Crazy names you considered?

During my pregnancy, my partner & I got rather excited about naming our now four-month-old twins. We ended up naming them Cristiano & Nahlia but we did consider Nathaneri & Raya, Kelis & Jamesison, & even Thelma & Caddi.

Don't judge me, I was hormonal! Given the chance, I'd have named them Fork & Knife! :-)

Just wondered what crazy/funny/embarrassing names you considered for your little one?

DD1 is Grace - she is now nearly 8 but when I was pregnant I rang my Dad and said "hmm, I LOVE the name Grace (we had already decided and stuck on it) but I think it might get popular. I think I will christen her Gracia". My dad just laughed. Gracia is not a name that sounds quite right being shouted by a scouser!

i really want a lord of the rings name, like eowyn or arwen for a girl, faramir or aragorn for a boy for dc2

not doing it though....but i do want to

TheFruitWhisperer · 29/06/2010 12:52

Clover is a good one.... I really like that!

So far DP has vetoed Hubbell, Rex and Buddy.

NormaSknockers · 29/06/2010 12:53

I really wanted Ariel for DD, I was put off by everyone thinking I wanted to name her after a washing powder!

Omarlittlest · 29/06/2010 12:53

we knew we were having a dd and the name i loved Beatrice - was considered nuts in the Netherlands where i live cos the that's what the queen is called . Also my favourite name for a girl is Adrienne but dh's grandfather, father, eldest brother and nephew all are called Adrian so impossible....

we were getting desperate at one point also to find something pronouncable in dutch and english and still laugh at my dh's propsal 'Morrisen'! wtf !

she ended up being super normal Kate

Megglevache · 29/06/2010 13:23

Ds was going to be Thilo (about 6 hours before he was born as my dh would not discuss names. I think deep down I must have chosen it so he'd come up with a better one LOL. Before this crazy plan and all the time I was pregnant he was Henry- which is a name my husband said he didn't hate. he wouldn;t let me have Hugo which I had my heart set on.

Although I adore his name now and couldn't imagine having changed it he is so like a Henry it's unreal :-). I have a feeling ds's name will be mega popular in about 10 years time.

My daughter we thought was a boy and my dear dh decided we would call him Hugo....tosser told everyone that would listen and he would lap up all the comments of "lovely" and pass it off as his own suggestion.

I had this crazy notion that I could not go home without naming her and there were so many on my list that I adored which my dh said no way to, the ones I remember were

Margarita
Flores
Clementine
Anna
Dorothea
Dora
Iris

We had to compromise and chose a very old fashion classic name which is on the rise.

Strange thing is our children then went on to have nick names which stuck- although they've gone off them now which can be a bit confusing as all family members call them by their nick names- which are a bit mad.

I think is fab.

bintofbohemia · 29/06/2010 13:26

Arwen's cool. I like Arianwen too, if we ever have a dd might consider it.

Megglevache · 29/06/2010 13:26

If a baby landed on my lap right now I'd call him Douglas or Edgar!

Megglevache · 29/06/2010 13:27

I know an Arwen- hated, hated, hated it at first but now LOVE it. It's so unique and pretty.

C4ro · 29/06/2010 13:31

I have been winding my mum up that I would call a DS "Gandalf Nigel".

Unfortunately I'm having a girl so can't use it, it has rather grown on me though so you'd better pray no boy children come my way...

As well as names you didn't use, does anyone else quiz their parents on what they would have been if they have been the other gender? My DH would have been Petra (his dad is Peter so thats criminal, and it sounds like a dog). My parents couldn't remember their alternate boy names for me (they claim).

Stray · 29/06/2010 13:48

DS was always going to be Tyler even before I was pregnant, we just couldn't decide about middle names, DH hates middle names (his is Herman ~sniggger~) I wanted Marcus (in memory of my brother who died before I was born). We ended up tossing a coin in the regestry office... I losed

Poor DD was almost called Prudence! DH also liked Meridith, or Sariha [hnn] We final went with Trinity and I asked for her to have a middle name Just after having given birth

BessieBoots · 29/06/2010 13:50

Cledwyn.

loler · 29/06/2010 13:57

Hormones have a lot to answer for!

A week before ds2 was born I went off his lovely name that I have been positive about for weeks and was stuck between Quinn (from one of those 5001-names-of-which-only-20-are-sane books)and Sorley (from a birth record from 1800s - this poor man's middle name was Boy - Sorley Boy what a name!).

I asked for opinions on here - got Quinn = Quim - went right off it. Sorley got the reaction you would expect. Went for original name. But will one day have a dog called Sorley!

Had an amazingly huge long list of completely awful girls names - thank goodness he was a boy!

glammanana · 29/06/2010 14:24

When second son was born decided on Ross for him, when hubby and DS/DD came to visit first
nite DD looked into the cot and commented
that because he had a slight ginger cast to
his hair that his looked like a fish finger,
every time I looked at him after that I saw a fish finger looking back at me,so major
discussion and name changed to Benn,my daughter went on to call her 3rd son Ross
but his hair was black !

AbFabT · 29/06/2010 14:26

My friends named their DS Spike (now aged five) and another couple of friends called their DD Clover (six months). Imho, much better than anything in the top ten.

fuzzypicklehead, I have long-wanted to give my future DD the middle name Danger. I am due with our first in October, still super keen on it, but sadly DH is having none of it. I'm working on him still, but I don't think I'll get my way.

Traintastic · 29/06/2010 14:30

jayden for a boy or McKenzie for a girl. I actually still quite like McKenzie but DH said no way. Ended up with a boy NOT called Jayden!

takethatlady · 29/06/2010 14:30

lulabellarama I'm actually going for that! It was my granddad's name

LynetteScavo · 29/06/2010 14:33

Amadeus and Mika were on my list for DS1.

shieldbug · 29/06/2010 14:38

I seriously love Peregrine for a boy, but not only has dh vetoed it, but my bro nicked it for his ds' middle name.

I was nearly Ursula, but thankfully my Mum dug her heels in and refused. (I know it means little bear, but I just don't like the sound of it).

sam12 · 29/06/2010 14:40

My wedding planner was called Ariel- and he was a man- a big butch straight man at that!!

LostArtofKeepingASecret · 29/06/2010 14:43

Ryder and Bodie for DS.

A couple of the names on here are in my DC class .

gingerkirsty · 29/06/2010 14:45

@ SilveryMoon if my DD had been a boy, DH wanted to call her Ford! It originated from Ford Prefect in the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, but I said everyone would think he'd been conceived in our Focus!!!

I was almost called Cona, had a lucky escape there.

Friends almost called their son Wolfgang - Wolfie for short which I can see but Wolfgang a bit much!

My friend's DP wanted to call their DD Moon, amongst other weird names. She has a lovely name now although it too is very unusual.

toccatanfudge · 29/06/2010 14:47

I always said if I had twin girls I would call them Chelsea and Alexis.......

I still would actuallly don't have a middle name for Chelsea - but would have been Alexis Yananai

If I had a girl in the future I'd still want to call her Alexis..........but unless I meeet another Zimbabwean would have to change the middle name as it wouldn't be right.
