A cousin of mine named their daughter Persephone, which had us all talking as it's so unusual.
What are the most unusual names you've ever heard of?

boy called February

mum called Squirrel

JoeyBettany · 12/02/2010 15:43

I also knew a girl called Tiger Rae, which actually really grew on me.

EarthMotherImNot · 12/02/2010 15:45

I knew 2 sisters called Danesha and Taneka which at the time I'd never heard before.

My favourite though has to be Leannah, a sort of amalgamation of Lee and Hannah.

It always sounds so musical to me

I'm surprised that anyone thinks Mhairi (Vaa-ri) is unusual, it's one of the most common girl's name in my hometown! It's beautiful.

My DH teaches a student called Poona Ni. I kid you not.

Vivia · 12/02/2010 15:56

I meant common girls' names

Hullygully · 12/02/2010 15:58

Cloudhappy Bang.

Nefret · 12/02/2010 16:01

I think the most unusual name I know is Lorien, his mum named him after the forest in the Lord of the Rings. I think it is a lovely name though.

London for a girl. I wonder if it could become popular in 2012?

foreverastudent · 12/02/2010 18:43

I knew an Australian family of Jackery, Tioram, Eilidh and Caledonia.

Another family whose son's middle name is Anakin and daughter's first name is Etosha.

And another with a girl called Aerran.

Oh, and a Kyla-Danielle who had to be addressed to using both names.

Kayzr · 12/02/2010 18:51

I know a Lorien too. But she's a girl, also named from Lord Of The Rings. I too think it is beautiful.

I met a little girl called Sunday Joy once.

The weirdest name I've ever heard came from a magazine, the parents called their child Jackie Chan Ninja Soulblade.

And in another magazine someone had named their poor kid Geronimo.

Beauregard · 12/02/2010 18:57

dd1 has an unusual name

WorzselMummage · 12/02/2010 19:01

I quite like Geronimo !

AllieW · 12/02/2010 19:03

There were a couple of lads on the school bus (mid 1990s) called Blue and Kipper. They were originally from Scotland, so I don't know if these were nicknames for something else. There was also a lad called Jethro (who went by Jeff, since he hated his name), although I quite like that.

LetThereBeRock · 12/02/2010 19:06

You like Geronimo?

I think it's bloody awful. Why would you do that to a child?

LetThereBeRock · 12/02/2010 19:09

There are some unusual names I like which are probably equally awful. I'll keep those as fantasy names. I don't think I could use them.
It isn't the parent who has to live with it after all.

mowcop · 12/02/2010 19:10

A friend has just called her little boy Lino.

MrsEricBana · 12/02/2010 19:14

Baby named Saxon

AllieW · 12/02/2010 19:16

Lino? Oh good grief! I sincerely hope there's a heritage reason there.

My friend's son is Mordecai (known as Kai), but one presumes that's reasonably common in Jewish communities (although she is not, in fact, Jewish).

Morloth · 12/02/2010 19:16

Swastika

QOD · 12/02/2010 19:16

I know someone who called their dd Uhura. In 1990ish

BessieBoots · 12/02/2010 19:18

Vikrant Dikshite. I kid you not. I once heard of him and I just googled. Mr. Dikshite.

I love the name Song, never heard it before.
Wouldn't work if she's tone deaf though.

Cabinet? Cabinet? Crikey.

I met a Periwinkle once. Also, Trinity. Don't dislike it, but said girl lived in Carmarthen, which had a Trinity college.
