A cousin of mine named their daughter Persephone, which had us all talking as it's so unusual.
What are the most unusual names you've ever heard of?

I once met an Effracine (not sure of the spelling. Pronounced Eff-ra-C-nee)

Puck - Friend of a friend used this. When I went to register DD's birth I was joking with the registrar about unusual names and she said that Puck was a recent odd one - poor woman went white when I exclaimed 'Oh I know him"!!

I also went to 6th for with someone called Cord. It was quite cool and he pulled it off despite the fact that we all called him Roy!

Padraig- Zeus doesn't have a sister called Hera does he? There was a family with those names where I used to live.

SoMuchToBits · 25/04/2010 19:08

I have a relative called Atom - his parents are English/Japanese, so don't know whether that has any bearing on his name.

I have done a lot of work on my family tree, and there were a lot of men called Ozias in it. Also 3 brothers called Wallace, Horace and Elbridge. And in recent generations we have Ahkarsha, Zynitah, Znadan, Ebanie (these are all in Australia).

I actually really like Ozias....

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 25/04/2010 19:14

I know someone with a son called Dragon. They're American and of Chinese descent so not sure if its more usual in America or China.

Icanseethesea · 25/04/2010 19:16

My friend has a dd called Safi, from a Swahili word. I thought it was a bit odd at first but I do love it now and it suits her!
Also interviewed a Summer Moon this year - Moon is the surname

EricNorthmansmistress · 25/04/2010 19:16

Strange. That's his name. Siblings equally odd, but I can't put them as it would identify them!

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 25/04/2010 19:21

I used to have a cat called Safi from Swahili. It means pure or clean.
