Names you can shorten to Annie

We love the name Annie, but can’t seem to land on which ‘full name’ we like best - would love to get some ideas!

Annabel - current fave, but 2yo has a Baby Annabell who is very important to her, and not sure if this would be weird (admittedly it’s a short-term issue though, so not sure if I’m overthinking this!)

Anastasia - like this, but not sure if it’s a bit rogue if you don’t have any Russian / Eastern European heritage?

Anna - I like, but husband not keen

Annalise - we both quite like, but husband says it reminds him of Annalise Dodd

Any thoughts on these or other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Why not just Annie? Annie is a gorgeous name on its own.

ShowOfHands · 24/08/2023 08:43

My great aunt was called Annie and I know 2 Annies now. No full name. I'd just use Annie.

OriginalAuntViv · 24/08/2023 08:44

My mum is Anne on bc but has always been Annie.

Malarandras · 24/08/2023 08:45

I have an Annabel and she has never been called Annie. Her name is Annabel. Annie is a name can’t you just call her that?

quietnightmare · 24/08/2023 08:47

Love them all except Anna

Anna-mae/Marie etc
Cheyanne
Mary-Ann etc
Annalisa
Anya
Hanya

EbiRaisukaree · 24/08/2023 08:47

I have a colleague in her sixties in a professional role who is just called Annie. Why not if that’s the name you love? Using a long name risks other people developing a different diminutive which you like less.

PurpleWhirple · 24/08/2023 08:50

I understand wanting a grown up name. Annie is cute for a kid but it's like being called something like Millie. I'd want my daughter to have a name that gives her the option to be taken seriously in a professional setting as a grown up, so Anne or Camilla in the examples I've given

CorylusAgain · 24/08/2023 08:52

Personally I'd go with Annie or Ann(e).
But if you want a longer name what about Marianne

Blueroses99 · 24/08/2023 08:53

The 2 Annie’s that I know are Anne-Marie and Anita.

Cakecakecheese · 24/08/2023 08:54

Annika? But yeah if you like Annie just call her that. She could always go by Anne if she wants to when she's older but I know an Annie in her 40s and her name suits her fine.

Serpentine1717 · 24/08/2023 08:54

I know two Annies. One is Annika and the other is Antonia.

Glittersmoke · 24/08/2023 08:55

Francesca ?

AlyssumandHelianthus · 24/08/2023 08:56

Annette?

LondonLovie · 24/08/2023 08:57

I understand some people prefer a longer name and nickname. It's just done in some families.

Antoinette
Annabelle
Angelica

You really do need a 'An' at the start to make it work. I like Annabelle

Nannyfannybanny · 24/08/2023 08:57

Why the Mumsnet obsession with nickname and shortening names. I leave you to work out MY name from my username 😂

girlygirly · 24/08/2023 08:58

Anastasia
Anais

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/08/2023 08:59

I know an Angharad who is called Annie as a nickname .

ImGoingThroughChanges · 24/08/2023 09:01

Anouska
Antoinette
Anya
Annamaria
Andrea
Angelica

but I also like just Annie!

Halfemptyhalfling · 24/08/2023 09:03

Anneline pronounced anneleen

OopsieeDaisy · 24/08/2023 09:18

I love all of them apart from Anastasia. I don’t think the doll should be too much of an issue, if Annabel is your favourite you should go for that.

Neverjudgeabookbyitscover · 24/08/2023 09:22

I like Savannah and Rosanna which could both me shortened to Annie,

Gcsunnyside23 · 24/08/2023 09:23

I'd just go with Annie, lovely name. I know a few and haven't thought of it as a non grown up name if you get what I mean. But that could be because the first couple of Annie's I knew were old when I met them but think it's great as is

TheBirdintheCave · 24/08/2023 09:24

I'd use Antigone with Annie as a diminutive.

MiniEggsAllYear · 24/08/2023 09:24

Annie is fine one it's own. It doesn't need anything more. The MN obsession with with calling your child something different on their BC to their actual day to day name baffles me!

BarbaraV · 24/08/2023 09:26

I know a baby Andromeda but that's a bit rogue for me.

Angelina

Andrianne
