Crazy names you considered?

During my pregnancy, my partner & I got rather excited about naming our now four-month-old twins. We ended up naming them Cristiano & Nahlia but we did consider Nathaneri & Raya, Kelis & Jamesison, & even Thelma & Caddi.

Don't judge me, I was hormonal! Given the chance, I'd have named them Fork & Knife! :-)

Just wondered what crazy/funny/embarrassing names you considered for your little one?

If DS had have been a girl, I would have wanted to call her Shannon - a name I have always loved.

Not so bad, you may think? Well it is when you consider that my ExDP's surname is Hannon. She would have been Shannon Hannon, ffs!!! Poor cow - I really thought we would have gotten away with it as well!!!!!

As a kid I always really loved the name Clover - but for myself! I remember announcing to my mum that I was changing it to Clover at about age 8 and my nan turning around and saying; "what - like a cow?!"

When I told the woman doing my 20-week scan that I was thinking of Ursula for a girl, she said "Thank goodness it's a boy then" and for rudeness.

My cousin is called Unity.

mathanxiety · 29/06/2010 18:25

ExH wanted DS to be called Columcille

lolalotta · 29/06/2010 18:25

My Mum swears she alomost called me "Dorcus"!
[hmmm]Lucky escape there then.

ronx · 29/06/2010 18:26

DH (D for deluded) wants our next child to be called Boudicca if it's a girl...

lolalotta · 29/06/2010 18:26

Why didn't my sceptical face work?

lolalotta · 29/06/2010 18:27
Hmm
lolalotta · 29/06/2010 18:28

There you go, I think "Dorcus" deserved the effort... and she still maintains she likes it and it's a beautiful name.

Newton
Darwin
Wolf!

But managed to come up with something in the end that we both preferred.

We had a name for a girl lined up and my mum hated it. She was so relieved when we had a boy and never tired of saying how good it was that the dreadful name never got used. Then I got pg again and had a girl and yes, we did use the name and pissed my mum off royally.

We have a mad surname (first 4 letters of my MN NN) so had a lot of fun whilst I was pg, thinking of calling the poor child Everlasting, Unrequited, Star-Crossed or Valentine.

Bit us in the arse when they wanted to induce DD on 14th Feb... we insisted they waited til the 15th and thank God she wasn't actually born til the 16th!

I always wanted Dorian for a boy, but Birds of a Feather royally fucked that one up!

Also liked Ariel, Lucien, Sebastian and Gabriel, but DH was of the opinion that he'd have the crap beaten out of him in the playground every day, so it's as well we had a girl!

DD tells us regularly that she wishes she'd been called Chantelle....

I wanted the following for our dd Tanith (first name) Kiedis or Reznor for middle names... I really wish I'd stood my ground, she has a very pretty but pedestrian name now.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 29/06/2010 19:08

I rather like Ursula, Unity, Dorcas (although wouldn't use that one) and Tanith.

MetallicThrumming · 29/06/2010 19:13

DH wanted Dolores for a girl.

I kept saying it's a stereotype tart-with-a-heart name but he had a nun called Sister Dolores teach him so wouldn't take that argument.

As it means "Lady of Sorrows" I said he could have it "over my dead body," literally; if I died in childbirth. Lucky for DD I lived!

I am so gutted however that I never thought of Danger as a middle name. How absolutely fab! (Although all my DCs are very cautious)

RunawayWife · 29/06/2010 19:14

Almost called DS1 Phillip but changed mind.
My sister then married someone called Phillip who turned out to be a twat and they are now divorced.

DitaVonCheese · 29/06/2010 19:17

DH is very keen on Danger for a middle name. I have gone off it slightly since discovering it is Austin Powers' middle name.

huffythethreadslayer · 29/06/2010 19:34

She was nearly Elora Dannon, after the magic baby in Willow, the movie .

DH pointed out that if she as a little heavy (as his sister was from birth) she could end up being called Fat Lorry (Fat being easily derived from our surname!) so I changed my mind.

I had visions of calling her Laurie myself, or Ellie or Lora. Poor little mite had a very narrow escape. Is now called Caitlin Megan...though that may turn out to be a curse as it's paired with a VERY Welsh sounding surname (and we're in Yorkshire...so I always feel like I'm taking the mickey when I talk to someone Welsh).

Some of these near misses are priceless...

IsThatTheTime · 29/06/2010 19:38

I wanted to call my DD1 Flora until one of my friends said, "mmm, easily spreadable". She is now called something else.
(I really like Ariel too, think I am utter marketing victim, what's next, calling DD3 Aptamil FFS?)

moomaker · 29/06/2010 19:40

If I had been male, it was Boris Otto

huffythethreadslayer · 29/06/2010 19:45

I really liked the name Harrison (after Harrison Ford) but have since met one who is a little b**ger...so has put me off slightly.

Won't be having any more, so no longer have to worry about names. I had a friend who wanted to call her dd Cassiopeia (after the constellation). She ended up calling her Miranda instead. We did laugh at Cassiopeia (not very tactful I know...but we were young then). Miranda would have been fine, but with the surname it's a bit of a mare.....

QueenofDreams · 29/06/2010 19:49

Why the problems with Ariel? I tend to think of the little mermaid or Shakespeare's The Tempest when I hear Ariel.

I really hope Sebastian doesn't get kicked round the playground at school as that's my DS's name

Girl's names I wanted were Cecily (my sister has now named her DD2 this), Yvette or Rhianna. All vetoed by DP who is firmly in the 'Elizabeth and Catherine' camp

I really like Seth for a boy's name but again has been vetoed by DP as 'it's not a real name' apparently he is currently suggesting William if DC2 is a boy

Don't know if any of those count as near misses though!

IsThatTheTime · 29/06/2010 19:52

You are clearly posher than me, QueenofDreams, I think of washing powder when I think of Ariel, not Shakespeare

Spacehoppa · 29/06/2010 19:54

Clint. As is Clint Westwood
