Names you can shorten to Annie

We love the name Annie, but can’t seem to land on which ‘full name’ we like best - would love to get some ideas!

Annabel - current fave, but 2yo has a Baby Annabell who is very important to her, and not sure if this would be weird (admittedly it’s a short-term issue though, so not sure if I’m overthinking this!)

Anastasia - like this, but not sure if it’s a bit rogue if you don’t have any Russian / Eastern European heritage?

Anna - I like, but husband not keen

Annalise - we both quite like, but husband says it reminds him of Annalise Dodd

Any thoughts on these or other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

As a teacher all the Annie's I've taught have been lovely. If you like Annie just go with it

We knew before my daughter was born that we would call her Annie, but we didn't decide between Arianne and Anya until she arrived so we could see which she would suit. I'm glad we chose Arianne, as she is like our own little pocket rocket. PP upthread have said the 'Ann' should be at the beginning of the name, but now a young adult, she's always been known as Annie, apart from using Arianne as her professional name (she's a ballet dancer).

IHeartGeneHunt · 24/08/2023 11:48

Anwen

Annabeth.

(FYI I've never met an Antigone who wasn't shortened to Tiggy. I don't think Annie is a nickname for Antigone)

It's literally got 'an' at the front of it 🤔

RuthW · 24/08/2023 12:20

Diana?

My fav is Mariana

PatsWoggle · 24/08/2023 12:46

Anna is lovely.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/08/2023 12:51

Anouska
Anastasia
Annabelle is a lovely name

TooOldForThisNonsense · 24/08/2023 12:55

I’d just go for Annie but my great gran who was an amazing, courageous, formidable, strong woman was Annie so I’m biased. 😀

sarahc336 · 24/08/2023 12:56

We have an Annabelle and both my daughters have baby Annabelle dolls and this has never caused a problem with us, 😁

3isthemagicnumberrr · 24/08/2023 12:59

I have an Annie :). Everyone comments on what a lovely name it is. Go with Annie if that’s the name you love.

itsmyp4rty · 24/08/2023 13:22

I don't know why Anna would be ok on a BC as a full name but Annie wouldn't?

I love Anastasia though.

favouriteyellowsocks · 24/08/2023 13:51

My DD is just Annie - love the name and it is a name in its own right

golddustwomen · 24/08/2023 13:53

I love the name Annie. I don't think it needs a longer bc version. Such a pretty name op.

indyocean · 24/08/2023 13:58

Annabelle is the one you want

Start referring to the doll now as Baby Belle

bunchofboys · 24/08/2023 14:00

My mum (would be 88 now) was annie on birth certificate (and to family) but called herself ann for work. Annie is a proper name (and a lovely one at that). My grandmother was also whole name annie.

indyocean · 24/08/2023 14:00

I once new a lady called Annie. She was in her 60s. Everyone new her as such but I think her real name was Suzy or something random

chalkyc2 · 24/08/2023 14:01

I like Analiese....does the different spelling help with association?

Or Anouk?

Shorten to Ani in both variations.

SadCelticBunny · 24/08/2023 14:03

I love Annie, I am Ann officially and it never felt like me.
Changed to Annie about 15 years ago and it just fits perfectly.

Call your little one Annie!

DacwMamYnDwad · 24/08/2023 14:30

Anwen doesn't mean beautiful and/or fair. It's Ann+wen. The wen means blessed or fair/white

Angharad shortened to Annie seems wrong, as Angharad doesn't have An in it. Ng is a single letter in Welsh., so in theory it's no different to shortening Amelia to Annie.

pamplemoussemousse · 24/08/2023 15:14

Marianne
Andrina
Andrea
Annalisa
Annabelle

You always run the risk that Annabelle will shorten her own name to Belle, or that Marianne would get her friends to call her Maria or Annalisa would prefer Anna though. I think if you really want her to be called Annie then give her that name.

Dd2 has a name that is a shortened version of a longer name (think Tori not Victoria type name), I don't see any issue with it.

Suzanne/Susanna perhaps shortened to Annie?

I agree with PP that almost anything ending -anna or -anne can be shortened to Annie.

DuckBushCityLimit · 25/08/2023 11:28

My DD is officially Anne but we've always called her Annie, and in hindsight I wish we'd just put that on her birth cert. Perfectly good name by itself!

DottyLottieLou · 25/08/2023 11:29

If you like Annie just call her that.

bundle · 25/08/2023 11:34

Ann

PEARLJAM123 · 25/08/2023 11:35

Samzzz · 24/08/2023 08:42

Why not just Annie? Annie is a gorgeous name on its own.

This.
