Crazy names you considered?

During my pregnancy, my partner & I got rather excited about naming our now four-month-old twins. We ended up naming them Cristiano & Nahlia but we did consider Nathaneri & Raya, Kelis & Jamesison, & even Thelma & Caddi.

Don't judge me, I was hormonal! Given the chance, I'd have named them Fork & Knife! :-)

Just wondered what crazy/funny/embarrassing names you considered for your little one?

Aloysius

We both really wanted the name Spike or Felix but with our surname it is fairly similar to calling our DS Mike (surname rhymes with rude word)

My DH made up the name Ralphred because I liked the name Ralph but DH thought there should be a more formal form of it! Needless to say we didn't call either of our DS Ralphred.

My friend was seriously considering Chablis for a girl.
Thank God she ended up with boys.

Easywriter · 29/06/2010 23:11

Artemesia for a girl, she could be called Art or Arty for short.
DP said he'd rather bleed out of his eyes!

pissedrightoff · 29/06/2010 23:11

My DD was very nearly called Dallas, actually I still like that name.
My next dog will be called Dallas instead,

GoodDaysBadDays · 29/06/2010 23:13

Ds1
Zenith (boy)
Xanthie (girl)

ds2
Winston
Stanley
Red

And dd1
Florence
Beatrice

In the end, they actually all were given very sedate, sensible names and now sound like three pensioners

Easywriter · 29/06/2010 23:14

Never met a boy named Herod!

P'dRightOff - Just think how many (name) does Dallas gags she'd have had to endure!!

pissedrightoff · 29/06/2010 23:32

Easy= I blame the hormones!!!!

LetThemEatCake · 29/06/2010 23:35

what a fab thread!!

when I wasn't pregnant, I wanted twins - Peregrine (boy) and Persephone (girl) - Perry and Persy for short!!

contenders in actual pregnancy included:

Samson
Aslan
Ravi
Zacchaeus
Zebediah
Zephaniah
Benedict
Griffin
Tennyson
Pele

My two boys have unusual-ish names, but not too daft

Only ever liked 2 girls names, and we only have 1 girl. I'm saving the other name (Anoushka) ... just in case ...

Sooooo wanted to call our DS 'Elvis' as we did the whole Elvis Las Vegas wedding thing and the song 'Little Less Conversation...' was re-released when we first met. Also, as a teacher I know that if I saw the name Elvis on my register that boy would have my full attention before I had even met him! We bottled out in the end with a much more classic name but did sneak Elvis in as a middle name. My students insist on still referring to my DS as Elvis!

jabberwocky · 30/06/2010 00:39

I REALLY wanted ds1 to be Elvis! There was some discussion of an extra middle name but in the end we didn't use it

jabberwocky · 30/06/2010 00:54

Oh, and dh wanted to use his best friend's last name for ds2 - Baeder. I considered it until someone said Master.....

immediate veto

CheerfulYank · 30/06/2010 02:41

@jabberwocky.

JebusBuiltMyHotQuads · 30/06/2010 03:38

I really love the name Loki for a boy...DH quickly put an end to that

Ditto Roman, which I have loved ever since Junior school when I was fascinated by the Romans.

When I was a hippy 10 year-old i wanted a girl called Coral

hester · 30/06/2010 03:51

Oh god... I had Isadora (Dora for short), Dorcas and Cora on my list. I still like them, actually way better than the name we eventually used, but my family were united in horror.

I was nearly called Hedwig.

YunoYurbubson · 30/06/2010 04:28

If dd had been a boy, dh wanted to call him Pylon.

CarmenSanDiego · 30/06/2010 04:35

I wanted to call ds Rockstar but was vetoed by pretty much everyone except dd1.

Not crazy, we live in California FFS

Sibble · 30/06/2010 05:08

what is it with Elvis - dh wanted to call both ds's Elvis when I said NO he stropped and I got to choose both times - result

alle01 · 30/06/2010 06:27

a friend? of mine told me when i was pregnant that if it was a girl i should call her ikea, didn't take very well my laughing at her, though

veryconfusedandupset · 30/06/2010 06:57

Well, if my 2 sensibly named sons had been girls they were really due to be called Otillie Rose and Miranda Felicity - I cringe at what could so nearly have come about - and they have a jolly good laugh.

BouncingTurtle · 30/06/2010 07:51

QueenofDreams - what on Earth makes your DH think Seth is not a real name? It is one of the oldest names in the bible - the 3rd son of Adam and Eve!

DS was nearly called Alejandro. I really wanted a Spanish name(I'm half Spanish) for him, and both DH and I loved that particular name, but it was be soooo wrong with our very English surname. Should have made DH change HIS name to mine when we married!!

I then really wanted Edward. DH wasn't so keen so in the end we compromised and Edward is DS's middle name. I still think DS looks more like an Edward though (I sometimes call him Teddy Bear!).

blondiep14 · 30/06/2010 08:48

DS2 has Elvis as a middle name too
I wish it could have been his first name but DP would never have it.
Still amazed actually I got it in at all. DP often fails to mention he has a middle name!

ElusiveMoose · 30/06/2010 09:23

Oh, and forgot to mention that the same DH who vetoed Atticus was simultaneously campaigning for Baldur .

alexisfaith · 30/06/2010 10:09

Ha ha, to the poster who chose 'Lochinvar'. It's Lochinver and I'm from there. I'm sorry but I feel so that my home could be used as a baby name and spelt incorrectly at that!

alexisfaith · 30/06/2010 10:12

I meant not !
