Crazy names you considered?

During my pregnancy, my partner & I got rather excited about naming our now four-month-old twins. We ended up naming them Cristiano & Nahlia but we did consider Nathaneri & Raya, Kelis & Jamesison, & even Thelma & Caddi.

Don't judge me, I was hormonal! Given the chance, I'd have named them Fork & Knife! :-)

Just wondered what crazy/funny/embarrassing names you considered for your little one?

Don't have any names myself, but this website has some ridiculous fabulous names!

QueenofDreams · 29/06/2010 19:55

Haha Not posh I just had to study The Tempest for A levels. And I don't use Ariel washing powder so tend to forget it exists.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 29/06/2010 20:11

still love River for a girl

DH is adamant he wants Xavier for a boy so he can call him X for short...I married a geek

We seriously toyed with Mylo or Luca for a boy, and Lyra or Lola for a girl, but with our surname (one syllable beginning with L), they all sound like cheap porn stars...gutted

amistillsexy · 29/06/2010 20:13

thought I'd pop in and let you know some of our ideas. All for boys, we had lovely names lined up for girls (which never appeared!)...
Studley
Homer
Lochinvar (nn Lochi)

I really wanted to call our 3rd ds Noah, but our surname's Moore...(say it out loud!!!)

BarbieLovesKen · 29/06/2010 20:20

Naoise (Nee-Sha) for a boy which I still secretly think is gorgeous but everyone I mentioned it to (including dh) thought it was ridiculous and a definate girls name..

MerryMarigold · 29/06/2010 20:27

We were definitely calling our twins of Tamsin and James until the week before they were born.

So glad they ended up as Wiss and Woo! (ok, they're nicknames!)

SuperAmoo · 29/06/2010 20:30

Our surname is Webb and we joked about calling a girl Charlotte or if it was a boy..spider. Then in January a boy started at DD1's preschool named.....Spyder Webbb - I personally think that's highly silly!

DanJARMouse · 29/06/2010 20:31

My husband wanted to call DS Rafferty.

Would have gone VERY well with a surname of McCafferty!

lucky1979 · 29/06/2010 20:40

My Dad REALLY wanted to call me Clytemnestra. Fortuately Mum had more sense.

pennyprincess · 29/06/2010 20:40

Not sure if this is in the theme of the thread but my ds1 had a hospital appointment recently and the child called in b4 him was called 'liam brady'. Surely a poor name choice.

stroppyshopper · 29/06/2010 20:44

wanted to name my daughter Indiana, nn Indie. I still like it. Friends convinced us it was ridiculous.

dexifehatz · 29/06/2010 20:45

Thurston, Bertie,Reed,Gillespie,Jakoby for boys and Betty-Diva,Fennella,Cindy and Embeth-Sofia for girls.

stroppyshopper · 29/06/2010 20:49

Oh, and Caledonia -- went to Uni with a Caledonia, nn Callie, and I just love the name. DH refused. Plus I googled it with our surname and turns out its a type of bed.

LtEveDallas · 29/06/2010 21:01

I wanted Calico for a girl......WTF?

Also loved Willow and Xanthe which aren't quite as strange!

Loved Kai for a boy, but had agreed on Ro as a middle name (family thing) so couldn't. Vetoed Dh choice of Cody for the same reason (cod roe). In the end if Dd had been a boy she would have been Madoc

girlynut · 29/06/2010 21:09

My neighbour's boys are Kobe and Bae. She's a teacher so has to have something different to the hundreds of children she teaches. She's currently pregnant with no. 3 so I might pass on some of the suggestions here...!

101damnations · 29/06/2010 21:13

Demelza
Damaris
Artemis
Inez
Caleb
Zander

All vetoed by DH,some with good reason as our surname begins with S,so names ending in s kind of run into each other.

LouIsWaltzingMatilda · 29/06/2010 21:26

Teddington is a place near Richmond!

A friend actually gave his son the middle name 'Danger'.

LouIsWaltzingMatilda · 29/06/2010 21:29

And you thought your name was bad

devilsadvocaat · 29/06/2010 21:35

i love juno for a girl, vetoed by dh...

we had boys anyway

zipzap · 29/06/2010 21:39

I wanted Ptolomy for a boy but dh wouldn't let me - thought he could be Tolly or PT or lolo for short (or Pete if he wanted something very ordinary from an unusal name).

Also fancied jethro as a middle name - again got out-voted (not sure quite how if it was 1 for and 1 against ) and have ended up with name I really am very blah about - it's a name, happens to be a name of a good friend but it's not after him, dh just thought it went well with the first name. And he kept saying no to the other ones I came up with, not that there were many as didn't have a very long shortlist of boys names (loads of girls names though).

Our appointment to register ds2's name was very close to the cut off time so we couldn't change it as there weren't any more legal appointments left. it had been a really hectic few weeks for a number of reasons over and above having to get used to having a new baby in the mix and so we just never really got to have a proper conversation about names. ended up with me in tears at the registrar's office because I was so unhappy with what we ended up with (I also suddenly remembered that I wanted to include my surname as a middle name but dh vetoed it as we had forgotten to do it for ds1 and he thought they should both have it or neither) Still doesn't seem real that the name we ended up with is my son's name IYSWIM.

CheerfulYank · 29/06/2010 21:40

I really liked both Willow and River at one time, but our last name is a noun so it just would not have worked.

DH and I had a brief flirtation with Brannigan after the captain on Futurama. My mother looked at me like I was out of my mind, rightly so. DS is Sam.

ElusiveMoose · 29/06/2010 21:56

Queenofdreams does your DH have any reason for saying Seth is not a real name? I ask because I'm due in six weeks and it's currently top of our list. (By the way, this isn't a stroppy 'how dare you criticise the name' comment, I'm genuinely interested!)

(Oh, and the name I desperately wanted for DS1 was Atticus, but DH vetoed. Considered trying for it again this time round, but given that we went for Paul for DS1 in the end, I'm not sure we could get away with something as unusual as Atticus for his brother.)

MaineGirl · 29/06/2010 21:59

some of these names are fabulous!
for ds1 i went with my mad name, was a name i remembered from my history of politics a level (probably about all i remember tbh, xh wanted to call him Eric.
ds2 i had Jasper, Casper, Morgan, but hes William.
dd1 i dint have any unusual names really, freya, india, grace but shes a Lucy.
dd2, well xh leftg me at 36 weeks pregnant so i got my own back b calling her esme whihc he hated. short list was Phoebe, although when i found out i was expecting her was convinced she would be a boy called ryder!

Gemjar · 29/06/2010 21:59

ds was referred to as Olaf the Indestructible for a while. I did tell dh that the only way i would let him actually call our son that is if he emerged with a long beard, wielding an axe....

Fortunately he didn't
