how to cope with your four year old, and how children's way of handling grief is different to adults (sorry can't link from this device)

My 2 month old great-niece died of SIDS in July...the most awful circumstances because the family were on holiday abroad at the time. They too had a 3 year old.
All I can say is they have a local charity that deals with bereaved parents and that was hugely helpful and will continue to be.
The first few weeks were a blur of pain for everyone, but slowly there has been progress - like talking to other parents from the charity.
Their friends were and still are a huge support.
Keep talking...talk to friends, family, counsellors etc.
Also grief is personal and no 2 people grieve the same.
Be kind to yourself and your world WILL start to spin again.

Oh OP, sending you love and my prayers for you and your darling.

There is nothing we can say to make this better - please just try to get through this for the sake of your 4 year old as you will probably be on auto pilot for a long, long time.

Please also keep chatting to us here as you need to .

I am so very sorry.
There is no right way for you to act or grieve, do whatever you need to and don’t feel you have to support others/hold anything back/in.
So very sorry x x

I’ve had really good experience with Winston’s Wish. I’d recommend contacting them.
