Names you can shorten to Annie

We love the name Annie, but can’t seem to land on which ‘full name’ we like best - would love to get some ideas!

Annabel - current fave, but 2yo has a Baby Annabell who is very important to her, and not sure if this would be weird (admittedly it’s a short-term issue though, so not sure if I’m overthinking this!)

Anastasia - like this, but not sure if it’s a bit rogue if you don’t have any Russian / Eastern European heritage?

Anna - I like, but husband not keen

Annalise - we both quite like, but husband says it reminds him of Annalise Dodd

Any thoughts on these or other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Annabeth.

(FYI I've never met an Antigone who wasn't shortened to Tiggy. I don't think Annie is a nickname for Antigone)

Anya is nice

TotalOverhaul · 24/08/2023 09:38

Anya (love this)
Anais

@RainbowFish4

the Annie I know is

adeline
adelina

very unclear on her BC. Called Annie since birth, in her 89's now and Annie is fine.

Lisbeth50 · 24/08/2023 09:41

The Annie I knew was Annabel.

You could have:
Anna
Anne
Annalise
Anne-Marie
Anna-Marie
Anita
Annette

I think you need Anne at the start of the name really rather than something like Marianne.

PurpleChrayne · 24/08/2023 09:44

Any name ending -anne.

Roxanne
Suzanne
Joanne
Leanne
Louanne

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 24/08/2023 09:47

I love Andromeda!

JudasPriest · 24/08/2023 09:57

I knew a lovely Anise which you could shorten to Annie. What about Anaïs ‘An-eye-ees’ or Anika.

3rdtimemumma · 24/08/2023 10:06

Suzanne?/ Suzanna could be Annie?
Such pretty names I think and not common these days but well known enough that people will be able to remember it (my kids classes are full of "new" names I've never heard of and I can't remember any of them).

Efacsen · 24/08/2023 10:10

Marianne

yogasaurus · 24/08/2023 10:14

Just use Annie, it’s lovely.

Needmorelego · 24/08/2023 10:15

I would go for Anne because it's only possible "nick name" variation is Annie. You could use a name like Annabelle and find that she ends up being Belle rather than the Annie you hoped for.

WanderingWitches · 24/08/2023 10:19

If you like Annabel, you should use that. You will be using Annie day to day, so I don't think your other daughter will focus much on the Baby Annabell connection.

Hoolahoophop · 24/08/2023 10:23

I know an Annabel named for her great grandmother who was an Annie. Both are very pretty names.

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/08/2023 10:34

Annabelle is the best! Beautiful

rosanna
eliana
liliana
hannah
gianna

Anne which is a lovely name but you can call dd Annie

lochmaree · 24/08/2023 11:10

if it helps at all OP we called our 2nd DS Thomas (Tom) despite my eldest DS obsession with Thomas the Tank Engine. and my parents cat called Tommy 🤣 hasn't caused any issues.

Love Anastasia, it was on our girls list. Annie is lovely on its own too. Also like Marianne, Marianna, Anne Marie.

Bbq1 · 24/08/2023 11:11

Names like Suzanne and Mariannne will only be shortened to tgeur usual nns not Annie. All the Susan's abs Suzanne's i have known have gone by Sue ans Mariannne was known by Mo.

Wish I had an edit button too to correct all those mistakes in my pp!

Andromeda
Andriana
Andrea

piefacedClique · 24/08/2023 11:13

We loved the name Anouk, which means favour or grace. We would have probably ended up calling her Annie day to day…… We ended up using it as a middle name.

Neverseenbefore · 24/08/2023 11:15

Just go with Annabel - that spelling. It doesn’t matter about your DD’s doll, honestly.

DrLucyVanPelt · 24/08/2023 11:21

Annie is a great name as it stands.

Annabelle/bella
Annaline
Andrea
Anya

Anwen (welsh, means beautiful or fair)

I think the stem name of Annie/Ann would be Hannah?

Ellmau · 24/08/2023 11:23

Anstice I think was an older English version of Anastasia

Annalisa

Antonia

Annis

Annika

Your two yo might love a real baby Annabel/Annabella

Wheresthebloomingsummersunshine · 24/08/2023 11:25
