A cousin of mine named their daughter Persephone, which had us all talking as it's so unusual.
What are the most unusual names you've ever heard of?

Oh and a I taught a child called Perry Kev Ryan, not so unusual but she was a girl and her parents were so disappointed they gave her boys names!

Fimbo · 28/04/2010 17:26

I once knew someone who called her DS Beowulf.

kateyfer · 28/04/2010 17:30

twinmumplus1inthetum: how cruel surely her parents just named her for the Harry Enfield Kevin and Perry comedy sketch?

pinkmagic1 · 28/04/2010 17:35

I went to school with 2 brothers called Zeus and Bead!

Florin · 28/04/2010 19:05

twinmumplus1inthetum · 28/04/2010 21:41

kateyfer - no really there was no joke or irony about it and was named after her dad and grandpa. She was so pretty though she carried it off.
Florin - that is classic

CaptainNancy · 28/04/2010 22:08

I am sitting here open-mouthed at Florin's addition...

hogshead · 28/04/2010 22:19

one of my mum's relatives was called Zilla which i really liked but was totally vetoed by DH

nelliesmum · 28/04/2010 22:24

There was a poor little sod at Alton Towers last week called Dolph, but maybe his parents were foreign.

The worst I ever heard was a woman screeching at her dd in a supermarket in Bracknell, the child's name was Cantona, as in the footballer's surname.

TOK · 28/04/2010 22:26

Syxe (pronounced six) and Solo

Purplebuns · 28/04/2010 22:53

Sparkle, little girl.

Cortana Autumn, girl named after a character in a computer game.

Galen, a boy, I like this though!

mercibien · 29/04/2010 00:14

Autumn, Winta and Storm
all in the same class!

OmicronPersei8 · 29/04/2010 12:30

nelliesmum, I know some called Dolph - short for Adolf. He was born before WW2 though, so before it had the connotations it does now.

Florin, wow. She could have '-' as her nickname.

TKB · 29/04/2010 23:44

Annette Ball. Marvellous really, she was a right cow and still hadn't clicked...

Energumene · 30/04/2010 07:39

One of the boys at H's school has been cursed with the name 'Trojan'.

Hope for his sake the poor little thing never fancies a trip to the States, where his name is a leading condom brand. What were his parents thinking?

kittykatz · 30/04/2010 09:30

I've come across a Griselda - don't know if parents were being mean or if it was a family name! Also a Beckham once.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 30/04/2010 10:33

I just had to comment on OP ... I love the name Persephone... Penny maybe a nickname.. will never be able to use it as it doesnt suit our cultural background but absolutely beautiful.

aquavit · 30/04/2010 13:03

twinmum I knew Pendabede a bit, ages ago, too. Weren't they known as Pen and Boo?
